The Relationship between Personality and Child Rearing Stress of Employed Mothers (취업모의 성격특성과 자녀 양육스트레스와의 관계)

  • The purpose of the current study is to examine the role of mothers' personality traits in predicting their parenting stress. The study subjects were married working woman who live at Gyeonggi-do and has their first child studying in elementary, middle, or high school. Collected data were analyzed with SPSS WIN 18.0 program. The results were as follows.: First, it has been shown through examination of the general tendency of observation subjects' relative factor, that many have above average parenting stress. The compositing factor for parenting stress were mainly the burden and distress of the parent role. Second, the differences in parenting stress were affected by relative variables in accordance with the general features of the study object. If the younger the parent, the higher the education, the lower the age of the first child, and if there were a child assistant after school, the parenting stress became larger. Third, after controlling for demographic characteristics, employed mothers' neuroticism significantly predicted greater parenting stress. When mothers had more conscientiousness and openness, they reported less parenting stress which implied that interpretation and perception of child rearing experiences can vary depending on personality and predict parenting stress of working mothers.

An Exploratory Study on Child Rearing Grandmothers: Based on the Interview of Grandmothers and Mothers (외조모의 손자녀 양육지원에 관한 탐색적 연구: 외조모와 어머니의 보고 중심으로)

  • Objective: The purpose this study is to explore the relationship between grandmothers and mothers when grandmothers take care of their grandchildren, and to understand the particular meaning of it. Methods: The Participants were 5 grandmothers who have supported or have experience in caring for their grandchildren, and their daughters(5 working mothers) who have entrusted their children to them. In-depth interviews were conducted and analysed by the phenomenological qualitative research method. Results: Seventeen sub-constructs and 5 constructs resulted in: (1) Motivation of grandmothers and mothers for taking care of grandchildren. (2) Pressure of grandmothers and satisfaction of mothers for the support. (3) Grandmothers stepping back and saying 'Not my child' and mothers saying 'It's my child' and thinking their influence is big. (4) Consistent sacrifice of grandmothers and mothers who cannot do the same. (5) Grandmothers feeling empty after caring for their grandchildren and mothers realizing their efforts. Conclusion/Implications: This study attempted to understand the relationship between grandmothers and mothers when grandmothers take care of their grandchildren from multi-perspectives. Through the findings, the need for developing healthy relationships and a caring environment for grandmothers and their grandchildren is stressed.

The Influence of the Reading Motivation of Mothers with Three to Five Year Old Children on the Home Literacy Environment (유아기 자녀를 둔 어머니의 읽기동기가 가정문해환경에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, we examined the effects of a mother's reading motivation on the home literacy environment. Seven hundred fifty-seven mothers with three to five year old children participated in this study and completed the Adult Motivation for Reading Scale and the Home Literacy Environment Questionnaire. The subcategories of the Adult Motivation for Reading Scale are "reading as part of self," "reading efficacy," "reading for recognition," and "reading to do well in other realms." The Home Literacy Environment Questionnaire has three subcategories, namely reading books, reading behavior and modeling of parents, and literacy learning. The mean, standard deviation, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and hierarchical multiple regression analysis were used to analyze the data. The results showed that (1) the home literacy environment was significantly different depending on the mother's education and family income levels, (2) the mother's reading motivation also differed significantly depending on the mother's education and family income levels, and (3) the mother's reading motivation has a significant explanatory effect on the home literacy environment. In addition, the mothers falling into the reading motivation subcategories of "reading part of self" or "reading to do well in other realms" were found to enrich their home literacy environment. Therefore, this study demonstrates that the mother's reading motivation is an important factor affecting the home literacy environment.

Effects of Family Environment, Shame and Guilt Proneness on Parentification of Male and Female Juveniles (가정환경과 수치심, 죄책감이 남녀 청소년의 부모화에 미치는 영향)

  • This study attempted to examine the differences between male and female juveniles from the perspective of the parentification and to discover if the differences in the effects of shame and guilt proneness on the parentification of juveniles according to gender were observed under the control of negative family environment variables. With this purpose in mind, the researcher measured negative family environments, and the shame proneness, guilt proneness, and parentification of 225 male and 243 female students in middle schools in Seoul. The results indicate that there were differences in the levels of parentification according to gender male juveniles showed higher levels of parentification than female juveniles. In addition, after negative family environment variables were under control, both shame proneness and guilt proneness effected the parentification. Furthermore, while the effects were different according to gender, guilt proneness had a significant effect on parentification for males and shame proneness had a significant effect on the parentification for females. In conclusion, it was suggested that female's parentification as effected by shame proneness nees to be be noted although male juveniles showed higher levels of the parentification.

The Relationship between Childhood and Collegehood Place Attachment to Home Environment for College Students 1) (대학생의 아동기 집과 현재 집에 대한 장소애착의 관련성)

  • This study explored Korean college students' place attachment to current home environments and their place attachment to childhood home environments. The study sought to confirm the relationship between childhood place attachment and collegehood place attachment to home environment. Data were collected from 336 students at four universities in Jellabuk-Do, Korea, and questionnaire survey was performed. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was computed and showed five factors related to place attachment of home environment. Place intimacy, rootedness, place identity, place dependence, and place palyness showed in childhood place attachment to home; place identity, place affection, place restfulness, place dependence, and rootedness in collegehood place attachment to home. Canonical correlation analysis showed that childhood place attachment to home explained 43.9% variance with regard to collegehood place attachment to home. This relationship implied that childhood place attachment strongly affected subsequent collegehood place attachment.

The Relationships Among Home Environment, Locus of Control, Social Supports, and Behavior Problems of Korean-Chinese Children in Yanbian (연변 조선족 아동의 가정환경, 내외통제성, 사회적 지지 및 행동문제간의 관계)

  • This study was designed to examine the relations of home environment, locus of control, social support and behavior problems of fourth-grade Korean-Chinese children in Yanbian in China. The subjects were 190 children who completed the locus of control and social support scale and their parents who completed the Child Behavior Checklist. T-test, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analyses were conducted. Mother's education level, and psychological and physical environment at home were negatively related to children's behavior problems. The scores of internal locus of control and support from the teacher were negatively related to children's behavioral disturbances. The factors with the greatest contribution to explaining behavior problems of Korean-Chinese children in Yanbian were found to be physical environment at home, internal locus of control, and teacher's social support.

Case Analysis of Japanese Excellent Rural Housing for Improvement of Settlement Environment in Agricultural Region (농촌지역의 정주환경 개선을 위한 일본우량전원주택 사례분석 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to suggest a implication and improvement which can provide direction when proposing prospective housing policies which comply the peculiar and changing needs of rural communities. Method: Accordingly this study reviewed for rural housing regulations and policies that appear in the process of developing Japanese Excellent Rural Housing. According to the case study, municipal organizations have implemented independent housing programs base on the Promotion of Rural Residence Act for returning farmers. Result: They provide service to provide returning farmers comprehensive counseling and information about employment, child-rearing and education, housing, and etc. The service program is run by a cooperative way. In addition the Japanese Excellent Rural Housing projects nowadays focus on promoting voluntary establishments of local communities by providing comprehensive plans for local community formation and interaction for harmony between existing residents and returning farmers. In the case of Korea, targeting existing residents and returning farmers for settlement environment in rural areas need jobs, child care, education, and comprehensive housing counseling. In addition, this suggests the need for linkages between the various community programs and residents.

The Study of Health Concept and Health Behaviors in School Children (학령기 아동의 건강에 대한 의미와 건강행위 탐색)

  • Purpose: To analyze the health concept and health behaviors in school children through the interview on study groups. To obtain the subjective data for health concept and health behaviors in school children. Methods: This study is a qualitative study applied the interview of study groups. Participants are 12 people and two groups- each of them is 3 males and females, which are $6^{th}$grade of elementary schools located in Seoul city and Kyung-gi Province. The interviews were conducted twice on November in 2005. Results: 83 items are significantly related in health concept for school children. The results are the following; 1) the significant health concept for school children is 15 items and there are 5 areas- strength, comfort, action, compatibility and normal life. 2) the actual health behaviors are 23 items and there are 8 areas-exercising, associating, mentally resting, laughing, releasing stress, well sleeping, well eating and receivingcheck-up. 3) the needed and the wanted health behaviors are 45 items and there are 12 areas-well eating, well cleaning, exercising, playing, comforting, resting, staying in familiar environment, receiving regular check-up, abstaining, associating, enjoying hobbies, and forming environment & facilities. Conclusion: For health concepts, school children consider significantly not only physical activities but also social and mental activities and environment. They also want exercising, abstaining, eating well, checking-up, enjoying hobbies, forming environment & facilities with various activities.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate how environment-friendly activities through nature affects attitude of children. 5-6 years old children were targeted for study from March to December, 2014. Rapid changes of modern society made increase of female workers and their participation rates in economic activity which results children to play more time with artificial toys and media. There are 3 stages to investigate effects. $1^{st}$ stage is to know about woods by visiting woods and experience environment-friendly activity. $2^{nd}$ stage is to experience woods with 5 senses not only in real woods but also in classroom. Lastly $3^{rd}$ stage is to make art work with natural object and make woods in classroom. Changes of hildren's attitude and view toward to the nature were recorded and analyzed by anecdotes perpetual inventory and environment-friendly attitude examination. By analysis of infant gives you the opportunity to encounter nature, often in conjunction with ongoing enjoys nature-friendly program in the classroom to play with toys, rather than a complete natural objects gradually formalized when presenting a natural, concentrated than the previous game this time is enhanced and creativity through nature through the promotion doeeojim and attitude to nature is also eco-friendly activities byeonhwadoem program showed that the impact on the attitude of the infant.

Influence of the perceived educational environment on future career planning among nursing students in Egypt

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine attitudes and knowledge regarding career planning after graduation, as well as the perceived educational environment of a pediatric clinical course, among nursing students at Menoufia University in Egypt. This study also investigated the influence of the perceived educational environment on future career planning among nursing students. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was used, with a structured interview questionnaire that included demographic characteristics, a section that measured students' attitudes and knowledge toward their career planning, and the Dundee Ready Educational Environment Measure Scale (DREEM). Results: The mean total score for the DREEM scale was 109.61, and most students perceived many areas within the program as more positive than negative. However, they had low levels of knowledge regarding career planning. Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, further efforts should be made to stimulate students' interest in pediatric nursing, to integrate theoretical content with practice, and to improve their planning activities early during their study. It is important to engage students in discussions concerning their ideas and worries about factors they perceive as less enhancing and more threatening in clinical settings.
