  • The decreasing pattern of underground temperature measured at 'Gonjiam cold storage cavern' during 7 years which was the first commercial scale underground food storage cavern in Korea was analyzed. The variation of energy consumption was discussed by comparing the consumed energy at the initial operation stage with that at later stage, when the temperature distribution reached a stabilized condition. The point to be considered at the design stage was also discussed by comparing the required refrigerator capacity at the initial operation stage with that at later stage. The extra energy to freeze the groundwater contained in pore space was discussed by analyzing the changing pattern of the rock temperature. The variation of measured rock temperature was compared with the estimated temperature using a numerical code, FLAC. The accuracy of the numerical estimation was discussed by comparing the heat flux measured by the operation time of the refrigerator with that estimated numerically.

  • 1. Objective: This literary review investigates Lee Jema's clinical experiences with Soyang-type patients and their influence on his conceptualization of the Soyang physiology and pathology. 2. Methods: 1) The case reports in "Soyang constitutional type: Spleen Cold-based Exterior-Cold disease" were compared before and after the Sinchuk revision to explore the temporal change in the Sasang medical concepts. 2) The texts in Donguisusebowon (Gabo edition) and Donguisusebowon (Sasangchobongwon) were analyzed to investigate the pathological concepts appearing before the completion of the Donguisusebowon (Gabo edition). 3) The texts in Donguisusebowon (Sinchuk edition) was analyzed to investigate the pathological concepts formed between the Gabo and Sinchuk editions of Donguisusebowon. 3. Results and Conclusions: 1) Gabo edition : The Gabo edition divided the External-origin Exterior disease into Cold-dominant (Heat-moderate) and Heat-dominant (Cold-moderate) patterns and differentiated the severity of Exterior-based Exterior disease and Interior-based Interior disease into mild, moderate, severe, and critical conditions. Cold-damage Delirium disease pattern was categorized as an Interior-based Interior disease, and the treatment protocol using Baekho-tang (Baihu-tang) was established. The stool condition and bowel movement reflecting the patient's defecation habits, the prime indicator of health in the Soyang constitutional type, were emphasized on their importance. 2) Sinchuk edition: The Delirium disease pattern was moved into the Exterior-cold disease, and the treatment protocol applying Jihwangbaekho-tang (Dihuangbaihu-tang) and Hyeongbangsabaek-san (Jingfangxiebai-san), with variational usage of Gypsum, was newly established. The Seong-Jeong and basal disease patterns were suggested as important factors in treating the patients. Also, it was proposed that the symptoms and signs reflecting the condition of the life-preserving energy be assessed to understand the patient's current condition. The importance of post-acute rehabilitation and aftercare as well as the most appropriate acute-stage treatment were emphasized.

  • A new wide laser beam optical system for the laser materials processing has been developed with a polygonal mirror. It consists of polygonal mirror and cooling part that prevents the surface of rotating polygonal mirror from damage by heat. The polygonal minors have been designed and made as 24 and 30 facets in pyramid type. This system provides a uniform linear laser heat source with the surface scanning width from 15 to 50mm according to the scanning height To examine the wide laser beam, He-Ne laser is used. Also, Acryl is used to confirm the laser beam pattern by bum-pattern print To analyze the energy distribution of the wide laser ben empirical values and theoretical values are compared and discussed. To improve the efficiency of the wide laser beam optical system, methods are suggested by the optical theories. For larger area processing like turbine blade, drawing blade, cold roller and guide plate, optimal overlapping locations have been calculated and analyzed by geometric and optical theories.

  • Objective : Pattern identification in Korean Medicine is a core value, leading to a quantitative and qualitative increase in related studies. This study aims to identify trends in newly published research and discuss pattern identification. Method : We reviewed studies from 2015 to 2023 using the Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System provided by the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine. The keywords used were: pattern identification, cold-heat, deficiency-excess, exterior-interior, yin-yang, phlegm-retained fluid, static blood, qi-blood, qi deficiency, blood deficiency, yin deficiency, yang deficiency, and four-constitution. Results : A total of 150 studies met the inclusion criteria. These comprised 84 observational studies, including case reports, 2 experimental studies, and 64 literature reviews. Most studies were published in the Korean Journal of Oriental Physiology and Pathology. On average, 17.1 studies were published annually, although the number of studies has decreased over the years. Network analysis revealed that the main keyword in titles was pattern identification (n=122), followed by study (n=68) and patients (n=34). Conclusion : These findings highlight trends in studies related to pattern identification, with a focus on its standardization. Considering the limitations of pattern identification, a shift towards a disease-centered approach is recommended.

  • This paper examines the efficiency of the application of conventional and insulated gang forms for curing and protection of concrete by comparing the amount of electric energy required therefor. In addition, a thermal vision camera was used to identify heat loss from surfaces of the gang forms after each placement of concrete. Experimental results, show that the heat loss at the submerged temperature was large at the submerged surface due to the large calorific value at the surface of the mold. The insulated gang form had some heat loss in the horizontal bars. In the case of adiabatic reforming, the pattern shows a constant calorific value over time. In conclusion, the insulation performance is better than that of general gang form.

  • As sessile organisms, plants are exposed to persistently changing stresses and have to be able to interpret and respond to them. The stresses, drought, salinity, chemicals, cold and hot temperatures, and various pathogen attacks have interconnected effects on plants, resulting in the disruption of protein homeostasis. Maintenance of proteins in their functional native conformations and preventing aggregation of non-native proteins are important for cell survival under stress. Heat shock proteins (HSPs) functioning as molecular chaperones are the key components responsible for protein folding, assembly, translocation, and degradation under stress conditions and in many normal cellular processes. Plants respond to pathogen invasion using two different innate immune responses mediated by pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) or resistance (R) proteins. HSPs play an indispensable role as molecular chaperones in the quality control of plasma membrane-resident PRRs and intracellular R proteins against potential invaders. Here, we specifically discuss the functional involvement of cytosolic and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) HSPs/chaperones in plant immunity to obtain an integrated understanding of the immune responses in plant cells.

  • We investigated the influence of the aspect ratio (H/R) of the oxide layer on the reactor vessel heating in three-layer configuration. Based on the analogy between heat and mass transfers, we performed mass transfer experiments to achieve high Rayleigh numbers ranging from $6.70{\times}10^{10}$ to $7.84{\times}10^{12}$. Two-dimensional (2-D) semi-circular apparatuses having the internal heat source were used whose surfaces of top, bottom and side simulate the interfaces of the oxide layer with the light metal layer, the heavy metal layer, and the reactor vessel, respectively. Multi-cell flow pattern was identified when the H/R was reduced to 0.47 or less, which promoted the downward heat transfer from the oxide layer and possibly mitigated the focusing effect at the upper metallic layer. The top boundary condition greatly affected the natural convection of the oxide layer due to the presence of secondary flows underneath the cold light metal layer.

  • Objective : Describe the phenomenon of "clear qi below, turbid qi above" as found in the Somun Eumyangeungsangdaelon (Major Essay on Yinyang Resonances and Appearances 素問 陰陽應象大論) and compare this pattern with water-grain dysentery and flatulence symptom patterns in the Sanghallon (Treatise on Cold Damage). Method : Study the annotation of the Hwangjenaegyeong (Yellow Emperor's Internal Classic 黃帝內經) and compare the results with the Sanghallon's water-grain dysentery and flatulence. Conclusions and Results : The causes of water-grain dysentery and flatulence are associated with the ascending and descending properties of Yin and Yang. Additionally, these symptoms can also be caused by pathogenic heat, turbid pathogenic factors, and interruption of the movement of clear and turbid qi. Aspects of water-grain dysentery resemble several patterns found in the Sanghallon. If caused by a weakness of yang qi, it resembles Sayeoktang (四逆湯) syndrome. Weakness of spleen qi resembles Ijungtang (理中湯) syndrome. Flatulence is similar to fullness in the chest syndrome, which in the Sanghallon is caused by an obstruction of cold qi. If there is excessive cold, water-grain dysentery is similar to the syndrome of Gyeolhyung (結胸). If the qi is not scattered, deficiency syndrome is similar to Gyejigejagyaktang (桂枝去芍藥湯) syndrome and excess syndrome is similar to Mahwangtang (麻黃湯) syndrome. When flatulence is caused by fever in chest, it is similar to Chijasitang (梔子?湯) syndrome. When caused by heat and phlegm build up in chest, it is similar to Sipjotang (十棗湯) syndrome.
