This study aims to investigate the changes in the occupational structure of employment in Korea during the last three decades, in which have transformed from industrialized economy to knowledge-based economy very rapidly as well as having experiences of both IMF and financial crisis. For this purpose, we analyze the trends occupational distribution and the socio-demographic characteristics of the occupational structure of employment since 1980. By applying correspondence analysis of Multidimensional Scaling(MDS) methods, we examine the inter-relationships between the employed persons by occupation and their characteristics such as gender, age group, educational attainment, industry, region. We found the occupational structure of Korea has been changed dramatically with the socio-economic transformations during the last four decades. In particular, the occupational (job) structure has been highered in general. However, it has also been dualized extremely into two groups, one is the specialized-skilled-white color jobs and the other is the simple-unskilled-blue color jobs. The results of this study could be utilized as the importation basis for the provision of labour supply and employment policy plan at the national level as well as at the local level.
This article aims to analyze main features of activation policy and compare major programmes in terms of their impact on employment performances in Korea. Since the introduction of National Basic Living Security Act in 2000, a series of activation policies have been in place for social assistance recipients, low-income employees, and youth unemployed by means of providing tailored employment and social services via in-depth counselling and case management. These activation policies carry both enabling and demanding elements: requiring programme participation in exchange for public assistance benefit receipts on the one hand, and providing various social services to remove barriers to employment through case management on the other hand. Therefore, it merits attention to analyze how various features of activation programmes affect employment outcomes, the effectiveness of delivery system and policy instruments as well. In analyzing employment outcomes of activation policy of which main characteristics lie in provision of employment and social services, this article points out the features and policy instruments of the activation policy that contribute to labor market entry of public assistance recipients and low income employees. In addition, it also delineates the determinants of exit from benefit receipts. Results from statistical analysis show that activation policy with intense employment service helps both benefit recipients and low income employees enter into the labor market at a faster rate. However, tailored social service provision enables social assistance recipients to exit from benefit receipts. These results suggest theoretical and policy relevant implication in regards to redesigning the delivery mechanisms and service instruments of activation policy.
The purpose of this study is to investigate 1) the perception of special school teachers on the significant skills required by students with intellectual disabilities(ID) for gaining and maintaining employment. For this study, a mixed method design including quantitative survey method and qualitative in-depth interview were utilized. First, through quantitative survey method, the perception on significant skills of students with ID for gaining and maintaining employment was investigated. At the same time, to overcome the limitation of a quantitative survey study, in-depth interviews with special school teachers were implemented. Through in-depth interviews, difficulties keeping students with ID from maintaining employment and significant skills for gaining & maintaining employment were investigated. Many students with ID have had difficulties in maintaining their employment for reasons such as behavioral problems, lack of social skills, or lack of diligence. Thus, many special teachers perceived the importance of educating the significant skills for maintaining their employment as well as gaining employment. For successful vocational transition, daily living skills, occupational skills, and personnel-social skills are significant. However, students' personal-social skills are more important than daily living skills and occupational skills. Among personal-social skills, students' sincerity, diligence, good-hearted personality, social skills, and ability for following directions of a supervisor are significant characteristics for gaining and maintaining employment.
This study is analysing the factors determining individuals' behavior of selecting self-employment not only at the micro-level but also at the macro-level to put a particular emphasis on the financial constraint and unemployment rate representing business cycle. The data used in this study are "Korean Labor and Income Panal Study" of the Korea Labor Institute and "Economically Active Population Survey" of National Statistical Office. The main findings are as follows. First, human capital such as educational attainment and job experience has positive effects on male's selection of self-employment. The effects of job experience, however, changed negative for female's selection of self-employment. Second, real estate is significantly enhancing the selection probabilities of employer selection while the income from financial assets has negative effects. Third, entrepreneurial culture and environment are also raising the self-employment selection probability. Lastly, the regional unemployment rate representing the business cycle has positive effects on the self-employment selection after the financial crisis in 1997 both at the micro and macro level. Moreover, the coefficient of regional unemployment rate has changed positive in the structural model of self-employment selection controlling for selection bias and income opportunities, which means that individual's behavior of self-employment selection is rather complex when accounting for the uncertainties of income opportunities and diverse characteristics of self-employment workforce.

In particular, the purpose is to present student guidance plans for long-term service by analyzing personal reasons for students graduating from commercial high schools and policy factors for individual, school, company, and government service after employment. To this end, a survey was conducted for graduates of commercial high schools nationwide, and the validity, reliability, and causality of the survey data were analyzed by applying Exploratory Factor Analysis, Cronbach's Alpha, and decision tree analysis techniques. We found that personal goal setting for employment is an important factor for working for more than 1 year, personal relationships at work and personal characteristics are important factors for working for more than 3 years. In addition, we found that the reason for getting a job is that personal reasons and school recommendations are great, special lectures on employment, camps, and 'advice from seniors and teachers' programs are helpful in finding a job, and accounting and computer related subjects are helpful for long-term employment. The purpose of this study was to examine the general characteristics and the variety of family life experiences related to the life satisfaction of multicultural families with school-aged children. Data were drawn from the first wave of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey conducted in 2010 and developed by the National Youth Policy Institute. Further, the sample for this study consisted of 95 multicultural families who met the requirements. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, the t -test, analysis of variance, and multiple regression using SPSS ver. 18.0. The main results showed that family life experiences that were made up of 5 domains, specifically time, leisure, household economy, health, and child education had a broad range of levels. In addition, family life experiences differed according to the general characteristics of multicultural families with school-aged children, such as mother's employment status, number of children, father's employment status and education level, and family composition. Lastly, their life satisfaction was significantly predicted by the father's employment status and health, children's age, children's education, and leisure in the order of significance. These findings suggested the need to expand the social intervention range for multicultural families with school-aged children, particularly in terms of family leisure and children's school life adaptation.
This study looked for employment services satisfaction surveys done in the UK, USA and Korea. And through which derived the following suggestions for improving Korea the employment service satisfaction survey. First, in terms of research design improvements to ensure the representativeness of the sample region for each center and branch-specific (job seekers and recruiters) requires the sampling design based on user scale. In addition, the sample design should be applied when considering specific user can be distributed. US is restricted to participants within 60 days for sampling and sample extraction once a month at least. Next in terms of survey improvements, it is necessary to apply a weighting part considering the regional characteristics. For this, the correct analysis of the employment center by the internal and external environment is required. And in the case of non-face-to-face service, complaints about worknet use is likely to be channeled into complaints about job centers provide services. It needs to improve on this. And for the improvements of business processes service by an in-depth study, it can be seen to review the possible introduction of a British mystery shopper.

Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between employment status and the prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) for manufacturing and construction workers. Methods: Subjects, who had or have worked as temporary workers in manufacturing or construction worksites for the longest career years, were extracted from the KNHANES(2007-2009) database. Characteristics of demographical, socio-economic, and smoking history were treated as independent variables. Considering that smoking experience and age are significantly influential in the prevalence of COPD, logistic regressions were analyzed after stratifying subjects according to their smoking experience and age. A two-stage stratified systematic sampling method was applied for the logistic regression analysis. Results: Age, gender, and household income level were associated with the prevalence of COPD in both smoking and non-smoking groups. However, employment status was only significant among smoking group. Smoking experience and age were significantly related to the prevalence of COPD among all age groups. In addition, employment status and household income level were also associated with the prevalence of COPD in young aged group. But gender was the only significant factor among the elder group. Conclusions: This study confirmed that employment status was a major social factor which may be related to the prevalence of COPD. Proper supports such as providing safety measures should be provided to temporary workers to manage their respiratory health.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to confirm the relationship between socioeconomic characteristics and the prevalence of periodontal disease, with a focus on employment status, in a representative sample of Korean adults aged 19-39 years. Methods: Data were obtained from 3,178 adults who completed the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, health-related questionnaires, and an oral examination. Socioeconomic, demographic, and oral health-related behavior data were adopted as independent variables. The chi-square test was used to assess differences in the distribution of socioeconomic status, oral health behavior, and nutrition factors according to employment status. Logistic regression analysis was performed to confirm the relationships between the prevalence of periodontitis and the related variables. Results: Significant differences in sex, educational level, income, marital status, smoking status, prevalence of periodontitis, number of dental check-ups in a year, and unmet dental care were confirmed according to employment status. The prevalence of periodontal disease was not significantly related to employment status. Conclusions: These results suggest a significant difference in periodontal disease according to socioeconomic factors in Korean adults. However, the prevalence of periodontal disease was not related to employment status. To prevent the progression of periodontal disease, attention should be paid to oral health, time available for dental treatment, smoking cessation, and use of floss.
