  • Klein proved that polynomial rings over nil rings of bounded index are also nil of bounded index; while Puczylowski and Smoktunowicz described the nilradical of a power series ring with an indeterminate. We extend these results to those with any set of commuting indeterminates. We also study prime radicals of power series rings over some class of rings containing the case of bounded index, finding some examples which elaborate our arguments; and we prove that R is a PI ring of bounded index then the power series ring R[[X]], with X any set of indeterminates over R, is also a PI ring of bounded index, obtaining the Klein's result for polynomial rings as a corollary.

  • The rate of convergence to a random variable S for an almost certainly convergent series $S_n = \sum^n_{j=1} X_j$ of independent random variables is studied in this paper. More specifically, when $S_n$ converges to S almost certainly, the tail series $T_n = \sum^{\infty}_{j=n} X_j$ is a well-defined sequence of random variable with $T_n \to 0$ a.c. Various sets of conditions are provided so that for a given numerical sequence $0 < b_n = o(1)$, the tail series strong law of large numbers $b^{-1}_n T_n \to 0$ a.c. holds. Moreover, these results are specialized to the case of the weighted i.i.d. random varialbes. Finally, example are provided and an open problem is posed.

  • Cointegration(together with VARMA(vector ARMA)) has been proven to be useful for analyzing multivariate non-stationary data in the field of financial time series. It provides a linear combination (which turns out to be stationary series) of non-stationary component series. This linear combination equation is referred to as long term equilibrium between the component series. We consider two sets of Korean bivariate financial time series and then illustrate cointegration analysis. Specifically estimated VAR(vector AR) and VECM(vector error correction model) are obtained and CV(cointegrating vector) is found for each data sets.

  • Objectives : This article aims to give guidance on the conduct and reporting of case series and audits of acupuncture, based on common problems that have arisen in the past. This type of project, and particularly the prospective case series or pre- post-intervention study, may give valuable evidence of the overall effectiveness of acupuncture-for example in different situations and in different conditions- and provides one step in the research pathway before generating an hypothesis. Results & Discussion : The project should be designed with the aim of reducing bias as much as possible. Careful and detailed planning is essential for the project to produce worthwhile results that readers can evaluate and replicate. Ethical issues should be considered and formal approval may be necessary. The patient group should be recruited systematically and baseline data obtained. The treatment given should be systematic and decisions to change or end treatment made explicit. The outcome should be measured in ways that are known to be reliable and valid. Musculoskeletal problems can be evaluated with scales for pain and confirmed by measuring one other symptom such as stiffness or one other aspect such as bothersomeness. Global change scores also provide supporting information, and the MYMOP (Measure Yourself Medical Outcome Profile) measure is popular when patients with different conditions are included. The design of questionnaires for beliefs and attitudes is a specialised area that should not be attempted without expert help. Adverse events should also be recorded. Analysis of the data and the best way of summarising and presenting the results are also discussed.

  • The self-controlled case series (SCCS) study measures the relative risk of exposure to exposure period by setting the non-exposure period of the patient as the control period without a separate control group. This method minimizes the bias that occurs when selecting a control group and is often used to measure the risk of adverse events after taking a drug. This study used SCCS to examine the increased risk of side effects when two or more drugs are used in combination. A conditional Poisson model is assumed and analyzed for drug interaction between the narcotic analgesic, tramadol and multi-frequency combination drugs. Bayesian inference is used to solve the overfitting problem of MLE and the normal or Laplace prior distributions are used to measure the sensitivity of the prior distribution.

  • Objectives : Chronic pelvic pain (CPP) is a common gynecologic symptoms. Various diseases, specially irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), ovarian cysts, and endometriosis, can occur CPP, but the medicines and the operations which used on these diseases have many side effects and even if patients get treatments, pain usually remain due to the pathology is not accord with the pain or the cause is not clear. There are some cases about effective of the Korean medicine therapies, but cases are still deficiency and case series has not been reported. We have a case series of CPP treated by Korean medicine treatment, so we report a case series on CPP. Methods : 6 patients, who suffered from CPP, were enrolled in this study. They received Korean medicine therapies such as herbal medicine, moxibustion, and acupuncture. Results : CPP was reduced by Korean medicine therapies. Conclusions : The present study suggests that Korean medicine therapies have a effect on CPP.

  • While carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most common entrapment neuropathy affecting the wrist, resulting in substantial physical, psychological, and economic effects, there is no gold standard therapy for CTS. In this case series study, we aimed to report CTS patients treated with Carthami Semen Pharmacopuncture (CSP) and electroacupuncture (EA) showing improvements in their symptoms, and the combinatorial effects of CSP and EA. We collected medical records of CTS outpatients who received CSP and EA at Chuku Acupuncture & Moxibustion Korean Medicine Clinic from August 2017 to September 2018. The outcome measures were the visual analog scale (VAS) for pain, paresthesia, the Korean version of the Boston carpal tunnel questionnaire (K-BCTQ) score, and changes in nocturnal pain, Tinel sign, and Phalen's test. We included patient satisfaction at the completion of all treatments. 17 patients were included for this case series study. After treatment, VAS for pain decreased significantly from 50.41 ± 16.19 to 9.59 ± 9.46, VAS for paresthesia also decreased significantly from 63.50 ± 11.49 to 14.75 ± 12.97, and K-BCTQ symptom severity scale decreased from 2.48 ± 0.68 to 1.89 ± 0.70 (all p < 0.001). Nocturnal pain, Tinel signs, and Phalen's test showed improvements after all the treatments. All the patients reported favorable overall satisfaction with the treatments, and 69.23% wanted future pharmacopuncture treatments if CTS recurred. No complications were detected. The combination of CSP and EA could be an effective and safe option in treating CTS.

  • Objectives : The aim of this study is to set out case series study protocol to complete clinical pathway (CP) of hip and finger degenerative arthritis by applying CP, based on Korean medicine clinical practice guideline developed by clinical experts, to clinical field. Methods : The treatments included Manual acupuncture, acupoint injection, electroacupuncture, laser acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion, chuna, and physiotherapy. They were conducted in the 2nd week of admission and 4th week of out patient department (OPD) days. We carried out 10-point Likert scale questionnaires on the clinical usefulness and the satisfaction of patients and staff after applying CP. Appropriateness and improvement on patients were conducted using a 10-point Likert scale. An open-ended questionnaire was also conducted to ask if there was any requirement to be added. Results : In past research studies, there were no related studies about Korean medicine CP on hip and finger degenerative arthritis. Final version of CP is going to be completed based on the questionnaire. Conclusions : This evidence-based case series study protocol is expected to contribute development of hip and finger degenerative arthritis.

  • It is common practice in the case of optimum reservoir operation model that the reservoir inflow series are generated by stochastic model with keeping other variable such as water demands from the reservoir constant. However, when the input and output of the water distribution system have close relationship the output variables can be stochastically generated in relation with the input variables. In the present study the reservoir inflow series, the input of the system, is generated by periodic autoregressive model with constant parameter, and the agricultural water demand series, the output, is generated using periodic multivariate autoregressive model with constant parameter. The time period of the data series generated is taken as 10-day which is the common period used for agricultural water uses. The results of data generation by two different models showed that the periodic stochastic models well represent the characteristics of the historical time series, and that in the case of generating model for agricultural demand series it has closer relation with reservoir inflow than with the series itself.

  • Korean unvoiced phonemes consist of nonstationary parts comparing that the vowels and nasal consonants consist of quasi-stationary part. And some phonemes, which have smae point of articulation but differnt manner of articulation, has similar characteristics, so it makes to be hard to distinguish each other. A new method usin gchanges and characteristics of acoustic properties of these phonemes to improve recognition rate are proposed. And because these changes and cahracteristics evidently occur in continuous speech except some unvoiced consonants are articulated as voiced phoneme in case to be used as an midial between voiced phonemes, this method can be applied easily. The features of the frames extracted to represent each phonemes are used asinputs to the hierarchical neural network. And with these results final decision for phoneme recognition is made thorugh post processing which the new method is applied to. Through the experimental recognition results for 9 unvoiced consonants which belong to bilabial, alveolar, and velar phoneme series, 89.4% recognition rate to distinguish in same phoneme series is obtained, and 85.6% recognition rate is obtained in case of including cistinguishing phoneme series.
