  • The infestation status of anisakid type larvae was investigated in migrating chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta), with different condition (captured area, sex, body portion) during 2006~2008. The mean infection number of anisakid larvae per individual female and male fish captured from Namdae river was $98{\pm}27$, $103{\pm}27$, respectively. The mean infection number of anisakid larvae per individual female and male fish captured from the coastal area of Yangyang was $63{\pm}18$ and $108{\pm}17$, respectively. The anisakid larvae were mainly found in abdominal muscles (85%) but only a little in the visceral portion. Two types of anisakid larvae (A. simplex, Contracaecum type) were identified but other anisakid larvae were not detected. To investigate the effect of storing temperature on the viability of anisakid larvae, the section of abdominal muscle were stored at different temperature (room temperature, $4^{\circ}C$, $-20^{\circ}C$, $-80^{\circ}C$). As a result, it was necessary to store at $-20^{\circ}C$ for more than 6 hrs to kill the larvae. The present results revealed that chum salmon caught in Korea are heavily infected with anisakid larvae, mainly in the abdominal muscle, and A. simplex was dominantly found in this study.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of different salinity on growth, survival and hematological parameters of juvenile chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta). The fish were tested at salinity 0, 10, 20 and 30‰ for 30 days with three replicated groups. After the 30 days, the survival rate was 87.5% or more for 0, 10, 20‰ and significantly decreased to 75% at 30‰. Weight gain, specific growth rate, feed efficiency, daily feed intake, daily protein intake and protein efficiency ratio were the highest at 10‰. In the plasma components, the alanine aminotransferase (ALT) was significantly decreased at 10, 20 and 30‰ in compared with 0‰, whereas sodium (Na+) and chloride (Cl-) was significant increased and there was no significant change in the total protein (TP) and potassium (K+). In conclusion, the optimal salt concentration for the growth of juvenile chum salmon (11~33 g) was confirmed to be 10‰, but the association with the change in blood composition should be further studied.

  • Early growth of chum salmon was investigated in terms of rearing pond condition. The number of fingerling showed big differences by rearing pond $1,003,000{\sim}1,865,000$. The fork length of fingerlings ranged from $3.20{\sim}3.78cm$ and body weight ranged $0.34{\sim}0.49g$. Daily temperature of rearing water in January to March was $6{\sim}8^{\circ}C$, which is inadequate for salmon growth. pH was $6.0{\sim}6.3$ in early and mid February, 6.5 in late February and $6.5{\sim}7.0$ in March. Dissolved oxygen concentration was lowest from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and increased after 6 p.m. The maximum value was seen from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. The mortality of fingerlings was 5 times higher in the daytime than at night because of dissolved oxygen. Growth of fingerlings was affected by daily ration, concentration of dissolved oxygen and rearing temperature.

  • Ginseng anthracnose was observed in Koyang area, Korea. A fungus was repeatedly isolated from leaves and stems of the infected ginseng plants and identified as Colletotrichum dematium according to the morpho-logical and cultural characteristics. The fungus showed pathogenicity on inoculated ginseng leaves. This is the first report of ginseng anthracnose caused by Colletotri-chum dematium in Korea.

  • We present a deep(B, V) color-magnitude diagram (CMD) of the Galactic globular cluster NGC 4372. According to the recent inside-out picture of Galaxy formation, this cluster is predicted to be one of the oldest globulat clusters in the Galaxy. Our CMD shows a well defined main-sequence extending ∼ 2 magnitudes below the trunoff. Despite the uncertainty that stems from the small sample size of bright stars, comparison with the Revised Yale Isochrones suggests that this cluster may indeed be one of the oldest (∼16.6 Gyrs) globular clusters in our Galaxy.

  • In this paper, the fuzzy ISODATA algorithm is applied to forecasting liquefaction of sand in the antiseismic structures. According to the data of the earthquake taken place in Tang Shan in 1976, we construct a model of mathematics, on which we forecast 32 samples in the earthquake of Tang Shan. The correct rate of forecast is 90.7 %.
