GA-based Two Phase Method for a Highly Reliable Network Design (높은 신뢰도의 네트워크 설계를 위한 GA 기반 두 단계 방법)

  • Generally, the network topology design problem, which is difficult to solve with the classical method because it has exponentially increasing complexity with the augmented network size, is characterized as a kind of NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem. The problem of this research is to design the highly reliable network topology considering the connection cost and all-terminal network reliability, which can be defined as the probability that every pair of nodes can communicate with each other. In order to solve the highly reliable network topology design problem minimizing the construction cost subject to network reliability, we proposes an efficient two phase approach to design reliable network topology, i.e., the first phase employs, a genetic algorithm (GA) which uses $Pr\ddot{u}fer$ number for encoding method and backtracking Algorithm for network reliability calculation, to find the spanning tree; the second phase is a greedy method which searches the optimal network topology based on the spanning ree obtained in the first phase, with considering 2-connectivity. finally, we show some experiments to demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of our two phase approach.

The Experimental Comparison of the Uniaxial and Biaxial Tensile Strengths of Concretes (일축 및 이축 휨인장강도의 실험적 비교)

  • The characteristics of the biaxial flexural tensile strength of concretes was compared to that of the uniaxial strength. The uniaxial and biaxial strengths in this study were obtained from the classical modulus of rupture test and the biaxial flexural test recently developed by Zi and Oh and Zi et al., respectively. Three different sizes were considered to investigate the effect of the size of aggregates. To estimate the stochastic aspect of the strength, 32 specimens were used for each test. The average biaxial flexural fracture strength was about 20% greater than the uniaxial test. At the same time, the coefficient of variation for the biaxial test was 18% greater than the uniaxial test. This means that the probability of the biaxial cracking can be greater than the uniaxial cracking.

  • Due to advancements in technology and manufacturing capability, it is not uncommon that life tests yield no or few failures at low stress levels. In these situations it is difficult to analyse lifetime data and make meaningful inferences about product or system reliability. For some products or systems whose performance characteristics degrade over time, a failure is said to have occurred when a performance characteristic crosses a critical threshold. The measurements of the degradation characteristic contain much useful and credible information about product or system reliability. Degradation measurements of the performance characteristics of an unfailed unit at different times can directly relate reliability measures to physical characteristics. Reliability prediction based on physical performance measures can be an efficient and alternative method to estimate for some highly reliable parts or systems. If the degradation process and the distance between the last measurement and a specified threshold can be established, the remaining useful life is predicted in advance. In turn, this prediction leads to just in time maintenance decision to protect systems. In this paper, we describe techniques for mapping product or system which has degrading performance parameter to the associated classical reliability measures in the performance domain. This paper described a general modeling and analysis procedure for reliability prediction based on one dominant degradation performance characteristic considering pseudo degradation performance life trend model. This pseudo degradation trend model is based on probability modeling of a failure mechanism degradation trend and comparison of a projected distribution to pre-defined critical soft failure point in time or cycle.

Secure Direct Communication protocol Using Entanglement Swapping (Entanglement Swapping을 이용한 안전한 직접 통신 프로토콜)

  • We propose a direct communication protocol using entanglement swapping. The safety of this protocol is guaranteed by the basic properties of entanglement swapping. This protocol is efficient to transmit two classical bits of information per one session. This efficiency is better than that of ping-pong protocol suggested by Bostrom and Felbinger. Even if an eavesdropper intervenes in midway, the eavesdropper will be detected with the probability of $75\%$ in the verification process of one bit. Therefore the perfect security is guaranteed if we use enough amount of bits for the verification process.

Surgical Outcomes of Cor Triatriatum Sinister: A Single-Center Experience

  • Background: We investigated surgical outcomes after the surgical repair of cor triatriatum sinister (CTS). Methods: Thirty-two consecutive patients who underwent surgical repair of CTS from 1993 through 2020 were included in this study. The morphological characteristics, clinical features, and surgical outcomes were described and analyzed. Results: The median age and body weight at operation were 9 months (interquartile range [IQR], 3-238 months) and 7.5 kg (IQR, 5.8-49.6 kg), respectively. There were 16 males (50%). According to the modified Lucas classification, type IA (classical CTS) was most common (n=20, 62.5%). Atrial septal defect was associated in 22 patients (68.8%) and anomalous pulmonary venous return in 8 patients (25%). Pulmonary hypertension was preoperatively suspected with a high probability in 18 patients (56.3%). There was 1 early death (3.1%) after emergent membrane excision and hybrid palliation in a high-risk hypoplastic left heart syndrome patient. There were no late deaths. The overall survival rate was 96.9% at 15 years post-repair. No early survivors required reoperation during follow-up. Most survivors (31 of 32 patients, 96.9%) were in New York Heart Association functional class I at a median follow-up of 74 months (IQR, 39-195 months). At the latest echocardiography performed at a median of 42 months (IQR, 6-112 months) after repair, no residual lesion was observed except in 1 patient who had moderate pulmonary hypertension (mean pulmonary arterial pressure of 36 mm Hg). Conclusion: Surgical repair of cor triatriatum could be performed safely and effectively with an extremely low risk of recurrence.

Deep Learning-Based Neural Distinguisher for PIPO 64/128 (PIPO 64/128에 대한 딥러닝 기반의 신경망 구별자)

  • Differential cryptanalysis is one of the analysis techniques for block ciphers, and uses the property that the output difference with respect to the input difference exists with a high probability. If random data and differential data can be distinguished, data complexity for differential cryptanalysis can be reduced. For this, many studies on deep learning-based neural distinguisher have been conducted. In this paper, a deep learning-based neural distinguisher for PIPO 64/128 is proposed. As a result of experiments with various input differences, the 3-round neural distinguisher for the differential characteristics for 0, 1, 3, and 5-rounds achieved accuracies of 0.71, 0.64, 0.62, and 0.64, respectively. This work allows distinguishing attacks for up to 8 rounds when used with the classical distinguisher. Therefore, scalability was achieved by finding a distinguisher that could handle the differential of each round. To improve performance, we plan to apply various neural network structures to construct an optimal neural network, and implement a neural distinguisher that can use related key differential or process multiple input differences simultaneously.

Fantasy and educational meaning of Sukhyangjeon - A relationship between notice of hardships and fantasy (<숙향전>의 환상성과 교육적 의의 -'고난의 예고'와 환상의 관계를 중심으로-)

  • This study aimed to investigate the narrative strategy and meaning of fantasy in classic novels and to derive the educational meaning from the fantasy of Sukhyangjeon. This study selected Sukhyangjeon because is considered a suitable literary text that embodies characteristics of fantasy inherent in classical novels through its successful portrayal of the fantasy genre and its high popularity during its time. Specifically, this study observed that the "notice of hardships" which repeatedly appears in the narration of Sukhyangjeon reinforces the fantasy of the novel as it serves as an advance notice of intervention from heaven. Therefore, this study investigated the relationship between the notice of hardships and fantasy by focusing on Sukhyang's life. The way in which the "notice of hardships" is a form of illusion realized it evident in the plot when heaven saves Sukhyang from her hardship even though it was heaven that had granted her those forms of hardship. Firstly, the "notice from heaven" constitutes the macro structure of Sukhyangjeon. Through it, readers realize the enormous power of heaven by seeing how Sukhyang's life has been realized in accordance with heaven's notice with that, it evokes a sense of respect to heaven. In addition, heaven saves Sukhyang from different forms of danger. It enhances a miraculous feeling, which the omnipotent power of heaven shows, against the innocent appearance of Sukhyang during her times of danger. Meanwhile, when heaven notifies Sukhyang and the surrounding people of their fate and subsequently realizes it through dreams, this act creates a mysterious atmosphere and improves the probability of the narrative. If so, the narrative meaning in reinforcing the fantasy of the novel by the use of "notice of hardships" could be revealed through Sukhyang's real life. First, the hardship in which Sukhyang has gone through is so realistic and detailed that the readers' feelings of empathy are evoked with the fear of the coming hardship, wailing together, and trying to resolve the inner anxiety through Sukhyang's happiness. Second, the heavenly beings who are touched by the good behaviors of Sukhyang save her from the dangers of death. This creates the belief in readers that heaven intervenes for the good people. Third, the active attitude that Sukhyang and Leesun show in the process of marriage helps them overcome their earthly hardship and preserve their relationship in heaven. This gives readers hope that they could go to a "higher life" after going through suffering. This fantasy of Sukhyangjeon helps readers overcome their anxieties of reality through fantasy and recognizes the importance of relationships to enhance a sense of unity and solidarity with others. Because of these elements, it is expected that the fantasy of Sukhyangjeon will have a meaningful value to modern readers.

  • In the benefits of ITS, there are intangible gains from real-time traffic information as well as classical gains such as travel time saving. These intangible gains are difficult to be estimated by existing transportation investment appraisal commonly used in SOC investment. The major reason is not because of the absence of methodology but because of the absence of generalized values of particular benefits from real time traffic information. This research explores the value of real-time traffic information on VMS that is the most representative of ITS services, by using CVM with Double Bounded Dichotomous Choice Question. Willingness-To-Pay (WTP) functions of drivers are built with survival functions using various types of probability distribution functions such as Exponential, Log-logistic, and Weibull functions. The results reveal that Log-logistic distribution is the most appropriate distribution model to estimate WTP, and the estimated coefficients are stable through LR (Likelihood Ratio) test. For the further study, it is recommended to perform statistical tests of temporal and spatial transferability that is not examined in this research due to the lack of data.

Bayesian Cognizance of RFID Tags (Bayes 풍의 RFID Tag 인식)

  • In an RFID network consisting of a single reader and many tags, a framed and slotted ALOHA, which provides a number of slots for the tags to respond, was introduced for arbitrating a collision among tags' responses. In a framed and slotted ALOHA, the number of slots in each frame should be optimized to attain the maximal efficiency in tag cognizance. While such an optimization necessitates the knowledge about the number of tags, the reader hardly knows it. In this paper, we propose a tag cognizance scheme based on framed and slotted ALOHA, which is characterized by directly taking a Bayes action on the number of slots without estimating the number of tags separately. Specifically, a Bayes action is yielded by solving a decision problem which incorporates the prior distribution the number of tags, the observation on the number of slots in which no tag responds and the loss function reflecting the cognizance rate. Also, a Bayes action in each frame is supported by an evolution of prior distribution for the number of tags. From the simulation results, we observe that the pair of evolving prior distribution and Bayes action forms a robust scheme which attains a certain level of cognizance rate in spite of a high discrepancy between the Due and initially believed numbers of tags. Also, the proposed scheme is confirmed to be able to achieve higher cognizance completion probability than a scheme using classical estimate of the number of tags separately.

A Study on the Change of Energy Governance in Korea (에너지정책 거버넌스의 변화에 관한 고찰)

  • Korea's energy sector was one of policy sectors that exhibited the classical bureaucratic governance of an administrative state. Under the regime, government monopolized the policy-making process and controled the market and the civil society. It not only provided energy goods and services directly through public enterprises but also dominated the market activities through public regulations. However, during 1993~2002, stringent reformation efforts were made to transform the governance regime from the past bureaucratic model to the market model, by way of privatization of public enterprises and deregulation. The ideology behind the reformation based on the shared recognition that the market and spontaneous order thereof is the better apparatus than the government and artificial order thereof in solving social problems mote efficiently. From the year of 2003, another round of reformation efforts have been promoted to introduce the participatory governance model, through institutionalization of channels for the wider participation of civil society into the energy policy-making process. This reformation efforts respond to; first, the increasing criticism from the civil society on the closedness of energy policy process and the higher probability of policy failures thereof, and second, the recognition that the self-organizing nature of an open policy process is the better mechanism for evolutionary problem-solving.
