One of the historical origins of the modern science education was investigated in this paper. From the view point of the pansophistic educational philosophy which emphasized "man should teach completely all things to all mankind(Omnes, Omnia, omnino)", J.A.Comenius proposed in his book "Didactica magna"(1658) that 'physica' should be learned as one of the most important school subjects. He suggested the completion of human being as a wholeness of the universe could be achieved through the physics teaching. His ideas of science education was, however, directed not to the 'rational konwledge' about the natural world, but to the 'divine wisdom'. His main thoughts and influences on science education can be summarized as follows: 1) The human being as a God's image should know the divinely created nature, because the invisible God's existence can be sensorially recognized in the nature. 2) Physics or science should be regarded as more important objects than verbal learning in general school education. 3) The cognitive union between the words('representative' or 'das Dargestellte') and things('presentative' or 'das Dargebotene') can be achieved through the objects lesson ('Anschauungsunterricht') 4) The realistic and sensor-cognitive learning theory of the object lesson is yet very important especially in the science education of elementary school, even though the inquiry learning process has became more important in the last years. 5) The religious aspect of his idea could not satisfy the social needs of industrialization and the development of professonal technics in the 18 to 19th century.

To figure out the present status of Korean middle school science curriculum in the national level is not an easy job. especially in the restricted condition such as this research project. Therefore, to achieve a meaningful result, the case study type of research was adopted In the study five middle schools (2boy's and 3girl's)were selected and examined intensively. In this study, two major works were done. One was the analysis of the present middle school science curriculum and the other was to examine the current status of the administration of the curriculum in schools. This first study focused on the evaluation of the current Curriculum. Acording to the result, the objectives stated in the teachers guide and implied by the testbook were heavily concentrated on the knowledge level in Boom's taxonomy. Achievement on the objectives which were selected as important were very low. The average pass rate for the selected objectives was less than 50% of the students. This means the content level of the present science curriculum is not appropriate. The study suggested that the present middle school science curriculum should be revised and the content should be replaced with easier topics to match the students cognitive level. The study also suggested further studies to measure the cognitive level of Korean students in national scale.
The purpose of this study was to examine the difference of cognitive function, depression, and quality of life according to demographic factors and exercise participation among 148 elderly over 60 years old. The cognitive function was measured by the Korean version of mini mental state exam, Digit span test, Trail making test, and the Stroop test. Also the psychological variables were showed depression and quality of life. As a results, first, depending on the degree of demographic characteristics of elderly had significant difference. Second, according to the participation of the exercise, the score was higher than the aged who did not participate in the exercise. Third, there were significant differences according to duration of exercise, period of exercise, frequency of exercise, and exercise time of the aged that who participate in exercise. Lastly, the cognitive function, depression and quality of life of the subjects were found to be correlated. In conclusion, the aged need to regularly participate in various exercise and physical activity programs to improve the quality of life by improving the cognitive function and decreasing depression of the elderly.
The whole design process drawing outputs from design planning is based on designers' intuitive ideas and differences in technical ability. However, every design professional agrees to the fact that such design process is filled with individuals' implicit acts or inherent intuition rather than following directions in a certain defined frame. If the design process based on such intuition and experience can start from the rational and scientific process, it would be possible to move more systematic design process to the next step. This study aims to examine what system of thinking are used by designers to conduct the design information process, by using the protocol analysis which is the representative qualitative study method of cognitive science, on designers' cognitive behaviors like the contents of the design sketch process which is the initial step of the kitchenware development process, in order to understand professionals' and non-professionals' design application direction. Thus, the scope of this paper would be limited to "the initial protocol analysis on kitchenware" and "encoding of the analysis on thinking" in the qualitative study that can be the most basic to understand the design cognitive science. As a procedure to solve this study question, it aimed to seek for the product development flow and the educational effect by considering the preceding researches and also re-interpreting cognitive thinking in systematic methods.
The present study was conducted to examine the effect of meta-cognitive strategy and transfer appropriate processing(TAP) on prospective memory performance. In two experiments, encoding strategy for PM target words was manipulated by instructions. Participants who were assigned to meta strategic condition were engaged to rate task difficulty(EOL) in addition to predict their own performance(JOL), while participants in cognitive strategy condition were to remember target words by pleasantness ratings and sentence generation. In experiment1 and experiment 2, all participants in both conditions performed not only TAP ongoing task but also TIP ongoing task. Results revealed the benefit of meta cognition and transfer appropriate processing on PM performance. Furthermore, the benefit of TAP was diminished in cognitive strategy condition. There were no-costs on judgement tasks across conditions. The findings suggest that meta-cognition allows to sustain PM targets and intention without regard to cognitive resource.
Purpose - The goals of this study are the following. First, this study focused on customer satisfaction of in-flight service. Specifically, in-flight duty free items were considered because of their potential value related with the differentiated strategy of airline companies. Second, this study analyzed feasible strategies that would fence off the aversive attitudes of consumers toward innovation regarding in-flight duty free items. Third, this study strived to discover implicit routes related with the reactions of of consumers to innovation. Fourth, the construal level theory was applied to the context of in-flight service. Psychological distance is expected to promote acceptance of innovation for duty free items. Research design, data, and methodology - This study consisted of three experiments. All data were collected through the participation of university students. First, the experiment employed a 2×2 between-subject design. The first independent variable was temporal distance (long vs. short of navigation time). The second independent variable was innovativeness (innovative duty free items vs. typical items). Further, experiment 2 involved a 2×2 between-subject design. The first independent variable was social distance (typical vs. atypical stewardess image). The second was innovativeness that was based on a pattern similar to that of the prior experiment. The third experiment involved a 2×2×2 design. The first and second independent variables were temporal distance and item innovation, respectively, based on the method of experiment 1. The third independent variable was cognitive depletion (depletion vs. control condition). Results - Experiment 1 demonstrated that the innovation of duty free items would need to consider the journey time of the airline. Specifically, innovative items were preferred in case of a long journey; typical items, however, were liked in a short journey. Further, experiment 2 demonstrated that, in spite of a short journey, innovative items would be preferred if an atypical stewardess was serving. An atypical stewardess was linked with social distance, and the psychological effects would activate a creative and flexible mindset that would fit with innovative duty free items. The final experiment was accomplished for the examination of cognitive processing of psychological distance on innovation-acceptance. Specifically, if the effects were related with systematic processing, then cognitive effort would be needed. In contrast, if they were related with heuristic processing, then such efforts would not be required. The same pattern appeared under both cognitive depletion and control condition; therefore, the effects of psychological distance were implied to be heuristic processing. Conclusions - Managers need to consider the navigation time, stewardess concepts, and depletion of consumers as important factors for innovative strategy regarding in-flight service. Longer journeys are more successful for innovative trials. Further, a more atypical stewardess image is more successful for atypical service. Long navigation and unfamiliar stewardesses may activate creative and flexible thinking. Further, cognitive depletion of consumers is not a dominant factor of psychological distance effects, because the effects are not related with systematic processing, but with heuristic processing.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the Spaced Retrieval Training (SRT) with Errorless learning on the elderly with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI)'s memory, Instrumental Activities Daily Living, Depression symptom. Methods: A single subject experimental research with ABA design was conducted in this study on the 78-years-old person who was enrolled in day-care center. The total experimental sessions were 16 which composed of 3 sessions for baseline, 10 sessions for intervention and 3 sessions for second baseline. K-Auditory Verbal Learning Test (K-AVLT) was measured for the memory each session. For the measurement of cognitive function, IADL, depression Symptom, Korean version of Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA-K), Philadelphia Geriatric Center Instrumental Activities Daily Living (PGC IADL), Geriatric Depression Scale Korean Version (GDS-K) was measured at pre-post test. Results: Memory at the phase B was improved than Phase A. At the phase B, the scores trend was ascending, but after the intervention at the phase A', the scores trend was descending. The scores of MoCA-K were improved, PGC IADL were maintained, GDS-K were decreased. Conclusion: This results support the evidence of the SRT with EL on the elderly with MCI in the clinical setting. In the future, the correlation researches about MCI's memory and other functional factors will be needed for effective occupational therapy service.
In this study, changes in performance of 2-back task, blood oxygen saturation and heart rate due to $40\%$ concentration oxygen supply were observed. Five male $(25.8\pm1.3)$ and five female $(23.0\pm1.0)$ college students were nked to perform 2-bark task during two types of oxygen (concentration $21\%,\;40\%$) administration. The experimental sequence consisted of Rest1(1 min.), 0-back Task (1 min.), 2-bark Task (2 min.), and Rest2 (4 min.) and the physiological signals such as blood oxygen saturation and heart rate were measured throughout the stages. The experimental result showed that the performance increased significantly at $40\%'s$ concentration of oxygen rather than $21\%'s$, which shows oxygen supply has positive influence on cognitive performance. When $40\%$ concentration oxygen is supplied, the oxygen saturation in the blood increased and heart rate was decreased significantly comparing to $21\%$. It is Suggested that $40\%$ oxygen can stimulate brain activation bY increasing actual blood oxygen concentration in the process of cognitive performance, and hyperoxia makes heart rate decrease.
The study investigated the effects of types of presentation and cognitive load on multimedia learning. In experiment 1, subject were 90 elementary school students. The subject were assigned in three conditions: Narration and Text (NT) condition, Animation and Narration(AN) condition, Animation and Text(AT) condition. The result showed that AN condition improved the learning performances in comparison with AT condition, NT condition. Experiment 2 was administrated to 87 undergraduate students. They were participated in three conditions, also. The conditions were Animation and Text (AT) condition, Animation and Narration (AN) condition, Animation, Narration and Text (ANT) condition. the results showed that AN condition was greater in AT, ANT condition. The results from a series of these experiments imply that varying the types of presentation of identical learning materials had influences on the performances. Multimedia presentation(animation and verbal conditions) improved the learning performances in comparison with monomedia presentation(verbal condition), and the advantage was raised when learners were provided the learning material in the multimodal and multimedia environment(AN condition). Also, it came out that redundant text identical to narration disrupted learning when learners were in the picture (either animation or illustration) and narration conditions. Likewise, also for adults, performances were improved in the multimodal conditions and redundant text identical to narration was not helpful for learning. These results are evidences for the dual-coding theory and the cognitive load theory.
This paper introduces SNUDM, an analysis program for Ratcliff's diffusion model, which has been one of the most important models in cognitive psychology over the past 35 years and which has come to occupy an important place in cognitive neuroscience in recent years. The analysis tool is designed with the basic principles of easy comprehension and simplicity in use. A diffusion process was programmed as the limit of a simple random walk in a manner resembling Ratcliff & Tuerlinckx(2002). The response time distribution of the model was constructed by simulating the time taken by a random walk until it reaches a threshold with small steps. The optimal parameter values in the model are found to be the smallest value of the chi-square values obtained by comparing the resulting distribution and the experimental data using Simplex method. For simplicity and ease of use, the input file used here is created as a file containing the quantile of the reaction time, the trials and other information. The number of participants and the number of conditions required for such work programs are given in a way that answers the question. Using this analysis tool, the experimental data of Ratcliff, Gomez, & McKoon(2004) were analyzed. We found the very similar pattern of parameter values to Ratcliff et al.(2004) found. When comparing DMAT, fast-dm and SNUDM with the generated data, we found that when the number of trials is small, SNUDM estimates the boundary parameter to a value similar to fast-dm and less than the DMAT. In addition, when the number of trials was large, it was confirmed that all three tools estimate parameters similarly.
