경사도가 다른 수중 삼각형상구조물 주위의 유동특성 (Flow Characteristics around Underwater Triangular Structure with Different Inclination)

  • 본 연구에서는 수중 삼각형상구조물의 경사도와 레이놀즈 수 변화에 따른 구조물 주위의 유동특성을 분석하였다. 모델링한 삼각형상구조물 주위의 유동장은 회류수조에서 가시화실험과 입자영상유속계(PIV)를 이용하여 계측하였다. 실험결과 경사각이 $45^{\circ}$인 삼각형상구조물이 레이놀즈 수 $Re=2.9{\times}10^3$에서 구조물 높이의 2.7배까지 상승하는 속도성분이 나타났다. 레이놀즈 수가 일정할 때 경사각이 클수록 구조물 후방에 하강하는 속도성분이 크게 나타났고, y/hs=1.75이상의 영역에서는 경사각과 레이놀즈 수가 구조물 후방의 유동형태에 변화를 주지 않았다.

  • It is known that the temperatures of die, punch, holder and punch pad need to be kept different to get better formability in Mg sheet forming processes. Heating and cooling channels are usually equipped in each tool to assign different temperature. This study focused on the optimal design of the heating and cooling channels for a cross-shaped deep drawing die set. While the die and blankholder were heated to and kept at $250^{\circ}C$ by using heat cartridges, the punch and punch pad were kept at much lower temperature than that of the die and blankholder by water circulating through cooling channels. All the approaches were done by numerical analyses, aiming to maximize the cup height and to minimize the punch corner radius without any failure.

  • Injection of microbubbles and/or polymer solution has been known to be a promising method for the reduction of frictional drag of water-borne vehicles. Naval Architects have been interested in friction drag reduction technology, since the friction drag of a commercial ship can be over $70{\%}$ of total resistance. The reduction of friction drag is also important for autonomous underwater vehicles and naval submarines to improve their durability and survivability In this study two sets of experiments were carried out for the friction drag reduction of 2-D channel wall and flat plate in the circulating water channels in Chungnam National University. Preliminary results from the experiments are presented and discussed.

Tidal Current Power Generation by a Darrieus Type Water Turbine at the Side of a Bridge Pier

  • There are several advantages to make use of a bridge pier for the tidal power generation. Current velocity increases near the pier, therefore the tidal power generation becomes more efficient because the power is proportional to the cubic of the current velocity. The pier is convenient for access and maintenance of the hydraulic turbine and the power unit. The project is now underway at the Ikitsuki Bridge in Tatsuno-Seto Strait of Nasasaki Prefecture, where the tidal current was measured by the bottom mount ADCP for almost one year. Model experiments for a Darrieus water turbine with two and three straight blades were carried out in the circulating water channel, in which the power coefficients of the turbine were obtained as a function of blade section and the attaching angle of a blade to the rotor. Those experimental results are discussed to obtain an optimum Darrieus turbine for tidal power generation.

구(球) 주위 난류유동의 정량적 가시화 (Flow Visualization of Turbulent Flow around a Sphere)

  • The turbulent flow around a sphere was investigated in a streamwise meridian plane using two experimental techniques: smoke-wire flow visualization in wind tunnel at Re=5,300 and PIV measurements in a circulating water channel at Re=7,400. The smoke-wire visualization shows flow separation points near an azimuthal angle of $90^{\circ}$, recirculating flow, transition from laminar to turbulent shear layer, evolving vortex roll-up and fully turbulent eddies in the sphere wake. In addition, the mean flow pattern extracted by particle tracing method in water tunnel at Re= 14,500 reveals two distinct comparable toroidal(not closed) vortices in the recirculation region. The mean velocity field measured using a PIV technique demonstrates the detailed wake configuration of close symmetric recirculation and near-wake configuration with two toroidal vortices, reversed velocity zone and vorticity contours.

  • This paper describes the development of catamaran type powerboat applicable to leisure and transportation in the sea. Recently, the increasing prosperity of the leisure population has resulted in an increased popularity and need for recreational equipment such as water leisure powerboat. To satisfy the popularity and the need, catamaran type powerboat is developed applicable to leisure and simultaneously, as a means of tranportation for a short distance in the sea through the design using 3-Dimensional modeling method and experiments in circulating wate channel.

몰수형 피치댐핑포일 주위 유동의 PIV 해석 (PIV Analysis of Flow around a Submerged Pitch Damping Foil)

  • An experimental study is carried out to investigate the near-wake characteristics of a NACA 0018 foil with a flat plate. Two-frame grey-level cross correlation PIV method is used to measure the local flow characteristic around a pitch damping foil to control the vertical motion of high speed crafts in a circulating water channel. The analysis also includes angles of attack 10 and 20 degrees respectively. Reynolds number $Re{\fallingdotseq}3.5{\times}10^4$ based on the chord length(C=100mm) of NACA0018 has been applied during the whole experiments. The distance between the foil and the flat plate is D/C=0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 respectively. The channel effect according as the distance between the foil and the flat plate has a close relation with the velocity distributions around the foil. In the wake of 20-degree of attack, the complex turbulent flow and a thick boundary layer are formed due to the processes of vortex generation and dissipation.

유한요소법을 이용한 개수로단면급확대부의 순환현상해석 (Finite Element Analysis for Circulation Phenomena in Sudden Expansion of Open Channel)

  • 수심에 대하여 평균을 취한 2차원 연속방정식 및 운동방정식에 Galerkin형 유한요소법이 적용되어 개수로 단면급확대부의 순환현상을 해석하였다. 모형의 타당성실험이행하여진 단순한 수로에서의 파동실험결과, 본 모형이 L2오차 0.5% 이내에서 만족스럽게 수렴학 있으며, 댐파괴시 수면곡선해석에서도 수치해와 정확도가 거의 일치하는매우 양호한 결과가 도출되어 모형의 타당성 및 유용성이 제시된다. 순환흐름 해석시 초기조건으로 주수로부의 흐름을 정의하는 새로운 조건이 도입되어 이용되었고, 측벽경계조건으로는 Neumann 조건 이외에 slip 조건을 취하여 실험한 결과 slip 조건이 no-slip 조건일 때의 강한 경계층을 배제하는 타당한 측별경계조건으로 판단된다. 본 모형을 개수로단면급확대부에 적용한 결과 하상마찰 및 유효전단에 기인된 난류의 영향은 크지 않은 반면 이송가속도는 순환흐름에 지대한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

A Study on the Propulsion Performance of KCS in Still Water and Regular Wave

  • Since most merchant vessels are mainly influenced by the added resistance in an actual sea, they could be navigated more efficiently if this added resistance could be precisely predicted and then effectively reduced. In this paper, we have computed the effective horsepower based on the resistance performance in still water and then calculated the added resistance in regular wave in order to estimate a ship's propulsion performance on a voyage. Firstly, we have performed experiments using a model of KCS in a circulating water channel to estimate the flow characteristics around a container ship and the ship's resistance in still water. Then we have calculated the motion response function in regular wave as well as the values for the increase in resistance, and evaluated the ship's motion performance in waves according to the calculated response function. It was found that the resistance in waves increased because the ship's motion response value became larger as the ship's speed increased in the case of head sea. The effect of the added resistance could be reduced by maneuvering the ship to the encounter angle of $120^{\circ}$ in areas of long wavelengths and to head sea in areas of short wavelengths.

  • The effects of free surface on wake behind a rotating propeller were investigated experimentally in a circulating water channel with the variation of water depth. Instantaneous velocity fields were measured using two-frame PIV technique at tow different blade phases and ensemble-averaged to investigate the phase-averaged flow structure in the wake region. For an isolated propeller, the flow behind the propeller is influenced by the propeller rotation and the free surface. The phase-averaged mean velocity fields show that the potential wake and the viscous wake are formed by the boundary layers developed on the blade surfaces. The interaction between the tip vortices and the slipstream causes the oscillating trajectory of tip vortices. Tip vortices are generated periodically and the slipstream contracts in the near-wake region. The presence of free surface affects the wake structure largely, when the water depth is less than 0.6D. The free surface modifies the vortex structure, especially the tip and trailing vortices and flow structure in slipstreams of the propeller wake behind X/D = 0.3.
