  • Change detection technique is essential to various applications of Very High-Resolution(VHR) satellite imagery and land monitoring. However, change detection accuracy of VHR satellite imagery can be decreased due to various geometrical dissimilarity. In this paper, the existing fusion evaluation indexes were revised and applied to improve VHR imagery based change detection accuracy between multi-temporal images. In addition, appropriate change detection methodology of VHR images are proposed through comparison of general change detection algorithm with cross-sharpened image based change detection algorithm. For these purpose, ERGAS, UIQI and SAM, which were representative fusion evaluation index, were applied to unsupervised change detection, and then, these were compared with CVA based change detection result. Methodologies for minimizing the geometrical error of change detection algorithm are analyzed through evaluation of change detection accuracy corresponding to image fusion method, also. The experimental results are shown that change detection accuracy based on ERGAS index by using cross-sharpened images is higher than these based on other estimation index by using general fused image.

  • In this paper, we experimented with speaker change detection that uses a statistical method for NOD (News On Demand) service. A specified speaker's change can find out content of each data in speech if analysed because it means change of data contents in news data. Speaker change detection acts as preprocessor that divide input speech by speaker. This is an important preprocessor phase for speaker tracking. We detected speaker change using GLR(generalized likelihood ratio) distance base division and BIC (Bayesian information criterion) base division among matrix method. An experiment verified speaker change point using BIC base division after divide by speaker unit using GLR distance base method first. In the experimental result, FAR (False Alarm Rate) was 63.29 in high noise environment and FAR was 54.28 in low noise environment in MDR (Missed Detection Rate) 15% neighborhood.

  • Change detection is widely used taxation, military fields, etc. In general, global change detection methods using image difference method, etc, are used in low resolution images and local change detection methods using floating windows, etc, are used in high resolution images. But, these methods have disadvantages in practical use and automatic method for changed area detection should be developed. In this research, characteristics of Kompsat images are reviewed in perspective of change detection and various change detection method applicable to are tested.

  • Speaker change detection is to detect automatically a point of time at which speaker was replaced. Since feature parameters used for speaker change detection depend not only on speaker characteristics but also on phonetic characteristics, spoken contents included in the feature parameters inevitably causes performance degradation of speaker change detection. In this paper, to alleviate this problem, a method to normalize phonetic variations in speech feature parameters is proposed for emphasizing changes due to speaker characteristics. Experimental results show that the proposed method improves the performance of speaker change detection.

  • To address unsolved issues of change detection in animated choropleth maps, we proposed the concept of 'gross change detection' and performed an experiment that empirically verifies the incidence of change blindness stems from the 'magnitude of change (MOC)', spatial distribution in animated choropleth maps. We generated experimental materials using the change-characterization arrays and the global Moran's I. Participants had 108 cases of changing maps with time duration (1 to 3 sec) and had questions. The results showed that MOC and duration affect gross change detection, but the most interesting result from our experiment was that different spatial distributions between two adjacent choropleth maps may lead the map reader to under- or over-estimate the level of gross change in the map. It implies that we should consider spatial distribution of change when we design animated choropleth maps.

  • Change detection is a core functions of remote sensing. It can be widely used in public business such as land monitoring, demage assessment from disaster, growth analysis of cities, etc. However, it seems that the change detection using satellite imagery has not been fully used in public business. For the person who are in charge of public business, it would not be easy to implement the change detection because various functions are combined into it. So, to promote the use of the change detection in public business, the standard, the process and the method for the change detection in public business should be established. Also, the software which supports that would be very useful. This study aims to promote the use of satellite imagery in public business by building up the change detection process which are suitable for general public business and developing the change detection software to support the process. The software has been developed using ETRI Components for Satellite Image Processing to support the interoperability.

  • Information of target changes in inaccessible areas is very important in terms of national security. Fast and accurate change detection of targets is very important to respond quickly. Spaceborne synthetic aperture radar can acquire images with high accuracy regardless of weather conditions and solar altitude. With the recent increase in the number of SAR satellites, it is possible to acquire images with less than one day temporal resolution for the same area. This advantage greatly increases the availability of change detection for inaccessible areas. Commonly available information in satellite SAR is amplitude and phase information, and change detection techniques have been developed based on each technology. Those are amplitude Change Detection (ACD), Coherence Change Detection (CCD). Each algorithm differs in the preprocessing process for accurate automatic classification technique according to the difference of information characteristics and the final detection result of each algorithm. Therefore, by analyzing the academic research trends for ACD and CCD, each technologies can be complemented. The goal of this paper is identifying current issues of SAR change detection techniques by collecting research papers. This study would help to find the prerequisites for SAR change detection and use it to conduct periodic detection research on inaccessible areas.

  • The remote sensing technique using SAR data have many advantages when applied to the disaster site due to its wide coverage and all-weather acquisition availability. Although a single-pol (polarimetric) SAR image cannot represent the land surface better than a quad-pol SAR image can, single-pol SAR data are worth using for disaster-induced change detection. In this paper, an automatic change detection method based on a mixture of GGDs (generalized Gaussian distribution) is proposed, and usability of the textural features and intensity is evaluated by using the proposed method. Three ALOS/PALSAR images were used in the experiments, and the study site was Norita City, which was affected by the 2011 Tohoku earthquake. The experiment results showed that the proposed automatic change detection method is practical for disaster sites where the large areas change. The intensity information is useful for detecting disaster-induced changes with a 68.3% g-mean, but the texture information is not. The autocorrelation and correlation show the interesting implication that they tend not to extract agricultural areas in the change detection map. Therefore, the final tsunami-induced change map is produced by the combination of three maps: one is derived from the intensity information and used as an initial map, and the others are derived from the textural information and used as auxiliary data.

  • Video is an important and challenge media and requires sophisticated indexing schemes for efficient retrieval from visual databases. Scene change detection is the first step for automatic indexing of video data. Recently, several scene change detection algorithms in the pixel and compressed domains have been reported in the literature. However, using pixel methods are computationally complex and are not very robust in detecting scene change detection. In this paper, we propose robust abrupt scene change detection using macroblock type and DC coefficient. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is robust for detection of most abrupt scene changes in the compressed domain.

  • This paper presented a new scene change detection method of compounding color histogram and $x^2$ histogram. This method overcomes the disadvantages of difference value detection methods and will be taking advantage. Also, this method can detect all from the abrupt scene change detection to gradual scene change detection. The proposed method has been compared with previous method, and our experimental results show the better results than the previous method.
