  • In this paper, we introduce a domain-independent classification framework based on both k-nearest neighbor and Naive Bayesian classification algorithms. The architecture of our system is simple and modularized in that each sub-module of the system could be changed or improved efficiently. Moreover, it provides various feature selection mechanisms to be applied to optimize the general-purpose classifiers for a specific domain. As for the enhanced classification performance, our system provides conditional probability boosting (CPB) mechanism which could be used in various domains. In the mood classification domain, our optimized framework using the CPB algorithm showed 1% of improvement in precision and 2% in recall compared with the baseline.

  • Three new classification methods for multi temporal images are proposed. They are named as a likelihood addition method, a likelihood majority method and a Dempster-Shafer's rule method. Basic strategies using these methods are to calculate likelihoods for each temporal data and to combine obtained likelihoods for final classification. These three methods use different combining algorithms. From classification experiments, following results were obtained. The method based on Dempster-Shafer's rule of combination showed about 12% improvement of classification accuracies compared to a conventional method. This method needed about 16% more processing times than that of a conventional method. The other two proposed method showed 1% to 5% increase of classification accuracies. However processing times of these two proposed method showed 1% to 5% increase of classification accuracies. However processing times of these two methods are almost the same with that of a conventional method. Among the newly proposed three methods, the Dempster-Shafer's rule method showed the highest classification accuracies with more processing time than those of other methods.

  • In recent years, sentiment analysis research has become popular. The research results of sentiment analysis have achieved remarkable results in practical applications, such as in Amazon's book recommendation system and the North American movie box office evaluation system. Analyzing big data based on user preferences and evaluations and recommending hot-selling books and hot-rated movies to users in a targeted manner greatly improve book sales and attendance rate in movies [1, 2]. However, traditional machine learning-based sentiment analysis methods such as the Classification and Regression Tree (CART), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and k-nearest neighbor classification (kNN) had performed poorly in accuracy. In this paper, an improved kNN classification method is proposed. Through the improved method and normalizing of data, the purpose of improving accuracy is achieved. Subsequently, the three classification algorithms and the improved algorithm were compared based on experimental data. Experiments show that the improved method performs best in the kNN classification method, with an accuracy rate of 11.5% and a precision rate of 20.3%.

  • Classification systems can significantly assist the medical sector by allowing for the precise and quick diagnosis of diseases. As a result, both doctors and patients will save time. A possible way for identifying risk variables is to use machine learning algorithms. Non-surgical technologies, such as machine learning, are trustworthy and effective in categorizing healthy and heart-disease patients, and they save time and effort. The goal of this study is to create a medical intelligent decision support system based on machine learning for the diagnosis of heart disease. We have used a mixed feature creation (MFC) technique to generate new features from the UCI Cleveland Cardiology dataset. We select the most suitable features by using Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO), Recursive Feature Elimination with Random Forest feature selection (RFE-RF) and the best features of both LASSO RFE-RF (BLR) techniques. Cross-validated and grid-search methods are used to optimize the parameters of the estimator used in applying these algorithms. and classifier performance assessment metrics including classification accuracy, specificity, sensitivity, precision, and F1-Score, of each classification model, along with execution time and RMSE the results are presented independently for comparison. Our proposed work finds the best potential outcome across all available prediction models and improves the system's performance, allowing physicians to diagnose heart patients more accurately.

  • Remotely sensed data is the most fundamental data in acquiring the GIS informations, and may be analyzed to extract useful thematic information. Multi-spectral classification is one of the most often used methods of information extraction. The actual multi-spectral classification may be performed using either supervised or unsupervised approaches. This paper analyze the effect of assigning clever initial values to image classes on the performance of parallelepiped classification algorithm, which is one of the supervised classification algorithms. First, we investigate the effect on serial computing model, then expand it on MIMD(Multiple Instruction Multiple Data) parallel computing model. On serial computing model, the performance of the parallel pipe algorithm improved 2.4 times at most and, on MIMD parallel computing model the performance improved about 2.5 times as clever initial values are assigned to image class. Through computer simulation we find that initial values of image class greatly affect the performance of parallelepiped classification algorithms, and it can be improved greatly when classes on both serial computing model and MIMD parallel computation model.

  • An approach for the classification of music genres using a Fuzzy c-Means(FcM) with divergence-based kernel is proposed and presented in this paper. The proposed model utilizes the mean and covariance information of feature vectors extracted from music data and modelled by Gaussian Probability Density Function (GPDF). Furthermore, since the classifier utilizes a kernel method that can convert a complicated nonlinear classification boundary to a simpler linear one, he classifier can improve its classification accuracy over conventional algorithms. Experiments and results on collected music data sets demonstrate hat the proposed classification scheme outperforms conventional algorithms including FcM and SOM 17.73%-21.84% on average in terms of classification accuracy.

  • Subject classification of thesis units is essential to serve scholarly information deliverables. However, to date, there is a journal-based topic classification, and there are not many article-level subject classification services. In the case of academic papers among domestic works, subject classification can be a more important information because it can cover a larger area of service and can provide service by setting a range. However, the problem of classifying themes by field requires the hands of experts in various fields, and various methods of verification are needed to increase accuracy. In this paper, we try to classify topics using the unsupervised learning algorithm to find the correct answer in the unknown state and compare the results of the subject classification algorithms using the coherence and perplexity. The unsupervised learning algorithms are a well-known Hierarchical Dirichlet Process (HDP), Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) and Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) algorithm.

  • Packet classification is one of the basic and important functions of the Internet routers, and it became more important along with new emerging application programs requiring real-time transmission. Since packet classification should be accomplished in line-speed on each incoming input packet for multiple header fields, it becomes one of the challenges in designing Internet routers. Various packet classification algorithms have been proposed to provide the high-speed packet classification. Hierarchical approach achieves effective packet classification performance by significantly narrowing down the search space whenever a field lookup is completed. However, hierarchical approach involves back-tracking problem. In order to solve the problem, set-pruning trie and grid-of-trie algorithms are proposed. However, the algorithm either causes excessive node duplication or heavy pre-computation. In this paper, we propose a smart set-pruning trie which reduces the number of node duplication in the set-pruning trie by the simple merging of the lower-level tries. Simulation result shows that the proposed trie has the reduced number of copied nodes by 2-8% compared with the set-pruning trie.

  • The Internet users want to get real-time services for various multi-media applications. Network traffic rate has been rapidly increased, and data amounts that the Internet has to carry have been exponentially increased. A packet is the basic unit in transferring data at the Internet, and packet classification is one of the most challenging functionalities that routers should perform at wire-speed. Among various known packet classification algorithms, area-based quad-trie (AQT) algorithm is one of the efficient algorithms which can lookup five header fields simultaneously. As a representative space decomposition algorithm, the AQT requires a small amount of memory in storing classification rules, but it does not provide high-speed classification performance. In this paper, we propose a new packet classification algorithm by applying a binary search for the codewords of the AQT to overcome the issue of the AQT. Throughout simulation, it is shown that the proposed algorithm provides a better performance than the AQT in the number of rule comparisons with each input packet.
