Objectives : The purpose of this study was to compare results of dental satisfaction at different type of character and provide basic materials for making the valuable strategies of dental service. Methods : Data was obtained from 256 patients using questionnaire from September 5 to October 13, 2007. Self-administered questionnaires was utilized to assess their types of personal psychological variable and find out its influential factors upon dental consumers and their intent of revisit. The data was analyzed with t-test, one-way ANOVA and logistic regression using the SPSS 14.0 Windows. Results : There is no meaningful difference in dental satisfaction as for character types and factors. Considering the difference of dental satisfaction according to general characteristics, there was a meaningful difference between groups of gender. Also interpersonal relationship as well as level of skill is significantly high in periodical dental visit. Conclusion : The results of this study indicated that environment and facility, cost is the most important influencing factor in determining whether or not the patient will visit a dental clinic repeatedly. In the future, more precise and in-depth questionnaires should be developed to analyze dental consumers.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effects of myofascial release technique on pain threshold and hormonal changes in patients with adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder. Methods: Eight patients with adhesive capsulitis were treated with the myofascial release technique. Myofascial release is a form of manual therapy that involves the application of a low load, long duration stretch to the myofascial complex, intended to restore optimal length, decrease pain, and improve function. Blood tests and pressure pain threshold (PPT) examinations were performed on their first visit. On their second visit, the myofascial release technique was applied to the shoulder for 20 min. Then, blood tests and PPT were re-evaluated to determine the effects of the myofascial release technique on pain threshold and hormonal changes. Results: Pain threshold increased from 2.92 to 24.13 lb after treatment. Epinephrine decreased from .13 to .08 ng/mL whereas norepinephrine increased from .25 to .41ng/㎖ after treatment. Conclusion: Myofascial release technique in patients with adhesive capsulitis increased pain thresholds, norepinephrine and decreased epinephrine levels.
Purpose: This study examined the influencing factors of caregiver burden on the oral health-related quality of life of the spouse of an elderly person with dementia at home. Methods: The participants were 115 spouses of dementia patients registered at dementia safety centers in five health centers in D city. Data were collected from June through December in 2019, using questionnaires of Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-49) and Burden Interview (BI). The data were analyzed using an independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple regression analysis using the IBM SPSS Statistics 25.0 Program. Results: A negative correlation was observed between the oral health-related quality of life and caregiver burden (r=-37, p<.001). The caregiver burden (β=-.28, p=.001), subjective health status (β=.39, p<.001), and dental clinic visit (β=-.25, p=.002) explained 33.0% of the variance in the oral health-related quality of life. Conclusion: The development of nursing care for spouses of dementia patients will be needed to reduce the caregiver burden and enhance subjective health status and dental clinic visit, which influence the oral health-related quality of life of spouse of elderly people with dementia at home.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the effectiveness of Sihochunggan-tang gagambang in two patients with erythema multiforme which ocurred repeatedly in stress condition.Methods: This case study was conducted in two erythema multiforme(EM) patients who have visited Korean Medicine Clinic. All two patients were treated with Sihochunggan-tang gagambang and acupuncture. VAS(Visual Analogue Scale) score was used to check the subjective change of skin symptoms and itching sense.Results & Conclusions: The VAS score were decreased compared to the initial visit in all two patients in our study. And most skin symptoms and itching sense of two patients were improved. As a result of examining VAS scores and photographs, Sihochunggan-tang gagambang can be effective on EM in two cases in our study.
Objective: This study investigated the perception, utilization, and satisfaction (in the general population), of the common cold treatment at the Korean Medical Clinic, to provide basic information for the development of Korean medicine clinical practice guidelines for the common cold. Method: A questionnaire was developed that consisted of questions about the general perception, utilization status, degree of satisfaction, willingness to use, and the improvement of the common cold treatment at the Korean Medical Clinic. An online survey was conducted using this questionnaire. Results: Three-hundred subjects responded to the survey. The results of the analysis were as follows. 1. 73.7% of the subjects recognized the common cold treatment at the Korean Medical Clinic. 2. 72% of the subjects had a positive perception of Korean medicine for common cold treatment. The major reason for the positive perception was the expectation about improving immunity and preventing recurrence. 3. Only 20% of the subjects had visited the Korean Medical Clinic for common cold treatment. The expensive cost was the major reason for not visiting the Korean Medical Clinic for common cold treatment. 4. The ratio of subjects who were willing to visit the Korean Medical Clinic for common cold treatment was 70%. 5. The expansion of health insurance coverage (67.7%), the activation of public relations (54.7%), and the development of a new herb medicine preparation that was easy to take (43.3%) were found to be necessary for improving the Korean medical service for common cold treatment. Conclusion: In spite of high recognition and positive perception, actual utilization of common cold treatment at the Korean Medical Clinic was relatively low. Multifaceted efforts are necessary to enhance the competitiveness of Korean medical service for treatment of the common cold.
Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the opinion of dental hygienists toward school dental clinic operation. Methods: The study was carried out by telephone or e-mail to the dental hygienists in 415 elementary school dental clinics from September 1 to 30, 2014. The questionnaires were collected from 208 school dental clinics. Except incomplete answers, 148 data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 program. The self-reported questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects(7 items), operation of school dental clinic(5 items), obstacle to school dental clinic(10 items), and effective operation of school dental clinic(5 items). Results: The school dental clinic operation accounted for 68.7% and 90.6% of the respondents answered that it was very effective for the oral health improvement. The dental hygienists answered that the clinic operation was very effective in oral disease prevention(37.1%), oral health knowledge and behavior(32.8%), oral health behavior habit(29.3%), and oral health improvement(0.9%). The change of the current operation into full time employee accounted for 79.7% and only 16.1% agreed to current operation of clinic visit by the community health center. The results showed that need for dentist was 3.69 by Likert 5 point scale. Conclusions: The oral health policy must be established to develop and implement the oral health programs for the school clinics.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is understanding the behavior of the laborer relating oral health. Oral health is one of the most important requirement in the healthy life of the laborer. Also it is important to supply the welfare of the people. Methods : For this purpose survey to 400 urban laborer was carried out with questionnaire from October to November, 2009. Among them, 346 available responses were analysed with SPSS 12.0 statistic package. Results : The major findings of the study were as follows:First, Monthly income of 76.6 % of the laborer investigated was below 2500,000 won. Second, 56.1 % of the laborer investigated has the experience to visit dental clinic in the last two years. Third, 35.6 % of the laborer investigated has no experience to visit dental clinic in the last three years. Fourth, The average number of absent days due to oral disease were 0.11 day in a year. Fifth, The average number of the days fail to finish the work of the day due to oral disease were 0.32 day in a year. Sixth, 56.5% of the laborer investigated had no experience of oral health education, because of having no chance. Seventh, Factory bulletin and internet service is preferred as the source of the information on the oral health education. Eighth, In order to improve the status of oral health of laborer, periodical oral health examination and oral health education is needed. Conclusions : In order to improve the oral health of laborer, better public health policy is required, and it is made from understanding the behavior of the laborer relating oral health.
Objectives : This study aimed to suggest distinct signs of Greater yin disease (tàiyīnbìng, 太陰病) by researching the etymology of three terms: zi-tong (自痛), jie-ying (結硬), and yin-er (因爾), which are exclusive found only in Greater yin disease (太陰病) in Gangpyeong-shanghanlun, but not in other categories. Methods : We studied the etymologies of the three terms that are unique in Greater yin disease, then found some pathological signs that are related with them through the four mental illness cases, which include somatization, obsessive-compulsive behavior, delusion, and panic disorder. Results : Based on the definitions of each term, we diagnosed the four patients who had mental illnesses as having Greater yin disease, and we observed meaningful improvements after administering herbal medication. After Gyejigajakyak-tang administration, the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) score decreased from 18 to 7 and the Beck's Anxiety Index (BAI) score decreased from 36 to 18 in the first case, the ISI score decreased from 27 to 16 and the BAI score decreased from 50 to 33 in the second case, and the ISI score decreased from 23 to 4 and the BAI score decreased from 34 to 5 in the third case. In the last case, the ISI and BAI scores were 16 and 22, respectively, at the first visit, and it was found that the scores had changed to 6 and 22, respectively, at the last visit. Conclusions : We found that the unique terms in Greater yin disease, including zi-tong (自痛), jie-ying (結硬), and yin-er (因爾), can be interpreted as groundless arbitrary assumption, resting strong tension, and psychological projection based on the etymological hypothesis. Therefore, we suggest these as specific signs of Greater yin disease.
Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficiency of the outpatient clinics in a hospital, using DEA. Methods: Data were collected using an activity-based costing system, medical information system, and annual reports of customer satisfaction management team of a general hospital in a city. The input variables were the number of doctors, the number of nurses, and the number of staffs. The output variables were the number of treatment times, the number of outpatient clinic patients, the total profits from outpatient clinic, the patient's satisfaction score, and the number of re-visit appointments. EMS Window version 3.1 was used to measure the efficiency score and benchmarking analysis. Results: The average efficiency score of 24 outpatient clinics was about 82.01%. Thirteen outpatient clinics had 100% efficiency score among them. The lowest efficiency score was 57.56%. Conclusion: According to these results, we found that, generally, outpatient clinics were operated very efficiently. However, some outpatient clinics had low efficiency and they needed specialized outcome improvement strategies. To increase the efficiency of inefficient outpatient clinics, we will recommend using results of DEA, as a benchmark point of the most efficient outpatient clinics.
The purpose of this study was to provide basic information for improving oral health and dental hygiene through comprehensive dental hygiene care. The subjects in this study were 54 patients who had been treated for 4 weeks in clinic of the Dental Hygiene Department of G University under comprehensive dental hygiene control and care and measured their oral condition, intensity of oral malodor, Simplified Oral Hygiene Index (S-OHI), and Modified Personal Hygiene Performance Index (PHP-M), and surveyed their oral health behavior and oral health consciousness. The results of the study were as follows: 1. The intensity of malodor decreased by 16.49ppb from 75.33ppb on the first visit to 50.84ppb on the last visit when the comprehensive dental hygiene care had been finished. 2. As to change in S-OHI according to gender between the first visit and the last visit for comprehensive dental hygiene care, S-OHI decreased from 2.89 on the first visit to 1.16 on the last visit, and the difference was statistically highly significant. 3. As to change in PHP-M index by tooth according to gender and age between the first visit and the last visit, PHP-M index of the first 6 teeth decreased very significantly from 0.50 on the first visit to 0.34 on the last visit. 4. As a whole, significant improvement was observed in every tooth. According to gender and age, PHP-M index for Tooth No. 26, 36 and 32 decreased significantly in men and women, and those aged under 30 and those aged 30 or over, but for Tooth No. 13 and 15 and 44 it decreased significantly only in men and those aged 30 or over, and for Tooth No. 44 only in men. As presented above, the oral health behavior and oral health consciousness of the visitors to the oral prophylaxis practice room are very important, and it is necessary to enhance their interest in and knowledge of how to improve oral health. Furthermore, comprehensive dental hygiene care required for improving the visitors' oral health.
