The data collected from 120 luxury consumers and 92 samples were statistically analyzed with SPSS 15.0, reliability test, factor analysis, ANOVA, frequency test, regression, and t-test. The findings are as follow. First, luxury brands were divided into two groups by innovative design characteristics and traditional design characteristics; innovative design characteristics show a significant influence on brand attitude and purchase intention. Second, only fashion related behavior factors among consumer characteristics became moderators when design characteristics influenced brand attitude and purchase intention. Third, the differences in purchase intention affected by design characteristics were found in bags, shoes, and accessories category. It was identified in the review of fashion trend that the major change in the recent fashion trend was the turning of focus from 'Minimalism-influenced' to 'Maximalism-influenced'. Total 176 of Korean women, who preferred 'Minimalism-influenced' or 'Maximalism-influenced' style, were sampled and asked to response on a self-report questionnaire with stimuli developed for this study. According to the respondents’ acceptance and preference of either one of the two streams, each respondent was allocated to one of the two groups which were named as 'Minimal-preference group' or 'Maximal-preference group'. The reasons of their preference, traits in trend-related attitude and demographic variables of both groups were analyzed and compared. The degree of clothing involvement and fashion leadership of Maximal-preference group, who accepted the new trend, were found to be significantly higher than those of Minimal-preference group. Maximal-preference group had significantly higher level of income and expenditure on fashion than Minimal-preference group. • The term fashion sense is used in everyday conversations by consumers to refer to the ability of people who dress well in attractive ways or to refer to the competencies or expertise of fashion professionals. Despite the frequent use of the term, its concept has rarely been explored systematically. In this study, we performed in-depth interviews with 14 fashion experts to clarify the concept of fashion sense. The core elements of fashion sense were explored based on the interview results. As a result, twelve core elements were identified that included visual ability, aesthetic experience, aesthetic recognition ability, intuition, self-consciousness, self-efficacy, fashion experience, involvement in fashion, creativity, innate sense, environmental support, and development due to education. In addition to these twelve core elements, 42 supplementary elements were identified. This study is to help initiate an academic discussion of the concept of fashion sense as a competency that fashion experts should develop. The findings of this study can provide practical and educational implications for the fashion industry and academia.

  • Older people have increased interest and involvement in controlling their aging body through physical exercise and dieting. This study examined the relationship between body image and the participation of older people in exercise and dieting. Two measures of body image (appearance attitude and appearance orientation) were used to study their relationships to participation in exercise and dieting among older people. Data were collected via a mail survey of older married couples residing in three U.S. metropolitan areas of Florida. A total of 94 couples who were 60 years older participated in this study. Multiple regression was run separately for men and women. The results indicated that for both men and women, appearance attitude was inversely related to dieting and positively related with exercise (even though the relationship with exercise was weak for men). Appearance orientation was not significantly related to exercise or dieting for both men and women. A new scale development on body image for an aging population was suggested. Various activities performed by aging people to manage their aging body and appearance need to be studied as related to physical and psychological well-being that includes body image.

An empirical study surveyed male and female consumers 25 years of age and older in Daegu, Korea, in August 2011. A total of 338 responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics and chi-square analysis of SPSS 19.0. The results identified the effects of the number, gender, age, attractiveness, and taste of other customers in fashion retail settings. In addition, differences in the effect of customer-to-customer interactions according to consumer attributes were also verified. The sample of this study preferred a shopping condition of many shoppers in the store, the same gender shoppers in the store, the same aged shoppers in the store, an attractive shopper in the store, and a shopper having the same taste in the store. Female consumers showed a preference for a store environment with many shoppers and the same gender shoppers to a store of no shoppers and different gender shoppers compared to male consumers. Aged consumers and fashion-involved consumers liked to shop with more attractive persons than less attractive persons. Fashion-innovative consumers wanted to enter a store where the other customers have similar tastes.

  • Consumers believe it is more profitable to buy products at a discount price than at a fixed price. However, consumers who miss an opportunity for a discount would experience regret; consequently, they may also forgo a purchase despite experiencing regret if a subsequent opportunity was no more attractive than the initial one. This phenomenon has been conceptualized as inaction inertia. In this study we investigate if consumers showed behavior of inaction inertia under the situation of fashion products purchase as well as if price and involvement had a moderating effect on product purchase. The following are the results of the research based on an empirical investigation. First, according to the results of influence of inaction inertia on purchase intention, respondents exposed to scenario of experiencing similar price discount in the past, both under high-price situations and low-price situations, made statistically fewer responses than those exposed to situations without such experience; therefore, effect of inaction inertia could be confirmed. Second, the moderating effect of product price on relationships between inaction inertia and purchase intention was not statistically significant.
