Raw mix of molten clinker was fabricated using blast furnace slag as starting material. Raw mix was melted at 1620$^{\circ}C$ for molten clinker fabrication. It was found that molten clinker contained alite and belite equivalent to OPC clinker mineral by optical microscope and SEM. The size of alite was 10~50 ${\mu}m$ and that of belite was 20~80 ${\mu}m$. This result thought to be attributed low $Al_2O_3$ content and cooling condition. Interstitial phase increased with blast furnace slag content and gehlenite was formed by the condition of LSF and SM. So raw mix with 27~41% blast furnace slag could be converted into cement clinker by appropriate choice of melting andcooling methods in this study.
In this study, $ZrO_2$ ceramic ink was formulated for additive manufacturing three dimensional structure using dispenser printing technique. Ceramic ink with various $ZrO_2$ loading (30, 40, 50vol%) was prepared to evaluate their rheological properties and printability. High $ZrO_2$ loading $ZrO_2$ ceramic ink showed higher elastic modulus and improved shape retention, when the ceramic ink was printed and sintered at $1450^{\circ}C$ for 1h. Microstructural analysis of printed $ZrO_2$ objective indicated that high $ZrO_2$ loading objective showed lower porosity and smaller pore size.
Ink-jet printing is a manufacturing process technology that directly prints a digitalized design pattern onto a substrate using a fine ink jetting system. In this study, environmentally friendly yellow aqueous ceramic ink is synthesized by mixture of distilled water, yellow ceramic pigment and additives for ink-jet printing. The graft polymer, which combines electrostatic repulsion and steric hindrance mechanism, is used as a surfactant for dispersion stability of aqueous ceramic ink. Synthesized ceramic ink with graft polymer surfactant shows better dispersion stability than did ceramic ink with PAA surfactant; synthesized ink also shows desirable ink-jet printability with the formation of a single ink droplet during printability test. Finally, ceramic ink printed on glass substrate and ceramic ink with graft polymer surfactant shows a high contact angle without surface treatment on glass substrate. Consequently, it is confirmed that the ceramic ink with graft polymer surfactant can achieve high printing resolution without additional surface treatment process.
Ceramic nano pigments have attracted much interest owing to recent demand for nontoxic, heavy metal-free pigments. In general, ceramic pigments must possess thermal stability at high temperature, however nanosized powder easily undergoes aggregation at high temperature, and its color turns. serveral groups have focused on to minimize agglomeration and oxidation, a core-shell structure with a silica coating is suggested. In this review, we introduce the reported the trend of nano-ceramic powders and we summarized method improve color and physical properties throuth morphology control and ceramic coating technology.
We face many fascinating and diverse challenges, the most important among which is to determine how to store a large amount of information with novel approaches. Info-convergence ceramic nanosystems, which combine ceramic materials science and information technology, may provide an attractive alternative. This review considers recent multidisciplinary advances in the development of info-convergence nanosystems based on ceramic materials and discusses various strategies under ceramic-based information systems with a special focus on materials and nanohybridization technologies. Ceramic materials have played diverse roles not only as the generic coding support, but also as the central coding substance. The review highlights the ceramic nanohybrid bio code and ceramic nanoparticle optical code for applications in tracking-and-traceability management, nano-forensics, anti-counterfeiting, and even communication, as well as the four steps of encoding, encrypting, decrypting, and decoding for the desired applications. Additionally, associated challenges, potential solutions, and perspectives for future developments in the field are discussed.
Porous ceramics are used in various industrial applications based on their physical properties, including isolation, storage, and thermal barrier properties. However, traditional manufacturing environments require additional steps to control artificial pores and limit deformities, because they rely on limited molding methods. To overcome this drawback, many studies have recently focused on fabricating porous structures using additive manufacturing techniques. In particular, the binder jet technology enables high porosity and various types of designs, and avoids the limitations of existing manufacturing processes. In this study, we investigated process optimization for manufacturing porous ceramic filters using the binder jet technology. In binder jet technology, the flowability of the powder used as the base material is an important factor, as well as compatibility with the binder in the process and for the final print. Flow agents and secondary binders were used to optimize the flowability and compatibility of the powders. In addition, the effects of the amount of added glass frit, and changes in sintering temperature on the microstructure, porosity and mechanical properties of the final printed product were investigated.
Ink-jet printing has become a widespread technology with the society's increase in aesthetic awareness. Especially, ink-jet printing using glazed ceramic ink can offer huge advantages including high quality decoration, continuous processing, glaze patterning, and direct reproduction of high resolution images. Recently, ceramic ink-jet printing has been rapidly introduced to decorate the porcelain product and the ceramic tiles. In this study, we provide an effective method to apply ceramic ink-jet decorations on the glass substrates using a oleophobic coating with perfluorooctyl trichlorosilane. The ink-jet printed patterns were much clearer on the oleophobically coated glass surface than the bare glass surface. The contact angle of the ceramic ink was maximized to the value of $64.0^{\circ}$ on the glass surface, when it was treated with 1 vol% PFTS solution for 1 min. The effects of the printing conditions and firing process on the ink-jet printed patterns on the oleophobically coated glass were also investigated.
Non-sintered Alumina films were fabricated via inkjet printing processes without a high temperature sintering process. The packing density of these inkjet-printed alumina films measured around 60%. Polymer resin was infiltrated thru these non-sintered films in order to fill out the 40% of voids constituting the rest of the inkjet-printed films. The concept of inkjet-printed Alumina-Resin hybrid materials was designed in order to be applicable to the ceramic package substrates for 3D-system module integration which may possibly substitute LTCC-based 3D module integration. So, the dielectric properties of these inkjet-printed $Al_2O_3$ hybridmaterialsareofourgreatinterest. We have measured dielectric constant and dissipation factor of the inkjet-printed $Al_2O_3$-resinhybridfilmsbyvaryingtheamountofresininfiltratedthruthe$Al_2O_3$films.
In the development of advanced ceramic tools, material improvements and design freedom are critical in improving tool performance. However, in the die press molding method, many factors limit tool design and make it difficult to develop innovative advanced tools. Ceramic 3D printing facilitates the production of prototype samples for advanced tool development and the creation of complex tooling products. Furthermore, it is possible to respond to mass production requirements by reflecting the needs of the tool industry, which can be characterized by small quantities of various products. However, many problems remain in ensuring the reliability of ceramic tools for industrial use. In this study, alumina inserts, a representative ceramic tool, was manufactured using the digital light process (DLP), a 3D printing method. Alumina inserts prepared by 3D printing are pressurelessly sintered under the same conditions as coupon-type specimens prepared by press molding. After sintering, a hot isostatic pressing (HIP) treatment is performed to investigate the effects of relative density and microstructure changes on hardness and fracture toughness. Alumina inserts prepared by 3D printing show lower relative densities than coupon specimens prepared by powder molding but indicate similar hardness and higher fracture toughness values.
