This paper focuses on evaluating the performance of a cellular network using power control based frequency reuse partitioning (FRP) in downlink (DL). In our work, in order to have the realistic environment, the spectral efficiency of the system is evaluated through traffic analysis, which most of the previous works did not consider. To further decrease the cell edge user's outage, the concept of power ratio is introduced and applied to the DL FRP based cellular network. In considering network topology, we first divide the cell coverage area into two regions, the inner and outer regions. We then allocate different sub-bands in the inner and outer regions of each cell. In the analysis, for each zone ratio, the performance of FRP system is evaluated for the given number of power ratios. We consider performance metrics such as call blocking probability, channel utilization, outage probability and effective throughput. The simulation results show that there is a significant improvement in the outage experienced by outer UEs with power control scheme compared to that with no power control scheme and an increase in overall system throughput.

In this paper, we explain the unified inter-cell interference avoidance and cancellation in OFDM mobile cellular systems. Interference avoidance is used for cell-interior or two-cell-edge users, and interference cancellation is applied to three-cell-edge users. The performance of the unified scheme is evaluated by simplified system simulation. Link simulation results are used in the interpretation of system simulation output. We compare three schemes which are "no interference management," "only interference avoidance," "both avoidance and cancellation." Primary performance measures are the data rate of the 5th percentile user and the mean data rate. Simulation results show that interference management schemes greatly improve the cell edge performance, but slightly reduce the mean data rate. Use of both avoidance and cancelaltion is better than that of only avoidance in terms of the cell edge throughput and the mean data rate.
Recently ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) technology is facing challenges from Integrated Service IP(Internet Protocol), IP router, Gigabit Ethernet. Although ATM is approved by ITU-T as the standard technology in B-ISDN, its survival is still in question. In the ATM networks, the Guaranteed Frame Rate(GFR) service has been designed to accommodate non-real-time applications, such as TCP(Transmission Control Protocol)/IP based traffic. The GFR service not only guarantees a minimum throughput at the frame level, but also supports a fairshare of available resources. We have studied different discarding and scheduling schemes, and compared their throughput and fairness when TCP/IP Traffic is carried. Through simulations, we know that only per-VC queueing with weighted Round Robin(WRR) can guarantee Minimum Cell Rate Among all the Schemes that have been experimented, we recommend DT-EPD(Dynamic Threshold-Early Packet Discard) integrated with MCRplus(Minimum Cell Rate) to support the GFR service.

The use of high throughput screening (HTS) in drug development is principally for the selection new drug candidates or screening of chemical toxicants. This system minimizes the experimental environment and allows for the screening of candidates at the same time. Umbilical cord-derived stem cells have some of the characteristics of fetal stem cell and have several advantages such as the ease with which they can be obtained and lack of ethical issues. To establish a HTS system, optimized conditions that mimic typical cell culture conditions in a minimal space such as 96 well plates are needed for stem cell growth. We have thus established a novel HTS system using human umbilical cord derived-mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs). To determine the optimal cell number, hUC-MSCs were serially diluted and seeded at 750, 500, 200 and 100 cells per well on 96 well plates. The maintenance efficiencies of these dilutions were compared for 3, 7, 9, and 14 days. The fetal bovine serum (FBS) concentration (20, 10, 5 and 1%) and the cell numbers (750, 500 and 200 cells/well) were compared for 3, 5 and 7 days. In addition, we evaluated the optimal conditions for cell cycle block. These four independent optimization experiments were conducted using an MTT assay. In the results, the optimal conditions for a HTS system using hUC-MSCs were determined to be 300 cell/well cultured for 8 days with 1 or 5% FBS. In addition, we demonstrated that the optimal conditions for a cell cycle block in this culture system are 48 hours in the absence of FBS. In addition, we selected four types of novel small molecule candidates using our HTS system which demonstrates the feasibility if using hUC-MSCs for this type of screen. Moreover, the four candidate compounds can be tested for stem cell research application.

Next Generation Beyond 4G/5G systems will rely on the deployment of small cells over conventional macrocells for achieving high spectral efficiency and improved coverage performance, especially for indoor and hotspot environments. In such heterogeneous networks, the expected performance gains can only be derived with the use of efficient interference coordination schemes, such as Fractional Frequency Reuse (FFR), which is very attractive for its simplicity and effectiveness. In this work, femtocells are deployed according to a spatial Poisson Point Process (PPP) over hexagonally shaped, 6-sector macro base stations (MeNBs) in an uncoordinated manner, operating in hybrid mode. A newly introduced intermediary region prevents cross-tier, cross-boundary interference and improves user equipment (UE) performance at the boundary of cell center and cell edge. With tools of stochastic geometry, an analytical framework for the signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio (SINR) distribution is developed to evaluate the performance of all UEs in different spatial locations, with consideration to both co-tier and cross-tier interference. Using the SINR distribution framework, average network throughput per tier is derived together with a newly proposed harmonic mean, which ensures fairness in resource allocation amongst all UEs. Finally, the FFR network parameters are optimized for maximizing average network throughput, and the harmonic mean using a fair resource assignment constraint. Numerical results verify the proposed analytical framework, and provide insights into design trade-offs between maximizing throughput and user fairness by appropriately adjusting the spatial partitioning thresholds, the spectrum allocation factor, and the femtocell density.

This study analyzed the system level performance of the Mobile WiMAX-based TICN, and the effects of the use of BS-OTM in terms of the throughput of individual users as well as the overall system, assuming that other stationary BSs are distributed randomly. When BS-OTM is used, the CINRs decrease due to the additional interference from the BS-OTM from the perspective of SSs that are served by the same BS as when OTM BS is not used. On the other hand, from the perspective of SSs that had low CINRs, the CINRs increase significantly due to the new service from BS-OTM. Considering both effects, the cell throughput can be increased using BS-OTM. The CINR distribution and throughput of the overall system, changing the carrier frequency, position and velocity of the BS-OTM were also evaluated.

Small cells are deployed in Heterogeneous Networks (HetNet) to improve overall performance. These access points can provide high-rate mobile services at hotspots to users. In a Small Cell Network (SCN), the good deployment of small cells can guarantee the performance of users on the basis of average and cell edge spectrum efficiency. In this paper, the performance of small cell deployment is analyzed by using system-level simulations. The positions of small cells can be adjusted according to the deployment radius and angle. Moreover, different Inter-Cell Interference Coordination (ICIC) techniques are also studied, which can be implemented either in time domain or in frequency domain. The network performances are evaluated under different ICIC techniques when the locations of Small evolved Nodes (SeNBs) vary. Simulation results show that the average throughput and cell edge throughput can be greatly improved when small cells are properly deployed with the certain deployment radius and angle. Meanwhile, how to optimally configure the parameters to achieve the potential of the deployment is discussed when applying different ICIC techniques.
In a cellular network, if there are too many data users in a cell, data may suffer long delay, and system's quality-of-service (QoS) will degrade. Some traditional schemes such as dynamic channel-allocation scheme (DCA) will assign more channels to hot (or overloaded) cells through a central control system (CC) and the throughput increase will be upper bounded by the number of new channels assigned to the cell. In mobile-assisted data forwarding (MADF), we add an ad-hoc overlay to the fixed cellular infrastructure and special channels-called forwarding channels- are used to connect mobile units in a hot cell and its surrounding cold cells without going through the hot cell's base station. Thus, mobile units in a hot cell can forward data to other cold cells to achieve load balancing. Most of the forwarding-channel management work in MADF is done by mobile units themselves in order to relieve the load from the CC. The traffic increase in a certain cell will not be upper bounded by the number of forwarding channels. It can be more if the users in hot cell are significantly far away from one another and these users can use the same forwarding channels to forward data to different cold neighboring cells without interference. We find that, in a system using MADF, under a certain delay requirement, the throughput in a certain cell or for the whole net-work can be greatly improved.

This paper proposes a resource allocation scheme suitable for D2D communications in multi-cell environment. In order to solve the inter-cell interference, the proposed scheme allocates the pre-assigned resource group and shares the information with neighbor cells. This paper also proposes a power control scheme for D2D communication to enhance the cell throughput. By the simulation results, the average SINR of the cellular uplink and D2D communication link are mostly higher than 10 dB when the proposed scheme is applied. On the other hand, with the inter-cell non-coordinated resource allocation scheme, the average SINR of the D2D communication link are decreased by 0 dB. In addition, the proposed scheme can enhance the cell throughput up to 8 % compared with the inter-cell non-coordinated resource allocation scheme.
