Zirconia-toughnened alumina(ZTA) powders that were uniformly coated with zirconia and yttria on the surface of alumina particles were prepared in order to inhibit the grain growth of alumina. Alumina particles were ultrasonically dispersed in the ethanol solution of Zr-n-propoxide, and then the Zr-alkoxide was hydrolyzed. Hydrated zironia as thin film was stabilized to tetragonal crystalline form by doping yttria as a stabilizer. The prepared ZTA powders had the good sinterability even at the lower temperature. As a result, the sintered bodies showed the enhanced fracture toughness compared with pure alumina. The relative density and fracture toughness(KIC) of the ZTA bodies sintered at 1550$^{\circ}C$ were 98% and 5 MPa$.$m1/2 respectively.

The effects of polymer-binder ratio and ceramic powder content on the drying shringage and strength of polymer-modified pastes using redispersible polymer powders and ceramic powder are examined. As a result, the drying shrinkage of the polymer-modified pastes using redispersible polymer powders tend to decrease with increasing polymer-binder ratio and ceramic powder content. Regardless of the type of polymer powder, the tensile strength and adhesion in tension of the polymer-modified pastes with ceramic powder tend to increase with increasing polymer-binder ratio and ceramic powder content.

The possibility of employment of ceramics, known to be emitting far infrared waves, to keep the growth and the viability of the antagonistic microorganisms was examined. Among four kinds of commercial ceramics, the ceramic powders composed of soft ferrite as a main component has exhibited to grow Pseudomonas cepacia and Saccharomyces cerevisiae better. The ceramic powder in the growth medium has increased the number of cells of P. cepada about ten times and that of S. cerevisiae two to five times more than that in the control at $27^{\circ}C$. The viability of the microorganism at low temperature which was measured from the regrowth behavior at $27^{\circ}C$ after five days store at $4^{\circ}C$ has shown that the lag time of the two microorganisms reduced about three hours without any defect in the rate of logarithmic growth. These results demonstrated that the ceramic powders was available to the growth and viability at low temperature of antagonistic microorganisms.
[ $LiCoO_2$ ] a cathode material for lithium rechargeable batteries, was prepared using recycled $Co_3O_4$. First, the cobalt hydroxide powders were separated from waste WC-Co hard metal with acid-base chemical treatment, and then the impurities were eliminated by centrifuge method. Subsequently, $Co_3O_4$ powders were prepared by thermal treatment of resulting $Co(OH)_2$. By adding a certain amount of $Li_2CO_3$ and $LiOH{\cdot}H_2O$, the $LiCoO_2$ was obtained by sintering for 10 h in air at $800^{\circ}C$. The synthesized $LiCoO_2$ particles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) analysis.
Nanosized $BaCeO_3$ powders with the stoichiometric composition of a molecular level were synthesized by the citrate process based on the Pechini method. Polymeric precursor was formed by use of citric acid and ethylen glycol, as chelating agent of metal ions and reaction medium, respectively. Single phase orthorhombic structured $BaCeO_3$powders, about 100 nm sized and uniform shaped were obtained through the calcination of the polymeric precursor at $900^{\circ}C$ for 4 h. Extremely small quantities of carbonate ions($CO_^{2-}$) were completely decomposed at over $1100^{\circ}C$. The mean size of the powders was increased twice, however, it has very uniform distribution in its size and shape.

In this study, we investigated synthesis and characteristics of gallium oxide ($Ga_2O_3$) powders prepared by precipitation method. $Ga_2O_3$ powders were synthesized using $Ga(NO_3)_3$ as a starting material and $NH_4OH$ as a precipitant. The oxidation temperature of $Ga(OH)_3$ and phase transition temperature of $Ga_2O_3$ was revealed using TG-DSC analysis. The crystal structural change of $Ga_2O_3$ powders was investigated by XRD analysis. The morphologies and size distributions of $Ga_2O_3$ particles were analyzed using SEM.

A polymerized organic-inorganic complexation route is introduced for the synthesis of oxide ceramic powders. Polyvinyl alcohol was used as the organic carrier for precursor ceramic gel. Porous and soft powders, which have a high specific surface area, were obtained after calcinating the aerated precursors. The PVA content and its degree of polymerization had a significant influence on the homogeneity of the final powder. In particular, attrition milling process with the porous powder resulted in ultra-fine particles. In the case of the preparation of cordierite powder, nano-size powder, which has a high specific surface area of 181 ㎡/g, was obtained by the milling process. The complexation route was also applied to the synthesis of unstable phase in room temperature like beta-cristobalite, high temperature form of silica.
Characteristics of Al2O3-ZrO2 powders prepared by sol-gel process and their sintering behavior were investigated as a function of calcination temperature. The sol-gel processed powders were calcined at 800, 900, 1000, 1100, 1200$^{\circ}C$, and analyzed by X-ray diffraction technique. Pore size and distribution of green compact of the calcined powders were measured by mercury porosimeter. It is suggested that the optimal temperature of calcination for the sintering of Al2O3-ZrO2 powder prepared by sol-gel process is 1100$^{\circ}C$. In the Al2O3-17vol.% ZrO2 sintered specimen, which was sintered at 1600$^{\circ}C$ for 2hrs in air, 69vol.% tetragonal phse existed.
Ultrafine $(CeO_2)_{0.9}(Gd_2O_3)_{0.1}$ solid solution powders synthesized by the glycine-nitrate process, with specific surface areas of $19-23\;\textrm{m}^2$/g were sintered at $1500^{\circ}C$ for various sintering times and then their electrical characteristics were investigated using AC impedance and four-point probe measurements. The electrical resistivity of the sintered $(CeO_2)_{0.9}(Gd_2O_3)_{0.1}$ bodies showed the minimum value at the sintering time of 10 hrs. The minimum total resistivity of the $(CeO_2)_{0.9}(Gd_2O_3)_{0.1}$ bodies sintered at $1500^{\circ}C$ for 10 hrs seems to result from the lowest activation energy for the electrical resistivity by the combination between the activation energies for the resistivities at the grain interior and grain boundary.
Duplex microstructure of zirconia and alumina has been achieved via an organic-inorganic solution technique. Zirconium 2,4-pentanedionate, aluminum nitrate and polyethylene glycol were dissolved in ethyl alcohol without any precipitation. The organicinorganic precursor gels were turned to porous powders having volume expansion through explosive, exothermic reaction during drying process. The volume expansion was caused by abrupt decomposition of the organic groups in the gels during the vigorous exothermic reaction. The volume expanded, porous powders were crystallized and densified at 1500$^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. At the optimum amount of the PEG polymer, the metal cations were well dispersed in the solution and a homogeneous polymeric network was formed. The polymer content also affected on the specific surface area of the synthesized powder and the grain size of the sintered composite.
