In this study, Impact factors are represented and barrier height of compact car road of safety barrier is suggested through the investigation of applying problems of existed standard of general car road. For this, traffic accidents analysis is performed and based on the analysis, impact vehicle weight, impact Angle, crash velocity, and barrier height are investigated. For the decision of impact angle, analysis is carried out by comparison of RISER and 2-lines expressway accidents data. Through this, higher-impact angle is suggested. Vehicle weight data of sub-compact car, small vehicle, medium and large vehicle, SUV, small truck is surveyed and analyzed. Based on the accident accumulation rate, regression analysis of vehicle weight impact and impact velocity is performed. Also, based on the cumulative rate of vehicle weight on expressways near Seoul, barrier height of compact car road is calculated. It is noted that the results of this study will be contributed to the decision of barrier type.
In this study, an analysis was conducted on internal and external factors related to fires in electric vehicles in order to improve the safety of electric vehicles against fire accidents. To conduct the analysis, field survey data conducted on actual electric vehicle fire accidents were used, and accident-related statistical data was used. Among them, as a result of analyzing the internal factors related to fire accidents in electric vehicles, it was confirmed that high-voltage batteries are an important factor in fire accidents caused by internal factors of electric vehicles. An analysis of external factors for fire accidents of electric vehicles was also conducted in this study. The largest number of electric vehicle accidents that occurred on public roads were mainly caused by physical external forces such as collisions. Therefore, strengthening the safety of this road infrastructure could be an additional solution to improve the fire safety of electric vehicles. As a result, based on car accident cases, two crash scenarios based on road infrastructure were derived, each of which simulates a high-speed frontal collision situation and a lower-end collision situation. Additionally, detailed test methods for these scenarios were developed.

This study is a study on the development of AEBS test scenarios for traffic accidents in Korea, and was compared and analyzed using the Traffic Accident Analysis Program. To ensure the safety of passengers and pedestrians in traffic accidents, the number of cars equipped with ADAS is increasing rapidly at all car manufacturers in each country. For traffic accidents used in this study, the domestic traffic accident database (ACCC) produced by SAMSONG was used. Domestic traffic accidents differ from overseas traffic accidents in terms of road type, signal system, driver's seat location and number of vehicles. ACCC databases, which supplemented and reinforced these differences, built a database based on the PC-CRASH program. In the study, we analyze the types of accidents to develop comparative scenarios for each type of road and collision type of traffic accidents. When the road types of traffic accidents in Korea were divided into five types and the collision types were divided into six, it was confirmed that the most types of FRONT-SIDE crashes appeared at the intersection. It is expected that the frequency of possible traffic accidents and collision types can be predicted according to the road type in the accident database, we that it can be used as an AEBS test scenario development suitable for the domestic road environment.
The seating postures of passengers in the automated driving vehicle are possible in atypical forms such as rear-facing and lying down. It is necessary to improve devices such as airbags and seat belts to protect occupants from injury in accidents of the automated driving vehicle, and collision safety evaluation tests must be newly developed. The purpose of this study is to define representative types of head-on collision accidents to develop collision standards for autonomous vehicles that take into account changes in driving behavior and occupants' postures. 150 frontal collision cases remained by filtering (accident videos, images, AIS 2+, passenger car, etc…) and random sampling from approximately 320,000 accidents claimed by a major insurance company over the past 5 years. The most frequent accident type is a head-on collision between a vehicle going straight and a vehicle turning left from the opposite side, accounting for 54.7% of all accidents, and most of these accidents occur in permissive left turns. The next most common frontal collision is the center-lane violation by drowsy driving and careless driving, accounting for 21.3% of the total. For the two types above, data such as vehicle speed, contact point/area, and PDOF at the moment of impact are obtained through accident reconstruction using PC-Crash. As a result, two types of autonomous vehicle crash safety test scenarios are proposed: (1) a frontal oblique collision test based on the accident types between a straight vehicle and a left-turning vehicle, and (2) a small overlap collision test based on the head-on accidents of center-lane violation.
This paper reports an analysis of cyclist accident cases with respect to passenger vehicles on Korean roads. A typology based on Initiative for the Global Harmonization of Accident Data (iGLAD) code book is applied to a traffic accident analysis system(TAAS), which has the real-world crash data on Korea roads, to understand the accident scenarios in more detail and efficiently. Similarly this typology has been used for Germany In-Depth Accidents Study (GIDAS) as well. The accident data analysis with consideration of the typology of Korean road conditions may prioritize traffic safety issues regarding cyclists and is aimed to develop an Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system for cyclist. In summary, this paper characterizes and analyzes the scenarios of cyclist crashes with passenger car. The most common accident scenarios on Korean roads are Car-to-Bicyclist Nearside Adult (CBNA) and Car-to-Bicyclist Longitudinal Adult (CBLA), which are more than 86% of total accidents cases. Therefore, it is inferred that AEB cyclist system should include these accident types in the operational design domain to reduce more fatality in Korea.

The median barrier is one of the roadside hardware to prevent severe human and property damage from highway traffic accidents. The foreign standard of concrete median barrier was introduced and implemented without modification fitting to domestic vehicle and highway condition. In a car accident, median barrier doesn't protect vehicle effectively, especially for heavy vehicle such as bus and heavy truck. The purpose of this study is to develop the optimal performance design of concrete median barrier using the design of experiment with crash simulation analysis which is done by Pam-Crash that is one of the commercial crash simulation software. As a result of this study, an optimal design of concrete median barrier is obtained considering von Mises stress, volume and COG acceleration of truck.

The number of big traffic accident cases of pedestrian death appeared to be minor, however compared to death rate in car to car accidents is very high and quite a few of the pedestrian death rates among all traffic accidents are counted to be almost 40%. Previous pedestrian safety studies were mostly aimed at reducing the degree of pedestrian injuries from a vehicle to pedestrian collision, and less at preventing a collision itself. This research was conducted with a method of using road facilities to prevent vehicles from rushing into the sidewalk. This research used one of the collision analyzing programs, called PC-Crash to simulate the vehicle rushing into the sidewalk. Based on the program, it could derive an optimal safe zone location where the pedestrian can wait for the pedestrian light safely. Also, changing road facilities such as pedestrian light pillars or signal controllers can widen 440% compared to the present safe zone. Accordingly, researchers have to consider a method to analyze and apply pedestrian safe zones along with road facilities location when designing a road.

U-Channel Bridge is effective bridge type, because its edge beam performs role of barrier and enables to reduce additional dead loads. Although it is effective to reduce additional dead loads, there is possibility of bridge collapse under impact load due to car crash. Also, edge beam must have ability to induce safe driving and prevent falling accidents. Therefore, it requires behavior analysis and property investigation through the vehicle impact crashing edge beam. This study presents method of structural analysis of U-channel bridge and investigates design specifications for the effect of the edge beam under the vehicle impact. Also, it carries out stability investigation of behavior of edge beam and slab, based on Korean Highway Bridge Design Specifications and AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specification.
Recently, IITS (intelligent integrated transportation system) has been important topic in Smart City related industry. As a main objective of IITS, prevention of traffic jam (due to car accidents) has been attempted with help of advanced sensor and communication technologies. Studies show that car accident has certain correlation with some factors including characteristics of location, weather, driver's behavior, and time of day. We concentrate our study on observing auto correlativity of car accidents in terms of time of day. In this paper, we performed the ARIMA tests including ADF (augmented Dickey-Fuller) to check the three factors determining auto-regressive, stationarity, and lag order. Summary on forecasting of hourly car crash counts is presented, we show that the traffic accident data obtained in Korea can be applied to ARIMA model and present a result that traffic accidents in Korea have property of being recurrent daily basis.
