The results of this can be summarized as follow : 1. The publication of indexes are concentrated on some subject fields including those of social science. And there should be general indexes in the fields of the humanities and pure sciences for the researches in these fields to consult. 2. The titles of the indexes are represented by various forms. 3. The materials included are extended to all types of them including monographs, serials, these and dissertations, and newspapers, so that enhances the usefulness of the subject indexes. 4. Most of indexes are published in quarterly or yearly and seldom publish the cumulative editions. 5. Most of indexes(140 titles, 90%) are classified indexes. 6. The descriptions include basic elements of author, title, translator, contributed title, issue number, date, pages, etc, in the case of most of indexes. 7. Cross reference are seldom used, because most of indexes are classified ones. 8. Auxiliary indexes or a n.0, ppendixes are not included in 34 titles of 21%.

To this end, first discussed is the meaning of Discovery, which has a variety definitions. For the quality evaluation, 5 criteria were developed on the basis of literature review. Then this study conducted the quality evaluation on the basis of previously developed 5 criteria and usefulness of Discovery in library catalogs is thoroughly discussed. Based on these, the final discussion includes strategies for Korean LIS scholars and library practitioners to consider when applying Discovery as an integrated search tool.

  • In this study, A DDC online system was developed which provides subject access and browsing function for class numbers or subject terms. A knowledgebase of the DDC Schedules and Relative Index was designed for this purpose using IBM-PC. From the DDC 20th edition, subjects from 004 to 006, covering‘data processing’,‘computer science’‘programming and progrms’, and etc., were selected for this experiment. DDC schedules are represented as a frame structure which is apt to describe hierachical structures. This experiment, joining the DDC to the information retrieval environment of an online catalog, will contribute to the future of the online DDC system by providing possiblities for search strategies not feasible through the alphabetical approach of subject headings and keywords presently supported by online catalogs.

In addition, it introduced application examples of Library 2.0 using Web 2.0 technology in foreign and domestic libraries and suggested how to apply SOA based Web Services protocol in Library 2.0. Finally, it proposed how to put Library 2.0 into practice applying meta-searching system integrating library OPAC, online bookstores, web portal sites and library union catalogs using REST based Open API.

  • As resource sharing becomes more active and complicated in academic libraries, a better understanding of how librarians-a key stakeholder-view the current level of resource sharing is needed. Using survey method, this study collected data regarding the Perception of 78 librarians with regard to interlibrary loan, document delivery, union catalog construction, shared acquisition, and community building. Overall, the respondents evaluated well-established forms of resource sharing(interlibrary loan, document delivery, and union catalog construction) more positively than less-well developed ones(shared acquisition and community building). Correlation analysis between perception of library/individual characteristics was conducted. Barriers to each of the five areas of resource sharing are also identified in the study.

To the end, issues associated with FRBR implementation are analyzed, and automatic algorithms to covert bibliographic records into FRBR model are examined thoroughly. On the basis of it. this study implemented four-level hierarchical bibliographic structure of FRBR model using existing KORMARC records. 161 sample records for an experiment were selected from Korea national library. The work chosen as sample records was "Hamlet." Results suggest that considerable difficulties would be encountered in the process of FRBRizing KORMARC records.

  • The goal of this study was to examine the relationships between usability and the searching experience, and to uncover where an integrated cataloging and metadata system lay the usability problems of its primary users, catalogers. This study showed that the most important aspect of usability in Connexion lay in the experience of information retrieval system. Also, it showed there are seventeen usability problems to be improved in Connexion. Needless to say, it is most important to note that usability is not an exclusive goal of such an integrated cataloging and metadata system. Other goals such as quality of catalogs, and the reliability of its cataloging and metadata system are equally its concern. This study also suggested more testing on diverse cataloging systems and specific user groups, especially catalogers.
