A Study on the Impact of Career Maturity on the Protean Career Attitude and the Subjective Career Success of College Students (대학생의 진로성숙도가 프로티언 경력태도와 주관적 경력성공에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted in order to raise a question regarding limitations of career guidance as career guidance programs for university students are limited to career planning and preparation and fail to deal with career management after being employed. Accordingly, it investigated the effects of career maturity, which is mainly studied among university students, on protean career attitude and effects of protean career attitude on subjective career success. To that end, this study built a research model based on the effects of career maturity and protean career attitude on subjective career success of university students and analyzed data collected from 273 university students based on the research model. The result showed that career maturity of university students had positive effects on their protean career attitude. Especially, in career maturity, planning and independence had significant effects on protean career attitude. However, in career maturity attitude, attitude toward work had negative effects. Also, protean career attitude of university students had significant effects on subjective career success. This study aimed to explain the relationship between career of university students and relevant behaviors and perception by clarifying the structural relationship among planning, independence, attitude toward work, protean career attitude, and subjective career success. Based on the results of this study, it was suggested that career management theory should be newly introduced into career guidance program of university students.

Factors influencing Career Attitude Maturity in Middle School Students (중학생의 진로태도성숙에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine factors influencing career attitude maturity in middle school students. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, Anova, correlation, and multiple regression using SPSS 18.0. The major findings of this study were as follows: First, the degree of career attitude maturity in female students is higher than male students. Second, career perception makes a difference in the level of career attitude maturity. Third, career attitude maturity is related to gender, career perception, and career activity satisfaction in middle school students. These results imply that the school should have multiple approaches - providing abundant information and differential program - to improve career perception and career attitude maturity.

  • Purpose: This study examines the relationships between academic self-efficacy, major satisfaction, and career attitude maturity among nursing students. The study further explored the mediating effect of major satisfaction on the relationship between academic self-efficacy and career attitude maturity. Methods: Data were collected via questionnaires from 239 nursing students in D city and P city from March 1 to March 30, 2012. Pearson's correlation and multiple regression analyses were used to assess the relationships between the variables. Results: 1. The mean scores for academic self-efficacy, career attitude maturity, and major satisfaction were 3.81, 3.67, and 3.89, respectively. 2. Academic self-efficacy was positively correlated with major satisfaction and career attitude maturity. 3. Major satisfaction had a mediating effect on the relationship between academic self-efficacy and career attitude maturity. Conclusion: Academic self-efficacy is expected to serve as a foundation for the promotion of career attitude maturity.

  • The purpose of this study is as follows: First, this study investigates the effect of the supervisor's coaching leadership on the employee's protean career attitude. Second, we examine the effect of a protean career attitude on career satisfaction. Finally, we examine the mediating effect of protean career attitude on the relationship between supervisor's coaching leadership and career satisfaction. As a result of analyzing the data of 329 employees from pharmaceutical companies, the positive influence of coaching leadership on the protean career attitude was significant. The positive effect of the protean career attitude on career satisfaction was significant. The mediating effect of the protean career attitude on the relationship between coaching leadership and career satisfaction was significant. The findings of this study provide an understanding regarding the concept of career development, which has recently changed from an organization-centered to an individual-centered perspective. Also, this study has theoretical and practical implications for the field of human resource development in that it suggests the type of leadership as an antecedent of protean career attitudes.

The Effects of Major Satisfaction, Career Decision Efficacy and Career Attitude Maturity of Engineering College Students to the Career Decision Level. (공학전공 대학생의 전공만족도, 진로결정 효능감 및 진로태도성숙이 진로결정수준에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of major satisfaction, career decision efficacy and career attitude maturity of engineering college students to the career decision level. A total of 432 engineering students(male=339, female=96) completed major satisfaction, career decision efficacy, career attitude maturity and career decision level tests. The analysis showed the following findings. First, there are significant correlations among major satisfaction, career decision efficacy, career attitude maturity, and the career decision level. Second, the major satisfaction explained 2% of engineering college students' the career decision level. The career decision efficacy explained 21% of engineering college students' the career decision level. And the career attitude maturity explained 53% of engineering college students' the career decision level. The results of the study suggested that when career guidance and counseling program for the engineering college students, it is important to consider the factors to improve career self-efficacy and career attitude maturity.

The Influence of Adolescent's Career Attitude, Occupation Value, and Social Support on Career Preparation Behavior (청소년의 진로준비행동에 관한 연구 : 진로태도, 직업가치관, 사회적지지)

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of demographic, occupation value, career attitude, and social support on high school students' career preparation behavior. The data was collected from the Korean Survey on of the Career and occupation of Youth in 2009(N=3,499). Descriptive statistics, One-way ANOVA, T-test, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were performed on SPSS 17.0. The results of this study are as follows: first, career preparation behavior according to gender was much higher for female students than male students. There were statistically significant differences in career preparation behavior according to school years. The first year students' perception in of career preparation behavior was higher than the second, and third year students. The first year students' perception in of career preparation behavior was higher than second, and third year students. Second, career preparation behavior had a significant correlations with work value, career attitude, family support, and school support. Third, this study demonstrated that career decisiveness and family support was a strong factor in career preparation behavior. In addition, among all factors, the career decisiveness of career attitude was proved to be the most influential factor on career preparation behavior. The study discusses practical implications for career education programs.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate relationships between major satisfaction and career decision efficacy and career attitude maturity of engineering college students by performing canonical correlation analysis. A total of 492 engineering students(male=380, female=112) completed 3 tests. The results of canonical correlation analysis showed a) major satisfaction were significantly associated with career decision efficacy, b) major satisfaction were significantly associated with career attitude maturity, and c) career decision efficacy were significantly associated with career attitude maturity.

An Empirical Study on Career Maturity, Achievement Goal, Learning Attitude and Academic Achievement of Middle School Students : Focused on Subjects-Related Career Education (중학생의 진로성숙도와 성취 목표, 학습 태도 및 학업성취도 실증적 고찰 : 교과연계 진로교육 경험을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to verify career maturity, achievement goal, learning attitude and academic achievement relation with subjects-related career education of middle school students. To achieve these aims, this study used SELS(Seoul education longitudinal study) of Seoul Education Research & Information Institute. Also, analysis as well as descriptive statistics calculation on average, deviation, skewness and kurtosis of variable factor and calculated characteristic item and degree of reliability(Cronbach ${\alpha}$). For goodness of fit test, this study used TLI(Tucker-Lewis index) and RMSEA(Root mean square error of approximation). To achieve the ultimate objects, this study used LMA(latent mean analysis) for analysis of difference career maturity, achievement goal, learning attitude and academic achievement relation with subjects-related career education in middle school students. The results are as follows. First, experience relation with subjects-related career education were influenced on career maturity with career cognition. Second, experience relation with subjects-related career education were influenced on achievement goal, learning attitude, and larger than career maturity and academic achievement. Third, experience relation with subjects-related career education were influenced on middle school students more than inexperienced relation with subjects-related career education.

The Career Attitude and Career Choice of Cosmetology University Students (미용학과 학생들의 진로태도와 진로선택성향)

  • The objective of this study is to explore the relationship between MBTI personality type and career attitude and career choice of cosmetology university students. Data were collected by self-administered questionnaires. Chi-square test and logistic regression analysis was conducted. The major findings of this study are as follows: In regard to career-related attitude, ISTJ type out of 16 MBTI is higher than other type on the positive attitude. In regard to the relationship of MBTI and career choice, ISTP, ISFP and ENFJ type is more prefer skin care than the other type. And INTP type is more prefer hair design and makeup. And also the psychological functional type and career choice, ST showed the preference on skin care, and SF preferred makeup field. Finally NT and NF psychological functional type showed the preference on hair design.

Effects of Parental Support, Bicultural Acceptance, and Self-Esteem on Career Attitude Maturity of Multicultural Adolescents

  • At a time when children of multicultural families have begun to enter adolescence in Korea, this study examined the effects of parental support and bicultural acceptance on the career attitude maturity of multicultural adolescents. This study tried to derive the implications related to the career path of multicultural adolescents by verifying the effects of self-esteem on the relationship between parental support, bicultural acceptance, and career attitude maturity. Using the 8th Multicultural Adolescent Panel Survey data (MAPS), the relative influence of antecedent variables on career attitude maturity was confirmed by hierarchical regression analysis of the data from 1,197 respondents. Model 1 included gender and parental support, Model 2 added bicultural acceptance to Model 1, and Model 3 added self-esteem to Model 2. As a result of the study, in Model 1, women had higher career attitude maturity than men, and the more supportive their parents were, the more positive the level of career attitude maturity. The adjusted R2 of Model 1 was .058, which did not have much influence. In Model 2, gender, parental support, and bicultural acceptance had statistically significant effects on career attitude maturity, and the amount of change in F was also significant. The adjusted R2 of Model 2 was .132. In Model 3, parental support was not statistically significant, and gender, bicultural acceptance, and self-esteem had statistically significant effects on career attitude maturity. The amount of change in F was statistically significant and the adjusted R2 was .185. That is, it was confirmed that the more the women, the more the bicultural acceptance, and the higher the self-esteem, the more prepared and determined the career path. Based on the research results, the implications related to career preparation of multicultural adolescents were presented.
