A Study on a Visual Sensor System for Weld Seam Tracking in Robotic GMA Welding (GMA 용접로봇용 용접선 시각 추적 시스템에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, we constructed a preview-sensing visual sensor system for weld seam tracking in real time in GMA welding. A sensor part consists of a CCD camera, a band-pass filter, a diode laser system with a cylindrical lens, and a vision board for inter frame process. We used a commercialized robot system which includes a GMA welding machine. To extract the weld seam we used a inter frame process in vision board from that we could remove the noise due to the spatters and fume in the image. Since the image was very reasonable by using the inter frame process, we could use the simplest way to extract the weld seam from the image, such as first differential and central difference method. Also we used a moving average method to the successive position data of weld seam for reducing the data fluctuation. In experiment the developed robot system with visual sensor could be able to track a most popular weld seam, such as a fillet-joint, a V-groove, and a lap-joint of which weld seam include planar and height directional variation.

An Analysis of the Circumferentially Grooved Floating Ring Journal Bearing (원주방향 급유홈 프로팅링 저어널베어링의 해석)

  • The static and dynamic performances of a floating ring journal bearing with central circumferential grooves at the inner and outer films are obtained numerically with isothermal lubrication theory. Elrod algorithm implementing Jakobsson-Floberg-Olsson cavitation boundary condition is adopted to predict cavitation regions in the inner and outer films more accurately than conventional analyses using half Sommerfeld or Reynolds conditions. The pressure drop in the circumferential groove of the inner film due to the rotation of the journal and ring is taken into account. It is shown that the lubricant supply pressure has significant influence on the load capacity and dynamic coefficients of the bearing. When the supply pressure is low and the journal speed is high, the pressure drop results in severe starvation of lubricant in the inner film and varies the overall performance of the bearing remarkably.

  • In this paper, we demonstrate a facile fabrication technique for a periodically aligned metal nanoparticle array, for a narrow-band plasmonic absorber. The metal nanoparticles are fabricated by e-beam evaporation and heat treatment processes on top of a periodic aluminum groove template. The plasmonic absorber is constructed with the transferred metal nanoparticle array, sputtered 33-nm-thick $Al_2O_3$, and 200-nm-thick metal reflector layers on silicon substrate. 46-nm-diameter and 76-nm-lattice metal-nanoparticle-array-based plasmonic absorber has performed as a narrow-band absorber with a central wavelength of 572 nm and full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 109.9 nm.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the distribution of tensile stress of canal obturated maxillary second premolar with access cavity and notch-shaped class V cavity restored with composite resin using a 3D finite element analysis. The tested groups were classified as 8 situations by only access cavity or access cavity with notch-shaped class V cavity (S or N), loading condition (L1 or L2), and with or without glass ionomer cement base (R1 or R2). A static load of 500 N was applied at buccal and palatal cusps. Notch-shaped cavity and access cavity were filled microhybrid composite resin (Z100) with or without GIC base (Fuji II LC). The tensile stresses presented in the buccal cervical area, palatal cervical area and occlusal surface were analyzed using ANSYS. Tensile stress distributions were similar regardless of base. When the load was applied on the buccal cusp, excessive high tensile stress was concentrated around the loading point and along the central groove of occlusal surface. The tensile stress values of the tooth with class Ⅴ cavity were slightly higher than that of the tooth without class V cavity. When the load was applied the palatal cusp, excessive high tensile stress was concentrated around the loading point and along the central groove of occlusal surface. The tensile stress values of the tooth without class V cavity were slightly higher than that of the tooth with class V cavity.

A STUDY ON COMPARISON OF VARIOUS KINDS OF CLASSII AMALGAM CAVITIES USING FINITE ELEMENT METHOD (유한요소법을 이용한 수종 2급 아말감 와동의 비교연구)

  • The basic principles in the design of Class II amalgam cavity preparations have been modified but not changed in essence over the last 90 years. The early essential principle was "extension for prevention". Most of the modifications have served to reduce the extent of preparation and, thus, increase the conservation of sound tooth structure. A more recent concept relating to conservative Class II cavity preparations involves elimination of occlusal preparation if no carious lesion exists in this area. To evaluate the ideal ClassII cavity preparation design, if carious lesion exists only in the interproximal area, three cavity design conditions were studied: Rodda's conventional cavity, simple proximal box cavity and proximal box cavity with retention grooves. In this study, MO amalgam cavity was prepared on maxillary first premolar. Three dimensional finite element models were made by serial photographic method. Linear, eight and six-nodal, isoparametric brick elements were used for the three dimensional finite element model. The periodontal ligament and alveolar bone surrounding the tooth were excluded in these models. Three types model(B option, Gap option and R option model) were developed. B option model was assumed perfect bonding between the restoration and cavty wall. Gap option model(Gap distance: $2{\mu}m$) was assumed the possibility of play at the interface simulated the lack of real bonding between the amalgam and cavity wall (enamel and dentin). R option model was assumed non-connection between the restoration and cavty wall. A load of 500N was applied vertically at the first node from the lingual slope of the buccal cusp tip. This study analysed the displacement, 1 and 2 direction normal stress and strain with FEM software ABAQUS Version 5.2 and hardware IRIS 4D/310 VGX Work-station. The results were as followed. 1. Rodda's cavity form model showed greater amount of displacement with other two models. 2. The stress and strain were increased on the distal marginal ridge and buccopulpal line angle in Rodda's cavity form model. 3. The stress and strain were increased on the central groove and a part of distal marginal ridge in simple proximal box model and proximal box model with retention grooves. 4. With Gap option, Rodda's cavity form model showed the greatest amount of the stress on distal marginal ridge followed by proximal box model with retention grooves and simple proximal box model in descending order. 5. With Gap option, simple proximal box model showed greater amount of stress on the central groove with proximal box model with retention grooves. 6. Retention grooves in the proximal box played the role of supporting the restorations opposing to loads.

Study on the Radula of Korean Marine Gastropods (한국산 해산 권패류 치설의 형태에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of the present study on the radula of Korean marine gastropods is to determine the systematic position of the species by the radula features. The radula features of 9 Families based on the observation of specimens consisting of 31 species are described briefly as follows. 1. Naticidae; Radula formula 2-1-C-1-2. Rachidian is 3-cusped. All cusps are strong and pointed. The lateral tooth is massive and strong with a huge triangula cusp. Two marginal teethare slender, long and strong. 2. Cymatidae; Radula formula 2-1-c-1-2. Fachidian, 1-cusped. Cusp is strong and acute. The basal margin is toothed with a number of small denticles. The lateral tooth is beak-like and strong with groove inside. The marginal teeth are slender and pointed. 3. Tonnidae; Radula Formula 2-1-C-1-2. Rachidian, 3 cusped. Central cusp is huge, strong and abruptly pointed. Lateral cusp is blunt and relatively small. The lateral tooth and maginal teeth are identical to that of the preceding one. 4. Muricidae; Radula formula 1-C-1. Rachidian has 3 to 5 cusps. Central cusp, long, thick, strong and pointed. Lateral cusps are rather shorter than central, thick, strong and well cut with several minute denticles along outer margin. The lateral tooth is falciform. 5. Pyrenidae; Radula formula 1-c-1 Rachidian lacks of cusp. The base is thin, narrow, small and rectangular. Lateral tooth has 2 cusps with a crescent shaped base. 6. Buccinidae; Radula formula 1-C-1. Rachidian has 3 to 7 cusps. The base is massive and broadened laterally. The lateral tooth is large-and has 2 to 4 cusps. The central cusp is the shortest, and become longer towards the each side. 7. Busyconidae ; Radula formula 1-C-1. Rachidian, 3-cusped with a massive base. All cusps are pointed and strong. Centeral cusp is rather shorter than lateral one. Lateral tooth, 2-cusped. Inner cusp short about one half the length of outer one. 8. Fasciolariidae; Radula formula 1-C-1. Rachidian, 3 to 4-cusped. Very small in size. Lateral tooth broadened laterally with about 10 thin, long, sharp cusps. 9. Volutidae ; Only the rachidian exists. Rachidian, 3-cusped. All cusps are strong and sharply pointed. Central cusp is narrower than lateral ones. Anterior basal margin is concave.

The Expression Patterns of Cdc25A, Cdc25B, Sox2 and Mnb in Central Nervous System in Early Chicken Embryos

  • The sense and antisense digoxigenin-labeled RNA probes of four genes, Cdc25A, Cdc25B, Sox2 and Mnb, were produced by using SP6 and T7 RNA polymerases, respectively, and in vitro transcription. Expression patterns of the four genes were detected by in situ hybridization in HH (Hamburger and Hamilton) stage 10 chick embryos. In general, expression patterns of the four genes were similar. mRNA of the four genes was mostly restricted to the entire CNS (central nervous system). All were confined to an identical region, neural tube, neural groove and caudal neural plate, corresponding to the notochord or spinal cord, but there was some distinction in specific region or in concentration, for example in somites. The overlap in expression at the same developmental stage in the CNS suggests that the four genes may be functional similar or related in CNS development. Expression patterns of the four genes support specific roles of these regulators in the developing CNS.

  • Primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC) has been observed around the weld region of control rod drive mechanism (CRDM) nozzles in nuclear power plants overseas. The weld has a J-shaped groove and it connects the CRDM nozzle with the reactor vessel upper head (RVUH). It is a dissimilar metal weld (DMW), because the CRDM is made of alloy 600 and the RVUH is made of carbon steel. In this study, finite element analysis (FEA) was performed to estimate the stress condition around the weld region. Generally, it is known that a high tensile region is more susceptible to PWSCC. FEA was performed as for the condition of welding, hydrostatic test and normal operation successively to observe how the residual stress changes due to plant condition. The FEA results show that a high tensile stress region is formed around the weld starting point on the inner surface and around the weld stop point on the outer surface.

A Morphological Study of Dental Arches in Korean Adults (한국인(韓國人) 성인(成人) 치열궁(齒列弓)의 형태학적(形態學的) 연구(硏究))

  • The measurements on the various items, such as arch form, kinds of anterior dental arch, degree of curvature in anterior dental arches, relationship between direction of the disto-incisal edge of the canine and first premolar, and kinds of posterior dental arch in upper dental arches were studied on 311 cases of the Korean adults aged from 20 to 30years. The results were as follows. 1. The commonest type of the upper dental arches was U-type (53.7%), the remaining were O-type (25.4%) and V-type (20.0%). 2. A slight curvature type (71.87%) prevailed against angulated curvature type in upper anterior dental arches. 3. The degree of curvature from $121^{\circ}$ to $160^{\circ}$ in anterior dental arches was common, and the degree of curve of 1-type with on curvature was smaller than 4, 5 type with two curvature. 4. The direction of the disto-incisal edge of canine went between the tip of the buccal cusp and the lingual incline of the buccal cusp of the first premolar in most dental arches and went lingual incline of the buccal cusp of the first premolar in U-type, from buccal cusp to lingual cusp of the first premolar in O-type and were distributed from buccal edge to central groove of the first premolar in V-type. 5. A posterior dental arch with almost straight curvature was common in 60.87%, and 4-type with a half rounded curve from first premolar to second molar was next.

  • Proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) is a critical eukaryotic replication accessory factor that supports DNA binding in DNA processing, such as DNA replication, repair, and recombination. PCNA consists of three toroidal-shaped monomers that encircle double-stranded DNA. The diverse functions of PCNA may be regulated by its interactions with partner proteins. Many of the PCNA partner proteins generally have a conserved PCNA-interacting peptide (PIP) motif, located at the N- or C- terminal region. The PIP motif forms a 310 helix that enters into the hydrophobic groove produced by an interdomain-connecting loop, a central loop, and a C-terminal tail in the PCNA. Post-translational modification of PCNA also plays a critical role in regulation of its function and binding partner proteins. Structural and biochemical studies of PCNA-protein will be useful in designing therapeutic agents, as well as estimating the outcome of anticancer drug development. This review summarizes the characterization of eukaryotic PCNA in relation to the protein structures, functions, and modifications, and interaction with proteins.
