Outdoor lighting has become a necessary essential part of society for safety and comfortable space. However, inappropriate outdoor lighting leads to energy waste and poor landscape. Outdoor lighting is a very important social element, which enables us to conduct various activities at night in a safe, efficient and comfort way. River Thames in UK, Venice in Italy and Sydney in Australia is a good example of the coastal area. This paper aims to evaluate the light pollution of outdoor lighting in coastal area in Busan city. The Radiant Imaging ProMetric-1400 was used to measure the luminance of Gwangalli Beach, Marine City and Haeundae Beach. Compare to the CIE recommendation level the luminance of the all outdoor lighting were about 2~20 times higher. Outdoor lighting of the building facade luminance level and color should be particularly limited.
The purposes of this study were to evaluate the color characteristics and color sensibility of mulberry/cotton blended fabrics dyed with indigo, the natural dye, and analyze effects of them on color preferences. The values of CIE $L^*$, $a^*$, $b^*$$C^*$, h were calculated for the color characteristics of indigo-dyed fabrics, and their hue, value, and chroma were calculated according to the Munsell color system. Fifty male and female college students evaluated the color sensibility of nine types fabrics dyed with indigo on a seven-point scale. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, factor analysis, Kruscal-Wallis test, correlation analysis, and regression analysis. The mulberry/cotton blended fabrics naturally dyed with indigo showed the characteristics of PB color tones, low value, and low chroma. The color sensibilities of fabrics dyed with indigo were classified into four factors: 'classic', 'sporty', 'elegant' and 'natural'. There were significant differences according to the fibers and the repeating times of dyeing in the color sensibility for the fabrics. Cotton fabrics were evaluated to be more classic, sporty, elegant, and natural than the mulberry/cotton blended fabrics, and the deeper the color, the more classic, sporty, and elegant the fabric was evaluated. The students preferred the indigo dyed fabrics which have more classic, sporty, and natural sensibility. There were significant relationships between the color sensibilities and colorimetric properties of the fabrics dyed with indigo. The color preferences of the dyed fabrics with indigo were found to be influenced by the 'classic', 'sporty', 'natural' of color sensibility.
PURPOSES : This study has been performed with the objective to determine threshold zone luminance of adaptation luminance by target safety level in a vehicular traffic tunnel with design speed set at 100km/h. METHODS : The study made a miniature capable of portraying changes in luminance distribution within $2{\times}10^{\circ}$ conical field of view of the driver approaching to the tunnel for the test. Test conditions were set based on justifications for CIE 88-1990's threshold zone luminance used as a reference by domestic tunnel light standards (KS C 3703 : 2010). Luminance contrast of object background and object is 23%, object presentation duration is 0.5 seconds, and size of the object background is $7.3{\times}11.5m^2$ RESULTS : Threshold zone luminance was set within adaptation luminance of $100{\sim}3,000cd/m^2$. Adaptation luminance and threshold zone luminance based on 50%, 75% and 90% target safety level all showed a relatively high linear relationship. According to findings in the study, it is not appropriate to specify the relationship between adaptation luminance and threshold zone luminance as luminance ratio. Rather, direct utilization of the linear relationship gained from the study findings appears to be the better solution. CONCLUSIONS : Findings of this study may be used to determine operation of threshold zone luminance based on target safety level. However, a proper verification and validity of test results are required. Furthermore, a study to determine proper threshold zone luminance level considering target safety level reviewed in this study and various decision-making factors such as economic conditions in Korea and energy-related policies should be carried out in addition. Additional tests on adaptation luminance greater than $3,000cd/m^2$ will be performed, through which application scope of the test findings will be broadened.
New organic light-emitting diodes with structure of indium-tin-oxide[ITO]/N,N'-diphenyl-N, N'-bis-[4-(phenyl-m-tolvlamino)-phenyl]-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine[DNTPD]/1,1-bis-(di-4-poly-aminophenyl) cyclohexane[TAPC]/bis(10-hydroxy-benzo(h)quinolinato)beryllium[Bebq2]/Bebq2:iridium(III)bis(2-phenylquinoline-N,C2')acetylacetonate[(pq)2Ir(acac)]/ET-137[electron transport material from SFC Co]/LiF/Al using the selective doping of 5%-(pq)2Ir(acac) in a single Bebq2 host in the two wavelength (green, orange) emitter formation were proposed and characterized. In the experiments, with a 300${\AA}$-thick undoped emitter of Bebq2, two kinds of devices with the doped emitter thicknesses of 20${\AA}$ and 40${\AA}$ in the Bebq2:(pq)2Ir(acac) were fabricated. The device with a 20${\AA}$-thick doped emitter is referred to as "D-1" and the device with a 4${\AA}$-thick doped emitter is referred to as "D-2". Under an applied voltage of 9V, the luminance of D-1 and D-2 were 7780 $cd/m^2$ and 6620 $cd/m^2$, respectively. The electroluminescent spectrum of each fabricated device showed peak emissions at the same two wavelengths: 508 nm and 596 nm. However, the relative intensity of 596 nm to 508 nm at those wavelengths was higher in the D-2 than in the D-1. The D-1 and D-2 devices showed maximum current efficiencies of 5.2 cd/A and 6.0 cd/A, and color coordinates of (0.31, 0.50) and (0.37, 0.48) on the Commission Internationale de I'Eclairage[CIE] chart, respectively.
New poly(cyclopenta[def]phenanthrene) (PCPP)-based conjugated copolymers, containing carbazole units as pendants, were prepared as the electroluminescent (EL) layer in light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to show that most of them have higher maximum brightness and EL efficiency. The prepared polymers, Poly(2,6-(4-(6-(Ncarbazolyl)- hexyl)-4-octyl-4H-cyclopenta[def]phenanthrene)) (CzPCPP10) and Poly(2,6-(4-(6-(N-carbazolyl)- hexyl)-4-octyl-4H-cyclopenta[def]phenanthrene))-co-(2,6-(4,4-dioctyl-4H-cyclopenta[def]phenanthrene)) (CzPCPP7 and CzPCPP5), were soluble in common organic solvents and used as the EL layer in light-emitting diodes (LEDs) of configuration with ITO/PEDOT/polymer/Ca/Al device. The polymers are thermally stable with glass transition temperature (Tg) at 77-100 °C and decomposition temperature (Td) at 423-457 °C. The studies of cyclic voltammetry indicated same HOME levels in all polymers, although the ratios of carbazole units are different. In case of PLEDs with configuration of ITO/PEDOT/CzPCPPs/Ca/Al device, The EL maximum peaks were around 450 nm, which the turn-on voltages were about 6.0-6.5 V. The maximum luminescence of PLEDs using CzPCPP10 was over 4400 cd/m2 at 6.5 V, which all of the maximum EL efficiency were 0.12 cd/A. The CIE coordinates of the EL spectrum of PLEDs using CzPCPP10 was (0.18, 0.08), which are quite close to that of the standard blue (0.14, 0.08) of NTSC.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the repeatability and matching accuracy between two identical intraoral spectrophotometers. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The maxillary right central incisor, canine, and mandibular left central incisor of each of 30 patients were measured using 2 identical intraoral spectrophotometers with different serial numbers (EasyShade V). The color of each shade tab from 3 shade guides (VITA 3D-Master) was also determined with both devices. All measurements were performed by a single operator. Statistical analyses were performed to verify the repeatability, accuracy, and the differences between the devices with paired t-tests, one-way ANOVA, and intra-class correlation coefficients (ICCs) (${\alpha}=.05$). RESULTS. A high level of measurement repeatability (ICC>0.90) among $L^*$, $a^*$, and $b^*$ color components was observed within and between devices (P<.001). Intra-device matching agreement rates were 80.00% and 81.11%, respectively, while inter-device matching agreement rate was 51.85%. ANOVA revealed no significant different color values within each device, while paired t-test provided significant different color values between both devices. The CIEDE2000 color differences between both devices were $2.28{\pm}1.61$${\Delta}E_{00}$ for in-vivo readings. Regarding the clinical matching accuracy of both devices, ${\Delta}E_{00}$ values between teeth and matching shade tabs were $3.05{\pm}1.19$ and $2.86{\pm}1.02$, respectively. CONCLUSION. Although two EasyShade V devices with different serial numbers show high repeatability of CIE $L^*$, $a^*$, and $b^*$ measurements, they could provide different color values and shade for the same tooth.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to compare the optical properties of pre-colored dental monolithic zirconia ceramics of various thicknesses sintered in a microwave and those in a conventional furnace. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A2-shade of pre-colored monolithic zirconia ceramic specimens ($22.0mm{\times}22.0mm$) in 3 thickness groups of 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 mm were divided into 2 subgroups according to the sintering methods (n=9): microwave and conventional sintering. A spectrophotometer was used to obtain CIELab color coordinates, and translucency parameters and CIEDE2000 color differences (${\Delta}E_{00}$) were measured. The relative amount of monoclinic phase ($X_m$) was estimated with x-ray diffraction. The surface topography was analyzed by atomic force microscope and scanning electron microscope. Statistical analyses were conducted with two-way ANOVA (${\alpha}=.05$). RESULTS. There were small interaction effects on CIE $L^*$, $a^*$, and TP between sintering method and thickness (P<.001): $L^*$ (partial eta squared ${{\eta}_p}^2=0.115$), $a^*$ (${{\eta}_p}^2=0.136$), and TP (${{\eta}_p}^2=0.206$), although higher $b^*$ values were noted for microwave sintering regardless of thickness. Color differences between two sintering methods ranged from 0.52 to 0.96 ${\Delta}E_{00}$ units. The $X_m$ values ranged from 7.03% to 9.89% for conventional sintering, and from 7.31% to 9.17% for microwave sintering. The microwave-sintered specimen demonstrated a smoother surface and a more uniform grain structure compared to the conventionally-sintered specimen. CONCLUSION. With reduced processing time, microwave-sintered pre-colored dental monolithic zirconia ceramics can exhibit similar color perception and translucency to those by conventional sintering.
We have synthesized a $Eu^{2+}-activated\;{(Sr,Ba)}_2SiO_4$ yellow phosphor and investigated the development of blue LEDs by combining the phosphor with a InGaN blue LED chip (${\lambda}_{em}$=405 nm). The InGaN-based ${(Sr,Ba)}_2SiO_{4}:Eu$ LED lamp shows two bands at 405 nm and 550 nm. The 405 nm emission band is due to a radiative recombination from a InGaN active layer. This 405 nm emission was used as an optical transition of the ${(Sr,Ba)}_2SiO_{4}:Eu$ phosphor. The 550 nm emission band is ascribed to a radiative recombination of $Eu^{2+}$ impurity ions in the ${(Sr,Ba)}_2SiO_4$ host matrix. In the preparation of UV Yellow LED Lamp with ${(Sr,Ba)}_2SiO_{4}:Eu$ yellow phosphor, the highest luminescence efficiency was obtained at the epoxy-to-yellow phosphor ratio of 1:0.45. At this ratio, the CIE chromaticity was x=0.4097 and y=0.5488.
A new DCM derivative containing a phenothiazine moiety, 4-(dicyanomethylene)-2-t-butyl-6-(9-ethylphenothiazine-2- enyl)-4H-pyran (DCPTZ), has been synthesized as an orange-red fluorescent dye molecule for organic lightemitting diodes (OLEDs). EL devices with the structure of $ITO/PEDOT-PSS/{\alpha}-NPD/Alq_3:DCPTZ/Alq_3/LiF/Al$ have been fabricated with changing the doping concentration of the DCPTZ. Maximum EL spectra of the devices ranged from $580{\sim}620$ nm depending on the doping concentration of the dye molecule. An EL device with 0.5 % doping concentration showed CIE coordinate (0.51, 0.47) at luminance of 100 $cd/m^2$. White light-emitting devices with the structure of $ITO/PEDOT-PSS/{\alpha}-NPD/{\alpha}-NPD:DCPTZ/DPVBi/Alq_3/$ LiF/Al have been also fabricated. The thickness of blue light-emitting 1,4-bis(2,2- diphenylvinyl)benzene (DPVBi) layer was changed to obtain a white light-emission. A white light-emission from the device was observed when the thickness of the DPVBi layer became thicker than 10 nm.
Turquoise blue pigment of Vanadium-zircon blue (DCMA number 14-42-2), which was already commercialized, was stable to be reproduced but insufficient to give strong blue. However, it possible to obtain more intense blue by partially substituting cobalt ions into the willemite($Zn_2SiO_4$) lattice classified into DCMA number 7-10-2 for blue ceramic pigment. By the composition of willemite $Co_xZn_{2-x}SiO_4$(X=0.01, 0.03, 0.05, 0.07, 0.09 mole), this study used reagent grade zinc oxide, cobalt oxide and silicon dioxide as starting materials, carrying out the synthesis with solid reaction method by adding $H_3BO_3$ as a mineralizer. The firing temperature was between $1200^{\circ}C$ and $1400^{\circ}C$. The characteristics of synthesized pigment were analyzed by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy and SEM and the characteristics of color tones were analyzed by UV-Vis spectroscopy and CIE-$L^*a^*b^*$ measurement. As a result, the optimal composition was $Zn_{1.95}Co_{0.05}$ with 1wt% of $H_3BO_3$ as a mineralizer and firing condition was $1350^{\circ}C$/3 h. $L^*a^*b^*$ value was 29.25, 41.03, -59.93 for on glaze pigment and 37.03, 36.41, -60.03 for under glaze pigment.
