  • Road traffic accidents (RTAs) are the leading cause of accidental death among children. RTA reduction is becoming an increasingly important social issue among children. Municipalities aim to resolve this issue by introducing "Smart Pedestrian Crosswalks" that help prevent traffic accidents near children's facilities. Nonetheless such facilities tend to be installed in relatively limited number of areas, such as the school zone. In order for budget allocation to be efficient and policy effects maximized, optimal location selection based on machine learning is needed. In this paper, we employ machine learning models to select the optimal locations for smart pedestrian crosswalks to reduce the RTAs of children. This study develops an optimal location index using variable importance measures. By using k-means clustering method, the authors classified the crosswalks into three types after the optimal location selection. This study has broadened the scope of research in relation to smart crosswalks and traffic safety. Also, the study serves as a unique contribution by integrating policy design decisions based on public and open data.

  • This study reviews facts and trends of harmful environments in the last decade that negatively affected children's development. Younger children have been exposed to harmful media, drugs, facilities, and objects. A matter of chemical substances contaminating in-door air has become quite controversial, recently. In order to provide a better understanding of harmful environments against children, there are great needs for a survey covering all ages based on the clear definition of the term harmful environments, research identifying its causal effects on child development in the context of both parent-child and peer relationships, and a longitudinal study processing its effects in a life-span perspective. It is suggested that by providing parent education and a plenty of cultural facilities as social efforts to create sound family culture, psycho-social and physical environments of children are improved. Furthermore, legal regulations and supervision on harmful environments are needed to be strengthened.

주거지 외부공간에 대한 아동의 의견 및 선호도 분석에 관한 연구 -대구시 초등학교 학생을 중심으로 - (A Study on Analyzation of Opinion and Preference of Children about the Outdoor Environment of Housing in Daegu)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the planning device of outdoor environment of housing area for children. This study was accomplished the analyzation of opinion and preference of 230 children, elementary school students in Daegu. The contents of survey included the general items of children, the characteristics of outdoor activities, and the opinion & preference about outdoor space of housing area. And the survey of children's preference was used the 5 Likert scale. The conclusion of this study are as follows : First, generally, the design guidelines of housing area were provided to adult user, but the guidelines for children are limited at play space and park. So, the design guidelines of housing area must be provided by the children's opinion, pointment, and dissatisfaction. Second, children have the definite opinion and can point the preference about the outdoor space of housing area. So, children's opinion can not be bypassed in the process for planning of housing area. Third, children prefer the outdoor space that was furnished the facilities for convenience of the children's outdoor activities. So, exiting guideline of the outdoor space of housing area must improve to children.

충남지역 어린이집 및 유치원 교육담당자의 유아 구강보건의식과 행태에 관한 연구 (A study on the preschool children dental health awareness and behavior of the educators at the nurseries and kindergartens in Chungnam region)

  • Objectives : The oral care during early childhood plays an important role to maintain sound oral health during adulthood. As the number of children's using child care facilities is on the rise recently, the children's oral health awareness and behavior of the educators at nurseries and kindergartens are to be examined. Methods : A self-recording survey was conducted on 194 educators at the nurseries and kindergartens in Chungnam region. Results : The most frequently given snack was milk, 91.8 percent of the facilities had children brush their teeth, 63.4 percent made them apply fluoride and 56.2 percent kept children's toothbrushes in an ultraviolet rays sterilizer. There was a meaningful difference in the awareness of the necessity to educate children about oral health according to the offer of the opportunity to apply fluoride (p<0.05). A meaningful difference was found in the recognition of the necessity to educate children according to their grade (p<0.05) and to train teachers themselves (p<0.05). The most desirable persons in charge of oral health education were dentists in health centers (46.9%) in order. The more experience in teaching they have had (p<0.05), when they're married (50.5%) (p<0.05) and when they're not homeroom teachers (52.6 percent), the more regular checkups they have had (p<0.05). As for the importance of oral health and the results of regular checkups, those who had answered 'very important'(42.4%) showed higher rate of regular checkup (p<0.05) than those who had answered 'important'(23.9%). When teachers have the experience to get trained about oral care (96.3%), the practice frequency of brushing teeth was proved to become higher (p<0.05). Conclusions : The educators for children should recognize the importance of oral health education, educate children to practice oral health care, and the environment and systematic foundation should be established which the educators manage effectively.

주변환경 변화에 따른 어린이공원 이용 활성화방안 - 대전시 서구 어린이공원을 중심으로 - (A Study on the Revitalization of Children's Parks by the Transition of the Surrounding Environment in Seogu, Daejeon)

  • This study is targeted on children's parks in Seogu, Daejeon with the goal of maximizing the usage and versatility of existing parks in the area by the survey and analysis of the general status of children's parks, land use near the parks, population, users, and traits of usage. For the purposes of this thesis this study has selected 65 of the children's parks in the Seogu District to monitor. It also focused on a number of these parks located in areas which underwent a lot of changes and needed an increase in usage and versatility. Based on the selection criteria, the four target parks, Wojeong, Meongwhack, Dosan and Wicdunjimi children's park were selected. The Survey shows that 55.9% of park visitors visited a park to 'rest and take a walk' and used 'main facilities' meaning resting facilities like pergola and benches. In the nighttime, the number of park visitors is so few because of safety problems. 50% of users were satisfied with parks. It shows that there are many respondents who want to recompose these parks as places for light exercise, resting, meeting, and as community symbols. Generally, these target parks don't reach their full potential and they also do not play their proper roles because they are hampered by the constriction of the law. These stick to an outdated idea of what a park should be like without considering the actual and practical needs of city dwellers. When it comes to the remodeling and refurbishing of these parks we have to rethink the planning process so that these parks may be more versatile and practical in order to accommodate the radical changes of users and patterns of usage.

초등학교 설계를 위한 디자인게임 방법에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Design Gaming Method for a Designing the Elementary School -Focused on Students' Preference of Physical Environments-)

  • The purpose of the study was to determine the way to improve the school environments especially focused on the elementary school through design gaming with children. Main purpose of the study was to establish the method to find how children experience school environments and the way to find their needs, feelings, and desires of the school facilities. The methods which have been used are design gaming consisted of picture card game, drawing favorable and unfavorable places, and making the wish list. 46 children in Seoul area participated in the study. The main physical environments which have been focused in the study are as follows; the type of classroom, atmosphere of library, indoor and outdoor leisure activity space, indoor and outdoor play area, and the pedestrian way from home to school and from school towards home. Quantitative and qualitative analysis were used to attempt to develop children's preference of each place and their wish about school environments. The results have been summarized based on the general preferences and differences of favorite and unfavorite places. The differences between grades and gender have also been discussed focused on the picture game and drawings of favorite and unfavorite places.

통합놀이터 계획 및 설계 - 서울어린이대공원 내 꿈틀꿈틀놀이터를 대상으로 - (A Case Study of Kkumtle-Kkumtle Playground in Seoul Children's Grand Park)

  • 본 연구는 놀이터의 양적, 질적 발전은 이루고 있으나, 장애어린이들에 대한 관심은 부족하다는 문제 인식에서 시작했고, 대안으로써 장애인과 비장애인의 사회적 통합을 추구하는 통합놀이터를 제시했다. 이론연구와 장애어린이들의 놀이와 직접적 관련을 갖는 여러 주체들과의 면담을 종합해 통합놀이터에 대한 개념을 정립했고, 사례로써 2015년 12월에 완공된 서울어린이대공원 내 꿈틀꿈틀놀이터의 조성과정을 다루었다. 본 연구에서 정립한 통합놀이터의 개념은 '1. 장애인용 놀이터가 아닌 장애어린이와 비장애어린이가 함께 놀 수 있는 놀이터, 2. 장애어린이뿐만 아니라, 장애어린이와 동행한 가족, 비장애어린이와 동행한 장애인가족이 함께 즐길 수 있는 놀이터, 3. 놀이시설을 포함해 전체 공간에 대한 장애인의 접근을 보장하는 놀이터, 4. 놀이터의 가장 중요한 기능인 재미, 호기심, 모험심을 놀이 활동의 중심에 두는 놀이터'이다. 결론에서는 설계에 있어서의 한계와 개선 방안, 사회적 확산을 위한 정책적 제안을 제시했다. 설계에 있어서의 한계를 극복할 수 있는 개선방안은 세 가지이다. 첫 번째는 장애 형태별 놀이 특성에 대한 깊이 있는 연구가 필요하다는 것이다. 두 번째는 다양한 사회적 실험을 통해 우리나라 실정에 맞는 시설물 개발이 필요하다는 것이다. 세 번째는 본 연구에서 시설물 중심의 통합놀이터가 제시되었다고 한다면 이후에는 다양한 형태로 통합놀이터가 구현되어야 한다는 것이다. 정책적 제안은 세 가지로 '1. 여러 관련법 간의 상충 해결, 2. 장애어린이들의 이용이라는 측면에서 "어린이 놀이시설 안전관리법"의 안전 기준 재검토, 3. 통합놀이터 설치의 의무화'이다.

유아의 일상적 스트레스에 영향을 미치는 미시체계 변인 탐색 (An Analysis of Microsystem Variables Affecting Children's Daily Hassles)

  • The daily hassles of 5-year-old children were explored and analyzed as microsystems in order to discover the relative importance of ecological factors in children's daily hassles. The subjects were 322 children, their mothers and 34 teachers recruited from 5 kindergartens and 15 child-care centers in Seoul and Kyonggido province. Children were interviewed individually with pictures showing certain stressful situations. Questionnaires were administered to mothers and teachers. The findings indicated that the microsystem variables of Kindergartens and child-care centers were the most significant factors explaining children's daily hassles. Therefore, it was suggested that the policies and regulations on child-care facilities be carefully developed and strictly regulated.

저소득층 취업모 아동의 방과후 생활조사 (The Survey on the Low Income Children's After-School Care)

  • This study attempted to investigate the state of the children's after-school care with low income employed mothers. The survey was conducted by means of the structured questionnaire. The questionnaire was built on the previous studies. The sample size was 418 mothers in Pusan. The results were summarized as follows : 1. Most of the children with low class employed mothers showed the self-care state. 2. Most of the children with low class employed mothers were found to spend more time alone in their houses. 3. Most of the children with low class employed mothers tended to have more difficulties in getting contact with their mothers and they were left to prepare their foods by themselves. 4. Most of the low class employed mother thought that safer environment and better education were immediate problems to be solved for their children's. 5. Most of the low class employed mothers needed after-school care facilities.

  • 아동 관련 시설의 계획에서 의사소통 능력이 부족한 아동들은 주사용자인 자신들의 의견을 시설계획에 적극적으로 반영하는데 현실적인 어려움을 갖는다. 따라서 이러한 문제에 대한 보완장치로 환경 행태 연구 분야에서의 연구 결과들을 아동들을 위한 시설계획에 적극적으로 반영하려는 시도가 요구된다. 이에 본 연구는 아동기의 환경행태 관련 연구 결과들을 분석 정리하여 아동들을 위한 시설계획에 참고할 수 있는 계획 자료를 축적하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 다양한 주제로 연구되어 온 아동기 관련 환경 행태 이론들을 개인적 차원과 사회적 차원의 두 가지 특성으로 나누어 고찰하였다. 개인적 차원의 특성에서는 지각과 환경인지 2가지 영역에서의 발달 양상을 고찰하였다. 그리고 사회적 차원의 특성에서는 프라이버시, 개인공간, 영역성, 밀도 등의 4가지 영역에서 각 특성의 기능 및 정의, 그리고 아동관련 시설 및 물리적 환경에서의 적용양상 등을 고찰하였다.
