Digital Science's Dimensions is envisaged as a next-generation research and discovery platform for more efficient access to cross-referenced scholarly publications, grants, patents, and clinical trials. As a new addition to the growing open citation resources, it offers opportunities that may benefit a wide variety of stakeholders of scientific publications, from researchers and policy makers to the general public. In this article, we explore and demonstrate some of the practical potentials in terms of cascading citation expansions. Given a set of publications, the cascading citation expansion process can be iteratively applied to a set of articles so as to extend the coverage to more and more relevant articles through citation links. Although the conceptual origin can be traced back to Garfield's citation indexing, it has been largely limited, until recently, to the few who have unrestricted access to a citation database that is large enough to sustain such iterative expansions. Building on the open application program interface of Dimensions, we integrate cascading citation expansion functions in CiteSpace and demonstrate how one may benefit from these new capabilities. In conclusion, cascading citation expansion has the potential to improve our understanding of the structure and dynamics of scientific knowledge.

This paper is focusing on the comparison of different kinds of BPFs(Band Pass Filters) passing signals with a particular frequency band. According to the different classifications, features and target application systems, BPF has many types. Chebyshev filter which has a steep slope and a few ripples, and Butterworth filter which has no ripple but gentle slope are the most typical BPFs. The ideal filter is flat in the passband and the slope in the transition band is perpendicular. In this paper, we suggest the cascading Chebyshev BPF with the advantages of the Chebyshev filter and the Butterworth filter simultaneously to make a closest filter to an ideal filter. The proposing BPF is the tenth Chebyshev BPF cascading the fourth and the sixth, and it is designed as the tenth cascading Chebyshev BPF. To measure the performance of the designing filter, we have compared and analyzed the tenth Chebyshev filter with the tenth Butterworth filter. As a result, the tenth cascading Chebyshev BPF has decreased the ripple more than 1/4 [dB] in the passband. Finally, the output of the simulation showed the validity of the proposing cascading Chebyshev filter.
The integration of the large-scale wind power brings great challenge to the stability of the power grid. This paper investigates and studies the fault on May 14, 2012 of the large-scale cascading trip-off of wind turbines in North China. According to the characteristics of the voltage variation, the fault process is divided into three stages: the pre-event stage, the critical stage before cascading, and the cascading stage. The scenes in the fault are reproduced, using the full-size actual power system model. Simulation models of double-fed induction generators (DFIGs) and SVCs including protection settings and controller strategies are carefully chosen to find out the reason of voltage instability in each stage. Some voltage dynamic that have never been observed before in the faults of the same kind are analyzed in detail, and an equivalent voltage sensitive dynamic model of DFIG is proposed for the fast computation. The conclusions about the voltage dynamics are validated by the actual PMU observation evidence.
This paper discusses a technique that can detect cascading disturbances for automated monitoring and diagnosis systems in power plants. A multi-layered directed AND/OR graph called a disturbance interrelation analysis graph (DIAG) is utilized to represent the relationships among cascading disturbances and trace them. Disturbances that cannot be observed directly from sensors can be traced using techniques similar to interpolations and extrapolations on the DIAG.
This paper presents the use of sequential outage checkers to identify the potential cascading processes that might lead to large blackouts. In order to analyze cascading outages caused by a combination of thermal overloads, low voltages, and under-frequencies following an initial disturbance, sequential outage checkers are proposed. The proposed sequential outage checkers are verified using the AEP 9-bus system, New England 39-bus system, and IEEE 118-bus system.
Electron magnetohydrodynamic (EMHD) turbulence provides a fluid-like description of small-scale magnetized plasmas. Most EMHD turbulence studies consider "balanced" EMHD turbulence. However, imbalanced EMHD turbulence has never been studied. In this study, we numerically study "imbalanced" EMHD turbulence. Imbalanced turbulence means that wave packets moving in one direction have high amplitudes or strong perturbations than the others. In driven imbalanced EMHD turbulence, non-zero magnetic helicity is injected. When magnetic helicity is injected at a scale, we expect to have inverse cascade of magnetic helicity, as well as magnetic energy, in three-dimensional (3D) EMHD turbulence. For no helicity injection, we do not observe inverse energy cascade. However, when magnetic helicity is injected, inverse cascade of magnetic helicity is clearly observed. Magnetic energy also shows inverse cascade. In EMHD turbulence, it is well known that magnetic energy on scales smaller than the energy injection scale is forward-cascading quantity and the magnetic energy spectrum follows a k^{-7/3} one. On the other hand, the inverse-cascading entity on scales larger than the energy injection scale is uncertain. If the magnetic helicity is inverse-cascading quantity, we will obtain a k^{-5/3} magnetic energy spectrum. In our simulations, we do observe energy spectrum consistant with k^{-5/3} on large scales. Therefore, we confirm that magnetic helicity indeed is the inverse-cascading entity in 3D EMHD turbulence.

This study is focusing on the trade-offs between the passband ripples and transition bands of the Chebyshev BPF, which is converted by using the Chebyshev LPF that is well known as a proto-type analog filter. It is also focusing on the trade-offs between the passband ripples and transition bands of the cascading Chebyshev BPF, as well as, the trade-offs between the two BPFs. The study finds the frequency responses of the proto-type analog LPF, the Chebyshev BPF and the cascading Chebyshev BPF. The study shows the results as comparative analysis tables. The study designs the 10th Chebyshev BPF in order to analyze it easily. The simulation results show that the Chebyshev BPF decreases about 55% of the transition band for the -2.5[dB] passband ripple comparing to the -0.5[dB] passband ripple. This study shows the effectiveness and economic feasibility in the restricted frequency communication environment for the decrease of the transition band as providing the passband ripple margin.

This paper presents a novel framework for analysis of power system wide-area blackout based on so called fault cascading scenarios. For a given power system operating state, "triggering" faults or a "seed faults" are chosen based on the probabilities estimated from the hazard rates. The fault probabilities reflect both the load and the weather conditions. Effects of hidden failures in protection systems are also reflected in establishing the fault propagation scenarios since they are one of the major causes for the wide-area blackouts. A tree type data structure called a PS-BEST(Power System Blackout Event Scenario Tree) is proposed for construction of the fault cascading scenarios, in which nodes represent various power system operating states and the arcs are the events causing transitions between the states. Arcs can be either probabilistic or deterministic. For a given initial fault, the total probability of leading to wide-area blackout is estimated by aggregating the individual probability of each fault sequence route leading to wide-area blackout. A case study is performed on the IEEE RTS-79(24 bus) system based on the fault data presented by the North American Electrical Reliability Council(NERC). Test results demonstrate the potentials and the effectiveness of the proposed technique for the future wide-area blackout analysis.
Defect detection is one of the key factors in fabric quality control. To improve the speed and accuracy of denim fabric defect detection, this paper proposes a defect detection algorithm based on cascading feature extraction architecture. Firstly, this paper extracts these weight parameters of the pre-trained VGG16 model on the large dataset ImageNet and uses its portability to train the defect detection classifier and the defect recognition classifier respectively. Secondly, retraining and adjusting partial weight parameters of the convolution layer were retrained and adjusted from of these two training models on the high-definition fabric defect dataset. The last step is merging these two models to get the defect detection algorithm based on cascading architecture. Then there are two comparative experiments between this improved defect detection algorithm and other feature extraction methods, such as VGG16, ResNet-50, and Xception. The results of experiments show that the defect detection accuracy of this defect detection algorithm can reach 94.3% and the speed is also increased by 1-3 percentage points.
This paper presents a comprehensive scheme for assessing the importance of multiple microgrids (MGs) network that includes distributed energy resources (DERs), renewable energy systems (RESs), and energy storage system (ESS) facilities. Due to the uncertainty of severe weather, large-scale cascading failures are inevitable in energy networks. making the assessment of the structural vulnerability of the energy network an attractive research theme. This attention has led to the identification of the importance of measuring energy nodes. In multiple MG networks, the energy nodes are regarded as one MG. This paper presents a modified PageRank algorithm to assess the importance of MGs that include multiple DERs and ESS. With the importance rank order list of the multiple MG networks, the core MG (or node) of power production and consumption can be identified. Identifying such an MG is useful in preventing cascading failures by distributing the concentration on the core node, while increasing the effective link connection of the energy flow and energy trade. This scheme can be applied to identify the most profitable MG in the energy trade market so that the deployment operation of the MG connection can be decided to increase the effectiveness of energy usages. By identifying the important MG nodes in the network, it can help improve the resilience and robustness of the power grid system against large-scale cascading failures and other unexpected events. The proposed algorithm can point out which MG node is important in the MGs power grid network and thus, it could prevent the cascading failure by distributing the important MG node's role to other MG nodes.
