Foreign bodies impacted in the maxillofacial region are often a diagnostic challenge. They can be a source of chronic inflammatory reactions and infections leading to the formation of an orocutaneous fistula. Such orocutaneous fistulas cause significant morbidity in most patients, eventually requiring surgery. Recently, we encountered a very rare case of an orocutaneous fistula caused by multiple foreign bodies in the cheek. Precise removal of the foreign bodies was required, and a double-sided anterolateral thigh free flap was used to reconstruct the defect. Surgeons should be aware of the complications of multiple foreign bodies and should be able to diagnose these on careful clinical examination.

The purpose of this study was to identify the degree of perceived powerlessness and the factors which influence the powerlessness of the elderly. Data were collected by self-reported structured questionnare from 210 subjects living in Kwang-Ju and Che-Ju cities on 5th to 17th February 1996. Data were analyzed using statistical package SAS. The findings were as follows : 1. The mean scores of the degree of perceived powerlessness of the subjects were 58.90 out of 85. The elderly people in Kwang-Ju city perceived more powerlessness than elderly people of Che-Ju city. 2. The factors which influence the powerlessness of the elderly were age, gender, education level, living standard, spouse, former and present job, health condition, family support, social and recreational activities. From the results of this study, to alleviate the powerlessness of the elderly, with the efforts of health maintenance and promotion various community based social activities and support system should be developed for the elderly.

Phytochemical analysis of Boehmeria nivea (Bn) leaves by medium pressure liquid chromatography led to the isolation of a flavonoid glycoside identified by spectroscopic analysis as rutin. The amount of rutin in the leaves of Bn harvested from nine regions in South Korea (Bn 1-9) which were collected on the months of June, July, August, and September was determined by HPLC-UV analysis. A gradient elution program that utilizes a $Discovery^{(R)}$ C18 ($4.6{\times}250mm$, $5{\mu}m$) column and mobile phase composed of 1% acetic acid-water: acetonitrile (90:10 to 60:40 for min) was followed. The injection volume and flow rate were $10{\mu}l$ and 1 mL/ min, respectively. UV detection was set at 350 nm. Results show that Bn-8 harvested in September reported the highest content of rutin among the samples analyzed. This study provides a basis for the optimal harvest time of Bn which maximizes the yield of rutin.

To understand the discharge characteristics in AC-PDP, it is necessary to study on the wall charge behavior. But, it is difficult to measure the wall charge directly. In this paper, the V-Q Lissajous' figure is used to measure the wall charge indirectly and analyze the wall charge behavior. With the V-Q Lissajous' figure, the discharge characteristics of AC-PDP are studied according to vary driving conditions, such as the frequency, pulse duty ratio, and rising & falling time. As a result, the V-Q Lissajous' figure is used to measure the discharge characteristics of the AC-PDP. It is confirmed that firing initial voltage and firing final voltage for discharge are effected by the aboved variables. Related with the wall voltage generation, it is thought that the difference of the slope at the V-Q Lissajous' figure is caused by charged ions inside the dielectric layer.

Simultaneous determination of three methoxyflavones, namely, cirsimarin (1), hispidulin (2), and cirsimaritin (3) in selected Korean thistles was performed via reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography system. Compound 1 was present in all the thistle species examined, whereas 2 and 3 were only detected in Cirsium japonicum and C. japonicum var. maackii (CJM). The concentration of compounds 1-3 in CJM varied according to the time of harvest. Plants collected in the spring (CJMS) and fall (CJMF) had the highest contents of 3 and 1, respectively. A lower content of 2 was observed in CJMF than in CJMS. This indicates that seasonal variation affects the flavonoid content of CJM. The results of this study show that CJM is an excellent source of compounds 1-3 and it can potentially be cultivated for industrial and pharmaceutical applications involving these compounds.
