The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between children's self-concepts and (1) types of functional family systems. (2) family cohesion and adaptability levels, and (3) the satisfaction of children with their current family systems. The subjects of this study were 347 middle S. E. S. children (168 boys, 179 girls) in grade 6. Analysis of functional family systems was by The Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scales III(1985) of the Circuplex Model (Olson et al., 1979). The Self-concept Inventory (Lim Jae Leun, 1987) was used to assess children's self-concepts. The data were analyzed with one-way ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ and Pearson correlation. It was found that there were no differences in children's self-concepts by types of functional systems. There were differences in children's self-concepts by family cohesion and adaptability levels. That is, the higher the level of cohesion and adaptability the more positive the child's self-concept. The more the child was satisfied with his/her current family system, the more positive the child's self-concept. Children whose family systems were at a high level of family cohesion and adaptability were more satisfied with their current family systems.
Internalizing and externalizing behavior problems may be more common in children with disability families but rarely known is the magnitude of the problem and the risk factors compared to those in children with non-disability families. This study was undertaken to examine if socio-economic factors, parental health, and family functioning affect children's internalizing and externalizing behaviors differently between two comparison groups. The research literature on childhood behaviors was briefly reviewed. The data was derived from the Mental Health of Children and Young People in Great Britain, 2004. Regression analyses provide evidence that the family type, economic status, and income level are uniquely associated with an increased risks of internalizing or externalizing behavior problems in children with disability families, whereas sex, age, family size, parental health, and family functioning factors have similar impacts on the child's internalizing or externalizing variances between two groups. Intervention is desirable to address the concerns influencing internalizing and externalizing performances among children with disability or non-disability families.
Among many factors that affect the development of the talent of gifted children, the family factor that first finds and cultivates the talent of gifted children is quite important. The researches on the family of gifted children are mostly concentrated on physical environment out of the home environment, neglecting psychological environment. Although the recreational activity of family with gifted children considerably contributes to the emotional, intellectual and social development of gifted children themselves and to the improvement of life quality of the family members, the recreation of family with gifted children has not yet been studied. Thus, the objective of this research is to present basic materials for seeking the direction to educate parents and to support family with gifted children in order to encourage synergy effect in emotional and social growth of family with gifted children by surveying the property of recreation of family with gifted children. The result of result is as follows. First, the type of family with gifted children tends to be remarkably biased to 'family-oriented activity' and 'elf-development activity.' Second, verifying the significant level of motive for recreational activity of family with gifted children at the variables such as number of family members, parents' age, parents' education level, parents' occupation, etc, it was concluded that they were not statistically significant. The result of this research suggests that education and support for efficient recreation of family with gifted children is necessary to achieve healthy talent of gifted children.

The purpose of this study is to investigate children's emotional problems (attention problem, aggression, somatic symptom, social withdrawal, depression) and to examine the relationship between children's emotional problems with family characteristics (parent education, parent job, family income), life-styles (gaming times, TV times, sleep time). The sample was 2,140 collections of second grade children and their parents who participated in Korea Youth Panel Survey on 2011. We analyzed the data which were collected by means of questionnaires and the data were analyzed with t -test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis, and regression analysis with SPSS ver. 19.0. There is a significant difference in the children's emotional problems according to family characteristics and life-styles. There was a relationship between children's emotional problems (attention problem, aggression, somatic symptom, social withdrawal, depression) and life-styles (gaming times, TV times). The significant factors influencing the children's emotional problems are connected with father's education, mother's job, family income, family characteristics, gaming time and TV time of life style. The purpose of this study was to investigate how children from low-income families perceived their family strength, ego-resilience and school adjustment. The relative magnitude of effects of family strength, ego-resilience and school adjustment were compared. Data were collected from 217 children in grade 4 through 6 who were attending local child welfare centers located in Seoul, Korea. The key research findings were as follows. Ego-resilience and perceived family strength were related to school adjustment among children in poverty. The relatively greater effect of ego-resilience implied that programs for children in poverty need to focus on developing interpersonal relationship skills or coping strategies designed to enable children from disadvantaged environments to deal with stressful events and to promote their ego-resilience. Additionally, the recovery or enhancement of family strength and ego-resilience will be effective at protecting and solving various adaptive problems that children from low-income families may experience at school.
This study analyzed the effect of family meals on the psychological problems of children. We performed focus group interviews (FGI) on the basic characteristics of family meals, and chose several scales (such as Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL), self-esteem, and a daily hassles questionnaire), to measure the psychological variables. We collected data from 442 dyads (mother-child) and used 440 from dyads. In our results, the frequency of family meals affected the psychological problems of children, especially aggression and emotional instability. The atmosphere during meals also affected depression/anxiety, concentration difficulties, emotional instability, self-esteem, peer relationships, and sociality. There were significant correlations between meal atmosphere, family bonding, maternal personality, and psychological problems of children. We performed covariation analysis to examine and control the influence of family bonding and maternal personality; despite controlling for these variables, family meals still influenced children's psychological problems. We conclude that the family meal is a significant variable that impacts the emotional and behavioral problems of children and stress the importance of frequent family meals.
