The following results were obtainde 1. An advantage of build up on east die with out manufacturing veneer, crown, core, or masking(reduction of technical process, and retrenchment of time and money) 2. Esthetically more close to natural teeth than other technique 3. Easy to remove a refractors cast die 4. In manufacturing ceramo-metal crown the enomous effectiveness was obtainde on applying in the areas of cervical margin, the metal surface, and in the treatment of pinhole.
Author examined clinical procedure, clinical application and clinical failure of castable glass ceramic (Dicor) crowns which were made at the Dept. of Prosthodontics, Seoul National University Hospital during 19 months from Jan. 1988 to July, 1989(Observation period:19 months). The author obtained the following results. 1. A total of 86 crowns were constructed ; Most of them has been set on maxillary central incisors(53 cases, 62%):maxillary lateral incisors(20 cases, 23%):maxillary canines(6 cases, 7%):others(7 cases, 8%) 2. Dicer could be used as a lamiate veneer for discolored tooth. 3. During the examination period(1-19 months), there was no fracture case. 4. Dicer could be applied on the maxillary anterior tooth with minimal occlusal force.
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM. Zirconia-based restorations have the common technical complication of delamination, or porcelain chipping, from the zirconia core. Thus the shear bond strength between the zirconia core and the veneering porcelain requires investigation in order to facilitate the material's clinical use. PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bonding strength of the porcelain veneer to the zirconia core and to other various metal alloys (high noble metal alloy and base metal alloy). MATERIAL AND METHODS. 15 rectangular ($4\times4\times9mm$) specimens each of zirconia (Cercon), base metal alloy (Tillite), high noble metal alloy (Degudent H) were fabricated for the shear bond strength test. The veneering porcelain recommended by the manufacturer for each type of material was fired to the core in thickness of 3mm. After firing, the specimens were embedded in the PTFE mold, placed on a mounting jig, and subjected to shear force in a universal testing machine. Load was applied at a crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min until fracture. The average shear strength (MPa) was analyzed with the oneway ANOVA and the Tukey's test ($\alpha$= .05). The fractured specimens were examined using SEM and EDX to determine the failure pattern. RESULTS. The mean shear strength ($\pm\;SD$) in MPa was 25.43 ($\pm\;3.12$) in the zirconia group, 35.87 ($\pm\;4.23$) in the base metal group, 38.00 ($\pm\;5.23$) in the high noble metal group. The ANOVA showed a significant difference among groups, and the Tukey' s test presented a significant difference between the zirconia group and the metal group. Microscopic examination showed that the failure primarily occurred near the interface with the residual veneering porcelain remaining on the core. CONCLUSION. There was a significant difference between the metal ceramic and zirconia ceramic group in shear bond strength. There was no significant difference between the base metal alloy and the high noble metal alloy.

Application of CAD/CAM is changing the way partial or full veneer all ceramic restoration is made. CAD/CAM systems, which were used mainly in other industries, have been developed and introduced for the dental purposes recently. It produced a flood of information on the CAD/CAM systems. It also influenced the development of restorative materials and all ceramic is substituting the traditional restorative materials of gold, composite resin and metal. Price increase of gold and other raw materials made the all ceramic more appealing. The introduction of a CEREC 3D system was innovative in several ways. Image of the prepared tooth is captured by camera and impression taking is unnecessary. Restoration can be delivered to the patient on one appointment and it will satisfy the demand of busy patients. One-day treatment with direct CAD/CAM system saves time compared to indirect CAD/CAM system. More superior restoration can be produced if lab work such as the adaptability check and shade selection is cooperated with lab technician. Short working time and comparably superior shade compatibility of color block was close to ideal. In the future, restorations with better quality can be fabricated in less time to busy patients thanks to the development of CAD/CAM system and dental materials.

PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to find out the effect of immediate dentin sealing (IDS) on bond strength of ceramic restoration under various thermocycling periods with DBA (dentin bonding agent system). MATERIALS AND METHODS. Fifty freshly extracted human mandibular third molars were divided into 5 groups (1 control and 4 experimental groups) of 10 teeth. We removed enamel layer of sound teeth and embedded them which will proceed to be IDS, using All Bond II. A thermocycling was applied to experimental groups for 1, 2, 7, 14 days respectively and was not applied to control group. IPS Empress II for ceramic was acid-etched with ceramic etchant (9.5% HF) and silane was applied. Each ceramic disc was bonded to specimens with Duo-link, dual curable resin cement by means of light curing for 100 seconds. After the cementation procedures, shear bond strength measurement and SEM analysis of the fractured surface were done. The data were analyzed with a one-way ANOVA and Tukey multiple comparison test (${\alpha}$=.05). RESULTS. There were no statistically significant differences between 4 experimental groups and control group, however the mean value started to decrease in group 7d, and group 14d showed the lowest mean bond strength in all groups. Also, group 7d and 14d showed distinct exposed dentin and collapsed hybrid layer was observed in SEM analysis. CONCLUSION. In the present study, it can be concluded that ceramic restorations like a laminate veneer restoration should be bonded using resin cement within one week after IDS procedure.
Purpose: This study focused on achieving desired shades by combining zirconia core with different thickness porcelain in order to make dental prostheses effectively. Methods: White and colored $LAVA^{TM}$ All Ceramic (3M-ESPE, Seefeld, Germany), and Zirkonzahn (Bruneck, Italy) Trans and prettau were used to have Zirconia. LAVATM Ceram (3M-ESPE, Germany) and ICE (Zirkonzahn, Italy) powder were used to have the porcelain. We made quadrilateral specimen of thickness 0.3mm, 0.5mm, 0.7mm and diameter 10 to use zirconia ceramics system of 2 kinds that color tone reappearance way is different and produced total 120 specimens to 4 experimental groups. We used Spectrophotometer to analyze color tone. Data's value getting by dispersal colorimetry period found L*, a*, b* value using Excel program. We used one-way ANOVA to use SPSS WIN 12.0 program. Results: All L*, a*, b* indexes of zirconia core and porcelain veneer in LAVA group and Zirkonzahn group were different. When you combine the white zirconia core of LAVA group with a porcelain veneer, the thickness of the porcelain must be more than 0.5mm to meet the standard target. When all the colored zirconia cores of LAVA group were combined with porcelain veneers, there was no significant difference from the standard target. When the zirconia cores of Zirkonzahn group are combined with porcelain veneers, the thinner thicknesses were closer to the standard tab than thicker thicknesses; however, there was a significant difference in all combinations, with Delta E* value indicating more than 3. Conclusion: When it comes to colored zirconia, which is the most popular, the thicknesses of both a core and a dentin veneer must be more than 0.3mm to get an appropriate shade. There is more possibility to get desirable shades when the thicknesses of a white core are thinner; however, they would be vulnerable to the environment and lose their color. When combine a zirconia core with a dentin veneer, using Zirkonzahn group needs more considerations in order to meet the standard target.

Purpose: When the full veneer crown was treated in the tooth with abfraction lesion due to various causes, the prognosis of it may be compromised according to the location of the finish line, but there is few study about the location of its buccal finish line. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of location of the finish line of the full veneer crown on stress distribution of the tooth with abfraction lesion. Materials and methods: The two dimensional finite element model was developed to express tooth, surrounding tissue and full veneer crown. The stress distribution under eccentric 144 N occlusal load was analyzed using finite element analysis. The location of finish line was set just at the lower border of the lesion (Group 0), 1 mm (Group 1) and 2 mm (Group 2) below the lower border of the lesion. Results: In the Group 0, von Mises stress was concentrated at the finish line and the apex of the lesion. Also, the stress at the bucal finish line propagated to the lingual side. In the Group 1 and Group 2, stress distribution was similar each other. Stress was concentrated at the apex of lesion, but the stress at the buccal finish line did not propagate to the lingual side. That implied decrease of the possibility of horizontal crown fracture. Conclusion: Full veneer crown alleviated the stress concentrated at the apex of the abfraction lesion, when the finish line of full veneer crown was set below the lower border of abfraction lesion.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the translucency of two different laminate ceramic veneers with and without glazing. Materials and methods: Ten millimeter side square-shaped specimens in 0.3 mm and 0.6 mm thick were fabricated for the following materials with and without glazing (n=80): A1 shade IPS e.maxPress (IEM) and Styleveneers (STV). The color coordinates (CIE $L^*a^*b^*$) of the specimens were measured with a colorimeter. The Translucency parameter (TP) was calculated from the color difference of the material on a black versus a white background. For comparisons between materials and between the 'not glazed' and 'glazed' groups, unpaired t-test was used to analyze the data (P=.05). Results: The TP ($Mean{\pm}SD$) of 'not-glazed' and 'glazed' group of IEM specimens at 0.3 mm thickness were $45.99{\pm}3.00$ and $49.53{\pm}2.28$ and the TP at 0.6 mm thickness were $32.82{\pm}2.59$ and $43.02{\pm}0.98$, respectively. Likewise, the TP of 'not-glazed' and 'glazed' group of STV specimens at 0.3 mm thickness were $47.03{\pm}3.65$ and $50.95{\pm}3.05$ and the TP at 0.6 mm thickness group were $34.48{\pm}1.28$ and $43.39{\pm}1.20$, respectively. As the glazing of ceramic veneer differed, the TP of each ceramic veneer showed statistically significant difference. But, the result between the products was not statistically different. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, we are concluded that the glazing process changed translucency of laminate ceramic veneers and the TP would not be affected by products.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of different coping thicknesses and veneer ceramic cooling rates on the failure load of zirconia-ceramic crowns. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Zirconia copings of two different thicknesses (0.5 mm or 1.5 mm; n=20 each) were fabricated from scanning 40 identical abutment models using a dental computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing system. Zirconia-ceramic crowns were completed by veneering feldspathic ceramics under different cooling rates (conventional or slow, n=20 each), resulting in 4 different groups (CONV05, SLOW05, CONV15, SLOW15; n=10 per group). Each crown was cemented on the abutment. 300,000 cycles of a 50-N load and thermocycling were applied on the crown, and then, a monotonic load was applied on each crown until failure. The mean failure loads were evaluated with two-way analysis of variance (P=.05). RESULTS. No cohesive or adhesive failure was observed after fatigue loading with thermocycling. Among the 4 groups, SLOW15 group (slow cooling and 1.5 mm chipping thickness) resulted in a significantly greater mean failure load than the other groups (P<.001). Coping fractures were only observed in SLOW15 group. CONCLUSION. The failure load of zirconia-ceramic crowns was significantly influenced by cooling rate as well as coping thickness. Under conventional cooling conditions, the mean failure load was not influenced by the coping thickness; however, under slow cooling conditions, the mean failure load was significantly influenced by the coping thickness.
Purpose: This study aimed to identify the impact of physical surface roughing with a polishing tool onto the pre-sintering yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystals (TZP) core and liner treatment for chemical bonding on the bond strength of TZP core and veneering ceramic. Methods: Overall, 80 specimens were classified into two groups (non-liner, NL; and usingliner, UL ) depending on the use of liner, and these two groups were then subclassified into four groups depending on the polishing tool used. (1) Non-liner groups: NS, non-liner+stone point; NC, non-liner+carbide bur; NP, non-liner+paper cone point; NT, non-liner+silicon point. (2) Using-liner groups: US, using-liner+stone point; UC, using-liner+carbide bur; UP, usingliner+paper cone point; UT, using-liner+silicon point. The pre-sintering surface roughing values and shapes were observed, and after burning up the veneering ceramic, the shear bond strength was measured using a universal testing machine. For significance testing, a one-way analysis of variance and Tukey's multiple comparison test were conducted. An optical microscope was used to observe the fracture plane, and the following results were obtained. Results: Surface roughness NP (4.09±0.51 ㎛) represented a higher value than other groups (p<0.001). In shear bond strength, NS (35.21±1.44 MPa) of the NL group showed the highest bond strength (p<0.001). The UL group did not show a statistically significant difference between groups (p=0.612). Conclusion: Our study findings reveal that the bond strength of TZP core and veneering ceramic was improved by pre-sintering physical surface treatment than by chemical bonding with liner surface treatment.
