  • The killing of bacteria by mechanical forces on nanopatterned surfaces has been defined as a mechano-bactericidal effect. Inspired by nature, this method is a new-generation technology that does not cause toxic effects and antibiotic resistance. This study aimed to simulate the mechano-bactericidal effect of nanopatterned surfaces' geometric parameters and material properties against three implant-derived bacterial species. Here, in silico models were developed to explain the interactions between the bacterial cell and the nanopatterned surface. Numerical solutions were performed based on the finite element method. Elastic and creep deformation models of bacterial cells were created. Maximum deformation, maximum stress, maximum strain, as well as mortality of the cells were calculated. The results showed that increasing the peak sharpness and decreasing the width of the nanopatterns increased the maximum deformation, stress, and strain in the walls of the three bacterial cells. The increase in spacing between nanopatterns increased the maximum deformation, stress, and strain in E. coli and P. aeruginosa cell walls it decreased in S. aureus. The decrease in width with the increase in sharpness and spacing increased the mortality of E. coli and P. aeruginosa cells, the same values did not cause mortality in S. aureus cells. In addition, it was determined that using different materials for nanopatterns did not cause a significant change in stress, strain, and deformation. This study will accelerate and promote the production of more efficient mechano-bactericidal implant surfaces by modeling the geometric structures and material properties of nanopatterned surfaces together.

  • In ultra-precision machining, the inside temperature should be controlled precisely. The important factors are environmental conditions (outside temperature, humidity) and temperature conditions (cutting heat, spindle heat). Thus, in this study, an environmental control cell for the ultra-precision machine that could control the inside temperature and minimize effects of the surrounding environment to achieve a thermal deformation of less than 400nm of a specimen was designed and verified through C.F.D. Further, a method that could control the temperature precisely by using a blower, heat exchanger and heater was evaluated. As a result, this study established a C.F.D technic for the environmental control cell, and the specimen temperature was controlled to be within $17.465{\pm}0.055^{\circ}C$.

  • In recent, it is said that the trend of LCD is direction to pursue high qualities like as high transmittance, high contrast ratio, wide viewing angle, fast response time, and so on. Especially, it is known that these qualities are essential to large size LCD like as LCD TV and we can realize them through to uniform cell gap and deep black state. Until now, the ball spacer has been used to control of uniform cell gap. However, the existence of ball spacer inside the cell causes the deformation of the liquid crystal molecules and damage to alignment layer. Such a deformation of the liquid crystal causes light-leakage in the dark state, which lowers contrast ratio of the display. Nowadays, this problem has been solved by using Patterned Spacer on Color Filter. but Side Effect just as gravity mura has been induced. In this paper, we studied the mechanism on gravity mura in case of using patterned spacer on color filter.

  • In this study, a metal-supported SOFC was fabricated using a relatively cheap and simple process. The adhesion process between ceramic cell and metal support was performed in high temperature over $1400^{\circ}C$ and the deformation of large metal-supported cell happened in this process. Using bi-layered metal support fabricated by diffusion bonding, the deformation of the metal-supported cell can be minimized and the sealing efficiency of anode and cathode was improved. The flatness of the cell was improved by over 20% and the maximum power density of over 0.5 $Wcm^{-2}$ was obtained at the operation condition of $800^{\circ}C$.

  • Foam structure is usually hard to model due to the complexity of the geometry of cells. So, many simplified models to represent complicated foam structures have been proposed, but most of them are not actually describe the random feature of the cell structure well. So, in this study, two dimensional isotropic and anisotropic closed cell structures of the foam were modeled using the concept of Voronoi cells. The elasto-plastic deformation behavior under compressive loads was investigated by finitie element analysis, and the results were compared with ideal honeycomb structure. In addition, the effect of anisotropy of Voronoi cell structures of the foam on Young's modulus and yield stress under compressive loads was studied.

  • This research has been performed in order to investigate the effect of prior deformation on the Ms temperature and reversed As of Fe-Ni alloy. The Ms temperature rose with increment of strain to 30% but lowered over 50%. It can be analysed that martensitic transformation was promoted by partial dislocation in low strain, but suppressed by dislocation cell structures in high strain. The As temperature was substantially increased with higher deformation to 20% but slowly above 50%. It may be caused that as the transition bands formed by deformation constrained shear strain, therefore austenitic transformation was hindered.

  • Cyclic deformations of polymer foam film are simulated using the finite element method. Material of polymer foam film is polypropylene (PP). The calculated polymer foam film is micro-scale thin film has cellular structure. The polymer foam film is used in ferro-electret applications. The polymer foam film is idealized to one cell structure as lens shaped stretched truncated octahedron model. Cyclic deformation is performed by uniaxial stretching. Stretching direction is perpendicular to plane of cellular film. Various cyclic strain amplitudes, pore wall thicknesses, pore shape are investigated to find deformation tendency of cellular structure. Consequently, cellular structure has various macroscopic stresses on cyclic deformation with various pore thickness and pore shape.

  • This study was performed to analyze the variation of various physicochemical factors related to the freshness of apple and tomato during post-harvest period. The total soluble solids content, uronic acid content, cell surface roughness. density, rupture deformation and rupture force were measured for 39 days at 7-day intervals for apple and for 11 days at 2-day intervals for tomato. respectively. The cell surface roughness of apple increased with the elapsed time, while the rupture force decreased. In case of tomato, uronic acid content, density and rupture deformation increased with the elapsed time whereas the rupture force decreased. Both apple and tomato exhibited the significant correlations among those physicochemical factors.

  • Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is used as a scaffold for cell culture. Because both the stress and strain acting on the substrate and the hemodynamic environment are important for studying mechano-transduction of cellular function, the traction force of the surface of a substrate has been measured using fluorescence images of particle distribution. In this study, deformation of the cross-sectional plane of a PDMS block was measured by correlating particle image distributions to validate the particle image strain measurement technique. Deformation was induced by a cone indentor and a shearing parallel plate. Measured deformations from particle image distributions were in agreement with the results of a computational structure analysis using the finite-element method. This study demonstrates that the particle image correlation method facilitates measurement of deformation of a polymer scaffold in the cross-sectional plane.
