협동학습이 간호학생의 학습성과와 수업경험의 질에 미치는 효과 (Effectiveness of Cooperative Learning on Nursing Students' Performance and Experience)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effectiveness of the JigsawⅣ cooperative learning in a facilitative communication class of nursing students. Achievement, communication skill, self-directed learning and experience during the class were measured. Method: This study was a pretest and posttest design with two subject groups. 43 students were in experimental (JigsawⅣ) group and 47 ones were in control (general small discussion) group. Classes were conducted over a 6-week period. The collected data was analyzed by the SPSS 12.0 program. Result: After taking part in the educational program, the experimental group had significantly more improvement in communication skill (F=6.81, p=.002) and self-directed learning (F=11.81, p=.000). In addition, the experimental group showed significantly higher scores for concentration in the class (t=2.26, p=.27), positive emotional state (t=3.01, p=.003) and active participation (t=2.78, p=.007) compared to the control group. However, the achievement between the two groups was not significantly different (F=3.29, p=.073). Conclusion: The findings of this study show that JigsawⅣ cooperative learning has positive effects in improvement of communication skill and self-directed learning. Also, students were excited and interested in the class during cooperative learning. Based on these findings, the author suggests developing additional educational programs focusing on nursing students.

중산층 이상 가족이 인식하는 치매노인 그룹흠의 장점과 국내 도입의 문제점 (Merits of this Group Homes far the Elderly with Dementia Recognized by Middle and Upper Class Families, and Potential Obstacles to its Introduction in Korea)

  • middle and upper class families, and examine obstacles to their introduction in Korea. Since a few large-scale facilities for the elderly with dementia have been provided for only low-income families free of charge, the necessity of group homes for middle and upper class families willing to pay for such services has become an issue recently in order to lessen the burden on families, as well as to promote the well-being of the dementia victims themselves. The survey was conducted by questionnaires collected from 577 respondents from middle and upper class families. The results of the survey were as follows: The merits of the group homes were 1)decreasing loneliness of the elderly, 2)providing active and stimulating environments allowing for participation everyday life activities, and 3)lessening the emotional and physical burden on the caring families. Potential obstacles to its introduction in Korea were 1)the difficulty of finding sites to build the group home because of the negative perception of people with disabilities and a NIMBY(Not In My Back Yard) reaction to the construction of it and 2)the economic burden on the caring family. Surprisingly, the guilt factor associated with sending the parents into group homes was not considered as a big obstacle. Referring to results of this study, it is asserted that group homes for the elderly with dementia would be embraced throughout the country if Koreans could have the chance to understand what group homes are.

이산화탄소의 성질 실험 장치 개선 방안 탐색 (A Study about Improvement of Experimentation on Carbon Dioxide Properties)

  • One of the problems with testing for the presence of $CO_2$ is that the results are not visible. In order to over-come this weak point, a new testing method was developed with BTB indicator equipment, that made the gas visible. After that, the experiment was performed and tested the effects of the new visible equipment. The visible equipment could be adapted to regular class use successfully. Also, it was effective in that it reduced waste of gas, minimized danger potential through use of $CO_2$ canisters and candle-sticks, and also increased knowledge about indicators. The new experimental method and equipment affected the students' interest. It is possible that the students' positive participation was due to their interest in the new apparatus and application of the visual senses. The new system was tested fer its effects on teaching content and helping to produce sustained memory of the content. There were no significant differences between the groups in terms of content learning on initial content memory. However, when students in both groups were tested 4 months later, the visual experiment group sustained memory performance, while the other group showed a significant decrease. Generally, boys score higher than girls in terms of interest and participation in experimental activities. In this case, however, there were no difference between groups. It may have been due to introduction of new equipment and different methods from the textbooks. So, this could increase participation in science using various experiments.

노인일자리사업 참여가 사회적 자본 변화에 미치는 영향 연구 (A Study on the Effects to the Change of Social Capital from Participation in Elderly Employment Programs)

  • 본 연구는 노인일자리사업이 노인의 사회적 자본 변화에 어떠한 영향력을 미치는지 규명하여 노인일자리사업의 효과성을 사회적 자본 변화를 통해 평가하고자 하였다. 노인일자리사업에 참여한 노인 중 사회적 자본이 변화하였을 때, 사회적 자본의 변화를 유형별로 나누어 참여노인의 인구사회학적 특성과 노인일자리사업 특성을 변화유형별로 비교해 보았다. 이는 노인일자리사업 참여가 노인 삶을 변화시키는데 직 간접적인 역할을 할 것이라는 실증적 자료를 제공할 수 있다. 노인일자리사업에 참여한 노인 중 사회적 자본이 변화하였을 때, 생활상의 어려움에 있는 노인층에서 사회적 자본 중 신뢰, 관계망, 사회참여가 모두 증가하였고, 노인일자리사업 참여가 생활상의 어려움을 가진 노인층에게 사회적 자본 증가의 효과를 주는 것으로 볼 수 있다. 이들 사회적 자본 중 노인 일자리사업에 참여한 노인은 신뢰가 가장 많이 증가하였다. 특히 생활상의 어려움에 있는 노인층과 생계비를 벌기 위해 참여한 노인층에서 사회적 자본 중 신뢰, 관계망, 사회참여가 모두 증가한 것을 볼 수 있으며, 노인일자리사업이 생활상의 어려움을 가진 노인층에게 사회적 자본 변화의 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 모든 일자리유형에서 사회참여는 상승하였고, 생계를 위해서 참여한 노인층이나 생활상의 어려움이 있는 노인층에서 특히 사회참여가 증가하였다. 짧은 참여기간 동안의 조사로 나타난 결과이기도 하지만, 궁극적으로 노인의 노동참여를 통한 사회참여는 보호적 시장에서 이루어지는 것이 효과적이었다고 볼 수 있다.

자궁경부암 검진 수검률의 불평등 추이 (Trend of Socioeconomic Inequality in Participation in Cervical Cancer Screening among Korean Women)

  • Objectives : While cervical cancer is one of the leading cancers among women worldwide, there are a number of effective early detection tests available. However, the participation rates in cervical cancer screening among Korean women remain low. After the nationwide efforts in 1988 and thereafter to encourage participation in cervical cancer screening, few studies have investigated the effects of socioeconomic inequality on participation in cervical cancer screening. The purpose of this study was to investigate 1) the level of socioeconomic disparities in receiving cervical cancer screening by age group and 2) if there was an improvement in reducing these disparities between 1995 and 2001. Methods : Using data from the Korean National Health Status, Health Behavior and Belief Survey in 1995, the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys from 1998 and 2001 (sample sizes of 2,297, 3,738, and 3,283), age-standardized participation rates were calculated according to education level, equivalized household income, and job status. Odds ratios and the relative inequality index (RII) were also calculated after controlling for age. Results : Women with lower education levels were less likely to attend the screening test, and the disparities by education level were most pronounced among women aged 60 years and older. The RIIs among women 60 years and older were 3.64, 4.46, and 8.64 in 1995, 1998, and 2001, respectively. Higher rates of participation were reported among those in the highest income category, which was more notable among the middle aged women (40s and 50s). An inconsistent trend in the rate of participation in cervical cancer screening by occupational level was found. Conclusions : Indicators of socioeconomic position seem to have varying impacts on the inequalities in the rates of participation in cervical cancer screening according to age group. These results demonstrate the need for more aggressive and age-based interventions and policy programs to eliminate the remaining inequalities.

문제중심학습 기반의 인터넷 윤리 학습 모형 (An Internet Ethics Learning Model based on PBL)

  • 본 논문에서는 문제중심학습(Problem-based Learning)에 기반한 인터넷 윤리 학습 모형을 개발하고 수업에 적용한다. 새로운 학습 모형은 토론과 글쓰기를 통한 학습자 참여 중심의 수업으로 이루어진다. 새로운 학습 모형을 수업에 적용한 후 인터넷 윤리의식의 변화를 조사하고 분석하였다. 연구 결과에 따르면 자율, 존중, 참여, 책임 영역에서 학습자의 인터넷 윤리의식이 향상된 것으로 확인되었다. 특히 자율과 책임 영역이 통계적으로 유의미한 향상이 있는 것으로 확인되었다.

좋은 환경 수업의 관점에서 본 고등학교 환경 수업 학습 상황 분석 (Analysis of Educational Situation in Environment Class at High School with View of Good Environment Class)

  • The purpose of this study is to find the meaning of the good class, and based on this, situation of environmental education in high school is researched. Through those above processes, desirable direction of the environment class is suggested. For this study, we are trying to reflect the characteristics of environmental education on the general good classes, and from this, the meaning of good environment class is known. Moreover, for this study, we choose environment classes from four high schools leading by environment major teacher. From those four classes, we analyzed these things: educational situation of environment class, teachers' interviews. All of these are for analyzing environment class with the view of good environmental class. A well-formed environment class manifests the features of environment education in all aspects of teaching and learning process, including learning objectives, learning materials, procedures, and evaluations. Furthermore, it should be 'student-centered' class in which active interaction among the learners or between the instructor and the students is considered most important. Students are not the passive receiver, but rather, they actively participate in the learning process by reorganizing the knowledge as they experience and become independent learners who are actively involved in the problem-solving process. In this way, we can generate a great deal of students' interest and motivation, which in turn makes the class interesting, enjoyable, full of energy and still effective. If there is the class reflecting the factors of environmental education above good class' ways, it will be the good environment class. In the current situation of environment class, the rate of student's class participation and study activity was low. This tendency is not too different between four groups except students' support to teachers. This result means that learners' will to participate in their classes actively is not high. Moreover, about 46.3% of students did not understand some parts of new knowledge and about the parts, students' solution was 'does nothing' and the rate was also so high. Teachers tried to make their class with considering students' interest, and focusing their learner's real life. However, learners are all general education high school students, so teachers have aversion about making their students heavy activities.

스포츠건강체력 수업 참여에 따른 대학생의 웰니스 건강인식의 변화 (Wellness Health Awareness Change of University Students Following Participation in Sports Physical Fitness Class)

  • 본 연구는 교양체육인 스포츠건강체력 수업에 참여하는 대학생의 웰니스 건강인식의 변화를 확인하기 위하여 D시 소재 대학교에 재학중인 168명을 대상으로 실시하였다. 스포츠건강체력 수업은 대학생의 집중적인 건강체력관리를 위해 1학기동안 진행되었다. 웰니스 건강인식은 한국인의 웰니스설문지(KWLS)를 이용하여 조사하였으며 수집된 자료는 연구목적에 따라 기술통계분석, 신뢰도분석, 이원변량분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과 대학생의 웰니스 건강인식은 성별과 시행(수업실시 전 후)간의 통계적으로 유의한 상호작용효과는 나타나지 않았으나(p>.05) 성별, 시행 각 요인간의 차이는 일부 하위영역에서 유의하게 나타났다(p<.05). 이러한 결과를 토대로 대학생의 웰니스 건강인식의 일부 요인이 스포츠건강체력 수업 전과 후에 변화하는 것을 확인하였다. 따라서 대학생의 웰니스 건강인식의 긍정적인 변화를 위한 해결책으로 각 대학에서 실시하는 다양한 교양체육 외에도 집중적인 건강체력관리를 목적으로 하는 수업을 대학생들에게 제공할 필요가 있는 것으로 사료된다.

Interactive learning in oral and maxillofacial radiology

  • Purpose: The use of electronic tools in teaching is growing rapidly in all fields, and there are many options to choose from. We present one such platform, Learning Catalytics$^{TM}$ (LC) (Pearson, New York, NY, USA), which we utilized in our oral and maxillofacial radiology course for second-year dental students. Materials and Methods: The aim of our study was to assess the correlation between students' performance on course exams and self-assessment LC quizzes. The performance of 354 predoctoral dental students from 2 consecutive classes on the course exams and LC quizzes was assessed to identify correlations using the Spearman rank correlation test. The first class was given in-class LC quizzes that were graded for accuracy. The second class was given out-of-class quizzes that were treated as online self-assessment exercises. The grading in the self-assessment exercises was for participation only and not accuracy. All quizzes were scheduled 1-2 weeks before the course examinations. Results: A positive but weak correlation was found between the overall quiz scores and exam scores when the two classes were combined (P<0.0001). A positive but weak correlation was likewise found between students' performance on exams and on in-class LC quizzes (class of 2016) (P<0.0001) as well as on exams and online LC quizzes (class of 2017) (P<0.0001). Conclusion: It is not just the introduction of technological tools that impacts learning, but also their use in enabling an interactive learning environment. The LC platform provides an excellent technological tool for enhancing learning by improving bidirectional communication in a learning environment.

Problem-Based Learning을 활용한 가족자원경영학 수업모형 개발 및 실시: "여가문화와 생활관리" 수업사례를 중심으로 (Model Development and Implementation of Class Design for Family and Resource Management Using Problem-Based Learning: Focusing on Case Study of "Leisure Culture and Life Management" Class)

  • The purpose of this study is to present a practical class design model that applies the problem-based learning (PBL) method to the subject of home economics. To begin with, a specific class model example was developed by conducting thorough document research and expert consulting. Two modules, named "Click! Global Leisure Environment" and "Happy Leisure Product Launching" were presented as the PBL questions. The case study focused upon in this research is an elective course called "Leisure Culture and Life Management". The 21 students enrolled in this course were considered in this study. Two teaching methods, namely a face-to-face teaching method and a web-based system "Snowboard" teaching method, were used to run the class. The research results are as follows: first, theoretical research and program development and demonstration were practiced with five different age groups: childhood, adolescence, university student, middle age, and senescence. Then, selfevaluation, peer evaluation, and group evaluation were conducted to motivate the students. Finally, a class evaluation was conducted by questioning the lecturer, who ranked well, scoring higher than or equal to 4.0 points out of 5.0 on all the questions. Through the PBL method, students showed an improved study attitude with more proactive participation in the class, they strengthened their communication skills and created a synergy with their team members. This study has significant meaning because it is the first research to apply the PBL method to home economics. Therefore, we expect other curricula to apply PBL and fully utilize this teaching method as well in the future.
