  • The 1960s in Britain was the period of rapid economic and social change. Under this circumstance, the visionary architect Cedric Price designed the Fun Palace, of which idea came from the theatre producer, Joan Littlewood. They hoped this place to be an improvisational learning space, so Price proposed the building as 'kit of parts' which can respond to programmatic indeterminacy. Cybernetics was introduced to control this flexibility dramatically changed the character of the project from 'theatre of people' to 'interactive machine'. That resulted in the change of the status of user from subjective human beings to abstract data in the cybernetic algorithm as well, and led the project to a completely opposite direction from that Price intended. After Fun Palace, cybernetics technology could still be found in his other projects, and it can be assumed that this was because the algorithmic system of cybernetics were on the same line of thought of Price's idea - anti-building or 'kit of parts'. The effects of cybernetics varied in projects; Similar negative effect in Fun Palace can be found in Generator project, but on the other hand, in Potteries Thinkbelt project, cybernetics showed a positive aspect by contribution to the development of project on the formal analogy of algorithmic network.

  • Recently, a new paradigm for the change in recognition on educational spaces and their recycling has been spotlighting a concept of community school. However in Korea, there have been few changes in physical environment since the modern education started, due to the inconsistent educational policies and bungled administration. In contrast to Korea, Netherlands has been activating educational spaces to communicate with the local community, reacting to the change in several educational policies for the last 20 years. We, therefore, need to analyze the recent community school of Herman Hertzberger who starting with the Montessori School, came to the fore with a proposal of new relational educational spaces. For linking his relational architectural philosophy to the local community and community school, he applied it to a contact area. He then organized socially sustainable spaces to promote different acts to take place, laying stress on mutual forms and behaviors between spaces and spaces, spaces and people and people and people. In addition to a structural relation with the macroscopic community of architecture, he also created opened spaces, not those where are independent or disconnected, by encouraging users to meet and act in detailed components such as stairs, walls, windows and others. This study aims to consider how Hertzberger's various community spaces in the community school have been created after the 2000s and suggest design plans for educational spaces to communicate, according to the recent educational trend aspiring towards open education.

  • Artificial ground greening has been developed gradually in accordance with increasing demands of out-door space in Apartment complexes. Nowadays other social demand, environmental load abatement, needs qualitative growth of artificial ground greening as well as quantitative growth. So the objects of this study would be seizing and analyzing changeable items in artificial ground greening in the future, and show drafting materials for the development of spheres in connected with artificial ground greening. For this study, Delphi method was applied. First, three groups of panel, 48 people, were selected. Second, set up items of changes possible in the future from the first questionnaire and additional inquiry. Third, made up the second questionnaire of change possible in the future with Likert summated scale, and finally one way - ANOVA executed; independent variables were items of changes, and dependent variables were three groups of panel. To conclude, although limits of this study, we could glance over general flows and changes in artificial ground greening, and discover items which are hardly changeable and necessary to change in present condition of artificial ground greening.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships between apartment residents'satisfaction and preferences and their environments on purpose to provide useful data for developing new apartment environment based on resident's needs and wants. this research was executed through a questionnaire survey method. The major findings are as follows : (1) Preference of large space of apartment dwelling is still prevailing. The older people have the tendency to prefer orientation to vista. (2) Among environmental factors of livingroom, size is mostly ranked higher than vista and orientation. Result of higher ranking of vista than orientation can be explained with the change of life cycle and patterns based on social environmental change and development of environmental control systems. (3) The highest concern about interior design is targeted to livingroom, and quality of finish materials is preferred at the highest.

  • The presentation of the method by which the furniture and the architecture can be unified in one category, and the study and the verification on the mutual relation in the shape and the function are having been consistently made till the late twenties. The change of the social structure such as increasing the unit dwelling space with the small scale comes to need the efficiency in using space and the open dwelling space by the systematic spa-cial formation. Therefore, the understanding of the mean-ing and the characteristics of system furnitures as the design method which can meet such needs will be made here in this study. The application of the systematic consideration as the method of interior design means the formation of the firm image on the spacial environment through the mix-ture and link of the heterogeneous factors, the organic connection of each surface, the establishment of the natu-ral relation by linking the heterogeneous materials mutu-ally. and the easiness of the entire plan in the end. This study aims at analyzing and studying the typical charac-teristics by understanding the historical background and methodical principle which enabled the appearance of this kind of thought, and the adapted cases of the wood and metal material system furniture. There may be difference between the structural sub-stance and formative consideration. Transformative furni-ture which consists of the factors is the concept for the encrease of the multi purpose value by mixing the unit cabinets. One system can be separated horizontally, verti-cally, and to the drawers, and it gives us the disengage-ment from the artificial environment, since all the heights and width can be transformed as per each situa-tion of the space. The factors which can not be found in the other existing furniture are as follows. 1. disengagement from the artificial environment. 2. establishing the new productiosn trend as freed from the customers' fashion trend. 3. presenting the producing condition which leads the exact technology. 4. flexibility of the furniture which enables the reduction and enlargement in each situation.

  • The function and the role of school are changing according to various future-oriented education models such as open-ended learning cycle, community learning center, re-schooling, network system and de-schooling, which reflect recent social demands related to discussions on sustainability, low birth rate and ageing. what changes to our school buildings have been there? This study is aimed that shows the architectural change of school buildings and environments in 2000's. It reveals the architectural tendancy through some school buildings, 'the excellent facility school award' winner which Ministry of Education, Science and Technology have chosen annually since 1998. In the past decade, it is outstanding change that mass composition, window patterns and exterior wall materials are diversified greatly. The most of them have a opened main hall and multi-purpose spaces which give effective educational environment to students. Although visual changes are outstanding, we still need qualitative educational space program and improved school building design according to future-educational demands.

  • Recently, various graph data have been utilized in various fields such as social networks and citation networks. As the graph changes dynamically over time, it is necessary to manage the graph historical data for tracking changes and retrieving point-in-time graphs. Most historical data changes partially according to time, so unchanged data is stored redundantly when data is stored in units of time. In this paper, we propose a graph history storage management method to minimize the redundant storage of time graphs. The proposed method continuously detects the change of the graph and stores the overlapping subgraph in intersection snapshot. Intersection snapshots are connected by a number of delta snapshots to maintain change data over time. It improves space efficiency by collectively managing overlapping data stored in intersection snapshots. We also linked intersection snapshots and delta snapshots to retrieval the graph at that point in time. Various performance evaluations are performed to show the superiority of the proposed scheme.

  • The school complex project is driven by public calling for school facilities change due to the social change followed by the aging society and increasing interest in the lifelong education. The school complex project is defined as an activity in which the school facilities and space are not only used for students, but also for the local residents. Since the project was promoted in a link with reform of the education system in 2001, the demand in the expectation effect has been sharply increasing. Despite of the high expectation and attention, the school complex project, however, has been performed in a limit of efficiency. Consequently, public opinion calling for more structured and effective way on construction and administration has been certainly increasing. According to the strong demand, this study was carried out to provide basic data for, and suggest an approach to, more structured and effective way of establishment and administration of the school complex project by comparing the success cases in Seoul metropolitan city.

  • In this study, I focus on makerspaces, which have rapidly spread since the late 2000s in the world's major cities. Makerspaces, born amid great social change, reflect the core characteristics of industrial space. I analyze the makerspace based on the theoretical perspectives of urbanism in the macroscopic aspect and placeness in the microscopic aspect. The urbanism of makerspaces is manifested through entry into the inner cities and their connections with urban capabilities. This means that convergence with innovation factors is becoming more important than optimization of factor costs and agglomeration economies in the locational determinants of industrial space. The placeness of makerspaces is being re-formed through an emphasis on taste, the expansion of autonomy, and the strengthening of connections. This reveals how the value creation process within the industrial space is changing, from forming-placelessness through standardization, uniformity, and compartmentalization to forming-placeness through restoration of individual humanity and interaction. The results of the urbanism and placenesss analysis carry implications for the present moment, when it is necessary to diversify the spatial planning of industrial spaces.
