남조류에서 발생하는 독소의 문제점과 대책 (An Overview of Problems Cyanotoxins Produced by Cyanobacteria and the Solutions Thereby)

  • 녹조현상을 형성하는 유독남조류는 세계 각지의 부영양화 호수에서 장기간 관찰되고 있다. 남조에 의해 생산되는 독소는 크게 신경독(anatoxin-a, anatoxin-a(s), saxitoxin)과 간독(microcystin, nodularin, cylindrospermopsin)으로 나뉜다. Microcystin은 남조세포내에 존재하며, 세포막이 손상되면 외부로 방출된다고 사료되며, 용출된 microcystin은 생물에 악영향을 끼치며, 호수, 하천 및 해양의 수생생물에 microcystin이 축적된다고 알려져 있다. 자연계에서는 포식자에 의한 남조세포의 섭식 또는 남조세포로부터 용출된 microcystin의 미생물에 의한 분해에 의해 microcystin의 제거가 가능하지만, 정수처리 과정에서는 microcystin을 분해하는 미생물이 존재하지 않으므로, 세포제거를 위해 황산구리를 사용할 경우 대량의 microcystin이 용출되므로 주의가 필요하다. 지금까지의 보고에 의하면 세포 밖으로 용출된 micorcystin을 제거하는 기술은 물리, 화학 및 생물학적 방법이 있다. 녹조현상의 방지는 그 발생의 원인인 호수 외로부터 유입되는 영양염류인 질소와 인의 감소가 기본이지만, 부영양호의 경우 이미 유입된 영양염류를 축적하고 있으므로 투자에 비해 효과는 높지 않다. 호수가 본래의 상태일 때 부영양화 된다면, 호수의 연안부에 수생식물의 침입이 일어나고, 식물플랑크톤에 의한 조류 번무 현상은 보이지 않는 것이 보통이다. 이러한 관점으로 녹조현상 발생방지를 위해서는 일단 호수 연안을 정상적인 상태로 복원할 필요가 있다.

한국 서.남해안 염습지 복원을 위한 염생식물의 생육지와 토양환경 분석 (Soil Environment Analysis and Habitat of Halophyte for Restoration in the Salt Marshes of Southern and Western Coasts of Korea)

  • 본 연구는 2006년 7월부터 2008년 4월까지 한국 서남해안의 대표적인 18개 해안 염습지에서 생육지와 토양특성을 조사하여 서남해안 염습지 식생복원을 위한 기초자료를 제시하였다. 조사지역은 염습지의 생육지 유형에 따라 1차적으로 해안성 염습지와 하구성 염습지로 구분하고, 2차적으로 해안성 염습지는 점토성 염습지, 사질성 염습지, 사구성 염습지, 하구성 염습지는 염소택지와 기수성 염습지로 구분하였다. 생육지 유형별 주요 식물군락은 점토성 염습지에서는 갈대군락, 천일사초군락, 칠면초군락, 사질성 염습지에서는 갈대군락, 갯잔디군락, 천일사초군락, 퉁퉁마디군락, 큰비쑥군락, 해홍나물군락, 사구성 염습지에서는 갯그령군락, 통보리사초군락, 순비기나무군락, 염소택지에서는 갈대군락, 갯잔디군락, 해홍나물군락, 천일사초군락, 하구 염습지에서는 칠면초군락, 갈대군락, 천일사초군락, 나문재군락으로 나타났다. 염생식물 군락분포지역의 토양 환경은 염생식물의 생육지 특성에 따른 염생식물군락과 토양의 차이가 나타났다. 따라서 해안 염습지를 복원할 경우, 염습지를 대상으로 생육지 토양의 물리적 특성, 이화학적특성을 파악하여 생육지 조건에 맞는 염생식물을 선정하고, 이식한 후 자연식생이 형성된 지역을 중심으로 점차 확장시킴으로써 염생식물이 안정적으로 정착, 발아, 생장하는데 유리할 것이다.

Electromechanical impedance-based long-term SHM for jacket-type tidal current power plant structure

  • Jacket-type offshore structures are always exposed to severe environmental conditions such as salt, high speed of current, wave, and wind compared with other onshore structures. In spite of the importance of maintaining the structural integrity for an offshore structure, there are few cases to apply a structural health monitoring (SHM) system in practice. The impedance-based SHM is a kind of local SHM techniques and to date, numerous techniques and algorithms have been proposed for local SHM of real-scale structures. However, it still requires a significant challenge for practical applications to compensate unknown environmental effects and to extract only damage features from impedance signals. In this study, the impedance-based SHM was carried out on a 1/20-scaled model of an Uldolmok current power plant structure in Korea under changes in temperature and transverse loadings. Principal component analysis (PCA)-based approach was applied with a conventional damage index to eliminate environmental changes by removing principal components sensitive to them. Experimental results showed that the proposed approach is an effective tool for long-term SHM under significant environmental changes.

택사의 육묘일수가 생육 및 수량에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Nursery Period on Growth and Yield in Alisma plantago)

  • 남부지방에서 벼조기재배 후작 택사의 육묘일수가 생육 및 수량에 미치는 영향과 꽃대 발생에 미치는 영향을 구명코자 선월종 1호외 2품종을 공시하여 실시한 시험 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 묘상에서의 초장과 엽수 20일육묘구가 30일육묘구나 40일 육묘구보다 가장 적어서 이식후 본답에서의 식상의 해가 전혀 없어 본답에서의 생육이 왕성하여, 초장이 길고 엽수가 많으며 건근중의 수량성이 높았다. 2. 묘상 일수별 꽃대 발생수도 20일육묘구가 30일 육묘구나 40일 육묘구에 비하여 가장적어서 생력재배에 가장 적합하였다.

석탄화력발전소 주변해역 퇴적물 내의 중금속원소의 함량과 지화학적 존재형태 (Concentration and Geochemical Phases of Heavy Metals in Marine Sediments in the Vicinity of the Coal-fired Power Plant of Korea)

  • Marine surface sediments in the vicinity of Samcheonpo coal-fired power plant were analyzed by a total analysis($HF+HNO_3+HClO_4$) and sequential extraction procedure for heavy metals in order to investigate the total concentrations and geochemical phases of heavy metals. The result showed that the concentrations of Cr, Cu, Fe and Zn were within ranges typical for coastal areas, which reflected the mineralogical composition of the sediments in the studied area. However, the distributions of Cd, Co, Mn, Ni and Pb were rather different from the former, indicating that these heavy metals had a different origin, or that they were affected by a different geochemical mechanism. Chemical partitioning of heavy metals using sequential extraction procedure revealed that Cu, Fe, Pb, Zn were significantly bound to the residual phases of the sediments, whereas carbonate phases contained considerable amounts of Mn. The significant association of Pb with the exchangeable fraction also indicated that Pb was more mobile and bioavailable than Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn.

잡음 환경 하에서의 전기-역학적 임피던스 기반 조류발전 구조물의 장기 건전성 모니터링 (Impedance-based Long-term Structural Health Monitoring for Tidal Current Power Plant Structure in Noisy Environments)

  • In structural health monitoring (SHM) using electro-mechanical impedance signatures, it is a critical issue for extremely large structures to extract the best damage diagnosis results, while minimizing unknown environmental effects, including temperature, humidity, and acoustic vibration. If the impedance signatures fluctuate because of these factors, these fluctuations should be eliminated because they might hide the characteristics of the host structural damages. This paper presents a long-term SHM technique under an unknown noisy environment for tidal current power plant structures. The obtained impedance signatures contained significant variations during the measurements, especially in the audio frequency range. To eliminate these variations, a continuous principal component analysis was applied, and the results were compared with the conventional approach using the RMSD (Root Mean Square Deviation) and CC (Cross-correlation Coefficient) damage indices. Finally, it was found that this approach could be effectively used for long-term SHM in noisy environments.

Zonation and soil factors of salt marsh halophyte communities

  • Background: The structures and soil factors of Suaeda glauca-Suaeda japonica zonal communities and Phragmites australis-S. japonica zonal communities were studied in salt marshes of west and south coasts of South Korea to provide basic data for coastal wetland conservation and restoration. Results: S. glauca community mean length was 67 m and S. japonica community mean length was 567 m in zonal communities, and P. australis and S. japonica community mean length were 57 m and 191 m in zonal communities. Regarding the electrical conductivity, sodium content, and clay contents in Upnae-ri, Shinan-gun, there were significant differences among zonal communities at significance level of 0.05 for two-sided t test. However, other factors were not significantly different. Conclusions: The results indicate that multiple factors such as electronic conductivity, total nitrogen level, clay, and sodium might play important roles in the formation of zonal plant communities of salt marshes.

삼천포화력발전소 주변해역 퇴적물의 지구화학적 연구 (Geochemical Study of Coastal Sediments around the Samcheonpo Coal-fired Power Plant)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the geochemical factors governing the distribution of heavy metals(Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn) in the marine surface sediment samples collected from the Samcheonpo coal-fired power plant. Variations of absolute metal concentrations were related to those in textural and/or carbonate and organic matter content. Most elements, except for Pb, showed generally lower contents compared with the average shale concentration, and the effect of anthropogenic input appeared to be minimal in the sediments. Computations of LF%(labile fraction) and EF(enrichment factor) based on all trace metal data indicated the presence of mineralogical control for Co, Cr, Cu, Ni, and Zn, and anthropogenic contamination for Pb, which needs to be considered in the design of long term monitoring programmes.

멸종위기 희귀식물인 갯방풍 자생지별 유전변이 및 유전적 다양성 연구 (Geographical Variation and Genetic Diversity of Glhenia littoralis Fr. Schmidt et Miquel based on the Analysis of Internal Transcribed Spacer(ITS) sequence and Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA(RAPD))

  • Glehnia littoralis Fr. Schmidt et Miquel is an important medicinal plants in East Asian countries. This plant species naturally distributed in Korea, Japan, China, and Taiwan, but it is a rare plants living in the coastal dune in Korea. To investigate the genetic variation, genetic diversity and genetic evolutionary relationships of 14 different geographical G. littoralis, ITS sequence and random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) were analyzed. On the basis of ITS sequences, it was clearly showed that the ITS1 and ITS2 sequences among 14 populations are identical regardless of geographical origin excepting 2 bp in pair-wise comparison of ITS1. Furthermore, RAPD results also showed that 14 different geographical G. littoralis produce various polymorphic patterns without critical relationship among neighboring regions. These combined results suggest that the geographical variation and genetic evolution of G. littoralis is stable and provide important information on genetic diversity, and conservation of this rare plant species in situ and ex situ.

고리원자력발전소 인근 조간대에 서식하는 퇴적물과 진주담치에 포함된 다환방향족 탄화수소(PAHs) (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons(PAHs) in Sediment and Mussels(Mytilus edulis) from the Intertidal Zone of Kori Nuclear Power Plant, Korea)

  • Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are ubiquitous contaminants in coastal marine environment. PAHs enter estuarine and nearshore marine environment via several routes such as combustion of fossil fuels, domestic and industrial effluents and oil spills. In August of 1997, sediment and mussels (Mytilus edulis) were collected at 6 sites near Kori nuclear power plant in order to analyze the PAH content by HPLC with uv/vis detection. The concentrations of 15 PAH in sediment ranged from < 1 to 5,900 ppb ( mean 173.5$\pm$99.7 ppb), and in mussels, from < 0.5 to 4,125 ppb (mean 105$\pm$60.5 ppb). Compared with other studies world over, the concentrations of carcinogenic PAHs were relatively low in both sediment and mussels from the intertidal zone of Kori. This study presents preliminary data for the PAH levels in sediment and mussels from the intertidal zone of Kori, and the data will hopefully be utilized for the assessment of oil pollution in the Southeast East Sea, Korea (especially for the PAHs).
