The agglomeration characteristics of coal and silica sand were investigated under various conditions using mixed samples consisting of coal, silica sand, and potassium hydroxide, which is an agglomeration accelerator. The samples were prepared by either physically mixing or using aqueous solutions. The experiments using the physically mixed powder samples were performed with a two hour reaction time. The results showed that the number of aggregates generated increased as the reaction temperature and the total potassium content increased. The experiments using aqueous solutions were performed at 880 ℃, which is the operating temperature of a fluidized bed boiler, and at 980 ℃, which assumes a local hot spot. The amount of agglomeration generated as the reaction time increased and the total potassium content increased was identified. In the experiment performed at 880 ℃, the amount of aggregate generated clearly increased with the reaction time, and in the experiment performed at 980 ℃, assuming a local hot spot, a large amount of aggregate was generated in a relatively short time. The aggregates became harder as the potassium content increased. When the total potassium content was less than 1.37 wt.%, the aggregates were weak at both temperatures and collapsed even with a slight impact. Additionally, the surface characteristics of the silica sand and ash aggregates were observed by SEM-EDS analysis. The analysis revealed a large amount of potassium at the bonding sites. This result indicates that there is a high possibility of aggregation in the form of a eutectic compound when the alkali component is increased.

Country-specific emission factors should be developed and used instead of IPCC defaults to improve national GHG inventories to Tier 2 and above. Since the country-specific emission factors depend on the type of energy source, energy process, and time trend, identifying the value of each energy source is an important part of building an accurate inventory. In this study, calorific value and carbon emission factor for petroleum energy sources on the basis of calorific value conversion standard for energy source, which are notified in Korea, are collected by 2013 and 2016, and calorific value, carbon content and carbon emission factor And a comparative analysis was conducted. In addition, net calorific values and carbon emission factors calculated for each petroleum based energy source are compared with those shown in 2006 IPCC Guideline.

Countries worldwide are striving to find new sources of sustainable energy without carbon emission due to the increasing impact of global warming. With the advancement of the fourth industrial revolution on a global scale, there has been a substantial rise in energy demand. Simultaneously, there is a growing emphasis on utilizing energy sources with minimal or zero carbon content to ensure a stable power supply while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In this comprehensive overview, a comparative analysis of carbon reduction policies of government was conducted. Based on international carbon neutrality scenarios and the presence of remaining thermal power generation, it can be categorized into two types: "Rapid" and "Safety". For the domestic scenario, the projected power demand and current greenhouse gas emissions in alignment with "The 10th Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand" was examined. Considering all these factors, an overview of the current status of carbon neutrality technologies by focusing on the energy sector, encompassing transitions, hydrogen, transportation and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) was offered followed by summarization of key technological trends and government-driven policies. Furthermore, the central aspects of the domestic carbon reduction strategy were proposed by taking account of current mega trends in the energy sector which are highlighted in international scenario analyses.
Paulownia tomentosa is one of fast-growing wood species in Korea. In order to evaluate the solid bioenergy properties of Paulownia tree, this study examined the heating value, moisture content (MC), pH and proximate analysis of stem, branch, root, bark and leaf. The heating values of wood parts were slightly higher than those of bark and leaf, and that of branch was the highest among all the samples. The higher moisture content of bark and leaf referred to their lower heating value. Also, the pH of stem, branch and root was similar and lower than those of bark and leaf. The ash content of bark and leaf was much higher than that of wood parts, which is the one of the reasons for effect on the lower heating value and higher pH. While, the volatile matter content (VMC) of bark and leaf was lower than those of wood parts. The bark showed the highest fixed carbon content (FCC), while the FCC of stem was the lowest among all the samples. The obtained results are encouraging that the Paulownia tree could be totally utilized as alternative fuels for bioenergy production.
In this study, a torrefaction of Quercus serrata to manufacture a molded charcoal was performed, investigated material properties, fuel characteristics, and performed a quantitative analysis of hazardous gases which occur during a combustion process. In addition, a molded charcoal in market was selected as a control group, and a comparative analysis was performed. As a result, the higher heating value (HHV) of the torrefied specimen was about 14% higher than that of molded charcoal, and its ash content was about 51 times lower. Moreover, after performing a quantitative assessment of hazardous gases (carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, and sulfur dioxide) which were produced when each specimen was combusted for 900 seconds in an enclosed chamber, it was confirmed that the maximum value of generated amount of carbon monoxide on the torrefied specimen was about 50 times lower than that of the existing molded charcoal. Therefore, it was shown that the torrefied specimen produced in this study had a higher heating value than the molded charcoal in the market, and a very low amount of carbon monoxide generated during the combustion process.

The U metal chips generated in developing nuclear fuel and a gamma radioisotope shield have been stored under immersion of water in KAERI. When the water of the storing vessels vaporizes or drains due to unexpected leaking, the U metal chips are able to open to air. A new oxidation treatment process was raised for a long time safe storage with concepts of drying under vacuum, evaporating the containing water and organic material with elevating temperature, and oxidizing the uranium metal chips at an appropriate high temperature under conditions of controlling the feeding rate of oxygen gas. In order to optimize the oxidation process the uranium metal chips were completely dried at higher temperature than $300^{\circ}C$ and tested for oxidation at various temperatures, which are $300^{\circ}C$, $400^{\circ}C$, and $500^{\circ}C$. When the oxidation temperature was $400^{\circ}C$, the oxidized sample for 7 hours showed a temperature rise of $60^{\circ}C$ in the self-ignition test. But the oxidized sample for 14 hours revealed a slight temperature rise of $7^{\circ}C$ representing a stable behavior in the self-ignition test. When the temperature was $500^{\circ}C$, the shorter oxidation for 7 hours appeared to be enough because the self-ignition test represented no temperature rise. By using several chemical analyses such as carbon content determination, X-ray deflection (XRD), Infrared spectra (IR) and Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) on the oxidation treated samples, the results of self-ignition test of new oxidation treatment process for U metal chip were interpreted and supported.
The main purpose of this study is to offer informations about the current conditions and basic data of sediments for the urban streams in the Busan city. Total 14 urban streams were selected and sediment samples were collected. Then, It was investigated the sediment qualities though the measurement of pH, proximate analysis, elemental analysis, COD, organic carbon content, volatile solid content and heavy metal concentration. Results show that COD, organic carbon content, volatile solid content and heavy metal concentration of sediment are determined in the range of $1.20{\sim}75.07mg\;L^{-1}$, 0.19~11.54%, 0.23~34.21% and $0.4{\sim}732.6mg\;kg^{-1}$, respectively. Finally, Analysis data of sediments were compared with USEPA sediment quality standards and ontario sediment quality guidelines. As a result, when compared with USEPA sediment quality standards, total 9 samples were evaluated as heavily polluted and total 3 samples were evaluated as moderately polluted. But, when compared with ontario sediment quality guidelines, total 3 samples were evaluated as Severe effect level and total 10 samples were evaluated as lowest effect level.
Recently, applications of biomass-based plastics have increased according to the eco-friendly policy of the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions in domestic and foreign government. In this study, a paper plastic composite was produced by compounding polypropylene and micronized paper powder that was prepared using dry pulverization technology. Subsequently, the specimen of paper plastic was verified with mechanical properties, formability and product safety test to confirm the suitable packaging materials for food packaging. Paper plastics showed slightly lower mechanical properties than currently commercialized PP composites. However, paper plastics are valuable materials as environmentally friendly carbon-reducing material because of high biocarbon content, light weight features and applicability of existing manufacturing machines or system.

Low-hydrogenated DLC films were coated on the Mo-tip FEAs by 'layer-by-layer' process based on the plasma-enhanced CVD method. The hydrogen content in the DLC film deposited by the 'layer-by-layer' process was appeared to be remarkably lowered through SIMS analysis. Also, the low-hydrogenated DLC-coated Mo-tip FEA showed good potentiality for FED applications in terms of turn-on voltage, emission current, emission stability and light emitting uniformity.
The press formability analysis of welding parts was studied in the current work by the tailor welded blank. The press formability was tested by means of the flash weldability and the formability for two kinds of materials (SPCC & S35C). The results indicate that SPCC & S35C steel sheets showed good weldability and formability after an optimum welding conditions. The independent operation variables were characterized by strength of welding parts, deformation after the welding, press formability of welding parts and productibility of welding. The weldability and the quality of welding parts of the flashed SPCC steel sheet was superior to those of the S35C steel sheet, since a higher carbon content in steel sheet led to a higher hardness. The experimental results were discussed by the evaluation of the results obtained from tensile test, hardness test, micro-structure and V bending test.
