  • Analogous problem for a gear dynamics where helical gears excite logitudinal forces in the shaft is studied. These shaft forces excite the supporting gear housing through bearing, causing structural vibration. In this study, shaft is modeled as a rod, and bearing is modeled by a massless spring. A simple model for gear housing is a clamped circular plate. To model this force transmission, the transfer functions from the shaft to a clamped circular plate are analytically derived by using the spectral method and four-pole parameter. Finally, radiated noise is computed, using the acoustic relations due to plate surface vibration.

  • In this paper, we work with steel circular tubes and propose analysis model which can consider local buckling that it has an effect on failure of steel structures and induce the relation between loading and deformation. First of all, in respect to axial symmetry local buckling, which is simplest case, elasto-plastic behavior acting only axial loads is object Therefore, it suggests analysis model for axial symmetry local buckling. And that is explainable the process from increasing internal force to decreasing passing maximum internal force. Besides, we induce the relation between the axial force and axial deformation.

  • The objective of the present study is to investigate the characteristics of pressure wave propagation of viscous fluid flow in a circular pipe line. The goal of this study is to select the best frequency of each control factor of a circular pipe. We intend to approach a formalized mathematical model by a very exact and reasonable polynomial for fluid transmission lines. and we computed this mathematical model by computer. The results show that the oil viscosity decreased as the length of the circular pipe increases. and The energy of pressure wave propagation decreased as the pipe diameter decreases. The factor is that density of oil was changed resonant frequency. It has been found the viscosity characteristics is changed largely by length of hydraulic pipe and volume of cavity tank.

  • In order to analyze the effect of a cover layer or radome for an antenna, the moment method is applied to the analysis of the circular microstrip patch antenna with dielectric superstrate fed by coaxial probe. The probe feed is modeled as a attachment mode method which can solve more exact analysis. In case of a ideal probe feed modeling, the probe self-impedance as well as the rapidly-varying patch current at the vicinity of the feed point was neglected. But a rigorous probe feed model which overcomes these deficiencies are developed, and used in the analysis of isolated circular patches. Measurements were performed to validate the numerical results. These are good agreement with each other.

  • An experimental investigation has been made for flow in a circular cylinder with a rotating bottom disk. Flow system considered in this paper is a characteristic model of interior flows of an electric washing machine. Flows in a tub of an electric washing machine are driven by a rotating bottom disk called a pulsator. The simple and characteristic model was composed of a circular cylinder with impulsively rotating endwall disk and a viscous fluid in it. Rotational motion of the pulsator is periodic and alternative in rotation direction. The flow field in the interior region is governed by a horizontal boundary layer forms on the impulsively rotating disk. Experimental approach was accomplished by adopting an image processing technique for velocity measurements. Comprehensive details of the flow structure are presented. Also a meridional circulation is obtained by tracking image particles suspended in the fluid. Flow structure and data are successfully procured for this complex rotating flow field.

  • This paper intends to provide an analytic vibrational model of non-circular cutting by a lathe and to investigate its stability criteria. A single degree-of-freedon model based on the orthogonal cutting theory has the characteristics of parametric excitation due to the nonlinear cutting force that changes periodically its direction as well as its magnitude. The Floquet theory has been applied to investigate the stability of the linearized system and the stability diagrams have been obtained with respect to the ovality, the cut velocity and the cut depth. Also nonlinear analysis has been performed to verify the linear analysis and compare the results with those from circular cutting. Results show that a critical cut depth is decreased as the ovality is increased while a critical cut velocity is increased as the ovality is increased. Also, a good agreement in critical conditions has been observed between the linear and nonlinear analyses for the ovality less than 2%. Accordingly, the linear analysis can be said to be applicable for most practical oval cuttings whose ovality are much less than 2%.

  • The present study used the hydrodynamic numerical model, with the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations (RANS) as its governing equations, to analyze overflow characteristics such as the discharge coefficient of circular-crested weir and the flow velocity and pressure distribution of weir crest. The simulation results well reproduced the overflow characteristics of the overfall of circular-crested weir both qualitatively and quantitatively. As for the discharge coefficient, rational results were yielded by the discharge coefficient equation proposed by Hager(1985) in the $H_1/R_b<0.58$ and by the discharge coefficient equation proposed by Samani and Bagheri(2014) in the $H_1/R_b>0.58$, respectively. Because most existing discharge coefficient equations were developed by disregarding the effects of the approach velocity, when they are applied, it is necessary to evaluate the effects of the approach velocity on the overflow head beforehand.

  • An experimental investigation has been conducted to determine the effectiveness of base shield plates in reducing the drag of a rough circular cylinder in a cross flow at Reynolds numbers in the range $3{\times}10^4{\leq}Re{\leq}10.5{\times}10^4$. Three model configurations were investigated and compared: a plane cylinder (PC), a cylinder with a splitter plate (MC1) and a cylinder fitted with base shield plates (MC2). Each configuration was studied in the sub and supercritical flow regimes. The chord of the plates, L, ranged from 0.22 to 1.50D and the cavity width, G, between the plates was in the range from 0 to 0.93D. It is recognized that base shield plates can be employed more effectively than splitter plates to reduce the aerodynamic drag of circular cylinders in both the sub- and supercritical flow regimes. For subcritical flow regime, one can get 53% and 24% drag reductions for the MC2 and MC1 models with L/D=1.0, respectively, compared with the PC model. For supercritical flow regime however, the corresponding drag reductions are 38% and 7%.

  • This paper explains how to correctly measure the drag coefficient of a circular cylinder in wind tunnels with large blockage ratios and for the sub-critical to the super-critical flow regimes. When dealing with large blockage ratios, the drag has to be corrected for wall constraints. Different formulations for correcting blockage effect are compared for each flow regime based on drag measurements of smooth circular cylinders performed in a wind tunnel for three different blockage ratios. None of the correction model known in the literature is valid for all the flow regimes. To optimize the correction and reduce the scatter of the results, different correction models should be combined depending on the flow regime. In the sub-critical regime, the best results are obtained using Allen and Vincenti's formula or Maskell's theory with ${\varepsilon}$=0.96. In the super-critical regime, one should prefer using Glauert's formula with G=0.6 or the model of Modi and El-Sherbiny. The change in the formulations appears at the flow transition with a variation of the wake pattern when passing from sub-critical to super-critical flow regimes. This parameter being not considered in the known blockage corrections, these theories are not valid for all the flow regimes.
