The Guaranteed Frame Rate(GFR) service has been designed to accomodate non-real-time applications, such as TCP/IP based traffic in ATM networks. One of the important factors is buffer management for guaranteeing QoS in GFR service. In this paper, we propose a buffer management scheme which can improve the fairness and the throughput through the traffic control in GFR service. For the evaluation of the proposed scheme, we compare proposed scheme with the existing scheme in the fairness and the throughput. Simulation results show that proposed scheme can improve the fairness and throughput than the existing scheme.
This study presents a novel DNA part characterization technique that increases throughput by combinatorial DNA part assembly, solid plate-based quantitative fluorescence assay for phenotyping, and barcode tagging-based long-read sequencing for genotyping. We confirmed that the fluorescence intensities of colonies on plates were comparable to fluorescence at the single-cell level from a high-end, flow-cytometry device and developed a high-throughput image analysis pipeline. The barcode tagging-based long-read sequencing technique enabled rapid identification of all DNA parts and their combinations with a single sequencing experiment. Using our techniques, forty-four DNA parts (21 promoters and 23 RBSs) were successfully characterized in 72 h without any automated equipment. We anticipate that this high-throughput and easy-to-use part characterization technique will contribute to increasing part diversity and be useful for building genetic circuits and metabolic pathways in synthetic biology.

Redundant handovers cause degraded quality of service to passengers in vehicle. This paper proposes a handover scheme suitable for users traveling in vehicles, which enables continuous learning of the handover process using a discrete-time Markov chain (DTMC). Through AdaBoost machine learning algorithm, the proposed handover scheme avoids unnecessary handover trials when a short dwell time in a target cell is expected or when the target cell is an intermediate cell through which the vehicle quickly passes. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme reduces the number of handover occurrences and maintains adequate throughput.

In this paper, we propose a new frequency allocation method for improvement of edge and low 5% user throughputs. Although many kinds of inter cell interference mitigation methods have been proposed, those have still high complexity of implementation. The proposed algorithm has lower complexity and higher edge user throughput than conventional algorithms since the same frequency allocation method is applied in all cell. Finally, we analyze and compare the edge and low 5% user throughputs using a system level simulation (SLS).

Cognitive Radio system can guarantee available channel whenever, wherever by sensing surrounding channel condition. Therefore, there is a strict rule that have to use allocated channel efficiently without any interference from incumbent User. In this paper, to avoid interference which can occur during uplink transmission in CR system, we propose reporter using scheme which informs incumbent user's situation to adjacent cell to limit channel usage. Therefore, we can use more channel in each cell without interference. With this scheme we can expect better throughput using more channel in a large space with same resource.
This study describes a simple and rapid method for quantitative determination of $\gamma$-aminobutyric acid (GABA) using $^1H$ NMR spectroscopy from whole cell extracts of plant suspension cultures. When 9 cell lines derived from 8 species of higher plants maintained in liquid Marashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 1 mg/L 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) were subjected to $^1H$ NMR, a cell line of Coriandrum sativum L. exhibited the highest level of GABA. The level reached up to 16.9 mg/dry wt when cells were cultured in MS medium supplemented with 0.5 mg/L 2,4-D after 3 weeks of incubation. The method for quantitative determination of GABA using $^1H$ NMR established in this study could be applied to high-throughput screening of various plant resources for GABA production and the cell suspension culture system of C. sativum could be further developed for commercial production of GABA.
In a previous study, the sequential optimization and regulation of environmental parameters using the PhotoBiobox were demonstrated with high-throughput screening tests. In this study, we estimated changes in the biovolume-based composition of a polyculture built in vitro and composed of three algal strains: Chlorella sp., Scenedesmus sp., and Parachlorella sp. We performed this work using the PhotoBiobox under different temperatures (10-36℃) and light intensities (50-700 μmol m-2 s-1) in air and in 5% CO2. In 5% CO2, Chlorella sp. exhibited better adaptation to high temperatures than in air conditions. Pearson's correlation analysis showed that the composition of Parachlorella sp. was highly related to temperature whereas Chlorella sp. and Scenedesmus sp. showed negative correlations in both air and 5% CO2. Furthermore, light intensity slightly affected the composition of Scenedesmus sp., whereas no significant effect was observed in other species. Based on these results, it is speculated that temperature is an important factor in influencing changes in algal polyculture community structure (PCS). These results further confirm that the PhotoBiobox is a convenient and available tool for performance of lab-scale experiments on PCS changes. The application of the PhotoBiobox in PCS studies will provide new insight into polyculture-based ecology.
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a complicated neurodegenerative disorder although it is oftentimes defined by clinical motor symptoms originated from age dependent and progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons in the midbrain. The pathogenesis of PD involves dopaminergic and nondopaminergic neurons in many brain regions and the molecular mechanisms underlying the death of different cell types still remain to be elucidated. There are indications that PD causing disease processes occur in a global scale ranging from DNA to RNA, and proteins. Several PD-associated genes have been reported to play diverse roles in controlling cellular functions in different levels, such as chromatin structure, transcription, processing of mRNA, translational modulation, and posttranslational modification of proteins. The advent of quantitative high throughput screening (HTS) tools makes it possible to monitor systemic changes in DNA, RNA and proteins in PD models. Combined with dopamine neuron isolation or derivation of dopamine neurons from PD patient specific induced pluripotent stem cells (PD iPSCs), HTS techonologies will provide opportunities to draw PD causing sequences of molecular events in pathologically relevant PD samples. Here I discuss previous studies that identified molecular functions in which PD genes are involved, especially those signaling pathways that can be efficiently studied using HTS methodologies. Brief descriptions of quantitative and systemic tools looking at DNA, RNA and proteins will be followed. Finally, I will emphasize the use and potential benefits of PD iPSCs-derived dopaminergic neurons to screen signaling pathways that are initiated by PD linked gene mutations and thus causative for dopaminergic neurodegneration in PD.
To provide mobile nodes with continuous communication services, it is important to reduce the packet losses during handoffs. The handoffs of mobile nodes cause packet losses and decrease of TCP throughput on account of a variety of factors. One of those is the congestion in the new cell. Due to the congestion, not only the node moving into the cell but also the already existing nodes that were successfully communicating in the cell suffer the performance degradation. In this paper we propose a new handoff mechanism called‘packet freeze control’, which avoids the congestion caused by handoffs by regulating the influx of traffic burst into the new cell. Packet freeze control is applicable to a wireless network domain in which FAs(Foreign Agents) are connected hierarchically and constitute a logical tree. It gradually increases the number of packets transferred to the new cell by buffering packets in the FAs on the packet delivery path over the wireless network domain. The simulation results show that the proposed mechanism not only reduces the packet losses but also enhances the TCP throughput of other mobile nodes in the cell.

The CRE (Cell Range Expansion) that selects the small cell with more efficient uplink resources has been developed by 3GPP to relieve the problem of the traffic imbalance due to the power differences between macro and small cells in HetNet. In addition, ABS (Almost Blank Subframes) has been proposed to resolve the signal interference problem due to the operation CREs. This paper proposes an effective method to calculate the ABS ratio by considering the proportion of the number of UEs in CRE and macro cell ranges, as well as the number of small cells in a macro cell. The proposed method has been implemented on the LTESim simulator, and compared with previously proposed methods. The experimental results show that the proposed method can improve the throughput and packet loss ratio performances. In particular, it is also shown that CRE bias values affect those performances, and there exist effective CRE bias values to derive the best performances.
