A child's mental health is an important element of his proper emotional development. Abuse of children by parents and peer groups are causes of depression and anxiety in children. These conditions become obstacles to their normal growth process which can be a contributing factor to juvenile delinquency. This study is based in the theoretical background of the relationship between abuse from parents and peer groups and children's emotional health. This information is analyzed through structural equation modeling.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy(ACT) on Complex PTSD symptoms, acceptance and post-traumatic growth of college students with childhood emotional abuse. Four hundred and fifty students in university completed Acceptance and action Questionnaire(AAQ-II), Structured interview for disorders of extrem stress(SIDES), Korea version posttraumatic growth inventory(K-PTGI). 14 participants was selected from that result. 7 participants were assigned to the ACT group and the others were in the control group. ACT program was administered for 8 sessions twice a week for 2 month, approximately 100 minutes. There was no treatment in the control group. All participants completed post-test at the end of treatment and then follow-up test after 6 weeks. The results were that complex PTSD symptoms level in ACT group was significant decreased and acceptance and post-traumatic growth level in ACT group were significant increased than those in control group at the end of treatment and the follow-up period. Finally, the implications and the limitations of this study, and the suggestions for future study were also discussed.

This dissertation analyzed the satisfaction of corrective counseling programs for Korean domestic violence offenders. I conducted a survey of Korean domestic violence offenders scattered throughout the country. The survey period was between Mar Feb. 20, 2006 and Apr. 29, 2006. The specific objects of the survey are the 250 domestic violence offenders who got counseling in the Goyang branch office of the Justice Ministry-affiliated Uijeongbu Probation & Parole Center, Ansan Citizen Welfare Society's domestic violence counseling center, Korea Domestic Violence Counseling Center Association, Korea Women's Hot Line, Korea Family Law Counseling Center and its branch offices throughout the country, and the counseling centers commissioned by the court for domestic violence offenders. The study was based on a poll on 182 of the 250 offenders. The research result includes: First, the satisfaction of corrective counseling programs for offenders varies depending upon the age, educational background, location, job, income, and childhood abuse of offenders. In particular, the less experience of childhood abuse leads to greater effect of education. Second, of the types of corrective counseling programs for offenders, the satisfaction for those in couple counseling is the greatest. This is because couple counseling is more influential than individual in the professional education that helps to share and understand couple problems.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to identify and prioritize sub-goals for infants and young children among the Korean Sustainable Development Goals (K-SDGs). Methods: The expert panel of this study consisted of 15 faculty members from the department of early childhood education or children's studies at 12 universities and was put together in order to conduct a Delphi survey. Results: As a result of the study, first, a total of 16 sub-goals were developed in order to target infants and young children. Second, the 16 sub-goals were then ranked according to their importance and urgency, and the most important goal were 'the improvement of mental health and prevention of drug abuse (K-SDG 3-2)'. And 'the elimination of violence and discrimination against girls (K-SDG 5-1, 5-2)', 'the safe and inclusive learning environment (K-SDG 4-8)' and 'end of abuse, trafficking, exploitation and all forms of violence against children (K-SDG 16-2)' were the next important and urgent goals. These priority objectives reflect the inviolable rights that infants and young children in Korea should be guaranteed by default. Conclusion/Implications: This study provided a basis for its effective implementation by identifying goals and priorities for infants and young children in comprehensive and interdependent K-SDGs.

Objectives : This study investigated lifetime experiences of trauma, treatment retention, and psychiatric symptoms among outpatients with panic disorder after initiation of pharmacotherapy. Our research hypothesis was that panic patients with childhood trauma would display more severe symptoms and less treatment retention compared to those without such history. Methods : A total of 135 first-visit outpatients with DSM-IV panic disorder were approached during the period from March 2012 to August 2016. Fifty-three patients (39%) either refused or returned incomplete questionnaires, leading to a final sample size of 82. Participants completed the Trauma History Screen, the Beck Depression Inventory, the Beck Anxiety Inventory, and the Abbreviated PTSD checklist. Results : The number of lifetime trauma was significantly correlated with treatment retention (rho=-0.269, p=0.015). Among subtypes of trauma, only childhood physical abuse was significantly correlated with treatment retention (rho=-0.298, p=0.007). Conclusions : Our results indicated that psychological trauma, particularly of an interpersonal nature from childhood, can affect pharmacotherapy treatment retention in panic disorder. This may be mediated by poor patient-doctor relationships originating from trust issues among childhood trauma survivors or lack of perceived improvement due to the more severe symptoms and unfavorable course experienced by those with childhood trauma. Further studies are needed to explore the reasons for poor treatment adherence in this population.
The purpose of this study was to confirm the characteristics of released prisoners through demographic and sociological variables and to investigate the effects of childhood traumatic experiences on family functioning and the mediating effects of anger expression method. For this purpose, Korea Rehabilitation Agency were selected and finally 400 released prisoners were analyzed. As a result, it appeared that anger expression method played a role of mediating variable when childhood trauma experience affects family functioning. Childhood trauma experience not only directly affects family functioning, but indirectly affects family functioning through anger expression method and the anger expression method played a role as partial mediating variable. Based on the results of this study, we emphasized the need for intervention and education for anger expression method in psychological counseling interventions to improve family functioning as a way to suppress the second offense of released prisoners with childhood abuse experience.

In the past, in Korea, women often played the role of caring for their children, and women's participation in social activities was small. However, in recent years, more and more cases are entrusted to specialized institutions and teachers for infant education. These changes are positive in terms of gender equality and the enhancement of women's rights, but the burden on specialized institutions and teachers for infants and young children is increasing. The problems of abuse in early childhood education institutions that have recently appeared in Korea are emerging as a new social problem. This study attempted to understand which factors should be managed in order to be respected for the rights of children, and categorized the educational environment into psychological, work, and social factors to examine their influence and provide meaningful implications.

Purpose: Domestic violence is an important issue encountered in nurses' home visitation programs. This study analyzed the types of domestic violence and associated interventions provided by nurses in a prenatal and early childhood home visitation program in Korea. Methods: For 24 families who experienced domestic violence in the Seoul Healthy First Step Project, registration information and home visit nursing records were analyzed through directed qualitative content analysis. Results: Physical violence was found in all 24 cases, followed by emotional violence, coercive control, financial abuse, and sexual violence. Twenty-two interventions derived from existing nurse-family partnership (NFP) program strategies were identified in the nursing practices of the Seoul Healthy First Step Project. Conclusion: In a prenatal and early childhood nurses' home visitation program in Korea, various approaches and interventions were provided to nurses to address domestic violence. However, differences in the level of interventions provided by nurses were found, implying a need to educate and support nurses to address domestic violence in-home visitation programs.
This study investigated subtypes of men who batter, and explored the differences among them. It was based on 217 subjects from all around the nation who received legal punishment. In the analysis of the typology, we specifically tested whether the Holtzworth-Munroe and Stuart proposed typology was verified. The results of the cluster analysis revealed support for their theoretical distinction for three types of abusers. These results imply that Holtzworth-Munroe and Stuart's batterer typology is applicable to Korean batterers to some degree. Type 1 men demonstrated the lowest levels of physical and psychological abuse toward their wives and were the least likely to have had a history of child abuse or alcohol problems. These men had lower MCMI scores and did not show any extraordinary personality traits. Men in this category were violent only against their wives, had relatively liberal sex role attitudes and had the most satisfaction in their intimate relationships. Type 2 men were violent only at home, using a moderate level of violence. These men had very high levels of dependency on others and showed a borderline, avoident or passive-aggressive personality. The amount of alcohol consumption was similar to Type 1, but scores of jealousy, self-esteem, and attitudinal variables were similar to Type 3 men. They lacked assertiveness skills and reported the least marital satisfaction. Type 3 men used the most severe violence and were violent both inside and outside the home. These men showed signs of antisocial and aggressive personality. They had experienced frequent physical abuse during childhood, were the most likely to abuse alcohol and had lower self-control. Type 3 were the most traditional in their views of women's roles and had attitudes supporting violence. Based upon the study findings, practical implications of enhancing treatment efficacy were considered.
Disorder of Extreme Stress, Not Otherwise Specified (DESNOS) is the proposed diagnosis that meets the severe, complex, and prolonged psychological sequela of victims with chronic traumatization (e.g., family violence, incest, and childhood sexual or physical abuse). The hallmarks of DESNOS are a multiplicity of symptoms (e.g., somatization, dissociation, and depression), pathological changes in relationships, identity disturbances, and a propensity to experience repeated harm and injury at the hands of oneself and others. DESNOS can be directly assessed by Structured Interview of Disorder of Extreme Stress (SIDES) and Self- Report Inventory of Disorder of Extreme Stress (SIDES-SR). The treatment of DESNOS should be phaseoriented and involve movement back and forth among three basic stages : 1) stabilization ; 2) trauma processing ; 3) reintegration.
