Influence of kneading ratio on the binding interaction of coke aggregates on manufacturing a carbon block

  • Coke aggregates and carbon artifacts were produced to investigate the interactions of coke and pitch during the kneading process. In addition, the kneading ratio of the coke and binder pitch for the coke aggregates was controlled to identify the formation of voids and pores during carbonization at $900^{\circ}C$. Experiments and thermogravimetric analysis revealed that carbon yields were improved over the theoretical yield calculated by the weight loss of the coke and binder pitch; the improvement was due to the binding interactions between the coke particles and binder pitch by the kneading process. The true, apparent, and bulk densities fluctuated according to the kneading ratio. This study confirmed that an excessive or insufficient kneading ratio decreases the density with degradation of the packing characteristics. The porosity analysis indicated that formation of voids and pores by the binder pitch increased the porosity after carbonization. Image analysis confirmed that the kneading ratio affected the formation of the coke domains and the voids and pores, which revealed the relations among the carbon yields, density, and porosity.

  • 석유코크스의 연료적 가치에 대한 관심이 증가하여, 세계적으로 정유공정이나 발전용으로 석유코크스 가스화 플랜트 적용 사례가 증가하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 1톤/일 규모의 석탄가스화 시스템을 활용하여 석유코크스 가스화를 위한 요소기술을 개발하고자 하였다. 석유코크스는 반응성이 낮아 가스화를 위한 산소소모량이 석탄보다 많이 소요되었으며, 석유코크스와 석탄을 각각 50%로 혼합한 연료의 경우, 합성가스 발열량은 $6.7{\sim}7.2MJ/Nm^3$ 수준을 보였다. 가스화 성능 면에서 전환율은 산소량 증가에 따라 92%이상까지 도달할 수 있었지만, 냉가스효율은 석탄보다 낮은 수준의 결과를 보였다. 이는 반응성이 낮은 석유코크스의 경우 가스화 성능 향상을 위해 버너 노즐부위에 대한 미립화 설계 보완이 필요한 것으로 파악되었다.

  • The steel industry accounts for about 5% of the total annual global energy consumption and more than 6% of the total anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions. Therefore, there is a need to increase energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in these industries. The utilization of coke oven gas, a byproduct of the coke plant, is one of the main ways to achieve this goal. Coke oven gas used as a fuel in many steelmaking process is a hydrogen-rich gas with high energy potential, but it is commonly used as a heat source and is even released directly into the air after combustion reactions. In order to solve such resource waste and energy inefficiency, several alternatives have recently been proposed, such as separating and refining hydrogen directly from coke oven gas or converting it to syngas. Therefore, in this study, recent research trends on the separation and purification of hydrogen from coke oven gas and the production of syngas were introduced.

열천칭과 유동층반응기에서 석탄과 Petroleum Coke의 수증기 가스화반응 (Steam Gasification of Coal and Petroleum Coke in a Thermobalance and a Fluidized Bed Reactor)

  • 석탄 및 pet coke (petroleum coke)는 그 이용이 제한적이지만 공급이 풍부한 에너지원이므로, 가스화공정에 적용하여 고급연료인 수소나 액체연료를 생산할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 열천칭반응기와 실험실규모의 유동층반응기(내경 0.02 m, 높이 0.6 m)에서 갈탄, 무연탄, pet coke의 수증기 가스화 반응특성을 조사하였다. 가스화 온도 $600{\sim}900^{\circ}C$, 수증기 분압 0.15~0.95 atm 및 수증기/연료 비의 조업변수가 가스화반응속도 및 생성가스의 발열량에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 기체-고체 반응모델로서 modified volumetric reaction model을 적용하여 가스화반응의 거동을 묘사하고 kinetic 인자들을 도출하였다. 가스화 반응온도가 높을수록 생성가스 중의 수소농도와 가스의 발열량은 증가하였다. 생성가스 발열량은 무연탄 > 갈탄 > pet coke의 순으로 높게 나타났는데, 반응온도 $900^{\circ}C$, 수증기분압 95%의 조건에서 10.0 > 6.9 > 5.7 $MJ/m^3$로 각각 얻어졌다. 본 연구를 통하여 갈탄과 pet coke에 대해 가스화공정의 잠재적인 연료로서의 가능성을 확인하였다.

  • A simplified model of plastic layer and internal gas pressure In a coke oven is presented. We calculate internal gas pressure using presented model. And results are compared with calculated results using experimental data. Results show the difference of internal gas pressure by coal composition. The model is used to show that the permeability at the resolidification end of the plastic layer is a key determinant of the magnitude of the internal gas pressure.

  • 본 연구에서는 광양제철소의 Coke 공장에서 이동중인 압출기로부터 프로세스 데이터를 원격 수집하기 위한 무선 LAN 시스템을 구축하였으며, 압출 저항 데이터를 저장 관리할 수 있는 DB를 구축하여 얻어진 데이터를 비교 분석하여 Coke Oven의 노체의 손실여부를 예측하여 유지 보수하거나 손실을 최소화하기 위한 조업 조건 도출에 활용하기 위한 시스템을 개발하였다. 본 시스템은 이동중인 압출기에 설치된 압출 저항 측정 시스템과 2.4 GHz의 대역폭을 갖는 무선 LAN을 이용한 데이터 송수신 시스템과 수신한 데이터를 감시, 저장, 비교 분석하기 위한 MMI 및 DB Server 시스템으로 구성되어 있다.

대학생들의 음료 소비실태 및 이미지 조사 연구 (A Study on Beverage Consumption Pattern and Image of College Students)

  • In order to investigate consumption pattern and image of beverage, this study was performed by using questionnaire based on stratified random sampling about 200 students from September 6, 1999 to September 18, 1999. The result was as followings: 1. For the reasons of each beverage consumption, coke, soda pop and sport drinks were for quenching thirst. And coffee and juices were for dessert and milk.yoghurts, dietary beverages, green tea and ginseng tea were for health. 2. For the priority in selecting each beverage, trademark was dominant factor for choosing coke. And the dominant factor of choosing milk.yoghurts and ginseng tea was nutrition and in case of other beverages taste was the first factor. 3. For the place of taking beverages, coffee, coke and sport drinks were mainly consumed in school and milk.yoghurt and juices in home. 4. The college students loved or liked milk.yoghurt and juices, and they liked or enjoyed coke, soda pop, sport drinks and green tea moderately, and enjoyed ginseng tea and black tea moderately or disliked them. 5. For the frequency of each beverage, many of them consumed coffee and milk.yoghurt once or twice a day. and consumed coke. soda pop. sport drinks and juices once or twice a week. And they answered that they did not consume dietary beverages, green tea, ginseng tea and black tea so often. 6. There was significant correlation with frequency of drinking and preference score of beverage. 7. For the consumption of the Korean traditional beverages, more than 50% of the subjects had no experience in taking sangwha tea, omiza tea, and Kugiza tea. Among them, many answered that they would try the Korean traditional beverages, if they had an opportunity, and that their price was moderate. 8. The results from the analysis of the image of those beverages were as followings; \circled1 Coffee, coke, sport drinks and dietary beverages had a modern image and green tea, ginseng tea and black tea had a traditional image. \circled2 Coke, sport drinks and ginseng tea had a manly image and juices, dietary beverages, green tea and black tea had a womanlike image. \circled3 The students recognized coffee, coke, milkㆍyoghurt, sport drinks, juices, dietary beverages and green tea to be daily and catholic. \circled4 Milkㆍyoghurt, juices, dietary beverages, green tea, ginseng tea and black tea were recognized to be good for health and coffee and coke bad for health. \circled5 Coffee, coke, soda pop, sport drinks, juices and green tea were slightly concerned with a change. \circled6 Coke, soda pop and sport drinks had a dynamic image and coffee, juices. green tea, ginseng tea and black tea had a little static image.

코크스오븐 작업자들의 코크스오븐배출물 및 다핵방향족탄화수소 노출에 관한 연구 (A Study on exposure assessment of Coke-Oven Workers to Coke Oven Emissions and Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons)

  • Coke-oven workers are regularly exposed to coke oven emissions (COE), which consist primarily of polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) and volatile organic components. This study assessed the exposure of coke-oven workers to COE and PAH. The results of this study are as follows. 1. Among the 136 samples on coke-oven workers 33.1% exceeded the occupational exposure limit to the Coal Tar Pitch Volatiles ($0.2mg/m^3$) established by the Korean Ministry of Labor and American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists(ACGIH). 2. The coke-oven workers were classified into twelve job categories and there was statistically significant difference among the airborne concentrations of COE and PAH in twelve job categories(p<0.001). 3. There was no significant difference of the airborne concentrations of COE between NIOSH method and OSHA method applied. 4. There was a significant correlation between the airborne concentrations of total PAH and COE(r=0.733, p<0.01). 5. The percentage of naphthalene in total PAH was 55.9% and the highest among those of 16 PAHs. There was a significant correlation between the airborne concentrations of naphthalene and total PAH(r=0.90, p<0.01) and this study recommends naphthalene as the index component of PAH.

미분 석유코크스연소기에서 스월강도변화가 연소과정에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Various Swirl Flows on Pulverized Petroleum Coke Combustion)

  • Petroleum coke has high heating value and low price. Due to the steadily increasing demand for heavy oil processing, the production volume of petroleum coke tends to be expanded. The high availability and low price of petroleum coke have been strongly considered as candidate fuel for power generation facilities. However the high carbon content, high sulfur content and nitrogen content of petroleum fuel are known to produce relatively large quantity of CO2, high NOx and SO2 emission. In this work, a series of numerical simulations have been carried out in order to investigate the effects of swirl flow intensity on combustion furnace, which is most important operating condition. Results show that the temperature distribution was spatially uniform at about 1600K but high temperature region are located quite differently depending on swirl number. In addition, numerical temperature data was compared with experimental temperature data and its temperature difference shows less than 10%. On the other hand, discrepancy between numerical and experimental emission data were slightly large with necessities of improved emission model.

코크스 공정에서의 열유동 현상 모델링 (Modeling of Coking Process in a Coke Oven)

  • Coking process is the thermal decomposition of bituminous coal with final temperature of about $900^{\circ}C$ Because coke plays important roles in ironmaking process in a blast furnace it's essential for developing modeling of coke oven. In this study, An unsteady 2-dimesional model is proposed to simulate coking process in a coke oven. In this model, gas and solid phase are assumed homogeneous continnum and solid bed is assumed as porous media . The model contains governing equations for the solid phase and the gas phase. Complicated phenomena such as swelling, softening, resolidification and shrinkage are neglected and mass loss by drying and devolatilization is reflected by generation of internal pores. Drying, devolatilization, heat transfer and generation of internal pores are also reflected in source terms. Calulated results are compared with experimental data
