  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of storytelling lessons using picture books on the resilience of adolescents and the parent-child relationships in the family unit of home economics subject in middle school. For this purpose, I selected picture books of five themes on family type, family relationship, family conflict, sexual violence, domestic violence, and family loss, and developed a teaching-learning process plan for 'Family class with picture book' using storytelling elements and techniques. The teaching-learning plan was applied to 194 middle school students in technology·home economics classes, and the learning effet was evaluated by comparing pre- and post-tests. As a result, the resilience level perceived by adolescents increased significantly after class, but no significant effect was found on self-expansion, which is a sub-factor of sociality. In the parent-child relationship of adolescents, the effect of instruction was shown in all areas, and the affectional bonds felt in the relationship with mother than with father showed higher increase. In the family unit of home economics, storytelling lesson through picture book seems to have a positive influence on the adolescents in their relationship with the family by bringing up the potential power in them to stand against the adversities they may face.

  • Purpose The purpose of this study was to confirm the relationship between dietary self-efficacy, physical self-efficacy, and parental rearing attitudes considering obese children from the vulnerable class that utilized Community Child Care (CCC) centers. Methods In this study, sampling was conducted and 126 children from the vulnerable class who visited 11 regional children's centers located in A city, K province were chosen. The collected data was analyzed using t-test and ANOVA using the SPSS Window 22.0. The Pearson's Correlation coefficient was determined through multiple regression analysis. Results Obesity factors of vulnerable children included dietary efficacy, parents' parenting attitude, family type, single-parent family, parental obesity. Parental obesity held the greatest explanatory power of these variables, as 32% of the vulnerable children had at least one obese parent. Conclusion It is suggested that it is necessary to develop a nursing intervention strategy in which children and parents can participate in consideration of the environmental factors, such as parental attitude and family type of vulnerable children visiting Community Child Care (CCC) centers in the future.

  • This study aims to examine the effect of child-centered group play therapy on the improvement of withdrawn preschool children's daily stress, anxiety, peer interaction and EEG variation. The research subjects are 12 children of 3-5 years of age who are over 65T in the social-withdrawal scale of KPRC(Korean Personality Rating Scale for Children). They were recommended by class teachers due to the withdrawal behavior at D kindergarten in Seoul. The experimental group received 12 sessions of the child-centered group play therapy program, twice a week for 35 minutes. But the control group did not receive any of the child-centered group play therapy program. To verify the effects of the program, a Mann-Whitney-U test of the non-parametric was preceded and homogeneity between the two groups was verified. Also, a Wilcoxon's signed-rank test was conducted to check on the pre-to-post changes of daily stress, anxiety, peer-interaction and EEG variation by using SPSS 18.0. The results of this research showed that the child-centered group play therapy program decreases daily stress and anxiety, while it increases positive peer-interaction and the EQ of withdrawal children. The result of this study serves as a baseline data about the effects of child-centered group play therapy for withdrawal children with emotional difficulties.

The first group was an experimental group (boy=12, girl=13) who participated in the Korean dance class and the other group was a comparative group (boy=11, girl=14). Experiments were performed during 18 sessions for 9 weeks. The study findings are as follows. First, physical activities using Korean dance had positive effects upon the development of basic motor abilities in young children. In terms of these basic motor abilities, movement motor ability and whole muscle operation motor ability showed significant differences between the pre-test and post-test stage in the experiment group and between the experimental and comparative groups in the post-test stage. On the other hand, in terms of non-movement motor abilities, there was a significant difference between the pre- and post-test stages for the experimental group, but no significant difference in the post-test stage for the experimental or comparative groups. Second, physical activities using Korean dance had positive effects upon the development of perceptive motor abilities in young children. In other words, in the sub-variables of perceptive motor abilities, there were significant differences between the pre- and post-test stages of the experimental group which experienced physical activities using Korean dance. In conclusion, the study findings showed that physical activities using Korean dance had positive effects upon the increase of both basic motor abilities and perceptive motor abilities in young children. Additionally, the experimental group exhibited more positive effects in the various areas of motor abilities than the comparative group.

The subjects included students attending a girls' and a boys' middle school in Gongju City. Random sampling was used to pick a class from each of the three grades in the schools. 233 students, who's both parents were living, were used in the final analysis in an effort to examine the impacts of student communication with parents on student satisfaction with their friends. The findings were as follows: the subjects most often used the yielding type of conflict-resolving strategy, followed by the cooperating, compromising, dominating, and avoiding strategy-type. The girls showed a higher level of parent-child communication than the boys. Girls had high self-esteem and mostly adopted the cooperating type of conflict-resolving strategies, followed by the yielding, compromising, dominating and avoiding strategy-type. The boys mostly employed the yielding strategy type followed by the cooperating, compromising, dominating, and avoiding strategy-types. The results indicate that the satisfaction level with friends was high among those who used the avoiding strategy-type less and yielding strategy-type more. Girls were found to have high self-esteem and engaged in communication with their parents. The compromising, cooperating, and dominating types of conflict-resolving strategies did not exercise significant influences on their satisfaction with friends.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors associated with instrumental support (i.e., economic and practical support) from parents to their adult children. We examined both parents' attitudes toward instrumental support for adult children and parents' actual provision of instrumental support. From the data of the 2010 second National Survey of Korean Families, we selected 532 mothers and 524 fathers who were married and had at least one adult child aged over 25. Multiple regression analyses by the parents' gender showed that fathers were more likely to agree with instrumental support for adult children in general when they had unmarried children, had a lower household income level, had a lower evaluation of their socio-economic class, were satisfied with their own household economic situation, had positive attitudes toward caregiving for elderly parents, and were satisfied with their couple relationships. For mothers, they were more likely to agree with instrumental support for adult children in general when they had positive attitudes toward caregiving for elderly parents, were satisfied with their couple relationships, and perceived their child as someone to rely on in times of difficulties. Our analyses of the actual provision of support indicated that fathers tended to provide more support when they perceived that they were healthy, had unmarried children, were less satisfied with their household economic situation, had negative attitudes toward child-rearing, and reported a higher quality of parent-child relationship. For mothers, they were more likely to provide actual support when they were healthy, had unmarried children, had a higher level of household income, were financially preparing for later life, and less satisfied with their couple relationships. The findings of this study imply that it is imperative to distinguish the attitudes toward support from the actual provision of support and to also consider parents' gender in the literature on instrumental support for adult children.
