  • The experimental work is performed to obtain content levels and characteristics of flue gas in infrared mobile heaters for butane gas with varying the chamber size and its room temperature. The results showed that the oxygen depletion sensor device is operated at 18.3% of oxygen content. And the relation of oxygen content and carbon dioxide content in an enclosed space show linear aspect, but the content rate of carbon monoxide occurs at random without the level of oxygen content and carbon dioxide content.

  • Wind and temperature were measured with a three-dimensional ultrasonic anemometer and the carbon dioxide concentration was measured using an infrared sensor in the tidal flat of Suncheon Bay. In general, as the temperature increases, the concentration of carbon dioxide increases, and as the temperature decreases, the carbon dioxide also decreases in the atmosphere. However, since photosynthesis declined immediately after the sunset, the concentration of carbon dioxide increased as the temperature decreased. In addition, near the high tide when the tidal flat is covered with seawater, the atmospheric turbulence was strong despite an increase in temperature, resulting in a decrease in carbon dioxide concentration. It is necessary to quantitatively evaluated the effects of photosynthesis, respiration and atmospheric turbulence on the change of carbon dioxide concentration over tidal flat ecosystems.

  • Highly uniform and well-dispersed Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework-7 (ZIF-7) particles were prepared by the precipitation of $Zn^{2+}$ using benzimidazole, which were converted into ZnO nanoparticles by heat treatment at $500^{\circ}C$ for 24 h. The ZIF-7 derived ZnO nanoparticles showed abundant mesopores, high surface area, and good dispersion. The gas sensing characteristics toward 5 ppm acetone, ethanol, trimethylamine, ammonia, p-xylene, toluene, benzene, and carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide were investigated at $350-450^{\circ}C$. ZIF-7 derived ZnO nanoparticles exhibited high response to 5 ppm acetone ($R_a/R_g=57.6$; $R_a$: resistance under exposure to the air, Rg: resistance under exposure to the gas) at $450^{\circ}C$ and negligible cross-responses to other interference gases (trimethylamine, ammonia, p-xylene, toluene, benzene, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide) and relatively low responses to ethanol. ZIF derived synthesis of metal oxide nanoparticles can be used to design high performance acetone sensors.

  • To found out the degradation characteristic of transformer insulation, insulation material was depisited into transformer oil and heated. Due to the thermal stress which added to insulation, the density of carbon dioxide which included in transformer oil was mesured by using the gas density detection equipment of gas sensor and air circulation method. As a result, it didn't match with the transformer supervision standard. But it was found that as thermal stress increased, the density of carbon dioxide propertionally increased.

  • NDIR $CO_2$ gas sensor was built with ASIC implemented thermopile sensor which included temperature sensor and unique elliptical waveguide structures in this paper. The temperature dependency of dual infrared sensor module ($CO_2$ and reference IR sensors) has been characterized and its output voltage characteristics according to the temperature and gas concentration were proposed for the first time. NDIR $CO_2$ gas and reference IR sensors showed linear output voltages according to the variation of ambient temperatures from 243 K to 333 K and their slopes were 14.2 mV/K and 8.8 mV/K, respectively. The output voltages of temperature sensor also presented a linear dependency according to the ambient temperature and could be described with V(T)=-3.191+0.0148T(V). The output voltage ratio between $CO_2$ and reference IR sensors revealed irrelevant to the changes of ambient temperatures and gave a constant value around 1.6255 with standard deviation 0.008 at 0 ppm. The output voltage of $CO_2$ gas sensor at zero ppm $CO_2$ gas consisted of two components; one is caused by the HPB (half pass-band) of IR filter and the other is attributed to the part of $CO_2$ absorption wavelength. The characteristics of output voltages of $CO_2$ gas sensor could be accurately modeled with three parameters which are dependent upon the ambient temperatures and represented small average error less than 1.5% with 5% standard deviation.

  • In this study, the relationship between the transmitted light intensity and full-width-at-half-maximum (FWHM) of a Fabry-Perot filter was investigated. The measured refractive indices and absorption coefficients of the fabricated thin films were applied to the Fabry-Perot filter via simulations using optical software. Although considerable research has been conducted on Fabry-Perot filters, this study focused on the usefulness of 4.26-㎛ infrared filtering in carbon dioxide detection. Optical analysis was performed considering the effects of the thickness, refractive indices, and number of thin films in a distributed Bragg reflector. Ultimately, a clear trade-off relationship was observed wherein the transmitted light intensity decreased as the number of multilayers increased; however, the FWHM was observed to be narrower.

  • Carbon nanotube (CNT) mats grown by thermal chemical vapor deposition on a micromachined substrate with a chrome heater and a diaphragm were investigated as sensing materials of resistive gas sensors for nitrogen dioxide ($NO_{2}$) gas. The aligned CNT mats fabricated into mesh and serpentine shapes by the patterned cobalt catalyst layer. CNT mats showed a p-type electrical resistivity with decreasing electrical resistance upon exposure to $NO_{2}$. All sensors exhibited a reversible response at a thermal treatment temperature of $130^{\circ}C$ for about 5 minutes. The resistance change to $NO_{2}$ of the mesh-shaped CNT mats was larger than that of the serpentine-shaped CNT mats.

  • This paper describes the fabrication and characterization of graphene based carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) gas sensors. Graphene was synthesized by thermal decomposition of SiC. The resistivity $CO_2$ gas sensors were fabricated by pure graphene and graphene decorated Au nanoparticles (NPs). The Au NPs with size of 10 nm were decorated on graphene. Au electrode deposited on the graphene showed Ohmic contact and the sensors resistance changed following to various $CO_2$ concentrations. Resulting in resistance sensor using pure graphene can detect minimum of 100 ppm $CO_2$ concentration at $50^{\circ}C$, whereas Au/graphene can detect minimum 2 ppm $CO_2$ concentration at same at $50^{\circ}C$. Moreover, Au NPs catalyst improved the sensitivity of the graphene based $CO_2$ sensors. The responses of pure graphene and Au/graphene are 0.04% and 0.24%, respectively, at $50^{\circ}C$ with 500 ppm $CO_2$ concentration. The optimum working temperature of $CO_2$ sensors is at $75^{\circ}C$.
