Effects of multilayer structure and annealing condition on the soft magnetic properties of sputtered Fe/CoNbZr multilayers were investigated. We observed a minimum coercivity (1.1 Oe) at 5 nm thick Fe layer and the maximum permeability (2300) at 15 nm Fe layer and high saturation magnetization in the as-deposited state. As a result of increase of Fe grain size, coercivity increases with increasing Fe layer thickness. Degradation of ${\mu}$ at the thin Fe layer region may be due to the intermixed phase of high magnetostriction, such as CoFe. Optimum annealing condition was obtained through annealing at 300 $^{\circ}C$ for 40 min (${\mu}$=2500, H$\sub$c/=0.35 Oe). Enhancement of permeability was observed in the temperature range of 250∼300$^{\circ}C$. These results may closely be related with lowering the anisotropy energy by lattice deformation (0.4%) and enhanced uniaxial anisotropy.

We studied the exchange anisotropy of Ni-Fe/Co-Fe/Mn-Ir/Cu/buffer/Si multilayers using D.C magnetron sputtering technique. Generally, Ni-Fe/Mn-Ir/buffer(Cu)/Si multilayers cannot pin the ferromagnetic layer for the lower exchange biased field. We got $H_{ex}$ ex/ increased by two times, after using Cu/Ta as buffer layer to get larger grain size of Mn-Ir layer and inserting very thin Co-Fe layer between the Ni-Fe layer and the Mn-Ir layer to get improved grain-to-grain epitaxy relation at the interface between Ni-Fe layer and Mn-Ir layer. The variation of $H_{ex}$ by thickness of Mn-Ir layer in ferromagnete/Mn-Ir/buffer/Si multilayers is different to that in Mn-Ir/ferromagnete/buffer/Si multilayers, because the volume distribution of grain size of Mn-Ir layer and the exchange energy at the interface between the Mn-Ir and the ferromagnetic layers is different for stacking sequence.
Perovskite-type mixed oxides LaBO$_3$(B = Mn, Fe, Co) were prepared by citrate sol-gel method in $air(850^{\circ}C$, 24h). The oxygen stoichiometries and structures of these oxides were determined by XRD and TPR results as followings; LaMnO$_{3.16}$(a = 5.507, c = 13.329 $\AA$, hexagonal), LaFeO$_{3.17}$(a = 5.554, b = 5.555, c = 7.863 $\AA$, orthorhomibic), LaCoO$_{3.0}$(a = 5.436, c = 13.095 $\AA$, hexagonal). The temperature programmed reduction(TPR) experiments in static 300 torr H$_2$ atmosphere shows that the reduction reaction of LaBO$_3$(B = Mn, Fe, Co) proceeds into two stages, and thermal stabilities of these oxides decreased in the order of LaMnO$_3$ > LaFeO$_3$ > LaCoO$_3$. According to the kinetic analysis the lowest activation energy was obtained for LaCoO$_3$.
Fe-Co nanocomposite powders with different composition were prepared by chemical vapor condensation (CVC) process and their characterizations were studied by means of X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometer. The particles having the mean size of 5~25 nm consisted of metallic cores and oxide shells. The Co contents and particle size increased with increasing the carrier gas flow rate of Co precursor. The saturation magnetization and coercivity increased with increasing Co content. and the saturation magnetization maximized at the 40 wt.%Co. The Fe-Co nanocomposite powder oxidized at $400^{\circ}C$ showed the maximum coercivity of 1739 Oe.
Exchange coupled $NiFe/TbCo/Sio_{2}$ thin films for magnetoresistive heads were sputter deposited using RF diode sputtering method, and their magnetic characteristics were measured. TbCo films were deposited using a composite target, which is composed of Tb chips epoxied on a Co target. NiFe($400\AA$)/TbCo($1500\AA$)/$SiO_{2}$($500\AA$) films were deposited using a TbCo target having 30 % of Tb area ratio, which showed 25 Oe of the exchange field without substrate bias and 12 Oe with -55 V of substrate bias. The effective in-plane coercivities of the three layer films fabricated with less than -55 V of substrate bias were approximately proportional to the perpendicular coercivities of the TbCo layer only. The films fabricated with a Theo target of 28 % area ratio showed the same trend. However, the exchange field decreased to 4 Oe without the substrate bias and 7 Oe with -55 V of substrate bias. In the films fabricated with 1000 W of power and the target of 36 % area ratio exhibited 100 Oe of exchange field and 3 Oe of coercivity. As the thickness of NiFe layer increased, the exchange field decreased.
NiFe(60$\AA$)/Co(5$\AA$)/Cu(60$\AA$)/Co(30$\AA$) spin valve thin films were patterned into magnetoresistive random access memory (MRAM) cells by a conventional optical lithography process and their output and switching properties were characterized with respect to the cell size and geometry. When 1 mA of constant sense current was applied to the cells, a few or a few tens of mV of output voltage was measured within about 30 Oe of external magnetic field, which is an adequate output property for the commercializing of competitive MRAM devices. In order to resolve the problem of increase in the switching thresholds of magnetic layers with the downsizing of MRAM cells, a new approach using the controlled shape anisotropy was suggested and interpreted by a simple calculation of anisotropy energies of magnetic layers consisting of the cells. This concept gave a reduced switching threshold in NiFe(60$\AA$)/Co(5$\AA$) layer consisting of the patterned cells from about 15 Oe to 5 Oe and it was thought that this concept would be much helpful for the realization of competitive MRAM devices.

Ni-Mn-Co-Fe oxide thick films were coated on an alumina substrate by screening printing technique. The microstructure and electrical properties of the thick films, as a function of composition and sintering temperature, were investigated. The components of the NTC thick films sintered at 1150${\circ}C$ were distributed homogeneously. On the other hand, in the case of the NTC thick films sintered at 1200 and 1250${\circ}C$, Co element was distributed homogeneously, but Ni, Mn and Fe elements were distributed heterogeneously, resulting in the formation of Ni rich and Mn-Fe rich regions. All the thick film NTC thermistors prepared showed a linear relationship between log resistance (log R) and the reciprocal of absolute temperature (1/T), indicative of NTC characteristics. At a given NiO and $Mn_3O_4$ content, the resistance, B constant and activation energy of $(Ni_{1.0}Mn_{1.0}Co_{1-x}Fe_x)O_4$ (0.25${\le}$x${\le}$0.75) and $(Ni_{0.75}Mn_{1.25}Co_{1-x}Fe_x)O_4$ (0.25${\le}$x${\le}$0.75) thermistors increased with increasing $Fe_2O_3$ content.
${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ spherical particles having an average diameter of ca. 420 nm and ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ fine particles (< 10 ${\mu}m$ particle size) were prepared to examine as catalysts for CO oxidation. Kinetic studies on the catalytic reactions were performed in a flow reactor using an on-line gas chromatography system operated at 1 atm. The apparent activation energies and the partial orders with respect to CO and $O_2$ were determined from the rates of CO disappearance in the reaction stage showing a constant catalytic activity. In the temperature range of $150-275^{\circ}C$, the apparent activation energies were calculated to be 13.7 kcal/mol on the ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ spherical submicron clusters and 15.0 kcal/mol on the ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ fine powder. The Pco and $Po_2$ dependencies of rate were investigated at various partial pressures of CO and $O_2$ at $250^{\circ}C$. Zero-order kinetics were observed for $O_2$ on both the catalysts, but the reaction order for CO was observed as first-order on the ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ fine powder and 0.75-order on the ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ spherical submicron clusters. The catalytic processes including the inhibition process by $CO_2$ on the ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ spherical submicron powder are discussed according to the kinetic results. The catalysts were characterized using XRD (X-ray powder diffraction), FE-SEM (field emission-scanning electron microscopy), HR-TEM (high resolution-transmission electron microscopy), and $N_2$ sorption measurements.
$NiFe/TbCo/Si_3N_4$ thin films were fabricated, which can be employed as dualOongitudinal and transverse) biased magnetoresistive elements utilizing surface magnetic exchange at the interface of NiFe/TbCo films. When Tb area percent was 36 % and substrate bias was not applied, magnetic exchange fields of 100~180 Oe were obtained. The thicknesses of NiFe, TbCo and $Si_3N_4$(Protective layer) were $470\;{\AA},\;2400\;{\AA}\;and\;600\;{\AA}$, respectively. Magnetoresistance ratio of 1.45 % was obtained using NiFe films fabricated with 1000 W power and 2.5 mTorr of Ar pressure. The MR ratio of microstructured elements was reduced to 1.31 % and the MR response curves were shown not to saturate due to demagnetizing fields of the elements. When elements were fabricated with $36^{\circ}$ of misalignment with respect to the exchange field direction using films having 150 Oe exchange field, MR response curve was shifted by 85 Oe, and the operating point of the device shifted to the linear region of the response. Also, the Barkhausen noise was eiminated due to longitudinal bias field originating from the exchange field.
Exchange bias effect of a various layered thin films were studied by FMR measurment. In plane angular dependence of a resonance field distribution which measured by FMR was analysed as a combined effect of an unidirectional anisotropy and an uniaxial anisotropy. Exchange biased NiFe/IrMn, IrMn/NiFe/IrMn, and NiFe/IrMn/CoFe thin films showed larger unidirectional anisotropy field and uniaxial anisotropy field with compared to that of an unbiased NiFe single thin film. In case of NiFe/Cu/IrMn, the film with thick Cu layer exhibited a similar trend to the unbiased NiFe thin film. NiFe/IrMn/CoFe thin film showed two resonance field distribution due to different ferromagnetic layers. In additon to the resonance field, the line width was also analysed with related to exchange bias effect.
