  • The ideal of middle class British masculinity and the representative of the new Victorian respectability, the ″gentleman″ was difficult to define amidst the class mobility and social change of the nineteenth century. Was the gentleman to be identified by class and by money\ulcorner By behavior and clothing\ulcorner By religion and morality\ulcorner This essay focuses on the problem of the ″gentleman″ as it was debated in the Victorian era and as it was reflected in the biography and work of the mid-nineteenth century's most important English writer, Charles Dickens. I examine the critical debate surrounding the Victorian idea of the ″gentleman″ by comparing the arguments of Shirley Robin Letwin's The Gentleman in Trollope(1982) and Robin Gilmour's The Idea of the Gentleman in the Victorian Novel(1981). Letwin views the ″gentleman″ as largely transcending class structure, while Gilmour's more historically-conscious view locates the gentleman as emerging out of, and even enabling, the class negotiations of this period. Against the backdrop of such debates, I discuss Charles Dickens's struggles with the idea of the gentleman in theory and in practice. In his novels, especially his semi-autobiographical bildungsromane about the growth and development of boys into adulthood, Dickens prominently engages with the identity and definition of the gentleman. As I demonstrate in this essay, this interest originated from Dickens's own childhood trauma and his subsequent drive to attain gentility, a necessity complicated by the vicissitudes of his personal and professional life.

  • Unlike desktop systems, embedded systems usually meet a strict restriction on using memory. It is required to allocate several class files on memory to run a Java program. A Java class file contains such data including a constant pool, class overview, fields information, and methods information. Some of them are used merely for a debugging purpose, others for a program execution. This paper analyzes the internal structure, or format of the class files used for embedded Java systems. We also investigate how much memory will be necessary for each part of the class files when the files are allocated in memory. The experiment was performed on the simpleRTJ, an open-source commercial embedded Java system.

  • A level set tree provides a useful representation of a multidimensional density function. Visualizing the data structure as a tree offers many advantages for data analysis and clustering. In this paper, we present a level set tree estimation algorithm for use with a set of data points. The proposed algorithm creates a level set tree from a family of level sets estimated over a whole range of levels from zero to infinity. Instead of estimating density function then thresholding, we directly estimate the density level sets using one-class support vector machines (OC-SVMs). The level set estimation is facilitated by the OC-SVM solution path algorithm. We demonstrate the proposed level set tree algorithm on benchmark data sets.

  • The Java language is rapidly being adopted in the Internet. The distributed applications and their application range are being expanded beyond just a programing language and developed Into software applications. A variety of researches are going on with regard to the Java Virtual Machine runtime environment and methods of analyzing the Java class files and utilizing the information for applications. A class file is a converted file that is executable by the Java virtual machine. Analysis on the class file structure and the runtime processes will be convenient in arranging the decompilers and debugging the source programs. This paper is about the runtime process analyzer that presents the runtime processes, including class files, more visually. The content of a class file will be easily accessed and expressed as in a graphic user interface. The information in the class file displayed is divided into Constant_Pool, Class_file, Interface, Field, Method and Attribute with information on method area, operand stack and local variables expressed visually.

  • The importance of the creative class has been emphasized as the industrial structure changes. However, there are only a few studies on gender wage difference in the creative class. The purpose of this study is to analyze the various factors influencing the gender wage gap in the creative class by using labor panel data. The results of this study are as follows: First, it was found that the wage of the male creative class is higher than the wage of the female creative class. Second, there were different factors affecting wages depending on the gender of the creative class. Third, female workers in the creative class suffer wage discrimination due to differences, but a larger part is due to gender discrimination. Fourth, compared to the non-creative classes, the gender wage gap of the creative classes was small. The gender gap caused by discrimination was the highest among the younger generation.

  • This study aims to investigate the role and function of costume in the ancient society by analyzing the jade decorations, 'Gui', 'Bi', and 'Hwang,' recorded in "Zhouli". The method of study consisted of researching the record book "Zhouli" and comparing the antiquities with the images of the jades. Firstly, the jade decorations were different depending on class. The class system in Zhou dynasty was made up of 6 grades - emperor, duke, marquis, count, viscount, and baron. The jade decorations used by people in these grades were called 'Gui', 'Bi', and 'Hwang'. Secondly, this study grasped the system of 'Gui', 'Bi', and 'Hwang.' It identified 7 types of duties by matching the decorations on the jade to specific institutions. 'Gui', 'Bi', and 'Hwang' played a huge role in forming and maintaining to order and system during the chaotic Zhou dynasty. In addition, it became an essential part of understanding status, society, and political structure within a family power structure.

  • Owing to pandemic (COVID-19), the traditional face-to-face education method has been changed to the non-face-to-face real-time online education methods. Using a real time-based video conference system, synchronous education can be adopted by face-to-face class easily. Specially, it is very important to minimize the difference in learning effects between face-to-face and non-face-to-face in Entrepreneurship education. In this study, in order to derive the factors that affect the satisfaction of learners in synchronous online education, authors collected data from learners taking a synchronous entrepreneurship course. Through previous research, learned the reality of education and the composition of lessons. Spatiotemporal effectiveness, mentor ability, and educational environment influence learning satisfaction. PLS-SEM results revealed that it was confirmed that only spatiotemporal effects affect learner satisfaction. However, the education environment (fluent operation and convenience of function use of real-time based online conference system) effect teaching presence, class structure, and spatiotemporal effects. Through this research, we hope to provide theoretical and practical support for developing effective teacher activities, proper lesson structure, convenient function of the conference system, and learner-centered online learning environment when developing synchronous online classes.

  • The synthesis and catalytic application of a new class of a new class of planar chiral ferrocenes, 1,2-ferrocenediylazaphosphinines (1 and 2) are described. They are powerful ligands for the copper(I)-catalyzed asymmetric cyclopropanation of a range of alkenes with diazo esters to exhibit an exceptionally high degree of diastereoselectivity(~100% de) in favor of trans isomers, regardless the structure of the olefins and the diazo compounds. Comparative studies between 1 and 2 reveal that the former works better in terms of diastereocontrol. In contrast, however, enantioselectivity is low with both 1 and 2 as a whole although, in certain cases with a proper combination of the olefin and the diazo ester, high optical yields (up to 100% ee) can be achieved. Other reaction parameters such as the reaction temperature and the structure of the ligand do exhibit some influence, although infinitestimal, on both chemical and optical yields.

  • This study typified the rural centers with myeon locations in Hwasun-gun which showed comprehensive and various class types through settlement class structure analysis. It is also for establishing the awareness of strengthening functions and facilities of the centers and the directions of strengthening it. Subjects of the study could be classified into three types including base type (Neungju-myeon), general type (Nam-myeon) and decline type (Dongbok-myeon) through the analysis of settlement class structure. Neungju-myeon location as the base type could function as the myeon location by itself and tended to serve education, health and welfare functions through the strengthening of central living functions. Nam-myeon location as the general type required sports facilities management based on the vicinity and accessibility to the senior's welfare functions. Dongbok-myeon location as the decline type required the accessibility to public health facilities and the security of vicinity to the facilities because of its high population of the aged.
