Mechanical and Electrical Properties of Nonwoven Coated with CNFs/PVDF-HFP Composite (탄소나노섬유/PVDF-HFP 복합재로 코팅된 부직포의 역학적 및 전기적 특성 변화)

  • In this study, the process of preparation nonwoven with coated carbon nano fibers (CNFs) /poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) composite solution is described. The various contents of CNFs/PVDF-HFP composite coated nonwoven were prepared and characterized by morphological, mechanical, and electrical methods. Nonwovens are coated with CNFs/PVDF-HFP composite solution and decreased the pick up ratio with increasing CNFs contents in range from 0% to 16%. In the results of SEM images, it was clear that the CNFs were evenly distributed in coated nonwoven by SEM images, the existence of CNFs in coated nonwoven was confirmed regularly. The mechanical properties of various contents of CNFs/PVDF-HFP coated nonwoven were examined. The tensile linearity and compression linearity increased with increasing CNFs contents. The electrical properties of the CNFs/PVDF-HFP coated nonwoven increased with increasing CNFs contents.

Effect of Cu on the mechanical Properties and damping capacity of austempered ductile cast iron (오스템퍼링 처리한 구상흑연주철의 기계적 성질 및 감쇠능에 미치는 Cu의 영향)

  • This study was investigated to know the effect of Cu addition on austempered ductile cast iron at various temperatures and times. Test results showed that the volume fraction of retained austenite and the carbon contents of retained austenite showed the greatest value at $400^{\circ}C$. Also, in case of specimens having more Cu contents, the volume fraction of retained austenite and the carbon contents of retained austenite showed the lower value. After austempering treatment, tensile strength and Impact value increased, but elongation decreased. With increasing austempering treatment temperature, tensile strength, elongation, and impact value decreased. In case of specimen having more Cu contents, tensile strength showed the higher value, but elongation showed the lower value. Damping capacity was decreased by austempering treatment and was not affected on austempering temperature and time. In case of specimen having more Cu contents, damping capacity showed the higher value.

  • Hybrid composites usually are defined as composites having different types of reinforcements such as fibers and particles. The major advantage of hybrid composites is able to control the material properties such as optical, electrical, and mechanical properties. For this reason, hybrid composites are widely used in automotive, marine, household, and electrical industries. The objective of this work was to investigate processing characteristics in the compression molding of hybrid thermoplastic composites. The mechanical properties of composites manufactured in various forming conditions were monitored. The composites contained randomly oriented long carbon fiber and carbon black in polypropylene(PP) matrix were used. The carbon fiber contents of composites were 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%, and carbon black contents were 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25% by weight. Compression molding was conducted at various mold temperatures. Crstallinity was also measured by using X-RD. The tensile modulus of the composites increased with increasing the mold temperature. However, the impact strength of the composites decreased as the mold temperature increased.

  • Reduction reactivity and carbon deposition characteristics of three oxygen carrier particles(OCN01, OCN02, OCN03) have been investigated by using hydrogen, methane, syngas, and natural gas as fuels. For all particles, the maximum conversion, the oxygen transfer capacity, and the degree of carbon deposition increased as the reactive carbon contents increased. The reduction rate and the oxygen transfer rate increased as the moles of required oxygen per input gas increased. The change of maximum conversion, reduction rate, oxygen transfer capacity, oxygen transfer rate and degree of carbon deposition for different fuels can be explained consistently by using parameters such as the reactive carbon contents and the moles of require oxygen per input gas.

Comparison of Tyurin Method and Dry Combustion Method for Carbon Analysis in Soils of Low Iorganic Carbon content (무기탄소 함량이 낮은 토양의 탄소함량 분석을 위한 Tyurin법과 건식연소법의 비교)

  • To compare soil carbon contents by Tyurin method and dry combustion method, we carried out analysis for 212 samples of agricultural land in Korea. The average values of soil carbon contents analyzed by Tyurin method and dry combustion method were $17.47{\pm}10.80$ and $19.91{\pm}10.63g\;kg^{-1}$, respectively. Both methods were evaluated as acceptable methods for soil carbon contents as the results showed. The results showed that soil texture had little effect on analysis method of carbon contents. Highly significant linear regression equation, Y = 0.846X ($R^2=0.991$), was obtained between carbon contents analyzed by Tyurin method (Y) and dry combustion method (X). As a result of comparison with data of carbon contents of the two methods, about 69% of results at dry combustion method have exceeded to results at Tyurin method. Especially, differences between results at two methods became higher as carbon contents were increasing. Tyurin method has been advantages such as shorter analysis time for one sample, more recognition for carbon analysis, and no need for expensive analyzer, while dry combustion method has simpler procedure, no heavy metal wastes, and more samples for analysis at one time.

  • A sediment core drilled from Lake langer on King George Island was analyzed for a variety of textural md geochemical properties along with $^{14}C$ age dates. These data were combined with published records of other cores to provide a detailed history of Holocene variation of total organic carbon (TOC) contents with respect to terrestrial paleoclimate change. The lithologic contrast of the lower diamicton and upper fine-grained sediments shows the glacier activity and subsequent lake formation. Low TOC contents fluctuated during the diamicton deposition whereas the increase of TOC began with the lake formation during the postglacial period that started about 5,000 yr B.p More notable are the distinct TOC peaks that may imply enhanced primary productivity during the warm period. The uniform and low TOC contents may reflect the limited productivity during the evolution of the lake. However, the recent TOC readvance clearly indicates gradual warming on King George Island. However, the paleoclimatic signature in the terrestrial lake environment during the Holocene seems to be subtle and less distinct, compared to the marine environment.

($H_2S$ Adsorption Characteristics of $KIO_3$ Impregnated Activated Carbon (($KIO_3$ 첨착활성탄의 황화수소 흡착 성능평가)

  • The impregnated activated carbons were prepared by the incipient wetness method with the contents of $KIO_3$ varied from 1.0${\sim}$10 wt% as the impregnation material. The specific surface area and micropore volume of the rice hulls activated carbon were $2,600{\sim}2,800$ $m^2$/g and 1.1${\sim}$1.4 cc/g, respectively. With increasing the contents of impregnation materials, the surface area and micropore volume decreased by 3${\sim}$21%. However, The amounts of hydrogen sulfide adsorbed increased by 2.1${\sim}$2.8 times depending on the impregnation content. The optimum contents of $KIO_3$ were 2.4 wt%. Although the breakthrough time and adsorption capacity of hydrogen sulfide decreased with increasing temperature in the case of the unimpregnated activated carbons, they increased by 1.2${\sim}$ 3.2 times for the case of the impregnated activated carbons. The optimum aspect ratio(L/D) was 1.0 and the adsorption amount of hydrogen sulfide enhanced with increasing the gas flow rate. The regeneration temperature was determined as 400$^{\circ}C$ from the TGA experiment. The adsorption capacity of hydrogen sulfide with the impregnated activated carbon decreased gradually as the regeneration continued. The hydrogen sulfide adsorption amount of the regenerated activated carbon up to 4 times was still higher than that of the unimpregnated activated carbon.

  • Three kinds of reation-bonded SiC that reaction-bonded SiC(RBSC), RBSC reinforced by carbon fiber and RBSC reinforced by activated carbon fiber were prepared for investigating the change of erosion properties. The characteristics of microstructures and the phases have been investigated by using scanning electron microscope and XRD analysis. The hardness test, toughness test and erosion test were camed out. In the cases with no carbon fiber, those kind of specimens had the highest result of hardness test and the lowest result of toughness test. With the increase of carbon fiber content, The hardness and the weight loss were decreased but the toughness was increased in the cases with carbon fiber In the cases with activated carbon fiber those specimens had the highest result of toughness test and the lowest result of hardness test with 30% contents of activated carbon fiber.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the physical and mechanical properties of concrete using waste activated carbon. Materials used were ordinary portlant cement, crushed coarse aggregate, natural fine aggregate, waste activated carbon, and superplasticizer. The substitution ratios of waste activated carbon were 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10%. The unit weight was decreased and water absorption ratio was increased with increasing the waste activated carbon content, respectively. When the substitution ratio of waste activated carbon was 3%, compressive strength, flexural strength and dynamic modulus of elastisity were more higher than that of the ordinary portland cement (OPC), and it was decreased with increasing the waste activated carbon content, respectively. The most effective contents of waste activated carbon was 2% in performance and 4% in practical use Accordingly, waste activated carbon can be used for concrete material.
