An electrochromatographic microchip with carboxyl-group-derivatized mono-disperse silica packing was prepared from the corresponding colloidal silica solution by utilizing capillary action and self-assembly behavior. The silica beads in water were primed by the capillary action toward the ends of cross-patterned microchannel on a cyclic olefinic copolymer (COC) substrate. Slow evaporation of water at the front of packing promoted the self-assembled packing of the beads. After thermally binding a cover plate on the chip substrate, reservoirs for sample solutions were fabricated at the ends of the microchannel. The packing at the entrances of the microchannel was silver coated to fix utilizing an electroless silver-plating technique to prevent the erosion of the packed structure caused by the sudden switching of a high voltage DC power source. The electrochromatographic behavior of the microchip was explored and compared to that of the microchip with bare silica packing in basic borate buffer. Electrophoretic migration of Rhodamine B was dominant in the microchip with the carboxyl-derivatized silica packing that resulted in a migration approximated twice as fast, while the reversible adsorption was dominant in the bare silica-packed microchip. Not only the faster migration rates of the negatively charged FITC-derivatives of amino acids but also the different migration due to the charge interaction at the packing surface were observed. The electrochromatographic characteristics were studied in detail and compared with those of the bare silica packed microchip in terms of the packing material, the separation potential, pH of the running buffer, and also the separation channel length.

In this study, we observed current-voltage characteristics of the MIM (metal-insulator-metal) structure. The $WO_x$ material was used between metal electrodes as the oxide insulator. The structure of the $Al/WO_x/TiN$ shows bipolar resistive switching and the operating direction of the resistive switching is clockwise, which means set at negative voltage and reset at positive voltage. The set process from HRS (high resistance state) to LRS (low resistance state) occurred at -2.6V. The reset process from LRS to HRS occurred at 2.78V. The on/off current ratio was about 10 and resistive switching was performed for 5 cycles in the endurance characteristics. With consecutive switching cycles, the stable $V_{set}$ and $V_{reset}$ were observed. The electrical transport mechanism of the device was based on the migration of oxygen ions and the current-voltage curve is following (Ohm's Law ${\rightarrow}$ Trap-Controlled Space Charge Limited Current ${\rightarrow}$ Ohm's Law) process in the positive voltage region.

Concrete behavior in early-age is changing due to hydration reaction with time, and a resistance to chloride attack and strength development are different characterized. In the present work, changing strength and resistance to chloride attack are evaluated with ages from 28 days to 6 months. For the purpose, strength, diffusion coefficient, and passed charge are evaluated for normal concrete with 3 different mix proportions considering 28-day and 6-month curing conditions. With increasing concrete age, the changing ratio of strength falls on the level of 135.3~138.3%, while diffusion coefficient and passed charge shows 41.8%~51.1% and 53.6%~70.0%, respectively. The results of chloride diffusion coefficient and passed charge show relatively similar changing ratios since they are much dependent on the chloride migration velocity in electrical field. The changing ratios in chloride behaviors are evaluated to be much larger than those in compressive strength since the ion transport mechanism is proportional to not porosity but square of porosity.
The origin of barriers to internal rotation of hydrogen peroxide and ethane is investigated by using the concept of Bonding and Antibonding Regions. The strong bond formations between the axial and end atoms on the same side make the real charge densities in these molecules less dependent on conformations than those in the hypothetical molecules having no axial atoms. Thus, the existence of the axial atoms should induce the migration of the transition density from the Bonding region to the Antibonding region. Barrier to internal rotation can be understood in terms of this migration of the transition density to such an extent that the change in nuclear-nuclear repulsion energy becomes the dominating part of the total perturbation energy.

In fusion environments, large scales of helium (He) atoms are produced by a radical transformation along with structural damage in structural materials, resulting in material swelling and degradation of physical properties. To understand its irradiation effects, this paper investigates the stability, electronic structure, energetics, charge density distribution, PDOS and TDOS, and diffusion processes of He impurities in 6HSiC materials. The formation energy indicates that a stable, favorable position for interstitial He is the HR site with the lowest energy of 2.40 eV. In terms of vacancy, the He atom initially prefers to substitute at pre-existing Si vacancy than C vacancy due to lower substitution energy. The minimum energy paths (MEPs) with migration energy barriers are also calculated for He impurity by interstitial and vacancy-mediated diffusion. Based on its calculated energy barriers, the most possible diffusion path includes the exchange of interstitial and vacancy sites with effective migration energies ranging from 0.101 eV to 1.0 eV. Our calculation provides a better understanding of the stabilization and diffusion behaviors of He impurities in 6H-SiC materials.

Calcia (CaO) stabilized cubic-$HfO_2$ is studied by density functional theory (DFT) with generalized gradient approximation (GGA). When a Ca atom is substituted for a Hf atom, an oxygen vacancy is produced to satisfy the charge neutrality. The lattice parameter of a $2{\times}2{\times}2$ cubic $HfO_2$ supercell then increases by $0.02\;{\AA}$. The oxygen atoms closest to the oxygen vacancy are attracted to the vacancy as the vacancy is positive compared to the oxygen ion. When the oxygen vacancy is located at the site closest to the Ca atom, the total energy of $HfO_2$ reaches its minimum. The energy barriers for the migration of the oxygen vacancy were calculated. The energy barriers between the first and the second nearest sites, the second and the third nearest sites, and the third and fourth nearest sites are 0.2, 0.5, and 0.24 eV, respectively. The oxygen vacancies at the third and fourth nearest sites relative to the Ca atom represent the oxygen vacancies in undoped $HfO_2$. Therefore, the energy barrier for oxygen migration in the $HfO_2$ gate dielectric is 0.24 eV, which can explain the origin of gate dielectric leakage.

Information systems in current corporations are managing and storing large data officially happened on individual and various databases. Corporations for migrating the stored data from these individual databases are adopting with technologies of EAI, MDR, DW etc.. However these technologies are not only required to expenses introduction charge and maintenance cost but also have problems of heterogeneous environment required per each vender In this paper, to solve problems of these current existing technologies, we propose to design our data migration system to migrate source data and semantic constraint condition between heterogeneous relation databases based on web service. As corporations use web services, they can reduce introduction expense and maintenance cost because of using current existent web environment. Each system can independently migrate XML based data against any platform, system environment, and Implementation language.

Ion exchange is a chemical reaction between the ions in solution phase and ions in solid phase and is widely used in softening, demineralization, removal and collection of specific ions, and ion migration in the ground water. The ion selectivity depends on the charge and the hydrated radius of ion. The objective of this study was to examine the applicability of anion selectivity obtained from the ion exchange equilibrium OH/sup -/ < F/sup -/ < HCO/sup -/ < Cl/sup -/ < Br/sup -/ ≤ NO₃/sup -/ < SO₄/sup 2-/ to the column ion exchange. The column ion exchange was facilitated in the lower charge of counter-ion in the background electrolyte.
In lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries, encapsulation of sulfur in activated carbon (AC) materials is a promising strategy for preventing the dissolution of lithium polysulfide into electrolytes and enhancing cycle life, because instead of solid-liquid-solid reactions, quasi-solid-state (QSS) reactions occur in the AC micropores. While a high weight fraction of sulfur in S/AC composites is essential for achieving a high energy density of Li-S cells, the deterioration mechanisms under such conditions are still unclear. In this study, we report the deterioration mechanisms during charge-discharge cycling when the discharge products overflow from the AC. Analysis using scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry confirms that the sulfur in the S/AC composites migrates outside the AC as cycling progresses, and it is barely present in the AC after 20 cycles, which corresponds to the capacity decay of the cell. Impedance analysis clearly shows that the electrical resistance of the S/AC composite and the charge-transfer resistance of QSS reactions significantly increase as a result of sulfur migration. On the other hand, the charge-discharge cycling performance under limited-capacity conditions, where the discharge products are encapsulated inside the AC, is extremely stable. These results reveal the degradation mechanism of a Li-S cell with micro-porous carbon and provide crucial insights into the design of a S/AC composite cathode and its operating conditions needed to achieve stable cycling performance.
