De -icing salts have been used commonly in areas where snow or ice is a seasonal safety hazard for roadway, however, the salts is one of main causes on serious deterioration of road infrastructures in crowded urban city like Seoul. In order to establish maintenance strategy of road infrastructures under de-icing salts laden environment, it is necessary to examine environmental characteristics and its response to the existing facilities. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the deterioration environment of road infrastructures. Additional purpose is to develop a design model and details for durability design of infrastructures under de-icing salts laden environment, considering mainly a build-up rate of surface chlorides. Concentration of external chloride solution and surface chloride content were calculated at the level of average de-icing salts for 5 years, ratio of auxiliary road of 17.5 to 30%, and effective exposure area to snow 50 to 80%. The chloride build-up rate was 0.073 ~ 0.077% / year and the maximum surface chloride content was calculated to be 2.2 ~ 2.31% by concrete wt. This study is expected to be used for establishing integrated strategy of road infrastructures, such as predicting chloride profiles or degree of chemical corrosion to exposure concrete.

The changes in the red cell volume and the plasma chloride level were measured when the blood $CO_2$ content was altered by equilibration with the atmospheric air or pure $CO_2$ for 20 minutes. The red cell volume was expressed in terms of hematocrit and mean corpuscular volume (M.C.V.). The results obtained were as follows. 1) On equilibration with the atmospheric air, the MCV and the plasma chloride level were $91.6{\pm}1.26\;c.{\mu}$ and $110.7{\pm}6.28mEq/L.$ respectively. 2) On equilibration with pure $CO_{2}$, the MCV and the plasma chloride level were $109.6{\pm}2.0\;c.{\mu}$ and $90.7{\pm}5.17\;mEq/L.$ respectively. 3) When the blood was subjected to equilibration with the atmospheric for air 20 minutes after equilibration with pure $CO_{2}$ for the same period of time the MCV and the plasma chloride level were $89.9{\pm}6.34\;c.{\mu}$ and $100.3{\pm}5.50\;mEq/L.$ respectively. From the above results it can be concluded that an increase of the blood $CO_2$ content in the experimental condition causes definitely a decrease of the plasma chloride level and a concomitant increase of the red cell volume, and that a decrease of the blood content $CO_2$ in the experimental condition causes definitely an increase of the plasma chloride level and a concomitant decrease of the red cell volme. Apparantly there exists a parallel relationship between the extent of the decrease of the plasma chloride level and that of the increase of the red cell volume when the blood $CO_2$ content increased in the experimental condition. When the blood $CO_2$ content decreased, the extent of the decrease of the red cell volume exceeds that of the increase of the plasma chloride level.
In this study, the effect of precipitation temperature, ammonium chloride amount and addition method, vanadium and sodium hydroxide content of the solution on the precipitation of ammonium metavanadate were examined by using the sodium vanadate(NaVO3) solution in alkali region as a starting material. As the pH of solution decreased, the addition amount of ammonium chloride and the vanadium content of the solution increased, the precipitation rate of ammonium metavanadate increased. In this research condition, the basic conditions for obtaining more than 90% of precipitation yield were 10,000mg/L of vanadium content, 2equivalents of ammonium chloride addition, room temperature, and 2 hours of precipitation time. The size of precipitated particles decreased with increasing precipitation rate. Especially when liquid ammonium chloride was injected into the solution, the precipitation rate was the slowest and the particle size of the precipitate was the largest. After the primary precipitation by adding ammonium chloride as a solid, the secondary precipitation was carried out by adding new reactants. At this time, the precipitation with added ammonium chloride solid was not affected by the precipitates present in the solution. However, when liquid ammonium chloride was added, new precipitate was deposited on the surface of the precipitate present in the solution, increasing its size. Due to the difference in ammonium metavanadate solubility to temperature, the precipitation temperature at the vanadium content of 10,000mg/L in the solution affected the precipitation rate of ammonium metavanadate and the precipitation temperature did not affect the precipitation rate at a high concentration of more than 30,000mg/L vanadium content in the solution.
Refined analysis depicting mass transportation and physicochemical reaction and reasonable computing load with acceptable DOFs are the two major challenges of numerical simulation for concrete durability. Mesoscopic numerical simulation for chloride diffusion considering binder, aggregate and interfacial transition zone is unable to be expended to the full structure due to huge number of DOFs. In this paper, a multiscale approach of combining both mesoscopic model including full-graded aggregate and equivalent macroscopic model was introduced. An equivalent conversion of chloride content at the Interfacial Transition Layer (ITL) connecting both models was considered. Feasibility and relative error were discussed by analytical deduction and numerical simulation. Case study clearly showed that larger analysis model in multiscale model expanded the diffusion space of chloride ion and decreased chloride content in front of rebar. Difference for single-scale simulation and multiscale approach was observed. Finally, this paper addressed some worth-noting conclusions about the chloride distribution and rebar corrosion regarding the configuration of rebar placement, rebar diameter, concrete cover and exposure period.

Chloride ingress into concrete followed by reinforcement corrosion and deterioration of concrete structures is a major problem for many structures under chloride attacks. Large-scale concrete structures directly exposed to seawater such as SeoHae Grand Bridge are increasingly constructed along the coast in Korea. It is necessary to investigate the environmental conditions of concrete structures exposed to chloride attacks. In this study, the air-borne chloride contents of highway bridges exposed to marine environment in Korea were measured.
The service life in RC (Reinforced Concrete) is very important and it is usually obtained through deterministic method based on Fick's 2nd law and probabilistic method. This paper presents an evaluation of $P_{df}$(durability failure probability) and the related service life considering time-dependent behaviors in chloride diffusion and surface chloride content. For the work, field investigation is performed for RC structures exposed to chloride attack for 3.5~4.5years, focusing tidal zone (6.0 m) and sea shore (9.0 m), respectively. Random variables like cover depth, chloride diffusion coefficient, and surface chloride content are obtained, and $P_{df}$ and the service life are evaluated. Unlike the results from deterministic method using LIFE 365, probabilistic method with time effects on diffusion and surface chloride shows a relatively rapid change in the result, which is a significant reductions of service life in the case with low surface chloride content. For probabilistic evaluation of durability, high surface chloride content over $10.0kg/m^3$ is required and reasonable service life can be derived with consideration of time-dependent diffusion coefficient.
The influence of subsequent curing on the performance of fly ash contained mortar under steam curing was studied. Mortar samples incorporated with different content (0%, 20%, 50% and 70%) of Class F fly ash under five typical subsequent curing conditions, including standard curing (ZS), water curing(ZW) under 25℃, oven-dry curing (ZD) under 60℃, frozen curing (ZF) under -10℃, and nature curing (ZN) exposed to outdoor environment were implemented. The unsteady chloride diffusion coefficient was measured by rapid chloride migration test (RCM) to analyze the influence of subsequent curing condition on the resistance to chloride penetration of fly ash contained mortar under steam curing. The compressive strength was measured to analyze the mechanical properties. Furthermore, the open porosity, mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP), x-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) were examined to investigate the pore characteristics and phase composition of mortar. The results indicate that the resistance to chloride ingress and compressive strength of steam-cured mortar decline with the increase of fly ash incorporated, regardless of the subsequent curing condition. Compared to ZS, ZD and ZF lead to poor resistance to chloride penetration, while ZW and ZN show better performance. Interestingly, under different fly ash contents, the declining order of compressive strength remains ZS>ZW>ZN>ZD>ZF. When the fly ash content is blow 50%, the open porosity grows with increase of fly ash, regardless of the curing conditions are diverse. However, if the replacement amount of fly ash exceeds a certain high proportion (70%), the value of open porosity tends to decrease. Moreover, the main phase composition of the mortar hydration products is similar under different curing conditions, but the declining order of the C-S-H gels and ettringite content is ZS>ZD>ZF. The addition of fly ash could increase the amount of harmless pores at early age.

The effect of chloride content on the corrosion of reinforced bar in concrete was studied. The mixing ratio of the concrete was 1 : 1.78 : 5.35 : 4.73 (water : content : ballast : sand). The studied chloride content was in the range of 0∼3.5 wt%. The corrosion potentials were measured in every week for two years. The copper-copper sulfate electrode (CSE) was employed as a reference electrode. After two years, the corroded structure was examined and compared to measured corrosion potential. Any visible difference was founded in the specimen located indoor and outdoor. The chloride concentration enhanced rusting and reinforced bar, shifting the potential to active range. The results showed good argument with Van daveer criteria. In 3.5 wt% chloride, the potential shifted belong -350 mV after 58week. Specimen in 1.75 wt% chloride, showed the potential between -200 mV∼-350 mV. However those in free chloride solution maintained above -200 mV for the studied period. It can the concluded that the chloride enhanced corrosion of rebar in concrete and the electrochemical potential can be a promising corrosion monitoring technique.

GGBFS(Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag)-replacement is very effective for improving resistance to chloride attack and this can induce a long service life for RC(Reinforced Concrete) structures exposed to chlorides. In the work, the design parameters such as cover depth, surface chloride content, critical chloride content, and replacement ratio of GGBFS are considered, and optimum replacement ratio of GGBFS are derived with intended service life. The changes of surface chloride content and cover depth show 3.16~3.38 and 3.02~3.34 times of service life variation, which are most influencing parameters. Critical chloride content shows 1.53~1.57 times of service life variation regardless of w/b(Water to Binder) ratios. In the case of surface chloride content $18.0kg/m^3$, the most severe condition, cover depth over 70 mm and GGBFS replacement ratio over 42% are required with concrete containing w/b ratio under 0.42 for 100 years of intended service life. The condition of $13.0kg/m^3$, GGBFS replacement over 35% is required. For reasonable durability design, quantitative exterior condition and critical chloride content should be determined, and the criteria in Domestic Specification is evaluated to be conservative.

Three species of Rhodophyceae namely Chondrus ocellatus, Grateloupia filicina and Gigartina tenella were collected from the coast of Haeundae, Busan, on June 33, 1975. And analysed with respect to the content of carrageenan and such chemical characteristics as the content of sulphate and 3, 6-anhydrogalactose, the solubility in potassium chloride solution. In addition, the same chemical properties were tested on the fractions separated by the different concentration of potassium chloride. Carrageenan content in Chondrus ocellatus was relatively higher than two other samples. All the samples showed more than thirty five percent. The Gigartina-carrageenan showed the highest 3,6-anhydrogalactose content among three samples of carrageenan obtained from different species, and the lowest marked from the Grateloupia-carrageenan. In comparison of the solubility of carrageenan in potassium chloride solution, the precipitation yields at 0.125M potassium chloride were marked in order of Chondrus-carrageenan, Grateloupia-carrageenan, and Gigartina-carrageenan, and the yields at 0.125 M to 2.0 M potassium chloride were in Gigartina-carrageenan, Grateloupia-carrageenan, and Chondrus-carrageenan, and the yields from the soluble fraction at 2.0 M potassium chloride were in order of Grateloupia-carrageenan, Gigartina-carrageenan, and Chondrus-carrageenan. It is noteworthy from the result of characteristics of carrageenans that, 3,6-andydrogalactose content was closely related to the solubility of carrageenans in potassium chloride solution and to the sulphate content which might affect reversibly.
