  • In this paper, we have proposed personal multimodal biometric authentication system based on face detection, recognition and speaker verification for smart-phone environment. Proposed system detect the face with Modified Census Transform algorithm then find the eye position in the face by using gabor filter and k-means algorithm. Perform preprocessing on the detected face and eye position, then we recognize with Linear Discriminant Analysis algorithm. Afterward in speaker verification process, we extract the feature from the end point of the speech data and Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficient. We verified the speaker through Dynamic Time Warping algorithm because the speech feature changes in real-time. The proposed multimodal biometric system is to fuse the face and speech feature (to optimize the internal operation by integer representation) for smart-phone based real-time face detection, recognition and speaker verification. As mentioned the multimodal biometric system could form the reliable system by estimating the reasonable performance.

  • At present, Korean one-person households have been continuously increased in spite of the reduction of total population. The increasement of one-person household has become a social and institutional issue. It is necessary to response socially and economically to not only changes of housing demand but also the disadvantaged classes such as the socially weak and single elderly household from the national level. In this respect, this research examined the spatial distribution (such as the increasing area, high-density area, and majority area) of one-person household with census data in the city of Busan. The clusters of one-person households were selected by focusing on the spatial distributions by time series changes of 2000, 2005, and 2010 and considering their housing characteristics. In terms of policy efficiency, the clusters of one-person households to be supported by priority were derived by analyzing the census data from 6066 output areas in the city of Busan. As a result, lots of one-person households of juniors were distributed around the university town, office facility, and station service area. Lots of one-person households at middle-aged class were distributed in Busan's original downtown and mountain-side road. Generalizing these characteristics, cluster analysis was conducted. As a result, one-person household dense area in Busan could be classified into four types. This research should be utilized as a counterplan for increasing the housing demand of one-person household or basic data for supporting small housing supply policies in the future.

  • Large amounts of information on individuals is available to many organizations and data users and government agencies release microdata files from their survey data or administrative records data. However, if a microdata file is released without any limitation, an invasion of privacy is likely to occur. Therefore, in creating a microdata file, agencies attempt to eliminate disclosure risk of the file while maintaining maximum utility of the data. In this paper, we introduce the concept of disclosure risk, identification and uniqueness. Also, we show the method for creating a 2% microdata file using the 2005 Korean census microdata.

  • Recently, there is an increasing demand for applications utilizing maps and locations such as autonomous vehicles and location-based services. Since these applications are developed based on spatial data, interest in spatial data processing is increasing and various studies are being conducted. In this paper, I propose a parallel mining algorithm using the CUDA library to efficiently analyze large spatial data. Spatial data includes both geometric (spatial) and non-spatial (aspatial) attributes. The proposed parallel spatial data mining algorithm analyzes both the geometric and non-spatial relationships between two layers. The experiment was performed on graphics cards containing CUDA cores based on TIGER/Line data, which is the actual spatial data for the US census. Experimental results show that the proposed parallel algorithm using CUDA greatly improves spatial data mining performance.

  • We propose a new sampling design for the Korean Livestock Production Cost Survey. In this sampling design, the survey population is derived from the 2005’s agricultural census of Korea. And coefficient of variation(CV) is estimated from the current livestock production cost survey data, and the estimated CV’s are used to find the optimal sample size which satisfies the predetermined precision of estimation. In order to save the enumeration cost, the agriculture enumeration districts are used as a primary sampling unit(psu). Final sample is selected by double sampling. Also, we propose the estimator which is able to reflect the change of the population of livestock production households.

  • This paper aims to introduce the basic concept of probabilistic record linkage and its statistical framework, and describe the specific process and principle of performing it using a real example from Statistics Korea. First, we briefly describe the deterministic record linkage and compare it with probabilistic record linkage. We introduce the Fellegi-Sunter model framework for record linkage and the related paprameters: m-probability, u-probability, matched weight and decision rule. Finally, we show the detailed process of record linkage under Fellegi-Sunter model framework and evaluate the record linkage results, using sample data from the registered-based census and Population and Housing Census survey in Statistics Korea.

  • Many cartographers have for many years searched for a way to construct cartograms in which the sizes of geographic areas such as states, counties or census tracts are reseated in proportion to their population or some other socio-economic properties. While many techniques and algorithms for creating cartograms have been proposed, some of them are still extremely complex to generate in a proper manner, and many of them suffer either from this lack of readability or from seamless integration with GIS software. This paper, therefore, presents a simple population cartogam technique based on the Circular Cartogram Algorithm(CCA) by Dorling(1996) to tackle these drawbacks by drawing the areas as simple circles for use as a base map and linking the construction with GIS mapping processes. For an automated approach in the cartogram generation, this paper proposes a close coupling method of ArcView GIS 3.3. package in order for users to access to the cartopam algorithm. Then, they will be available through an interface that the ArcView GIS system allows user-written routines to be accessed easily. The CCA and its coupling architecture ensure to improve the potential applicability of the use of cartograms to census mapping at practical levels. As the cartogram examples, cartograms of population and property types in 2005 Korea census data sets are illustrated in the end, by which viewers can easily identify the residential concentration and their relative ratio in Seoul metropolitan area.

  • There are three official official demographics of the Republic of Korea: the population census, population projections, and resident population. Among these, the population projections estimates are based on population census statistics, which are conducted every five years. This study compared and analyzed the future population statistics and resident population statistics. In order to detect errors in the census process, we surveyed the outliers of demographic data. Based on these, we aimed to verify the reliability of official demographics. Resident registration demographics showed a tendency to increase as the age increased from 0 to 12 years, although the population had to decrease as the age increased. In the population projections, as the age increases from 18 to 28, a new population has developed and the population has increased. Also, in the resident population, between 2009 and 2010, in the population projections, between 2010 and 2011, there was a strange phenomenon that the population grew as a result of a new population as the age of all ages increased. Both official demographics need to be carried out through more accurate verification. Increasing the reliability of the aged population survey on the elderly population statistics will provide greater efficiency in establishing administrative policies.

  • This paper attempts to explore recent socio-demographic changes of the ethnic Korean population in Yanbian autonomous prefecture. Due to rapid decrease in the level of fertility and population ageing, Korean minority society in China has been in a process of profound transition after the introduction of the market economy and establishment of diplomatic relations between South Korea and China. The changes in demographic behaviors and in the structure of population appear to be much faster among Koreans than Hans. Results from the 2000 population census reveal that the Korean population in Yanbian, where ethnic Koreans are most densely populated in China, has been in a decreasing trends in absolute numbers and in its proportion to the total population. The growing tendency of regional mobility for work and for marriage, rapid expansion of residential areas, serious crisis of ethnic schools of Korean community, and weakening social integration and ethnic identification of Koreans in Yanbian are discussed in this study. It is expected that socio-demographic transition of Korean society in Yanbian will be even more drastic over the coming decades. The rapid changes in demographic behaviors and in the structure of population has major consequences and implications for every sphere of human life, and will present enormous challenges for the status of Korean minority society in China. Along with various statistical data on Yanbian, micro-level data as well as published reports from the 1990 Chinese population census for Yanbian and the 2000 Chinese population census are analyzed in this study. In addition to sex ratios and age ratios, various indices are calculated to analyze the characteristics and accuracy of the data from the 1990 and 2000 population censuses of China.

  • After city of Busan has been entered to the aging society in 2000, the city has the highest aging rate among 7 representative cities in 2011. Moreover, while entire population and number of average household are decreasing, over 65 years old of elderly population is rapidly increasing. So, it is possible to enter the super-aged society, where aging rate would be about 20% after 2020. The purpose of this study is that older housing-related analysis is consisted of dong-unit, and this led microscopic analysis has become necessary. Surveys from 2000 through 2010, census aggregate (output area) unit of spatial analysis was conducted. Take advantages of this, aging population and area, soaring area, high-density areas, such as the region of interest were primary extracted, and microscopic location and spatial distribution patterns were analyzed. Upon analysis, aging population is concentrated in the city and adjacent area, the highlands, and 10 years of increasing rate was more than 30 times in certain aggregate. Regarding the characteristic of these areas, the original city center, Busan, especially concentrated and intensified in aging population. Also, 2000 to 2010, the overall distribution pattern of Busan has identified aging population that is increasingly being distributed. This is the result, which is confronted with previous research result. Entering a super aged-society for the future is accordance with migration of social costs and improve the quality of life of elderly. And this could be the basic information to use the spatial dimension for the corresponding.
