Purpose : To confirm the accuracy of the radiation dose at the isocenter by the standard linear accelerator-based stereotactic radiosurgery technique which was developed at Seoul National University Hospital. Materials and Methods : Radiation dosimetry was undertaken during standard 5-arc radiosurgery using 6 MV X-ray beam from CL2100C linac. The treatment head was attached with circular tertiary collimators of 10 and 20 mm diameter. We measured the absorbed dose at the isocenter of a multi-purpose phantom using two kinds of detector : a 0.125 co ionization chamber and a silicon diode detector. Results : The dose differences at each arc plane between the planned dose and the measured dose at the isocenter raged from $-0.73\%\;to\;-2.69\%$ with the 0.125 cc ion chamber, and from $-1.29\%\;to\;-2.91\%$ with the diode detector during radiosurgery with the tertiary collimator of 20 mm diameter. Those with the 10-mm tertiary collimator ranged from $-2.39\%\;to\;-4.25\%$ with the diode. Conclusion : The dose accuracy at the isocenter was ${\pm}3\%$. Therefore, further efforts such ws modification in processing of the archived image through DICOM3.0 format are required to lessen the dose difference.

An important problem in radiosurgery is the utilization of the proper beam parameters, to which dose shape is sensitive. Streotactic radiosurgery techniques for a linear accelerator typically, use circular radiation fields with multiple arcs to produce an spherical radiation distribution. Target volumes are irregular in shape for a certain case, and spherical distributions can irradiate normal tissues to high dose as well as the target region. The current improvement to dose distribution utilizes treating multiple isocenters or weighting various arcs to change treatment volume shape. in this paper another promising study relies upon dynamically shaping the treatment beam to fit the beam's eye view of the target. This conformal irradiation technique was evaluated by means of visual three dimensional dose distribution, dose volume histograms to the target volume and surrounding normal brain. It is shown that using even less arcs than multiple isocenter irradiation technique, the conformal therapy yields comparable dose gradients and superior homogeneity of dose within the target volume.
In this paper the failure behavior of the reinforced earth retaining wall structures according to the deformed types of the face was studied by model test using carbon rods. In model test the behavior of the face for the model of the reinforced earth wall was divided into three cases : the displacement of the top part(case 1), the lateral displacement(case 2) and the displacement of the lower part (case 3). The photographic method was applied to examine the failure line of the deformed wall with the naked eye. The failure line shows a parabolic shape for case 1, a large circular arc for case 2 and a logarithmic spiral for case 3 in the experimental results. The design failure line for the coherent gravity structure hypothesis was most similar to the failure line for the case of the lower part displacement.

The convergence characteristics of preconditioned Euler equations were studied. A perturbation analysis was conducted to understand the behavior of the preconditioned Euler equations. Various speed flows in a two-dimensional channel with a 10% circular arc in the middle of the channel were calculated. Roe's FDS scheme was used for spatial discretization and the LU-SGS scheme was used for time integration. It is shown that the convergence characteristics of pressure and velocity were maintained regardless of the Mach numbers but that the convergence characteristics of temperature were strongly related to the Mach number and became worse as the Mach number decreased. The perturbation analysis well explained the trend of the convergence characteristics and showed that the convergence characteristics are strongly related with the behavior o( the Preconditioning matrix.

An optimal control procedure is presented for steering of an unmanned cart which has two motored wheels on its left and right side. Steering, running and stopping are enabled by controlling the motor speed independently. An optimal proportional-plus-integral control is employed to eliminate steady state error which is sustained by a simple proportional control for tracking a circular arc path. A simple and readily-implemented suboptimal control is also examined. The suboptimal control gives comparable performance and therefore provides an effective approach for industrial application of the unmanned cart. Effects of design parameters of unmanned cart such as forward velocity, wheel radius and position of sensor are investigated. It is shown that within the practicable values of the parameters the controlled performance improves rapidly with increase of those parameters then the improvement becomes negligible, which suggests base values over which the parameters should be taken.

A shock wave, being an irreversible process, gives rise to entropy increase. A great deal of effort has been made to control shock wave and boundary layer interaction related to energy losses as well as problems of vibration and noise. In the present study, tests are performed on a roof mounted half circular arc in an indraft type supersonic wind tunnel to evaluate the effects of porosity, length and depth of cavity in passive control of shock wave on the attenuation of shock strength by reviewing the measured static pressures at the porous wall and cavity. Also the flow field is visualized by a Schlieren system. The results show that in the present study the porosity of 8% produced the largest reduction of pressure fluctuations and that for the same porosity, the strength of shock wave decreases with the increasings of the depth and length of cavity.
Free Vibration Analysis using Non-dimensional Dynamic Influence Function (NDIF) is extended to arbitrarily shaped plates including polygonal plates. Since the corners of polygonal plates have indefinite normal directions and additional boundary conditions related to a twisting moment at a corner along with moment and shear force zero conditions, it is not easy to apply the NDIF method to polygonal plates wi th the free boundary condition. Moreover, owing to the fact that the local polar coordinate system, which has been introduced for free plates with smoothly varying edges, cannot be employed for the straight edges of the polygonal plates, a new coordinate system is required for the polygonal plates. These problems are solved by developing the new method of modifying a corner into a circular arc and setting the normal direction at the corner to an average value of normal direct ions of two edges adjacent to the corner. Some case studies for plates with various shapes show that the proposed method gives credible natural frequencies and mode shapes for various polygons that agree well with those by an exact method or FEM (ANSYS).

A numerical analysis based on two-dimensional and three-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations has been carried out for double-circular-arc compressor cascades and the results are compared with available experimental data at various incidence angles. The 2-D and 3-D computational codes based on SIMPLE algorithm adopt pressure weighted interpolation method for non-staggered grid and hybrid scheme for the convertive terms. Turbulence modeling is very important for prediction of cascade flows, which are extremely complex with separation and reattachment by adverse pressure gradient. In this paper k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model with wall function is used to increase efficiency of computation times.
A mathematical model for the analysis of roll gap phenomena in the strip temper rolling process is described. A new approach to solve the roll indentation and diverging problem in modeling of severe temper rolling cases is obtained by adopting the preliminary displacement principle of two contacted rough bodies to describe the friction behavior in the roll gap. The mechanical peculiarities of the temper rolling process, such as a high friction value with high roughness rolls and a non-circular contact arc, low reduction and non-negligible entry and exit elastic zones as well as central preliminary displacement zone etc., are all taken into account. The deformation of work rolls is calculated with the influence function method and an arbitrary contact are shape is permitted. The strip deformation is modeled by the slab method and the entry and exit elastic deformation zones are included. The preliminary displacement principle is used to determine the boundaries and to calculate the friction of the central preliminary displacement zone. The model is calibrated against the production mill data and installed in the setup computer of a temper rolling mill in POSCO. The validity and precision of the model have been proven through a comparison of the measured roll forces and the predicted ones.

A numerical analysis based on two-dimensional and three-dimensional incompressible Wavier-Stokes equations has been carried out for double-circular-arc compressor cascades and the results are compared with available experimental data at various incidence angles. The 2-D and 3-D computational codes based on SIMPLE algorithm adopt pressure weighted interpolation method for non-staggered grid and hybrid scheme for the convective terms. Turbulence modeling is very important for prediction of cascade flows, which are extremely complex with separation and reattachment by adverse pressure gradient. Considering computation times, $\kappa$-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model with wall function is used.
