  • Skin aging is a complex biological process due to intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Free radical oxidative is one of extrinsic factors that induce activation of collagenase, elastase and hyaluronidase. Natural product from plants has been used as antioxidant and antiaging. This study aimed to evaluate antioxidant and antiaging properties of Hibiscus sabdariffa extract (HSE) and its compounds including myricetin, ascorbic acid, and ${\beta}$ carotene. The phytochemical of H. sabdariffa was determined using modified Farnsworth method and presence of phenols, flavonoids and tannins were in moderate content, whereas triterpenoids and alkaloids were in low content. Total phenolic content performed using Folin-Ciocalteu method, was $23.85{\mu}gGAE/mg$. Quantitative analysis of myricetin, ${\beta}-carotene$, and ascorbic acid of HSE was performed with Ultra-High Performance Liquid Chromatography (UHPLC) that shows $78.23{\mu}g/mg$ myricetin, $0.034{\mu}g/mg$ ${\beta}-carotene$, whilst ascorbic acid was not detected. HSE has lower activity on DPPH ($IC_{50}=195.73{\mu}g/mL$) compared to ${\beta}-carotene$, the lowest in ABTS assay ($IC_{50}=74.58{\mu}g/mL$) and low activity in FRAP assay ($46.24{\mu}MFe(II)/{\mu}g\;$) compared to myricetin, ${\beta}-carotene$. Antiaging was measured through inhibitory activity of collagenase, elastase, and hyaluronidase. HSE had weakest collagenase inhibitory activity ($IC_{50}=750.33{\mu}g/mL$), elastase inhibitory activity ($103.83{\mu}g/mL$), hyaluronidase inhibitory activity ($IC_{50}=619.43{\mu}g/mL$) compared to myricetin, ${\beta}-carotene$, and ascorbic acid. HSE contain higher myricetin compared to ${\beta}-carotene$. HSE has moderate antioxidants and lowest antiaging activities. Myricetin is the most active both antioxidant and antiaging activities.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate pre-service biology teachers' perception of the evolution. This study was to compare the views of pre-service biology teachers with no religion with those of christian preservice teachers. Subjects were 77 pre-service biology teachers who enrolled in an university and graduate school of education located in Seoul. The instrument of this study was a questionnaire which consisted of 14 items on 2 domains: the nature of science, the origins of human beings. The key results are as follows. Most pre-service teachers showed highly understanding of the characteristics of science. However pre-service biology teachers still possessed naive views on the distinction of law and theory. In terms of the methods of science, many of the pre-service biology teachers considered scientific theories to progress through the accumulation of observation and experiments or through changes and modifications in existing theories. Compared with the pre-service teachers with no religion, christian pre-service teachers had conflicting views and misconceptions about the origins of human beings. The factors of religion were found to be one of the important barriers which prevent them from understanding the origins of human beings. The results suggested that the education program for pre-service biology teachers integrating the concepts and development process of the scientific knowledges should be effective for understanding the nature of science. For pre-service biology teachers, It is important to understand conflicting views of the christian pre-service teachers who understand creationism as a science.

  • When open reduction of maxilla fractures is postponed due to concurrent life-threatening injuries, delayed union may result with malunion or nonunion. If delayed malunion is occurred, significant facial deformity may result, including a dished-out face, irregular retromaxillism with Angle's class III malocclusion, open anterior bite, nasal collapse, telecanthus and malar flattening. The treatment planning for this problem includes cephalometric evaluation anterior and lateral tomograms, dental casts, orthodontic planning, dental planning and use of impression tray to rupture the fibrous tissue casts, orthodontic planning, dental planning and use of impression tray to rupture the fibrous tissue attachment at the fracture site. In this paper, one case presented a 58-year-old female patient with maxilla retrusion after comminuted fracture, who was treated with orthodontic methods of maxillary protraction headgear and Plaster headcap, whereas the other two cases were about male patients who were treated principally with surgically open reduction or Le Fort I-controlled transverse osteotomy with iliac bone graft.

  • The purpose of this study was explored the effect of Flipped PBL on Communication and Problem Solving skill of University students. For study, students in the college of education at A University and S University located in Gyeonggi-do were set up 60 students. They majored in Christian education and early childhood education, and the level of education was similar in the same region and department. In the experiment, the comparison group and the experimental group were separated, and data were collected through pre-test before class and post-test after class, followed by analysis covariance(ANCOVA). Between the comparative group performing flipped learning and the experimental group performing flipped PBL, the problem solving ability and communication ability using the flipped PBL averaged 4.28 and the communication ability averaged 4.06. As a result, it was higher than each of the comparison groups, confirming that it had a significant effect. This will be able to present a flipped PBL class design as an alternative method to overcome the limitations of the existing flip learning in a changing classroom situation and to improve the communication and problem solving ability of the learner.

  • Objective Several cell line studies have demonstrated thioridazine's anticancer, multidrug resistance-reversing and apoptosis-inducing properties in various tumors. We conducted this nationwide population-based study to investigate the association between thioridazine use and cancer risk among adult patients with schizophrenia. Methods Based on the Psychiatric Inpatient Medical Claim of the National Health Insurance Research Database of Taiwan, a total of 185,689 insured psychiatric patients during 2000 to 2005 were identified. After excluding patients with prior history of schizophrenia, only 42,273 newly diagnosed patients were included. Among them, 1,631 patients ever receiving thioridazine for more than 30 days within 6 months were selected and paired with 6,256 randomly selected non-thioridazine controls. These patients were traced till 2012/12/31 to see if they have any malignancy. Results The incidence rates of hypertension and cerebrovascular disease were higher among cases than among matched controls. The incidence of hyperlipidemia, coronary artery disease and chronic pulmonary disease did not differ between the two groups. By using Cox proportional hazard model for cancer incidence, the crude hazard ratio was significantly higher in age, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, cerebrovascular disease, coronary artery disease and chronic pulmornary disease. However, after adjusting for other covariates, only age and hypertension remained significant. Thioridazine use in adult patients with schizophrenia had no significant association with cancer. Conclusion Despite our finding that thioridazine use had no prevention in cancer in adult patients with schizophrenia. Based on the biological activity, thioridazine is a potential anticancer drug and further investigation in human with cancer is warranted.

  • In our previous study, we proposed an integrated PG-PET-based imaging method to increase the prediction accuracy for patient dose distributions. The purpose of the present study is to experimentally validate the feasibility of the PG-PET system. Based on the detector geometry optimized in the previous study, we constructed a dual-head PG-PET system consisting of a 16 × 16 GAGG scintillator and KETEK SiPM arrays, BaSO4 reflectors, and an 8 × 8 parallel-hole tungsten collimator. The performance of this system as equipped with a proof of principle, we measured the PG and positron emission (PE) distributions from a 3 × 6 × 10 cm3 PMMA phantom for a 45 MeV proton beam. The measured depth was about 17 mm and the expected depth was 16 mm in the computation simulation under the same conditions as the measurements. In the comparison result, we can find a 1 mm difference between computation simulation and measurement. In this study, our results show the feasibility of the PG-PET system for in-vivo range verification. However, further study should be followed with the consideration of the typical measurement conditions in the clinic application.

  • Cross-legged sitting postures are commonly assumed during computer work. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of leg crossing on trunk muscle activity while typing at a computer. Trunk muscle activity was measured in three 8 different sitting postures, in random order. These posture were: normal sitting with a straight trunk and both feet on the floor (NS), upper leg crossing (ULC), and ankle on knee (AOK). The right leg was crossed onto the left leg in both cross-legged postures. Twenty able-bodied male volunteers participated in this study. Subjects typed on a computer keyboard for one minute. Surface electromyography (EMG) was used to record bilateral muscle activity in the external oblique (EO). internal oblique (IO), and rectus abdominis (RA). The EMG activity of each muscle in the NS posture was used as a reference (100% EMG activity) in relation to the two cross-legged postures. Muscle activity in the right EO. right IO, and left IO was significantly lower in the ULC posture than in the NS posture. In contrast, muscle activity in the right RA was significantly higher in the ULC posture than in the NS posture. Muscle activity in the tight RA was significantly higher in the AOK posture, as compared to the NS posture, whereas activity in the left IO was significantly lower in the AOK posture, as compared to the NS posture. The right-left muscle activity ratios in the EO and IO showed significantly different patterns in the cross-legged postures, suggesting that asymmetrical right-left oblique muscle activity had occurred.

  • Knowledge management becomes the key point for organizations to survive and maintain competitive advantages in the knowledge economy era. E-learning plays a vital role for the organizational learning. How to share the experience of knowledge and the success of the knowledge management has great connection with the organizational culture. This study focuses on the factors of effective E-learning as well as its relation to the organizational culture. A successful e-learning system should not only aim at different statistical variables but emphasize on : course contents, variety of teaching methods and establishes a stable network environment. A stable E-learning platform and speedy bandwidth is a must to achieve the non-barrier communication and built an interactive learning environment. To achieve success in E-learning, it is not necessary to divide the organizational culture to strengthen the course content multiplication and plans the E-learning supervisory work by the sole responsibility unit. It should establish an ample teaching frequency width and platform and also must establish the appropriate study network frequency width and hardware equipment to achieve the best E-learning effect. The interaction in different organizational culture in adapting E-learning, those Ad-hoc and Marketing Culture, are mostly influence by the external environment and have more interactive content. Those in Clan and Hierarchy Culture are affected by traditional conception and lack of interaction. Meanwhile, under the cost consideration, Clan and Ad-hoc Culture on the dynamic side prefer to spend more cost on E-Learning while the stable side, Hierarchy and Marketing culture are willing to pay more expenses on E-Learning.

  • Supernumerary teeth develop from excessive proliferation and development of the dental lamina. Supernumerary teeth can cause several problems, including ectopic eruption, delayed eruption, root resorption of adjacent teeth, and diastema. Supernumerary teeth in infancy are rare and have rarely been reported. Case of a 2-day-old infant with 3 supernumerary teeth is presented here and the patient was followed up for 21 months. The erupted supernumerary tooth in the primary dentition was extracted under moderate sedation at the age of 14 months. Microcomputed tomography analysis of the extracted tooth confirmed microscopic root malformation. After extraction, the midline diastema was reduced and oral hygiene improved. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment can prevent complications of supernumerary teeth.

  • The term public health is used today when the health of a population is referred to. Before we look at public health, we should know the meaning of health. It is, however a difficult concept to define. The World Health Organisations definition of health, states that health is a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity (WHO Constitution 1947). Health, in this context, is placed in an idealistic sphere that is unattainable in everyday life.(omitted)
