와 IV등급인 도깨비부채(Rodgersia podophylla A.Gray), 점현호색 (Corydalis maculata B.U.Oh & Y.S.Kim), 솔붓꽃 (Iris ruthenica KerGawl.), 산복사나무 [Prunus davidiana (Carriere) Franch.]

Prescriptions mixed with exterior-relieving herbs is a prescription adding Bojungikgitang, Yijintang, Yimyosan, Yukilsan and Gilgyeongjigaktang. The mixed exterior-relieving herbs were diversely operated according to each prescription or medicines. However, the mixed exterior relieving herbs were mixed for rising yang & tonifying qi(升陽益氣) for the most part. The exterior-relieving herbs mixed with prescriptions had the total 15 kinds, Bupleuri Radix, Cimicifugae Rhizoma among them were mixed with prescriptions for the most part. In addition, two-kind mixed exterior-relieving herbs were utilized in order of Bupleuri Radix Cimicifuga Rhizoma and Bupleuri Radix Cimicifugae Rhizoma Notopterygii Rhizoma Ledebouriellae Radix. Taken together, Wind herbs is applied several purpose, so that it can contribute to treatment and prevention of internal diseases in present-day.

  • Among aging diseases, the most basic problem is a decrease in bone mineral density. Patients with osteoporosis are steadily increasing in the world. This study was investigated to show the relationship between osteoporotic effects and oxidative damage. Water extracts of 15 medicinal plants and ethanol extracts of 14 medicinal plants with known anti-osteoporotic effects, were tested for their radical scavenging activity using DPPH, ABTS, SRSA and FRAP assay. Water extract of Cornus officinalis, Rubus coreanus and ethanol extract of Rubus coreanus, Viscium album var. coloratum, Cimicifuga heracleifolia showed about 15-20 mg/g of total phenolic contents. Water extract of Cornus officinalis, Rubus coreanus and Epimedium koreanum showed high radical scavenging activity. Ethanol extract of Drynaria fortunei, Cornus officinalis, Rubus coreanus, Gentiana scabra and Astragalus membranaceus showed high radical scavenging activity. Water extract of Drynaria fortunei, Cornus officinalis, Nelumbo nucifera, Epimedium koreanum, and Gentiana scabra showed very strong protective effect against oxidative damage to DNA. These results suggest the correlation between anti-osteoporotic effects and antioxidative effects.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the content of sulfur dioxide residues in the medicine prepared from crue drugs. Total 29 pills that contains salvia miltiorrhiza root, anemarrhena rhizome, fritillaria bulb, glehnia root, asparagus tuber, lycium fruit, moutan root bark, cimicifuga rhizome, pinellia tuber, dipsaci radix, codonopsis pilosula root, liriope tuber, achyranthes root, prepared aconite, aurantii fructus immaturus, corydalis tuber, dioscorea rhizome were examined by the modified Monier_Willams method. Sulfur dioxide were detectd in all the tested samples, and were found over MRLs (30 mg/ kg to medicinal herbs) in 8 samples (27.6%). Especilly, "i2" pills contains 132.46 mg/kg sulfur dioxide that is 4 times over than MRLs.

  • Fifteen herbs used in oral medicine were extracted in ethanol and screened for tooth whitening effect, radical scavenging activity, inhibition of inducible nitric oxide synthase activity and anti-bacterial activity on Streptoccocus mutans. The results are as followed: 1. The tooth whitening effect of toothpaste containing 1 $\%$ ethanol extracts of 15 herbs was tested in brushing method using artificially stained HAT tablet and bovine tooth specimens. Toothpaste containing 1$\%$ of Vucia unijuga, Illicium verum, Angelica dahurica and Piper longum extracts showed tooth whitening effects on both HAT tablet and bovine tooth specimens. But the others did not show a considerable activity. 2. The antioxidant activity of ethanol extracts of 15 herbs was tested using the method of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) reactivity. Two ethanol extracts of Cimicifuga heracleifolia and Phyllostachys nigra var. henonis were found to be the most effective on radical scavenging activity. C. heracleifolia and P. nigra var. henonis extracts removed 86$\%$ and 81 $\%$ of DPPH radical at 0.01$\%$, compared with butylated hydroxy toluene as positive control. 3. The inhibition activity of ethanol extracts on nitrate production In RAW264.7 cell stimulated by lipopolysacchride was tested using the Griess reagent. But all extracts did not inhibit nitrate production. 4. The antibacterial activity on Streptoccocus mutans was tested by paper disk method. But no one extract showed any anti - bacterial activity.
