In this paper, it is required that the next generation wireless transmission system can support a large number of users without distortion of transmission signal with high data rate in various different propagation environment while using limited resources as efficiently as possible, and therefore an efficient transmission system is continuously required. Because of the large amount of data to be handled in a limited frequency band, a very complex digital modulation scheme is adopted. the linearity of the power amplifier determines the linearity of the entire communication system, and thus a linear amplifier is required. In cognitive radion systems, there is a power control issue in the relationship between primary and secondary users. This problem is solved by simulating the communication system so as to select the cognitive radio power while power control while overcoming linearity by using feed-forward PA.

Wireless multicast is considered as an effective transmission mode for the future mobile social contact services supported by Long Time Evolution (LTE). Though wireless multicast has an excellent resource efficiency, its performance suffers deterioration from the channel condition and wireless resource availability. Cognitive Radio (CR) and Device to Device (D2D) are two solutions to provide potential resource. However, resource allocation for cognitive wireless multicast based on D2D is still a great challenge for LTE social networks. In this paper, a joint sub-carriers and power allocation model based on D2D for general cognitive radio multicast (CR-D2D-MC) is proposed for Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) LTE systems. By opportunistically accessing the licensed spectrum, the maximized capacity for multiple cognitive multicast groups is achieved with the condition of the general scenario of imperfect spectrum sensing, the constrains of interference to primary users (PUs) and an upper-bound power of secondary users (SUs) acting as multicast source nodes. Furthermore, the fairness for multicast groups or unicast terminals is guaranteed by setting a lower-bound number of the subcarriers allocated to cognitive multicast groups. Lagrange duality algorithm is adopted to obtain the optimal solution to the proposed CR-D2D-MC model. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm improves the performance of cognitive multicast groups and achieves a good balance between capacity and fairness.

Cognitive radios are typically known to exploit vacant spectrum resources in order not to interfere with primary communication systems. However, cognitive radios may not be able to secure a clear spectrum band in a bustling spectrum band. Underlay spectrum sharing provides a way to cope with such a spectrum sharing problem. Cognitive radios share the same spectrum band with the spectrum licensees, i.e., primary users, by adjusting signal transmission power so as not to severely deteriorate the performance of the primary users. We propose an underlay spectrum sharing policy leveraging uplink spectrum resource to be used in a cellular network. A pair of end terminals attempts to establish a direct point-to-point link, and perform as cognitive radios in the sense that they share the uplink radio resource of other primary users. We formulate the transmit power constraints of the cognitive radios and propose a practical uplink band sharing framework. Our simulation results demonstrate that such an uplink sharing underlay direct link can enhance the throughput performance of point-to-point link with low overhead.

In this paper, the performance of cognitive radio network is analyzed in terms of Erlang capacity. To improve the Erlang capacity with respect to primary user (PU) and secondary user (SU) traffic, we propose an efficient radio resource management scheme utilizing the buffer for new SUs and interrupted SUs. Markov model is developed, and analyzed to derive the performances of the proposed spectrum sharing scheme in both primary system and secondary system. To determine the Erlang capacity region, the blocking probability, the forced termination probability and the non-completion probability are calculated. Simulation results provide insight into the advantages of the buffer utilization. It is observed that the supportable traffic loads of PU and SU can be increased significantly according to the buffer length.

In cognitive radio networks (CRNs), hybrid overlay and underlay sharing transmission mode is an effective technique for improving the efficiency of radio spectrum. Unlike existing works in the literature, where only one secondary user (SU) uses overlay and underlay modes, the different transmission modes should be allocated to different SUs, according to their different quality of services (QoS), to achieve the maximal efficiency of radio spectrum. However, hybrid sharing mode allocation for heterogeneous services is still a challenge in CRNs. In this paper, we propose a new resource allocation method for hybrid sharing transmission mode of overlay and underlay (HySOU), to achieve more potential resources for SUs to access the spectrum without interfering with the primary users. We formulate the HySOU resource allocation as a mixed-integer programming problem to optimize the total system throughput, satisfying heterogeneous QoS. To decrease the algorithm complexity, we divide the problem into two sub-problems: subchannel allocation and power allocation. Cutset is used to achieve the optimal subchannel allocation, and the optimal power allocation is obtained by Lagrangian dual function decomposition and subgradient algorithm. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm further improves spectrum utilization with a simultaneous fairness guarantee, and the achieved HySOU diversity gain is a satisfactory improvement.

Radio spectrum is a precious resource and characterized by fixed allocation policy. However, a large portion of the allocated radio spectrum is underutilized. Conversely, the rapid development of ubiquitous wireless technologies increases the demand for radio spectrum. Cognitive Radio (CR) methodologies have been introduced as a promising approach in detecting the white spaces, allowing the unlicensed users to use the licensed spectrum thus realizing Dynamic Spectrum Access (DSA) in an effective manner. This paper proposes a generalized framework for DSA between the licensed (primary) and unlicensed (secondary) users based on Continuous Time Markov Chain (CTMC) model. We present a spectrum access scheme in the presence of sensing errors based on CTMC which aims to attain optimum spectrum access probabilities for the secondary users. The primary user occupancy is identified by spectrum sensing algorithms and the sensing errors are captured in the form of false alarm and mis-detection. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed spectrum access scheme in terms of the throughput attained by the secondary users, throughput optimization using optimum access probabilities, probability of interference with increasing number of secondary users. The efficacy of the algorithm is analyzed for both imperfect spectrum sensing and perfect spectrum sensing.

This paper presents the results of an investigation into bi-directional communication in spectrum sharing-based cognitive radio (Bi-CR) systems. A Bi-CR system can increase the spectral efficiency significantly by sharing the spectrum and through the bi-directional use of spatial resources for two-way communication. On the other hand, the primary user experiences more interference from the secondary users in a Bi-CR system. Satisfying the interference constraint by simply reducing the transmission power results in performance degradation for secondary users. In addition, secondary users also experience self-interference from echo channels due to full duplexing. These imperfections may weaken the potential benefits of the Bi-CR system. Therefore, a new way to overcome these defects in the Bi-CR system is needed. To address this need, this paper proposes some novel power allocation schemes for the Bi-CR system. This contribution is based on two major analytic environments, i.e., noise-limited and interference-limited environments, for providing useful analysis. This paper first proposes an optimal power allocation (OPA) scheme in a noise-limited environment and then analyzes the achievable sum rates. This OPA scheme has an effect in the noise-limited environment. In addition, a power allocation scheme for the Bi-CR system in an interference-limited environment was also investigated. The numerical results showed that the proposed schemes can achieve the full duplexing gain available from the bi-directional use of spatial resources.

This paper proposes a novel swarm intelligence optimization method which integrates bacterial foraging optimization (BFO) with quantum computing, called quantum bacterial foraging optimization (QBFO) algorithm. In QBFO, a multi-qubit which can represent a linear superposition of states in search space probabilistically is used to represent a bacterium, so that the quantum bacteria representation has a better characteristic of population diversity. A quantum rotation gate is designed to simulate the chemotactic step for the sake of driving the bacteria toward better solutions. Several tests are conducted based on benchmark functions including multi-peak function to evaluate optimization performance of the proposed algorithm. Numerical results show that the proposed QBFO has more powerful properties in terms of convergence rate, stability and the ability of searching for the global optimal solution than the original BFO and quantum genetic algorithm. Furthermore, we examine the employment of our proposed QBFO for cognitive radio spectrum allocation. The results indicate that the proposed QBFO based spectrum allocation scheme achieves high efficiency of spectrum usage and improves the transmission performance of secondary users, as compared to color sensitive graph coloring algorithm and quantum genetic algorithm.

In almost all schemes of cooperative cognitive radio networks (CCRN), the users transmit and receive signals in half-duplex mode. In this paper, a design of CCRN adopting the full-duplex (FD) technique is addressed. In order to enable FD communication among users in the CCRN, simultaneous transmitting and receiving antennas are employed for the secondary users. Preliminary results from analysis and numerical evaluation indicate that the proposed FD multiple-input-multiple-output CCRN framework can provide a performance gain over the conventional CCRN frameworks.
The primary objective of this work was to discover a solution for the survival of people in an emergency flood. The geographical information was obtained from remote sensing techniques. Through helpline numbers, people who are in need request support. Although, it cannot be ensured that all the people will acquire the facility. A proper link is required to communicate with people who are at risk in affected areas. Mobile sensor networks with field-programmable gate array (FPGA) self-configurable radios were deployed in damaged areas for communication. Ad-hoc networks do not have a centralized structure. All the mobile nodes deploy a temporary structure and they act as a base station. The mobile nodes are involved in searching the spectrum for channel utilization for better communication. FPGA-based techniques ensure seamless communication for the survivors. Timely help will increase the survival rate. The received signal strength is a vital factor for communication. Cognitive radio ensures channel utilization in an effective manner which results in better signal strength reception. Frequency band selection was carried out with the help of the GRA-MADM method. In this study, an analysis of signal strength for different mobile sensor nodes was performed. FPGA-based implementation showed enhanced outcomes compared to software-based algorithms.
