  • We propose a combined STBC (Space Time Block Coding) and AMC (Adaptive Modulation and Coding) in the underwater multipath communication channel. Performance of UAC (underwater acoustic communication) in shallow water is degraded by complicated multipath and reverberation. For this reason, and considering the variability of the ocean channel, we combined STBC and AMC techniques, which are the spatial diversity in a multi-sensor communication system. BER (Bit error rate) of combined STBC and AMC is improved by 5dB when we compare with the BER of a single sensor based system. The proposed system shows a 3dB improvement when we compare it with the BER of the single sensor based system applying the AMC technique only.

  • Carrier interferometry code is considered as a promising scheme that provides significant performance improvement via frequency diversity effect. Space-time coding is commonly employed to achieve a performance gain through space diversity. The combination of these techniques and forward error correction coding will lead to enhanced system capacity and performance. This paper presents a low-density parity check (LDPC) coded space-time orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) transmission scheme with carrier interferometry code for high-capacity and high-performance mobile multimedia communications. Computer simulations demonstrate that the proposed mobile multimedia transmission system offers a considerable performance improvement of approximately 9dB in terms of Eb/No in the Rayleigh fading channel with relatively low delay spread, in comparison with space-time OFDM. Performance gains are further increased, comparing with traditional OFDM systems.

  • In this paper, the new technique combining beamforming with space-time coding is proposed for an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) system with multi-input multi-output(MIMO). When MIMO-OFDM system is employing Nt(the number of transmitterantenna) beamfomers and one S-T decoder at Nr receiver antennas, Nt signals removed CCI are outputted at the beamformer and then diversity gain can be got through space-time decoding. As the proposed technique can reduce cochannel interference and get diversity gain in the multi-user environment, the performance of MIMO-OFDM system is very improved. BER performance improvement and convergence behavior of the proposed approach are investigated through computer simulation by applying it to MIMO-OFDM system in the multi-user environment.

  • Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is a special technique for communication systems which can support the high data rate transmission with sufficient robustness to fading channels. Tansmitter diversity with space-time block coding (STBC) is an attractive transmission scheme to improve the performance of systems. In this paper, we compare the performance of space-time block coded OFDM systems with that of conventional OFDM systems over fast fading channels. The block-interleaved (BI) STBC and frequency hopping (FH) OFDM are proposed in the study to provide the maximum achievable diversity gains. As the simulation results, the STBC OFDM, Bl-STBC OFDM and Bl-STBC FH-OFDM provide the much improved performance over the conventional OFDM. And the Bl-STBC FH-OFDM also provide the better performance than the STBC OFDM and Bl-STBC OFDM, especially, in the case of the two transmit antennas are employed while BI-STBC FH-OFDM can maintain the same data rate of 12 Mbps.

  • In this paper, we propose a STF(Space-Time-Frequency) coded OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) transmission scheme as an attractive solution for high bit rate data transmission in a multipath fading environment. STBC(Space-Time Block Coding) has been proposed as a simple diversity scheme using two transmit antennas. Also ST-OFDM(Space-Time Block Coded OFDM) and SF-OFDM(Space-Frequency Block Coded OFDM) transmission scheme, that the STBC is applied to the OFDM, has been proposed. In this paper, we propose STF-OFDM transmission scheme that to coded in time, space and frequency domain. The STF-OFDM transmission scheme that we propose in this paper is the way to improve a performance of conventional ST-OFDM, by using frequency diversity.

  • In this paper, we propose a new transmit diversity technique for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems to improve the link level performance of open-loop systems. By cyclically applying a predetermined set of preceding weight vectors, artificially induced fluctuation is created to achieve additional diversity gain in flat fading channels. To design the set of the precoding vectors, we exploit the knowledge on the distribution of near optimum Preceding vectors observed in a beamforming scheme based on the rotation transformations. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed open-loop diversity scheme with an arbitrary number of transmit antennas achieves a full diversity gain with computational complexity comparable to a single-input single-output (SISO) system.

  • In this paper, we show the robustness of a proposed system using both a frequency diversity and a time diversity effect when the channel assumptions are relaxed such that all sub-bands are not independent fading. We take time-repetition coding with interleaving such that the repetition code symbols are spaced sufficiently far apart to guarantee time diversity. We also incorporate offset multicarriers into a proposed multicarrier DS-CDMA system in a different way compared to that of [10] to reduce the total multiple access interference. When we take a convolutional encoder instead of a time-repetition encoder, and again use both time diversity and frequency offset, then we can obtain the significant performance gain.

  • We have determined the complete chloroplast genome of Erigeron Canadensis isolated in Korea. The circular chloroplast genome of E. canadensis is 152,767 bp long and has four subregions: 84,317 bp of large single-copy and 18,446 bp of small single-copy regions are separated by 25,004 bp of inverted repeat regions including 133 genes (88 protein-coding genes, eight rRNAs, and 37 tRNAs). The chloroplast genome isolated in Korea differs from the Chinese isolate by 103 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and 47 insertions and deletion (INDEL) regions, suggesting different invasion sources of E. canadensis in Korea and China. A nucleotide diversity analysis revealed that the trend of the nucleotide diversity of E. canadensis followed that of 11 Erigeron chloroplasts, except for three peaks. The phylogenetic tree showed that our E. canadensis chloroplast is clustered with E. canadensis reported from China. Erigeron canadensis can be a good target when attempting to understand genetic diversity of invasive species.

  • In this paper, we investigate the error probability performance of noncoherently detected orthogonal modulation combined with Alamouti space-time block coding. We find that there are two types of pair-wise error probabilities that characterize the performance. We employ methods that allow a direct evaluation of exact, closed-form expressions for these error probabilities. Theoretical as well as numerical results show that noncoherent orthogonal modulation combined with space-time block coding (STBC) achieves full spatial diversity. We derive an expression for approximate average bit error probability for-ary orthogonal signaling that allows one to show the tradeoff between increased rate and performance degradation.
