PURPOSE. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the accuracy of three techniques for correction of cast implant bars. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Thirty cast implant bars were fabricated on a metal master model. All cast implant bars were sectioned at 5 mm from the left gold cylinder using a disk of 0.3 mm thickness, and then each group of ten specimens was corrected by gas-air torch soldering, laser welding, and additional casting technique. Three dimensional evaluation including horizontal, vertical, and twisting measurements was based on measurement and comparison of (1) gap distances of the right abutment replica-gold cylinder interface at buccal, distal, lingual side, (2) changes of bar length, and (3) axis angle changes of the right gold cylinders at the step of the post-correction measurements on the three groups with a contact and non-contact coordinate measuring machine. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and paired t-test were performed at the significance level of 5%. RESULTS. Gap distances of the cast implant bars after correction procedure showed no statistically significant difference among groups. Changes in bar length between pre-casting and post-correction measurement were statistically significance among groups. Axis angle changes of the right gold cylinders were not statistically significance among groups. CONCLUSION. There was no statistical significance among three techniques in horizontal, vertical and axial errors. But, gas-air torch soldering technique showed the most consistent and accurate trend in the correction of implant bar error. However, Laser welding technique, showed a large mean and standard deviation in vertical and twisting measurement and might be technique-sensitive method.
Bored pre-cast piles using PHC piles is widely used in foundation of building structures constructed in urban areas because noise and vibration due to pile installation are low. However, since slime is formed at the base of borehole and the density of bearing stratum surrounding the base of borehole is decreased due to stress relaxation in drilling process of bored pre-cast pile method, the base load capacity of bored pre-cast piles is very low compared to the strength of bearing stratum. In this study, a new type of PHC pile, which short steel pipe with the same diameter as the PHC pile is attached to the pile tip, is developed to increase the base load capacity of bored pre-cast piles. In order to check the effect of the use of new PHC pile on the base load capacity of bored pre-cast piles, field pile load tests are performed for bored pre-cast piles using the new and existing PHC piles. Results of the pile load tests show that the new PHC pile gives higher base load capacity to bored pre-cast piles than the existing PHC pile, since the tip of new PHC pile is penetrated to undisturbed bearing stratum passing through the slime at the base of borehole and the loosened bearing stratum under the slime by pile driving using light hammer.

Objectives in this study are to stabilize the organic sludges which were produced from papermill wastewater, nightsoil treatment facilities and utilized as foods for earthworm, to find the method for using the cast which was orginated by earthworm as fertilizer, and ultimately to develop the practical technique to solve the environmental problems by optimization of wastes treatment. The results of this study were summarized as follows. In the investigation for fertilizer effect of cast, germination rates of cucumber, tomato, and cabbage were investigated. The germination status of 3 types of plants was excellent as over 90% in the combination case of 30-45% cast. In the investigation for fertilizer effect of cast derived from nightsoil sludge, the growing status of cucumber, tomato, and cabbage was excellent in the combination case of 30-45% cast. In the experiment for fertilizer effect investigation of cast derived from papermill sludge, the growing status of cucumber, tomato, and cabbage was excellent in the combination case of 30-45% cast. Also, in the combination case of 60% cast, plants growth was not disturbed.
This study is related to save the bearing capacity from using Meyerhof formula namely, static mechanics formula with the S.P.T(N value) of the soft ground and is to choose the soft ground improvement method by the using of total load for the proper method of the pile foundation and then to design the most suitable pile foundation to fit the actual circumstance. The purpose of this study is calculating the diameter of the pile foundation by static mechanics formula and introducing the optimum design condition from the result of the bearing capacity for using N value of the S.P.T obtained from the deep soft ground about the piles such as P.H.C pile, pipe and cast-in-place pile of big diameter, etc. As above-mentioned, it is considered that the use of P.H.C pile or pipe pile is advisable on the synthetical investigation and that the selection of cast-in-place pile method is desirable in terms of the constructive safety and durability.

In case of underground construction affected by groundwater, CIP (Cast-In-Place Pile) method is generally used to resolve the geo-hydraulic problem. However, as this method has poor connectivity between piles, an auxiliary method for cut-off is needed in many cases. In this study, a new concept earth retaining wall method (H-CIP) with no auxiliary method, by using surfactant grout (Hi-FA) which improves antiwashout and infiltration ability, is introduced, and its field applicability is evaluated. CIP and H-CIP piles were installed with same ground conditions, and field and laboratory tests were conducted to verify the performance. As results, newly contrived H-CIP method shows higher field performance for cut-off and strength than conventional CIP method.

In this study, the casting process using forged insert was investigated to characterize the manufacturing process by which good mechanical properties can be obtained when compared with existing casting products. Process analysis for the casting design was performed by using FVM (Finite Volume Method) software. In filling process, three kinds of candidate gating systems are considered and analyzed respectively. The molten metal behavior in gating system is so important that it affects the solidification behavior of the cast.

In most of large panel pre-cast concrete system, the narrow joints have inefficiency to assemble several panels and structural problems due to their complicated process after construction. To improve, practically, structural performance and inefficiency to assemble, the behavior and strength of new wide joints method should be investigated experimentally. The result is that the shear force of wide joints is similar to that of loop joints, or more than. It seems that the use of wide joints is the possible methods in a construction field.
In this study, the casting process using forged insert was investigated to characterize the manufacturing process by which good mechanical properties can be obtained when compared with existing casting products. Process analysis for the casting design was performed by using FVM (Finite Volume Method) software. In pouring process, three kinds of candidate gating systems are considered and analyzed respectively. The molten metal behavior in gating system is so important that it affects the solidification behavior of the cast. The results show that as the number of gates is increased, hardness of cast was increased and gaps of cast with forged insert were decreased.

In the present study, (10%$Al_2O_3$+5%Si)/AZ91 Mg hybrid composite was fabricated using the squeeze casting method. During squeeze casting, molten Mg was infiltrated into the preform of 10%$Al_2O_3$+5%Si and reaction product of $Mg_2Si$ intermetallic compound was formed by the reaction between molten Mg and Si powder. Microstructure has been observed and mechanical properties were evaluated for the reaction squeeze cast (RSC) hybrid composite. It was found that Si powder totally reacted with molten Mg to form $Mg_2Si$. Reinforcement ($Al_2O_3$) and the reaction product ($Mg_2Si$) are fairly uniformly distributed in Mg matrix for the squeeze cast hybrid composite. Mechanical properties were improved with hybridization of reinforcements, namely higher hardness and enhanced wear resistance comparing squeeze cast (15%$Al_2O_3$)/AZ91 Mg composite.
In this study, the effects of the pouring temperature, preheating temperature, surface condition and fraction of the wear resistant part on the production of duo-castings were investigated using a high Cr white cast iron with excellent abrasion resistance and a low Cr alloy steel with good toughness. The constituent materials of the duo-castings were designed to have high hardness, fracture toughness and abrasive wear resistance for the replacement of high Mn alloy steels with low abrasive wear resistance. In particular, the amount of abrasive wear of 17% Cr white cast iron was about 1/20 of that of high Mn alloy steel. There was an intermediate area of about 3mm due to local melting at the bonding interface of the duo-castings. These intermediate regions were different from those of the constituent materials in chemical composition and microstructure. This region led to fracture within the wear resistant part rather than at the bonding interface in the bending strength test. The bending fracture strengths were 516-824 MPa, which were equivalent to the bending proof strength of high Mn steel. The effects of various casting conditions on the duo-cast behavior were studied by simple pouring of low Cr alloy steel melt, but the results proved practically impossible to manufacture duo-castings with a sound bonding interface. However, the external heating method was suitable for the production of duo-castings with a sound bonding interface.
