Performance Isolation of Shared Space for Virtualized SSD based Storage Systems

  • In this paper, we propose a performance isolation of shared space for virtualized SSD based storage systems, to solve the weakness in a VSSD framework. The proposed scheme adopts a CFQ scheduler and a shared space-based FTL for the fairness and the performance isolation for multiple users on virtualized SSD based storage systems. Using the CFQ scheduler, we ensure SLOs for the storage systems such as a service time, a allocated space, and a IO latency for users on the virtualized storage systems. In addition, to improve a throughput and reduce a computational latency for garbage collection, a shared space-based FTL is adopted to maintain the information of SLOs for users and it manages shared spaces among the users. In our experiments, the proposal improved the throughput of garbage collection by 7.11%, on average, and reduced the computational latency for garbage collection by 9.63% on average, compared to the previous work.

  • Recently, wearable computers equipped with various biosensors such as smart watches, smart bands, and smart patches that support daily health management of users as well as patients have been released. Users of wearable computers such as smart watches face various difficulties in performing biometric information processes such as data sensing, collection, transmission, real-time analysis, and feedback in a weak wireless and mobile biometric information service environment. In particular, the biometric information collection interface is an important basic process that determines the quality and performance of the entire biometric information service. So far, research has focused on sensing hardware and logic. This study intensively considers the interface method for effectively sensing and collecting raw biometric information. In particular, the process of collecting biometric information is designed and analyzed from the perspective of periodicity. Therefore, we propose an efficient and stable periodic collection method.

Application-Adaptive Performance Improvement in Mobile Systems by Using Persistent Memory

  • In this article, we present a performance enhancement scheme for mobile applications by adopting persistent memory. The proposed scheme supports the deadline guarantee of real-time applications like a video player, and also provides reasonable performances for non-real-time applications. To do so, we analyze the program execution path of mobile software platforms and find two sources of unpredictable time delays that make the deadline-guarantee of real-time applications difficult. The first is the irregular activation of garbage collection in flash storage and the second is the blocking and time-slice based scheduling used in mobile platforms. We resolve these two issues by adopting high performance persistent memory as the storage of real-time applications. By maintaining real-time applications and their data in persistent memory, I/O latency can become predictable because persistent memory does not need garbage collection. Also, we present a new scheduler that exclusively allocates a processor core to a real-time application. Although processor cycles can be wasted while a real-time application performs I/O, we depict that the processor utilization is not degraded significantly due to the acceleration of I/O by adopting persistent memory. Simulation experiments show that the proposed scheme improves the deadline misses of real-time applications by 90% in comparison with the legacy I/O scheme used in mobile systems.

  • The growing demand for the real time traffic information is bringing about the category and number of traffic collection mechanism in the era of ITS. There are, however, two problems in making data into information using various traffic data. First, the information making process of making data into the representative information, for each traffic collection mechanism, for the specified analysis periods is required. Second, the integration process of fusing each representative information into "the information" for each link out of each source is also required. That is, both data reduction and/or data to information process and information fusion are required. This article is focusing on the development of information fusing algorithm based on voting technique, fuzzy regression, and, Bayesian pooling technique for estimating the dynamic link travel time of networks. The proposed algorithm has been validated using the field experiment data out of GPS probes and detectors over the roadways and the estimated link travel time from the algorithm is proved to be more useful than the mere arithmetic mean from each traffic source.

  • Recently, as interest in health increases, the wearable market that can collect various biometric information is expanding. In addition, telemedicine and healthcare services through these bio-signals are expected to become common. In this paper, we introduce a service that can store bio-signals collected through IoT equipment in a database and monitor them in real time through the web. By implementing a system for collecting and storing biometric data and real-time monitoring, it can be utilized for various health management diagnosis.

Effects of Collection Time, Culture Time and Activation Treatment of Canine Oocytes on the IVM Rates

  • These study was carried out to investigate the effects of the collection time, culture time and activation of canine oocytes on in vitro maturation rates. The activated oocytes were cultured in 10% FCS+TCM-199 media containing hormonal supplements (10 IU/ml HCG, 10 IU/ml PMSG, 10 ug/ml gonadotropin) at 5% $CO_2$, 95% air, $38^{\circ}C$. 1. IVM rate of in vitro cultured cumulus-attached oocytes recovered from ovaries that collected at follicular and luteal stages of the reproductive cycles were 11.4% and 5.7%, respectively. IVM rate of oocytes recovered from ovaries that collected at follicular stages of the reproductive cycles was significantly higher than that of luteal stage (p<0.05). 2. When IVM was carried out at different periods of 40, 48, and 70 hrs, the IVM rates of oocytes matured in vitro were 2.9%, 8.6%, 5.7%, respectively. These results indicate that the IVM time between $48{\sim}70$ hrs gives the highest maturation rate for the oocytes matured at the different stages. 3. IVM rate of oocytes matured in vitro for 10 hrs after single and combined activation treatment by ET, IP and CH and Ca+DMAP, CH+DMAP, ET+CH were $11.5{\pm}1.2%,\;10.8{\pm}1.0%,\;9.6{\pm}1.2%\;and\;12.4{\pm}1.5%,\;11.8{\pm}1.5%,\;11.2{\pm}1.4%$ respectively. This was higher than that in both single and combined stimulated groups compared to control group ($6.2{\sim}7.2%$).

  • Existing distributed systems have higher probability of failures occurrence than stand-alone system, so many fault tolerant techniques have been developed. Because of insufficient storage resulting from the increased fault tolerance information stored, the performance of system has been degraded. To avoid performance degradation, it needs delete useless fault tolerance information. In this paper, we propose a garbage collection algorithm for fault tolerance information. And we define and design the garbage collection agent for garbage collection of fault tolerance information, the information agent for management of fault tolerant data, and the facilitator agent for communication between agents. Also, we propose the garbage collection algorithm using the garbage collection agent. For rollback recovery, we use independent checkpointing protocol and sender based pessimistic message logging protocol. In our proposed garbage collection algorithm, the garbage collection, information, and facilitator agent is created with process, and the information agent constructs domain knowledge with its checkpoints and non-determistic events. And the garbage collection agent decides garbage collection time, and it deletes useless fault tolerance information in cooperation with the information and facilitator agent. For propriety of proposed garbage collection technique using agents, we compare domain knowledge of system that performs garbage collection after rollback recovery and domain knowledge of system that doesn't perform garbage collection.

A study of collection evaluation using conspectus methodology (컨스펙터스방법을 이용한 장서평가연구)

  • The im of the present study is to introduce and develop the concept and theory of conspectus for the first time in Korea, and to propose a new evaluation model for book collection by actually applying the developed methodology to the collection of a special library dedicated to Biblical Studies. Conspectus is a standardized and objective evaluation method that classifies the main collection according to the division, category, subject, and then gives each collection ots appropriate collection level code by analyzing the classified collection in terms of three different dimensions, which are Current Collection Level(CL), Acquisition Commitment Level(AC), and Collection Goal Level(GL). To evaluate the collection of the sample library, shelflist analysis, list checking, acquisition data in ordering process by their main subject, and survey of its users have been carried out, and all of their results ahve been indicated in terms of eleven collection level codes developed by WLN Conspectus. T e collection of sample library was evaluated as '3cW' for CL, '4W' for AC, and '4W' for GL when the Conspectus methodology was applied for evaluation. This study could be utilized as an collection evaluation model for theological libraries, and become a basis to bring about more active cooperative collection development among related libraries.

  • Satellite operation is divided as user's request, image collection planning, product generation, distribution. Image collection planning is to make image collection plan of satellite to reflect user's request in proper time based on NTO (New Task Order) and AO (Archive Order) using limited satellite resources. Image collection planning has high computational cost because of considering several variables simultaneously, is to be performed identical process repeatedly. In this paper, optimization research of image collection planning is performed for efficient planning. First, formulation of image collection planning is made to require satellite image as much as possible and then Heuristic algorithm is suggested for solution of formulation.

A Review on the Transition and Application of Modern Fashion of Chinese Mao Suit (중국 중산복의 변천 및 현대패션에의 적용사례 고찰)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the occurrence and evolution of Mao suit which is important position in the modern costume history of China and to provide a source of design inspiration to contemporary fashion designers. In the research method, literature review and case studies was conducted in parallel. For the literature review, changes of Mao suit in each age were reviewed with reference to the related documents, Chinese costume and cultural history, prior research papers and internet resources. The case analysis was qualitatively done focusing on the silhouette, color and detail of clothes in fashion collections. The scope of the study was from 1912 to 2000. The case analysis of the Mao suit applied to the contemporary fashion was made on the applications centered around 'London Collection', 'New York Collection', 'Paris Collection', 'Milan Collection' and 'Chinese Fashion Week' from 2008 to 2015. The results found that Mao suit changed into many different forms after Sun Wen designed it for the first time in 1912. This study classified it into Phase 1(1912~1927), Phase 2(1928~1965), Phase 3(1966~1977), and Phase 4(1978~2000) with historical and political issues and conformational changes in Mao suit. The frequency analysis of the cases of the fashion collections using Mao suit from 2008 to 2015 showed an increased application of Mao suit to the western collection in New York, Paris and London in 2008 due to the impact of Beijing Olympics. However, from 2009 onwards, the frequency of the utilization of Mao suit was higher in the Chinese Fashion Week and the New York Collection. This cause is explained by the fact that the designers who inspired from Mao suit in the New York Collection are American Chinese.
