Eulsook-do's Change in Leisure Pattern by the Pre- and Post-Construction of Estuary Dike in the Coastal Area

  • The purpose of this study is the assessment of changes in the leisure patterns of users of the Eulsook-do before and after the estuary dike construction. The following survey research method was conducted to implement the study, sampling by age was carried out selectively and randomly alike. A total of 319 persons were chosen for final analysis, excluding questionnaires answered found to be inappropriate. To measure the image of the lower Nakdong River around the Eulsook-do, with advice sought from experts, researchers, through several pilot tests, developed a 24-item semantic differential scale(SDS) that has two bi-polar adjectives at each end Study of the pre- and post- construction images of the Eulsook-do located on the coast of Busan suggests the dike construction has brought about negative changes in the Eulsook-do's overall image. There can be two alternatives for improving the negative image: restoration and development.

  • This paper discusses the analysis of financial ratios of the Korean coastal passenger shipping company 1997 and 2000. Coastal passenger shipping company shows a very high ratio of the fixed-assets because these shipping company own relatively expensive ships. The current debts are composed of short-term borrowings and lease and the ratio of the current debts is rather high considering to the size of shipping company. The equity ratio of passenger shipping company has recently been decreased, but the debt ratio has been increased. Both the profitability and activity ratios have grown worse in recent years. In order to improve the performance of coastal passenger shipping company, they should develop the leisure facilities and good items to attract travellers.

A Plan for Building up Echo-marine Leisure Infrastructure for the Industrial Growth to Marine Leisure at Ho-Nam Area (호남지역 해양레저산업 발전을 위한 친환경 해양레저 기반시설 구축방안)

  • Many countries foster the tour and leisure industries as a national strategic industry of the 21st century. The tour and leisure industry is expected to be reorganized from the land-based industry to the ocean-based industry as the GNP in a nation is over USD $20,000{\sim}30,000$ dollars. In Korea, since we adopt a five-day week, the total working hours for a week is shortened. As the result, leisure activities in family, such as experience tour, ecological tour, travel, and overnight tour, are expected to be increased. Leisure and sports tours, which link the tour and sports to rafting, hang gliding, and marine leisure, have been also increased over 21.6%. A number of small and big islands near Ho-Nam coastal areas play an important role as natural breakwater. Thus, the ports in Ho-Nam area is safely protected from physical effects by ocean waves and is maintained without constructing a breakwater. In this paper, we analyses the required conditions as the marine leisure base in the southwest sea area which has the natural advantages for marine leisure. We also discuss how to activate the yacht business on Ho-Nam coast area. And then we analyse the present situations and obstacles of a domestic marine leisure. We also suggest the plan to build up echo-marine leisure infrastructure for industrial growth of marine leisure in Ho-Nam area.

A Study on the Analysis of the Elevation Blockage Ratio in the Conservation of the Coastal Landscape of Jeju (제주시 해안일주도로의 경관보전을 위한 건축물의 입면차폐도 분석에 관한 연구)

  • Although the coastal area of Jeju has already been developed, it has high pressure and demands for development continually increasing due to the increase of tourism and leisure activities. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to present objective guidance for the planning of the buildings on the seaside road with a view which have the largest impact on coastal landscape in order to enhance its visual quality. The results of this study are as follows : 1) It is chief element to make guidance for the use and planning of buildings in the conservation of the coastal landscape. 2) The D/H ratios which immediately influence an angle of elevation are different one another for the whole street. To ensure a sense of openness for the landscape, it is needed to maintain under $27^{\circ}$ angle of elevation, which demands 1~3 D/H ratio. 3) It is important to make 2.4 visual blockage ratio for whole street, but the actual condition is 4.48 ratio on average. To bring down the visual blockage ratio, the W/D ratio needs to be regulated. 4) Various techniques are also needed for lively building styles going with coastal landscape.

Sex Reversal Pattern of Wrasse in Jeju Coastal Waters

  • Eleven wrasse species inhabit the coastal waters of Jeju Island, Korea. They are the target of leisure fishing and are considered good eating. We investigated the distribution of standard length (SL) by sex of wrasse in Jeju coastal waters for Halichores poecilopterus, H. tenuispinis, Pseudolabrus japonicus, and Pteragogus flagellifera. A cross-section of the ovary showed the ovarian cavity and ovarian lamellae containing oocytes. A cross-section of the testis showed many lobules containing spermatogonia and spermatocytes. A cross-section of a gonad undergoing sex reversal showed the regression or reduction of oocytes and some spermatocytes located in the ovarian lamellae. A cross-section of a sex-reversed testis showed the primary structure of the ovary, with spermatocytes distributed in the epithelium of the lamellae, and reformed seminiferous ducts in the basement lamellae. A Comparative analysis of the Pre- and Post-Construction Image Analysis of the Nakdong Estuary as Coastal Tourism Resource

  • The purpose of this study is the comparative analysis of Susan citizens' images of Eulsook-do as a coastal tourism destination before and after the construction of a road bridge across the Nakdong estuary in order to analyze local people's changes in leisure patterns. Analysis of the images of a pre-construction Eulsook-do that people aged both 40 and less and 50 and more had on five dimensions showed values higher than zero(0) that suggests neutral image, while their images of a post-construction Eulsook-do showed the shrinking size of pentagon on all five dimensions: ET(Entertainment), CA(Culture & Art), EE(Environment & Ecology), RC(Recreation) and LP(Leports) dimensions. Its pre- and post- construction image analysis conducted 20 years after it came to be built finds that the road bridge construction has led to the ecological, environmental disruption of the coast and the lower Nakdong river, having negative influence on the images of Eulsook-so.

  • Busan is one of the most popular tourist cities of the Republic of Korea. To develop differentiated urban brand as the nation's flagship maritime city, Busan needs to explore diverse marine tourism stories and develop related contents. For the purpose of developing storytelling as a way to facilitate the maritime tourism of Busan, this study attempted to i) create 'marine leisure Galmaetgil of Busan' contents using 5-step storytelling modules and ii) develop themed tour routes based on the marine tourist contents and related graphic elements such as tour route map and image editing. Galmaetgil is a beautiful trail developed along the coastal line. It is one of the most famous tourist contents of Busan. Based on this asset, Busan would be able to develop its own tourist contents as the nation's proud marine-leisure city. The emotional stories which can draw a great attention from the citizens and tourists and informative storytelling would make people understand and experience marine leisure in a fun and easy.

Feasibility of Enhancing Fishing Household Income Through Leports-fishing Development (레포츠피싱을 통한 어가소득 증대에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims at analyzing the potential of leports-fishing for improving fishing household income. Leports-fishing is a composite concept which is combined with those of leisure, sports and fishing. Korean on-shore resources have also a composite characteristic. The characteristics of the east, west and south coastal waters are quite different in geography, biology and ecology. There is a array of leports-fishing development potentials of utilizing their characteristics. At present, angling forms a main activity of leports-fishing, but coastal seas would be an emerging space for the public. In order for them to be a ground of fun, enjoyment and festivals, there would be necessary to supply a wide range of activities including angling, scuba diving, fish barbecue, ecological experience, fishing experience, cruise, and so forth. As seen in the survey results, the participants have strong desire for fun and enjoyment through leports-fishing activities. The proportion of people participating in one or two times a year amounts to 40 percent. Most coastal places visited are close to medium/large cities and two-days leports-fishing/ tourism accounts for some 77 percent. However, it is shown that conflicts between leports-fishing participants and fishermen are not serious. The results of expenditure function estimation appear that the elasticity of per capita income is very high with 1.2660 and that there are negative relationships between leports-fishing expenditure and transportation/food/lodging costs. Assuming the economic growth rate of 4 percent, it is anticipated that Korean leports-fishing population will increase to 3.18 million in 2010 and 4.07 million in 2015. Korean leports-fishing market potential in 2015, which is calculated based on per capita expenditure on leports-fishing appeared to be 1,400 billion won$\sim$1,600 billion won. The contribution of such market potential is expected to be 62.3$\sim$74.2 percent(934.5 billion won$\sim$111.3 billion won) to the fishing households.

  • This paper reports the results of a comparative study on rudder performance between the steel rudders that have been used in coastal angling fishing boats in the 20-GT class and the newly developed FRP composite material rudders. In order to compare the rudder performances of these two types, a sea trial test was carried out to investigate the speed performance, fuel consumption, and ship's turning ability. The results showed that the sea trial performance of the FRP composite rudder was better than that of the steel rudder type in terms of the sea speed, fuel consumption rate, and turning ability.
